Strainer. There are most often two difficulties with this element:

In order to find out the cause of the malfunction unscrew the fuel filter cover to remove the strainer. If it’s just a dirty accumulation, it can be washed in gasoline or purged.

If the strainer is visibly damaged, it is imperative that a new one be fitted. There may also be damage to the fuel supply spigot (when repairing, it is a practice to check this element).

The carburetor starter mechanism almost always fails because of clogs. Use acetone or the same gasoline for flushing.

Blowing out clogged carburetor parts with compressed air is an acceptable and comfortable repair practice.

In order to find out the cause of the breakage unscrew the fuel filter cover to remove the strainer. If there is just a build-up of dirt, flushing with gasoline or purging can help.

If there are visible damages on the filter, it is necessary to supply a new one. There may also be damage to the fuel supply pipe (when repairing this element, it is good practice to check it).

The carburetor starter is malfunctioning most of the time due to clogs. Use acetone or the same gasoline for flushing.

The basis of the lawnmower’s carburettor is the aluminum housing. The diffuser (orifice with internal circuits) is located in it. This is the port through which the air is forced. Oxygen (air) flow speed depends on diffuser cross-section (passage opening).

The diffuser has fuel channels. Fuel is drawn from them with a stream of air.

Before making any adjustments, the filters must be thoroughly cleaned in accordance with the maintenance instructions.

The right one (L). adjustment of fuel mixture for low revolutions.

Need to find the maximum rpm at idle speed. To do this, slowly turn the screw (L) to the right and left.

To adjust, turn the screw a quarter of a turn anticlockwise.

Lower (T). responsible for adjustment of the engine at idle speed.

It is the idle speed that is characteristic of a proper adjustment:

  • steady operation of a cold engine;
  • Not over revving the hot engine;
  • for the trimmer head a large RPM margin;
  • stable operation of the engine when changing the position (sudden raising or lowering of the blade).

Left (N). adjustment of mixture at high rpm. (the screw is adjusted last).

Adjusting the lawn mower carburetor with the last screw is done as follows:

  • Open the throttle to full, while giving full throttle. Turn the screw clockwise until rpm drops (in this case adjust it by ear).
  • Turn the screw as slowly as possible counterclockwise until the engine is uneven.
  • Then turn back just a little bit, barely hearing a steady, even operation.
  • For a more obvious application of skills, it is more convenient to review the operation of an experienced user:

Interestingly, from the point of view of the author of the video, the setting (its correctness) is determined by the color of the candle, and not only by the rpm and stability of the engine.

Proper adjustment of the carburetor with their own hands in this case. the combustion of the fuel mixture without residue, the color of the candle should be light brown.

It is almost impossible to cover all carburetor varieties made by manufacturers of gasoline-powered trimmers. But since the design of this module, as well as its principle of operation is largely similar between different models, you can make a generalized description of the processes occurring in the carburetor. This information allows the user to understand the principles of the device, troubleshoot and operate it correctly.

The grass trimmer’s carburetor is based on a solid piece of aluminum. Below is a diagram of this unit.

At the bottom of it, there is a diffuser which is also called Venturi nozzle (18). The motor draws in air through this nozzle.

The upper part of the diffuser contains the fuel passages (11,12). Through these channels, the air flow, draws the gasoline. The fuel pump itself, the nozzles, and the system used to regulate the mixture of fuel and air can be either built in or externally installed.

The throttle valve (9) controls the amount of air drawn into the carburettor. Its number affects the power that the engine develops. The choke (7) is for the cold start. These must be closed if you intend to start the machine. After the engine has started, it is required to open it, otherwise, the engine will immediately stall.

How to correctly remove the clutch on a chainsaw

The impulse conduit (1) connects the impulse chamber of the pump with the engine crankcase, namely its internal volume. The piston in the cylinder reciprocates and successively changes the pressure in the crankcase (vacuum or pressure rise). Pressure differentials cause the diaphragm (4) to move. This is why the pump is synchronized with the motor.

operating principle

The throttle valve determines the amount of air to be fed and this has a direct effect on the engine output.

Fuel is drawn into the carburetor system by the pump (its diaphragm). flows through the nozzle in the carburetor. The fluid then moves through the inlet and outlet valves of the pump. Is filtered by the screen. The needle valve moves into the diaphragm chamber.

  • Supply air to the tube with an air damper (damper). The baffle plate controls the intensity of the airflow.
  • The fuel system is necessarily narrowed by a diffuser to increase the flow rate.
  • Gasoline flows through the float chamber and nozzle tube with a constriction. The float chamber regulates the temporary volume of gasoline. In the float chamber the pressure level is neutral, and in the tube with constriction the pressure level is already low. Differential pressure causes fuel to flow through the nozzle.
  • Acceleration of air flow promotes the fuel (gasoline) transfer and atomization. The result is an air-fuel mixture of the desired proportion or density.
  • The air-fuel mixture enters the cylinder through the fuel tube.

Simply put, adjusting the carburetor on a chainsaw is to create an optimal fuel mixture through the correct air supply.

The throttle valve determines the amount of air to feed, and the power of the engine directly depends on it.

Fuel is sucked into the carburetor system by the pump (its diaphragm). Then it passes through the fitting in the carburetor. The fluid then travels through the inlet and outlet valves of the pump. Is filtered by a strainer. flows through the needle valve into the diaphragm chamber.

  • Air is supplied into the tube with air partition (flap). Baffle plate controls the intensity of the air flow.
  • The fuel system is inevitably tapered by the mixer to speed up the flow.
  • Gasoline in the float chamber and restrictor nozzle. Chamber with float regulates temporary volume of petrol. The pressure level in the float chamber is neutral, but in the tube with a constriction, the pressure level is already low. Owing to the pressure drop, the fuel flows through the nozzle.
  • Acceleration of air flow promotes transfer of fuel (gasoline) and its atomization. Eventually air-fuel mixture of required proportion or density appears.
  • The air-fuel mixture seeps into the engine cylinder through the fuel pipe.

The area of the open air damper affects the level of air density in the system. The wider the opening of the flap, the higher the fuel consumption and the more power.

Simply put, the adjustment of the carburetor on a petrol brushcutter is to create a good fuel consistency through the correct supply of air.

Grass trimmer technical specifications

The STIHL 250 stands out with good technical parameters that allow it to carry out demanding cutting jobs under virtually all operating conditions.

Key features of the model include:

  • Built-in engine power. 2.2 l.с.;
  • The maximum speed of the engine. 9000 rpm;
  • 640 ml fuel capacity in the standard tank;
  • The maximum permissible diameter of mowing with a fishing line is 42 cm;
  • knife cutting diameter. 23 cm;
  • Standard boom length of 176 cm;
  • operating weight 6,4 kg.

The low engine noise level is one of the advantages of the brushcutter. When operating a grass trimmer under maximum loads, this parameter is 112 dB.

Mower delivery set

Ordering a STIHL FS 250 brushcutter gives you everything you need to start using your garden tool.

The grass trimmer’s basic package includes:

  • equipment for assembly and maintenance;
  • protective plastic cover;
  • double shoulder strap;
  • Plastic container for fuel preparation;
  • metal 2-blade cutting blade;
  • Saw head with 2.4 mm filament.

The machine can be delivered with 2-stroke engine oil, a protective boot, cutting blades and blades as an option.

Selection tips

According to current statistics, gasoline mower models are in the highest demand. This is largely due to their mobility and functionality. However, when choosing a particular model of equipment, it is necessary to take into account a number of other parameters. In situations like this, it’s worth comparing brushcutters with other trimmers.

Electric devices are connected to the domestic network with a voltage of 220 V. These machines do not pollute the air due to the lack of exhaust gases. No less important are minimal noise and comparatively low weight. At the same time, the processed area is significantly limited by the length of the used carriers.

Cordless models today represent the least common grass trimmers. The electric motor of such mowers is not powered by the network, but by the battery, which provides maximum mobility. However, the operating time of the technique is limited by the battery charge and averages 35-45 minutes. Another important point is a relatively high cost of cordless models.

Choosing a particular model of gasoline grass trimmer, it is necessary to take into account its technical characteristics. Thus, low-power devices are equipped with spools with a fishing line. Knives and cutters are used as cutting elements on faster and more powerful models.

Operating conditions are another important factor. Don’t forget about the mower’s price.

instructions for use

Particular attention should be paid to how to properly perform the first start-up and running-in of the gasoline mower. Proper actions will maximise the life of the grass trimmer and reduce maintenance and repair costs. Before you start the machine for the first time, you need to carry out a few preparatory steps. These include visual assessment of the gearbox and preparing a good fuel mixture, taking into account what kind of oil to fill according to the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations.

Unfortunately, even the careful and expert use of high-quality petrol lawnmowers does not completely eliminate the risk of malfunctions. Let’s consider the most common problems.

  • Engine does not start. The spark plug may have malfunctioned or there may be no fuel coming to the carburetor.
  • Unstable operation of the engine at idle speed. One of the most common reasons in such situations is the improper adjustment of the carburetor.
  • Grass trimmer doesn’t rev up and doesn’t provide enough power. Such phenomena are associated with the need to clean or replace the air filter, spark plugs, as well as adjust the carburetor and remove fouling in the muffler.
  • Engine overheating, which may be caused by the use of a low-quality fuel mixture.

Quite often owners of gasoline mowers have to deal with situations when they stall when pressing the gas. The most common cause in this case is improper operation of the carburetor, which requires adjustment. This most often occurs after prolonged storage or as a result of using the device in harsh conditions.

Stopping the engine when adding gas can be caused by a clogged fuel valve, which will need to be loosened slightly to resume normal gasoline flow. It is not uncommon to encounter a clogged breather, that is, check valve, located in the fuel tank. Among other things, the reasons that the grass trimmer engine stops, can be a slack cable in the carburetor and stretching the fuel hose.

Fuel is sucked into the carburetor system by the pump (its diaphragm). The carburettor on the STIHL brushcutter is then fed through the nozzle on the carburettor. Then the fluid travels through the inlet and outlet valves of the pump. Filtered through the wire mesh. Goes to the diaphragm chamber through the needle valve.

  • Air supply to the tube with an air baffle (damper). The baffle plate controls the amount of airflow.
  • The fuel supply system is necessarily narrowed by the mixer to accelerate the flow.
  • Gasoline flows through the float chamber and nozzle with a constriction. Float chamber adjusts temporary volume of gasoline. In the float chamber, the pressure level is neutral, but in the tube with constriction, the pressure level is already low. Fuel leaks through the nozzle thanks to the pressure differential.
  • Acceleration of the air flow promotes the fuel (gasoline) transfer and atomization. The result is an air-fuel mixture of the right mixture ratio or density.
  • The air-fuel mixture enters the engine cylinder through the fuel tube.

The left screw (H) affects the general regulation of the highest revolutions, engine power, temperature and petrol consumption.

Adjustment of the lawnmower carburetor with the last screw is as follows:

  • Open the throttle to full, while giving full throttle. Turn the screw clockwise until the revolutions are lower (in this case turn it by ear).
  • Turn screw as slowly as possible counterclockwise until the motor is uneven.
  • Then turn back very little, just a little bit hear a measured, smooth operation.

Curiously, based on the beliefs of the creator of the video, setting (its correctness) determined by the color of the candle, not only the revs and motor stability.

Correct adjustment of the carburetor with his hands in this case. the combustion of fuel consistency without residue, the color of the candle should be light brown.

Preparing to adjust the carburetor

The adjustment of all STIHL 250 fuel settings is performed with the top adjusting screw near the muffler. The factory setting, shown on the plastic top cover, specifies that it should be turned one turn from full torque.

The carburetor of the STIHL 250 with your own hands is adjusted during operation. Turning the screw enriches the working mixture, because the air-fuel mixture gets more gasoline, and tightening the screw depletes the working mixture, because the air-fuel mixture gets less gasoline.

Adjusting the carburetor will not produce positive results if there is air leaking from the engine side through:

A STIHL 250 carburetor should only be adjusted after a thorough inspection for possible air leaks. The next stage of the preparatory adjustment work is complete maintenance of all units and mechanisms.

  • cleaning of deposits, slags, and tar;
  • engine wash with solvent and acetone;
  • replacement of spark plugs;
  • cleaning, washing the air filter;
  • checking the cutting chain tension;
  • idle speed adjustment;
  • warming up the engine to working temperature.

You can then proceed to the complex manipulation of tuning.

Operating features

Every STIHL lawnmower is designed specifically for the intended use, depending on engine power. We expressly advise against making any repairs or extensions to the brushcutter. Before you buy a STIHL lawnmower, it is important to accurately determine the mowing application.

There is no point in buying a large grass trimmer for occasional lawn mowing. a lightweight petrol or electric mower should do the job.

When operating it, it is important:

  • Observe the operation/rest interval of 20 minutes.
  • Use high-quality gasoline, not lower than АI-92.
  • You should use original STIHL engine oil (50:1) for the fuel mix.
  • When running-in the engine up to 2-3 full fills of the fuel tank should not be allowed to operate at maximum load.
  • When preserving the grass mower for the winter or anticipated break in operation, in order to avoid engine damage, it is mandatory to drain the remaining gasoline from the fuel tank.
  • Check the fuel filter regularly. clean it or replace it with a new one. to ensure that it functions correctly.
  • To prevent serious malfunctions, you must avoid clogging the air filter.
  • Follow the safety precautions for your STIHL lawn mower.

A good understanding of how to operate your STIHL brushcutter is essential to its long life and trouble-free operation.

Weaknesses of trimmers and chain saws

STIHL brushcutters are renowned for their dependability. Unlike many other brands, they are equipped with a quality motor, cutting line, and are characterized by first-class assembly. But they will last a long time without the need for replacement maintenance only if you service them regularly:

  • inspection and cleaning of dirt;
  • Disassembly of the equipment and removal of carbon deposits on the internal parts;
  • Replace worn parts;
  • Putting on new grease.

Power tool problems and warning signs

These are not all the reasons your STIHL 38 Grass Trimmer needs repair. But these faults are solely the fault of the user and occur in 85% of cases.

Important! Some failures are difficult to determine on their own, you will need instrumental diagnosis.

For this procedure, experts use technical equipment that is available only in service centers. It can take up to 3 to 4 weeks to determine the cause of a malfunction yourself.

STIHL 250 ms malfunctions

Breakdowns and possible “diseases” of the chainsaw ms 250:

  • Stops or fails to start. The cause of this situation is probably clogged air filter or ignition system. The problem can be solved by cleaning the filters and replacing the spark plug, or by changing the ignition. You may also need to have your STIHL 250 carburetor regulated. have it serviced.
  • Chainsaw heating. Overheating often happens with improper use. The problem is solved by proper use of the chain saw, technological breaks every 120 minutes of sawing.
  • Sawing performance declines. The root of the problem is a dull chain or defects in chain lubrication. Lubricate chain regularly and check condition of links.
