Bit The Nut On The Angle Grinder How To Unscrew

The angle grinder is a multifunctional but whimsical tool that does not endure haste and negligence. Failures and malfunctions are the result of careless handling or safety violations. And the most common problem when working with an angle grinder is jamming of an abrasive tool between the support flange and the clamping nut. How to unscrew the disk on the angle grinder without damaging the parts and the tool itself?

Bit The Nut On The Angle Grinder How To Unscrew

Using an open-end wrench and socket head

Cut the working surface of the key by 17 to 4 mm in thickness. On the surface of the 24 mm face head, grind 4 tabs so that they fall into the holes of the flange.

The spanner must be placed under the disc. Insert the angle grinder on the nut with the socket and turn it with a ratchet in the direction of rotation of the circle.

Warming up

The pressure nut must be heated with a hot air gun or gas burner to make the metal more malleable. Then unscrew it with a universal key or hands. But the risk of this method lies in the fact that it is possible to spoil plastic parts and gear elements.

With a gas key

When using a gas key, the shoulder increases, therefore, the moment of force also increases. With this tool, it is easier to unwind jammed joints. But if you try too hard, you risk crushing the flange or breaking the spindle rotation lock.

Using a hammer drill in jackhammer mode

The hammer must be switched to the slotting mode without rotation. A 6 mm drill must be placed on the end of the flange or abut against the edge of the hole. The task is to unscrew the nut, move it from its place. After that, unscrew it with your hands or a key. During operation, the spindle rotation must be blocked.

Disk destruction

Before you unscrew the nut on the angle grinder, you will have to completely crush the disk. If it is already destroyed, you can break it with your hands. Whole circles can be cut with a hacksaw or metal blade. From the abrasive wheel should remain the inner metal ring and pieces that are not amenable to mechanical stress. Then you need to pinch a metal profile or any unnecessary plate, the thickness of which is less than or equal to the thickness of the disk (but not more). Then turn on the angle grinder and grind the remaining abrasive to the landing sleeve. After that, the flange can be easily unscrewed with a universal key for angle grinders.

You can take care in advance that the tool does not jam in the angle grinder:

  • cut the washers out of cardboard or plastic and place one under the disk, and the second between the disk and the flange. Even if the circle sticks, when heated, the plastic washer will melt;
  • The face of the abrasive tool that is marked with the label must be in contact with the support flange and not with the clamping nut. The metal ring of the circle with such an installation acts as a washer and protects against jamming;
  • weld a standard hex nut on the flange and unscrew it with a regular wrench;
  • If possible, the angle wrench should only be used to loosen the clamping nut. When installing a new tool, it is better to tighten it manually or at least control the tightening force.
