Chainsaw Husqvarna 5200 carburetor adjustment

Adjusting the carburetor of a Husqvarna chainsaw

Like all other saws, the husqvarna has the same carburetor adjustment algorithm. Therefore, the instructions will be relevant for other tools and models of chainsaws such as Husqvarna 142.236.

Before starting work, make sure that the air filter is clean and that all other components are working properly. The fuel supply to the float chamber should work without interruptions, and the ignition system is configured correctly and has a fresh spark plug.

  • Set the carburetor to factory settings. This must be done with the engine stopped.
  • Now you can start the engine and be sure to warm it up for a few minutes. Adjustment of the XX carburetor of Husqvarna 137 is carried out only on a warm engine.
  • Turning screw L clockwise, you need to set the highest speed of the crankshaft, then turn it back a quarter of a turn. Adjust the speed of the crankshaft with the screw T so that the chain does not rotate. It should not be set in motion without pressing the accelerator.
  • Now you need to set the maximum speed and their power. It is enough to connect the tachometer to the ignition system and set the maximum possible speed using the accelerator. Compare them with your passport data. If they differ, then unscrew or tighten the screw H. By changing the range, you can create restrictions to make the saw work efficient and save the motor resource.

What is responsible for the supply of a mixture of fuel and oil

For accurate delivery of fuel with oil, the operation of the fuel pump is used, which is mechanically driven from the crankshaft. The carburetor itself is equipped with a diaphragm and a special needle valve, which are responsible for regulating the pressure in the system. Thanks to them, the correct operation of the metering chambers and the pump is organized, which improves the operation of the chainsaw.

Equipment

The kit includes:

  • Chainsaw 5200 with Husqvarna logo;
  • chain with 72 links;
  • tire 52 cm long;
  • key;
  • packaging.

Fuel mixture preparation

When operating the chainsaw, a fuel mixture of gasoline and oil in a ratio of 15: 1 by volume should be used, that is, 1 liter of oil should be added to 15 liters of gasoline and the mixture should be thoroughly mixed. The amount of gasoline and oil in the fuel mixture is shown in this table:

Gasoline l one 2 3 four five 6 7 8 9 ten
Oil, l 0.06 0.13 0.20 0.26 0.33 0.40 0.46 0.53 0.60 0.66
Fuel mixture, l 1.06 2.13 3.20 4.26 5.33 6.40 7.46

8.53 9.60 10.66

ATTENTION! Application of oils: Lukony-2T; TNK-2T OIL: AZMOL Sport 2T GD ”and others, and used oil in the fuel mixture will lead to failure of the needle bearing of the connecting rod.

Safety requirements

  • Refuel the saw with fresh mixture.
  • Start the chainsaw at a distance of at least 3 m from the refueling point.
  • Do not smoke while operating and servicing the tool.
  • Use personal protective equipment.
  • In order to avoid kickback, do not cut with the end of the tire; you only need to cut with the entire blade. lowering the chainsaw from top to bottom.
  • Hold the saw with both hands when working.

What is the factory setting of a Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor?

In order for the saw to start anyway, even if the setting is incorrect, the factory settings of screws H and L are applied. Most Husqvarna chainsaws can be started by unscrewing both screws exactly one and a half turns. Only then can the position of the screws be changed in order to achieve the desired fuel consumption and maximum efficiency. It is regulated by XX also after these manipulations.

If you still have questions about adjusting the carburetor on the Husqvarna 137 chainsaw and other models of this line, I recommend watching this

A non-return valve is used to spray fuel into the cylinders.

The principle of operation is simple: it restricts the return of the mixture back to the chamber. All the main malfunctions of chainsaws, most often, manifest themselves when this mechanism does not work properly.

  • The most common mistake is storing the instrument for too long. The fact is that with prolonged inactivity, the valve sticks and either fills the cylinder with fuel, or simply does not open.
  • The second problem is an increase in the amount of air in the mixture, caused by its suction from the outside when the valve does not work properly. It is no longer possible to regulate here, since in this case only valve repair or its replacement helps, since the saw will not react to the adjusting screws.

Unlike the car, the carburetor setting of the chainsaw provides for three adjusting screws that are responsible for the quality of the mixture, the amount and nominal speed of the crankshaft of the Husqvarna engine:

  • screw L. designed to adjust the number of revolutions when operating in medium modes and regulates low revolutions;
  • Screw H. adjusts the number of high revolutions and thrust of the installation;
  • T. designed to adjust the total amount of fuel and adjust the operation of the throttle assembly.

It is not recommended to touch the first two screws without special skills. The problem is that if you configure them incorrectly, then the carburetor will not be able to start the engine, or even start it in the wrong operating modes. Such adjustment of the screw can lead to its early wear and failure. This principle is embedded in many devices.

Tools

The chainsaw is an indispensable tool, both in the home garden and in the summer cottage. But even the most reliable “iron” assistant begins to mope, then it does not start, then it stalls. There can be many reasons, both related to the quality of the fuel mixture and the engine.

There are a lot of nuances, we will not consider all of them in this article. And we will “take a closer look” at that part of the engine, which is called the carburetor. And we will try to find the answer to the following questions: when is it necessary to adjust the carburetor of a chainsaw and, in fact, what is the scheme of such an adjustment.

When is adjustment necessary

In general, the need to adjust the carburetor of a Stihl chainsaw, or any other brand, arises quite rarely. Signs of a misaligned carburetor are indicated by:

  • the engine starts and stalls, or does not start. in this case, the cause may be a “poor” fuel mixture;
  • fuel consumption has increased significantly and there has been an increase in the amount of exhaust gases (fuel does not burn completely). oversaturated mixture may be the cause.

The adjustment itself gets lost in very rare cases, namely:

  • when the fixation of the adjusting screws was broken, there are three of them. Vibration or damage to the protective cap may be the cause. It is quite rare that the screws have not been touched.
  • in case of significant engine wear, namely piston. Then the factory settings are not suitable. In this case, adjusting the carburetor of a Patriot chainsaw, or another model, can save the situation for a while. But here it is just right to think more about repairing the engine, rather than adjusting the carburetor of a Husqvarna chainsaw or the like;
  • the reason may be due to the formation of a blockage in the carburetor, the reason may be poor quality gasoline, damage to the air filter or scale. In this option, in addition to adjustment, it is necessary to disassemble and flush the carburetor.

Chainsaw carburetor device

Before proceeding with the adjustment, you need to know the structure and principle of operation of the carburetor. This will help avoid many “complications”. So, to begin with, let’s recall the principle of operation of an internal combustion engine. The cylinder contains fuel, and when burned, a small “explosion” is created, which creates a lot of pressure. This pressure pushes the piston, the piston, when set in motion, rotates the crankshaft. Ultimately, the pressure energy is converted into torque, which drives the chain through the sprocket.

chainsaw, husqvarna, 5200, carburetor, adjustment

During normal operation of the engine, it burns up to 10 milligrams of fuel in each cycle. And the fuel mixture is prepared and supplied in the carburetor.

Thus, the purpose of the carburetor is to mix the combustible mixture with air in the required proportions. If these proportions are violated, the operation of the engine is disrupted. For example, when mixing little fuel comes in, but on the contrary a lot of air, then such a mixture is called “lean”. Conversely, if there is not enough air, but on the contrary there is a lot of fuel, then this is a supersaturated mixture. Both cases lead to malfunctions in the normal operation of the engine and require adjustment.

The carburetor consists of the following basic elements, and although the design may differ depending on the model, the design and principle of operation are approximately the same:

  • the basis of the carburetor is a tube, which in its characteristics resembles a wind tunnel, an air flow enters through it; an air damper is located across the tube; by its position, it either increases the air flow or decreases it;
  • the tube is constricted. a diffuser that increases the speed of the air flow just in the place where the fuel supply hole is located;
  • the fuel itself enters the air channel from the sprayer, into which it enters through the nozzle from the float chamber (indicated in the photo as a fuel needle);
  • the float chamber itself serves as a kind of reservoir, the purpose of which is to ensure a constant fuel level at the entrance to the air channel.

The principle of operation of the carburetor is as follows. A fast air stream flows through the air channel, its speed will also depend on the position of the damper. The float level ensures the degree of opening of the fuel supply channel and depends on the position of the same air damper. The air flow passing through the diffuser picks up the incoming fuel and sprays it. At this moment, a mixture is formed, which is sucked through the intake pipe into the cylinder.

In the float chamber, the pressure level is approximately equal to atmospheric, but in the air channel it is rarefied. Due to the pressure difference, the fuel is sucked through the nozzle into the air duct. The more the air damper is open, the greater the air flow, and, accordingly, more fuel comes in. fuel. engine speed increases.

This is how the carburetor works. There may be nuances in its structure, but knowing how the simplest carburetor works, you can always understand and determine the purpose of other elements.

Chainsaw carburetor adjustment

Although quite rare, carburetor adjustments may still be required. Immediately, we note that not everything can be done independently, unless you have a tachometer and at least once see with your own eyes how to do it correctly.

To adjust the carburetor of the Makita chainsaw, like most other models, there are three adjusting screws. Although some manufacturers have carefully removed two of them, leaving only one for the user to experiment. So, three screws, on the carburetor body, they are indicated by the following letters:

  • L. this screw is used to adjust low engine speed;
  • H. high speed adjustment;
  • T. to adjust the idle speed (it is left for experiments).

In general, the carburetors are already adjusted by the manufacturer for optimal operation, and the screws are designed for more precise carburetor adjustment of Champion chainsaws and others, in difficult climatic conditions such as high altitudes, etc. Since the air is thinner there, more precise tuning is required for the instrument to operate. Under normal conditions, this does not need to be done.

To adjust the carburetor of a Goodluck chainsaw, as well as other brands, two screws L and H are used to create the appropriate quality of the fuel mixture. To create a lean mixture, the screws are turned clockwise, this allows you to increase the number of revolutions, i.e. thus, set high revs. Accordingly, when the screws are turned counterclockwise, the mixture turns out to be more saturated, this regulates the low number of engine revolutions. Thus, when adjusting the carburetor of the Partner chainsaw by turning the screws clockwise, we increase the number of revolutions, counterclockwise, we decrease.

With any adjustment of the carburetor of a Chinese chainsaw or other, a number of requirements must be observed:

How To Actually Tune A Chainsaw!

  • fine adjustment is always carried out with a warm engine (engine operation for at least 10 minutes);
  • the condition of the air filter must be satisfactory, i.e. clean and not clogged;
  • when rotating the chain with the adjusting screw T, it is necessary to achieve its complete stop, for this the screw is turned counterclockwise.

And do not forget about our own safety, the chain should be directed in the opposite direction to us, the saw should stand securely on a flat surface and not touch any objects with the cutting part. With fine adjustment, the screws are adjusted in the following sequence L. H. T. With the screw L it is necessary to “find” the maximum number of engine revolutions. To do this, turn the screw clockwise, or in the opposite direction, until we “grope” the maximum. This is where a tachometer is needed, or a sensitive ear for music, and you should know the sound of the engine speed limit, if you overdo it, especially with the H regulator, the engine will fail. Repair will cost a pretty penny, therefore we strongly recommend entrusting such work to a professional.

If you have a tachometer in stock and you know the maximum number of revolutions of your engine, then you can, at your own peril and risk, try to bring the adjustment to the end. It will look something like this: we find the closest value of the revolutions with the L regulator, then with the same regulators we return counterclockwise by a quarter of the screw turn. We leave and go to the regulator H, and if you tighten it too much, the engine will fail.

How To Adjust / Tune a Chainsaw Carburetor | Husqvarna Stihl BEST Way

We turn this regulator by ¼ turn of the screw counterclockwise (we warm up the engine before this). We listen carefully or orient ourselves to the tachometer. If to sound. our ideal, when the engine at maximum works like a four-stroke engine. If the mixture is too rich, a screeching sound. You can try to achieve an average value, not have an ideal, but remove the squealing sound with a screw. And if the work of the saw suits you, it is better to leave it as it is, it is better than to be left without an engine.

If it was possible to more or less adjust the screws L and H, then there is little left. to adjust the idle speed. The ideal here is to ensure that the engine runs evenly in all positions until the chain starts to move. Turn this screw counterclockwise until the chain stops. If this cannot be achieved, the help of a specialist is needed. An unadjusted chainsaw is a very dangerous thing.

A well-adjusted carburetor is:

  • idling chain “stands”;
  • the engine accelerates quickly;
  • engine operation resembles a four-stroke engine.

Below is a video of adjusting the chainsaw carburetor

First stage

The adjusting screws for the highest and lowest speed should be moved clockwise until the highest resistance is encountered. When the screws reach the stop, you need to move them in the opposite direction and leave them after 1.5 turns.

Checking acceleration work

A little research needs to be done. Device acceleration is initiated. The serviceability of the engine should be assessed during the maximum revolutions. When the engine is functioning correctly, then when you press the accelerator, the speed quickly increases to 15,000 rpm.

If this does not happen or the increase in speed is too slow, you must use the screw marked with the letter L. It turns counterclockwise. Moderate movements must be observed, since the turn cannot be more than 1/8 of a full circle.

How to adjust the carburetor on a chainsaw and properly adjust the idle speed with your own hands

For self-tuning the carburetor, you need to familiarize yourself with its device and remember the order of work that is carried out to adjust the parts responsible for the correct functioning of the constituent elements of the device and nearby parts. It is necessary to carefully handle objects for adjusting the chainsaw system, and also to determine the correspondence of the set parameters to the maximum permissible values.

Dismantling the carburetor if it is necessary to check or repair components

The device of different models of carburetors is almost the same, so when working with them, you can use the standard scheme. All elements must be removed carefully, and then laid out in the order below so that you can successfully place the items in place at the end of the repair work.

  • The top cover is removed. To do this, unscrew the 3 bolts holding it in a circle.
  • The foam rubber can also be removed, since it is the upper part of the filter that conducts air.
  • The fuel hose is removed.
  • The drive thrust is output directly to it.
  • The cable end is detached.
  • The petrol hose can be completely removed by systematically pulling it off the fitting.

To finally prepare the carburetor for overhaul or replacement of the smallest parts, you need to carefully disconnect it from the main system. Sometimes further disassembly is required. Unscrew the components carefully and fold the fasteners in groups, as these small parts are easily lost.

The main stage

The engine turns on at medium speed and warms up for about 10 minutes. The screw responsible for adjusting the idle speed must move clockwise. It is released only when the engine comes into stable operation. It is necessary to check that the chain does not move during this process.

In idle mode, the engine may stall (the reason is here). In this case, immediately turn the adjusting screw clockwise until it stops. Sometimes the chain starts to move. In this case, turn the adjusting screw in the opposite direction.

About the carburetor device

The carburetor is used to mix the combustible mixture with air in compliance with the predetermined proportions. If the exact dosages are not followed, the correct operation of the engine is jeopardized. When a large amount of air enters during the mixing of the components, and there is not enough fuel, then such a mixture is considered “lean”.

Over-saturation should not be allowed, since with a large amount of fuel compared to air, malfunctions or engine wear are also possible. Carburetor adjustment is necessary not only before initial use, but also when any abnormalities in its operation are detected. Before starting work with the chainsaw, do not forget to run it in.

The carburetor design contains a standard set of elements, but may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Components:

  • The foundation. It is a special tube that visually resembles an aerodynamic structure. Air passes through it. In the transverse direction, a damper is located in the middle of the pipe. Its position can be changed. The more it is pushed into the passage, the less air enters the engine.
  • Diffuser. This is the constricted part of the tube. With its help, the air flow rate increases exactly in the segment from which the fuel comes out.
  • Fuel supply channels. The fuel mixture is contained in the float chamber, then passes into the nozzle, from which it flows into the sprayer.
  • Float chamber. It is a separate structural element, reminiscent of the shape of a tank. Designed to constantly maintain an optimal level of fuel fluid in front of the entrance to the channel where the air comes from.

How to adjust the maximum RPM

To limit this value, you need to use the screw marked H. To increase the number of revolutions, turn it clockwise, and to decrease them in the opposite direction. The maximum frequency should not exceed 15000 rpm.

If you make this indicator higher, the engine of the device will work for wear, which will lead to problems in the ignition system. When turning this screw, you need to take into account the ignition processes of the device. If the slightest glitches appear, then the maximum speed value must be reduced.

What you should pay attention to?

Once your Husqvarna carburetor adjustment is complete, you need to make sure the engine is running smoothly and the saw can easily rev up and down. It is considered abnormal to rotate the chain at idle speed, therefore it is necessary to re-adjust its connection with the clutch using the screw H.

Do not forget that the unit is not set immediately: you need to wait a while, as the Husqvarna chainsaw does not immediately respond to changes in the position of the screws. This time can range from 5 to 15 seconds. This time does not prescribe the table, so you can only find out experimentally.

If, after adjustment, a huge amount of smoke appears during operation, then the supply of the fuel and oil mixture must be adjusted. For these purposes, rotate the screw L.

How the carburetor works on a Husqvarna 137 chainsaw?

On chainsaws of these models, the Walbro carburetor is most often installed from the factory. Before adjusting the Walbro carburetor on a Husqvarna chainsaw, you must have a minimum understanding of its structure and know how it works.

When carburetor adjustment is necessary?

The reasons why it will be necessary to adjust this unit can be listed for a very long time.

Among the main malfunctions are the following:

  • Increase in idle speed;
  • The appearance of a large amount of smoke during operation;
  • Deterioration of starting properties;
  • Insufficient tool power when cutting.

This is not a complete list of all known faults. Sometimes a procedure such as adjusting the carburetor on a Husqvarna chainsaw may need to be done after a major overhaul of the power plant or after maintenance.

The developers of the Husqvarna 137 write in the passport that the carburetor adjustment must be carried out before and after running in the tool.

How to adjust the carburetor on a Husqvarna 137 chainsaw

The chainsaw is a great helper for any man living in his home. The chainsaw device is a complex system that requires careful maintenance and requires increased attention. Today you will learn how to adjust the carburetor of a Husqvarna 137 chainsaw with your own hands in the garage.?

What is the factory setting of a Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor?

In order for the saw to start anyway, even if the setting is incorrect, the factory settings of screws H and L are applied. Most Husqvarna chainsaws can be started by unscrewing both screws exactly one and a half turns. Only then can the position of the screws be changed in order to achieve the desired fuel consumption and maximum efficiency. It is regulated by XX also after these manipulations.

What is responsible for the air supply

Two dampers are responsible for the air supply, installed on the diffuser chamber. The first can regulate the amount of air at the moment the accelerator is pressed and is called the throttle, and the second ensures the restriction of the air supply at the moment when the chainsaw is cold started. To facilitate starting, the flap is closed, which means that the mixture becomes rich, as it is saturated with a large amount of fuel. It is easier to work in this mode, but since it increases fuel consumption, this mode is not applied throughout the entire operation. The saw is worn out.

  • screw L. designed to adjust the number of revolutions when operating in medium modes and regulates low revolutions;
  • Screw H. adjusts the number of high revolutions and thrust of the installation;
  • T. designed to adjust the total amount of fuel and adjust the operation of the throttle assembly.
