Craftsman Battery Weedwacker Review | V60 Brushless String Trimmer. Craftsman gas weed wacker

Craftsman Battery Weedwacker Review | V60 Brushless String Trimmer

We got our hands on the brushless Craftsman V60 battery Weedwacker near the end of the mowing season for most of the country. The joy of living in Florida is that we don’t get to stop cutting our lawns for more than a couple of weeks at a time. With the grass still growing strong, we discovered there are some good reasons to consider this Craftsman string trimmer.

Pros

  • Excellent cutting power
  • 30-minute runtime in our tests
  • adjustable than most string trimmers
  • Excellent balance
  • Low vibration
  • Quickwind system makes reloading line easier

Recommendation

The design team did a really nice job on the Craftsman V60 brushless battery Weedwacker. The performance and runtime are there to make it a legitimate replacement for gas models and the greater adjustability of the design makes it comfortable for a wide range of people. If you’re looking to make the switch to cordless or are upgrading from a lower voltage system, we definitely recommend you put Craftsman V60 on your shortlist.

Performance

Craftsman’s V60 brushless motor has two speed settings: 0 – 5200 RPM and 0 – 6200 RPM. With a lot of 2-speed string trimmers, we find low is good for thin grass, but can really slow you down.

What’s nice about the balance of this trimmer’s speeds and 15-inch cutting swath is that in low, we were able to cut really effectively and only really had to kick it into high when we wanted to clear larger areas more quickly. Even with the 0.80-inch line, it does a great job.

We noticed that Craftsman did a very nice job with the harmonics of the design. We test a lot of string trimmers and with heads spinning at 5000 RPM and string flying out of the ends, some have quite a bit of vibration. While EGO still seems to have the smoothest operation, the V60 is right up there with the better models.

Runtime

We’re very pleased with the runtime we’re seeing from the Craftsman V60 battery Weedwacker. Testing at high speed with a light load, we ran for just over 30 continuous minutes. That’s plenty of trigger time to cover most lawns.

Low nets you even more runtime. Under the same conditions, the 2.5Ah battery ran for more than 53 minutes. Because it’s still very effective cutting at that speed, it’s a time frame you can legitimately expect if you have more area to cover.

Adjustability

Where Craftsman takes this Weedwacker to another level is with its adjustability. Like most string trimmers, you can slide the handle up or down to customize it to your reach.

You can also adjust the length of the shaft thanks to its telescoping design. From our more average guys to the tallest, we were able to find a more comfortable fit than normal.

Making life even easier, the Craftsman 60V battery Weedwacker uses quick clamps to lock those adjustments down. No matter whose turn it is to trim, you can quickly adjust the fit without the need for any tools.

Line Changes

Line changes are pretty simple with Craftsman’s “Quickwind” system. It’s similar to other quick-load heads. Line up the white lines on the head, run your line through halfway, and turn to load it. You don’t need to fumble tangled line or remember which way to wind.

The hardest part is actually feeding the initial line end through. There’s some bend in it and we found it takes a little maneuvering to get it just right. Once we relined a couple of times, we had a feel for it and things went more smoothly.

With these types of systems, you often turn the head and have to manage the line as you go so it doesn’t get too twisted. We found it easier to turn the base. Either way, you end up with properly loaded line with much less fuss.

The trimmer comes with 0.080-inch line and it’s a good fit for most folks. However, it’s also compatible with 0.095-inch line, so you may want to swap the line out if you’re clearing larger areas or thicker grass.

Versatrack Compatibility

If you’re using the VersaTrack system, you’ll be happy to know there a built-in hook for it. It recesses into the back, so just pull it out, hang it up, and you’re done.

Price

The Craftsman V60 Brushless Weedwacker comes with a 2.5Ah battery and charger. The retail price at Lowe’s is 239, and that’s a bit higher than what we see with comparable models from brands such as EGO or Greenworks.

That said, we’ve seen the kit on Amazon for less than 200, and that’s a pretty good deal.

The Bottom Line

The design team did a really nice job on the Craftsman V60 brushless battery Weedwacker. The performance and runtime are there to make it a legitimate replacement for gas models and the greater adjustability of the design makes it comfortable for a wide range of people. If you’re looking to make the switch to cordless or are upgrading from a lower voltage system, we definitely recommend you put Craftsman V60 on your shortlist.

Troubleshooting Craftsman 25cc gas trimmer Weedwacker

If you’re looking for a reliable and efficient tool for maintaining your lawn, a weed wacker is a great investment.

However, like any piece of equipment, even the most high-quality weed whackers can experience issues from time to time.

One of the most popular brands in the market is Craftsman, known for producing high-quality and durable tools. In this blog post, we will provide you with some tips and tricks for troubleshooting your Craftsman 25cc Weedwacker.

Troubleshooting Craftsman 25cc Weedwacker

Issue 1: Weedwacker Won’t Start

The most common complaint about the Craftsman 25cc weed wacker is that it will not start. This is usually due to a dirty carburetor or bad fuel mixture.

To help prevent this from happening in the future, make sure you are using fresh fuel and keep your carburetor clean by regularly running a cleaning solution through it.

You should also make sure that the spark plug is firing correctly and that there isn’t any debris clogging up the air filter.

  • Check the Fuel: The first thing you should do is check the fuel level in the tank. Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank, and if necessary, add more fuel. Also, check to see if the fuel is fresh and has not been sitting in the tank for an extended period. Old fuel can cause problems with the engine.
  • Check the Spark Plug: If the fuel level is adequate, the next thing you should do is check the spark plug. The spark plug is responsible for igniting the fuel in the engine. If the spark plug is dirty or damaged, it can cause problems with starting the engine. Remove the spark plug and inspect it for signs of wear or damage. If necessary, replace the spark plug with a new one.

  • Check the Air Filter: A clogged or dirty air filter can also cause problems with starting the engine. Check the air filter and clean or replace it as necessary.

  • Check the Carburetor: If the above steps do not solve the problem, you may need to check the carburetor. The carburetor mixes air and fuel to create a combustible mixture for the engine. If the carburetor is clogged or damaged, it can cause problems with starting the engine. Clean the carburetor or replace it if necessary.

Issue 2: Weedwacker Cuts Out During Use

If your weed-wacker cuts out during use, it’s likely due to a clogged fuel filter. The fuel filter is responsible for preventing dirt and debris from entering the carburetor.

If it becomes clogged, fuel flow can be restricted, leading to the engine stalling. To fix this issue, remove the fuel filter from the fuel tank and clean it using a soft-bristled brush and a carburetor cleaner. If it’s very dirty or damaged, you may need to replace it.

Another possible cause of your weed wacker cutting out is a clogged carburetor. The carburetor is responsible for mixing fuel and air to create the combustion needed to power the engine. If it becomes clogged, it can prevent fuel from entering the engine, leading to stalling.

To clean the carburetor, remove it and use a carburetor cleaner to spray and clean it. If it’s very dirty, you may need to soak it in a carburetor cleaner overnight before cleaning it.

Issue 3: Weedwacker is difficult to start

If your weed wacker is difficult to start, it’s likely due to an issue with the carburetor. As previously mentioned, the carburetor is responsible for mixing fuel and air to create the combustion needed to power the engine.

If the mixture is too lean or too rich, it can cause starting issues. To fix this issue, adjust the carburetor by turning the adjusting screws.

The screw closest to the air filter is the high-speed screw, and the screw closest to the fuel tank is the low-speed screw. Turn the screws clockwise to lean the mixture and counterclockwise to enrich the mixture. Start the weed wacker and adjust the screws until it runs smoothly.

Another possible cause of your weed wacker being difficult to start is a dirty or clogged muffler. The muffler is responsible for reducing the noise created by the engine and preventing exhaust gases from entering the air.

If it becomes clogged, it can restrict airflow, leading to starting issues. To clean the muffler, remove it and use a wire brush to remove any carbon buildup

This particular model of weed whackers can be temperamental when it comes to starting up. But with a few helpful troubleshooting tips and tricks, you can get your weed wacker running in no time.

Issue 4:Trimmer Head Won’t Turn

If the trimmer head won’t turn, there are several things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

  • Check the Trimmer Head: Make sure the trimmer head is not clogged with debris. Clean the trimmer head if necessary.
  • Check the Trimmer Line: Check the trimmer line to make sure it is not tangled or caught on something. If the trimmer line is tangled or caught, it can cause the trimmer head to stop turning.
  • Check the Drive Shaft: If the drive shaft is damaged, it can cause the trimmer head to stop turning. Check the drive shaft for damage and replace it if necessary.
  • Check the Clutch

If your weed wacker seems to be having trouble staying on after starting, it could be due to an issue with the throttle settings.

Make sure that the throttle cable is properly adjusted and that all settings are correct according to the user manual.

Additionally, check for any signs of wear or damage on the engine’s components and make sure all connections are secure.

If none of these tips helps resolve your issue, then you may need professional help from a technician who specializes in repairing small engines like this one.
