Difficulties Of Moving Or How To Teach A Dog To A New Booth
Why a pet does not go to the booth
There are several reasons why a dog may ignore a booth:
- The smell of another animal. If the kennel was inherited by the dog, he would almost certainly prefer not to enter “foreign territory”.
- Another unpleasant smell. Because of the acute sense of smell, the dog will experience severe discomfort if one of the elements of the booth or litter turns out to be sharply smelling (for example, because of paint or detergent).
- Tightness If the animal is already accustomed to living with the owners in a house or apartment, in any case it will seem very small to him.
- Breed features. There are breeds of dogs, in principle, not intended for street maintenance. So, if a guard dog in an aviary feels at home, then a companion dog, “expelled” to the street, will see it as an unfair punishment all its life, which will turn into depression, bitterness and distrust of people.
However, guard dogs may have their own preferences: for example, a good view of the territory is important for Caucasian Shepherd Dogs, and if the yard is hard to see from the booth, such a dog would prefer to sleep in the snow, but in a place where the station entrusted to him will be clearly visible.

From this video you will learn how to teach a dog to a booth or cage without psychological trauma for a pet, what methods are used for this.
How to equip a new home
It is desirable that the booth is located opposite the entrance to the house – so the dog will be able to see the owners more often. It should not be in the valley, otherwise due to rain or melting snow water will flow inside. For additional protection against heat, it can be placed on small supports.
There should not be a farmyard, garage, workshop or other facilities with strong odors.
It is important to choose the right size of the structure. The animal, sitting inside, should slightly touch the ceiling with the tips of the ears, and if desired, be able to stretch out to its full height on the floor. If the construction is smaller, the dog will be cramped and uncomfortable, and too spacious a dwelling may freeze through in winter.
Many dogs like to sit on the roof, so it is advisable to do it with a slope of no more than 10 cm. It is desirable that it be removable or foldable – this makes cleaning easier.
The inlet should be slightly lower than the withers of the dog in height and 2–3 cm wider than the width of her shoulders. It is advisable that the sun visor be above the entrance.
A doghouse for a puppy is made with a margin, focusing on the dimensions of an adult dog.
The design must be protected from leakage and drafts, otherwise the pet will not only feel uncomfortable, but may also get sick.
The roof needs to be covered with roofing felt. All boards should fit snugly together. It is desirable that they were pine. It is best to make the walls double, and between them lay the foam or felt. Sand the tree carefully so that no splinters remain. Do not use paints or varnishes with a pungent odor.
The floor must also be thick, dense, protected from freezing. Cover it with straw, cover with a tarpaulin on top, and lay a litter on it that has already been used and smelled like a dog.
Rules and secrets of schooling
It is important to conduct training gradually. To begin with, show the dog house and let it be easy to explore it. Put your favorite dog toy or treat inside, so that she has an incentive to enter.
The first time you can keep the dog on the street for about an hour. Do not leave her alone, praise and give us a treat when she comes into the booth.
Every day for about an hour, increase the time the dog should spend outside the house. Since in this case the booth will be the only shelter available to him, he will gradually get used to it.
You only need to take the animal home during bad weather. If the rain is light, it’s okay – the dog will just have the motivation to sit in a kennel.
All dog toys from now on should only be on the street or in the booth. The feeder also needs to be placed next to the new housing, and the diet at the time of schooling can be made more delicious. Praise the dog regularly when he enters the booth on his own.
Canine experts advise to put a ticking clock in the booth or next to it (if such were in the house). It is also believed that dogs are soothed by a bottle of warm water.
After a while, when the dog will spend a sufficient amount of time in the kennel, without showing fear or depression, you can leave him to sleep there all night.
Please note that it is much easier to teach a dog to a booth in spring or summer. In autumn and winter, cold and bad weather will create additional discomfort.
What not to do
If the dog does not go to the new booth, in no case do not need to scold or punish the animal, otherwise the new house will cause him unpleasant associations. In addition, the dog can become intimidated, which is a minus for the guard. Try to determine the reason for the rejection of new housing and eliminate it.
You can not close the dog inside or immediately put on a chain – this can cause psychological trauma. Similarly, if the booth is located in an open-air cage: you should not immediately put a puppy in a cage, aggravating his stress – for a start, he must get used to the fact that he can no longer be close to the owners.
Conduct the process of schooling smoothly, often praise and encourage your pet for the time spent in the booth, and soon he will love his new home.
