Doghouse Kennel For Dogs – Do It Yourself

Home> Do It Yourself> Do-It-Yourself Dog Box

Dog house must be built in compliance with the basic rules. Namely, it is very important to calculate in advance the size of the future kennel and make sketches and drawings.

But apart from the correct internal arrangement, the booth can be made really beautiful in appearance, and then it will become a wonderful design element on your garden plot!

In this regard, the construction "dog house»Can be an interesting activity not only for adults.

The kids will be happy to take part in the design and construction of such a house, and at the same time they will practice handling the hammer and saw.

As already mentioned, the first thing is to determine the dimensions of the future structure. It is necessary to proceed from the size, in fact, of the dog, as well as the temperature conditions in which the booth will be operated. After all, if a dog lives in it in the winter, the more internal space there is, the harder it will be to warm it.

Going in booth, the dog must be able to turn around inside and lie down freely.
If you have several pets, you can provide a partition inside.

In size, dogs can be divided into three groups: small, medium and large.

  • So, for small breeds of dogs (shih-tzu, dachshunds, etc.) – a booth with internal dimensions of 700×550 millimeters and height h = 600 mm.
  • For Rottweiler or Shar Pei (medium sized dogs) – 1200×750, height h = 800 mm.
  • Well, for large dogs such as Great Dane or Caucasian Shepherd – 1400×1000, h = 950.

For a more accurate calculation, you can use the following data:

  • Chest width – increase the value by 5-8 cm and get manhole width.
  • Height at withers – subtract 5 cm and get manhole height.
  • From nose to tailbooth width.
  • Dog heightbooth height.
  • Booth depth, As a rule, approximately equal to the height.

The resulting dimensions can be slightly modified upwards, but they should not be reduced. Otherwise, your dog will be crowded in the booth. Do not forget also that if your pet is still a puppy and should grow, then the size of the kennel should be laid on the growth.

Now that everything has become clear with the dimensions of the future structure, we need to draw a sketch.

The entrance-laz is best located in the long part of the booth, while shifting it to either side of the center. The roof can be of various shapes, for example, shed. But it will turn out much nicer if you perform its gable, with a small attic in which you can store, for example – dog toys.

Materials for the doghouse choose natural and environmentally friendly. There is simply no better building material than coniferous wood. Therefore, we need lining, grooved flooring, timber 100×100, 100×50 and 40×40, as well as small pogonage – fillet (narrow symmetrical baseboard) and decorative slats.

Let’s start with the bottom of the booth.

The floor must be warm and double. Saw two bars 40×40 – long equal to the width of the booth. Sew the floorboard on the bars and turn over the resulting structure.

Sew it down and install in the corners four bars 100×100 long equal to the height of the booth 45mm.

In the place where the entrance-laz will be located – install two bars 40×40.

Also fasten intermediate racks that are equal in length to the internal dimension of the height of the booth (they will be supported by a cover-ceiling).

Sheathe the outside of the kennel with clapboard.

Use galvanized nails with a small hat. Carefully monitor the vertical racks.

Now we make the cover-ceiling.

As the roof of the booth, – the cover-ceiling should must be removable. This is necessary to make it easier to carry out regular cleaning and treatment of the parasite booth by chemical means.

The ceiling should be warm. For the manufacture of a removable cover, use bars 40×40. Pound the perimeter of them and weft a sheet of plywood to it.

If the booth is quite large, then insert the intermediate bars in the middle of the perimeter so that the plywood does not sag.

Lay out the glass construction with glassine glazing and put mineral wool inside for insulation. You can make insulation foam.

Sew a second sheet of plywood on top.
For convenience – provide on the handle cover.

Make waterproofing the bottom of the booth.

Wood processing composition "Senezh" Prevents mold. In addition, this impregnation will make the wood flame retardant.

Lay the construction on its side and thoroughly saturate the bottom of the booth with "senezh".

Then, with the help of a stapler, secure the roofing material and nail two 100×50 lumber to the bottom. This will allow the bottom to be well ventilated and will make the booth even more insulated.

Bruce also covered with antiseptic impregnation "Senezh" or Pinotex.

Let’s do the warming of the walls and floor.

Lay down the bottom of the booth with glass wool, securing it with staples using a stapler. Lay a heater and once again cover it with glassine. This is necessary so that the micro particles in the glass wool do not penetrate and cause harm to your pet’s health.

If the booth is large, then add additional lag-stones to the bottom so that the floor does not “walk” under the weight of the dog.

Nail the finishing floor.

Do the same procedure with the booth walls.

Lay on the floor and nail a sheet of plywood so that the dog’s claws do not get stuck in the crevices.

Bottom and at the corners of the kennel – nail the fillet. Make the threshold and frame the manhole.

Start work on the roof of the booth with the manufacture of gables. Make the perimeters of the bar 40×40. In the front gable, provide an opening under the attic door. Cover the perimeters with clapboard and adjust the glassine with the stapler from the inside.

Since the roof of the booth, as well as the cover-ceiling, must be removable, do the following: drive the ends of the corner boards of the booth (but not completely) on the nail with a diameter of 7-10 mm, pre-drilled holes for them so that the bars do not crack. With a hacksaw, cut the caps.

It turned out the pins on which it is necessary to put the gables. Mark and drill holes in the gables for the pins. Install the gables in place. Now you need to make the roof sheathing.

Crate more convenient to do in place. But first you need to set the gables strictly vertically. Now it is necessary to pin the crate.

It can be made of lining or edged boards, providing releases back and front.

At the ends of the crate, nail the lining of the lining, and from the bottom – make a slab of plywood.

Shut the roof with roofing felt and lay the shingles, securing it with staples using a stapler.

It remains to paint the finished kennel with Pinotex. From the inside should not be painted! So, you can install it on a permanent place.

Under the roof lining, a small flashlight-night light will look great.

At night, this decor will decorate the booth and the surrounding space.

Arrange the booth It should be on a small hill so that rainwater does not accumulate under it, and there is enough space for ventilation of the bottom. It is best to bury four small base blocks in the ground, cover each of them with two or three layers of roofing material, as a waterproofing, and install a booth on top.

The booth is ready! It will be warm enough in winter and cool in summer. However, during the cold season, Laz needs to be veiled thick cloth curtains. They should be made with such a calculation that when the dog comes in, they fit snugly to the surface of the booth and block the entrance. To do this, the trunks must be weighed down by stitching sand-filled pockets down to them. So that the sand does not get wet and does not clutch from frost, it must first be poured into a plastic bag and then sewn into pockets on the curtains.

If you still decide to purchase a ready-made dog box, then pay attention to the quality of the material from which it is made. Are there blue spots and molds, loose knots, cracks in the tree, etc. Roof should be removable, and the floor of the kennel should not touch the surface of the earth.

The following materials were used for the construction of this kennel box:

  • Bar 100×100
  • Timber 100×50
  • 40×40 bar
  • Clapboard
  • Batten
  • Plywood
  • Fillet
  • Decorative rail
  • Galvanized nails
  • Ruberoid
  • Shingles
