No matter what you call it, it’s important that in the miter box we set the bar so as to make a cut at the very beginning. How to cut the corner of the baseboard at the right distance
The second and all other corners of the skirting boards must be done at a certain distance. If the next angle is again internal and the distance to it is less than the length of the bar, we use the same fragment that already has a gash. We measure the distance with a tape measure. strictly from corner to corner. Then this distance is laid on the bar using the same tape measure. The beginning of the measuring tape is combined with the protrusion, we measure the required distance, make a mark with a pencil. She will be the starting point for the cut.
You need to know at what distance to cut
The skirting board with a mark is laid in the miter box, the desired direction of washing is chosen. The dash can be combined with a hacksaw blade or with a slot in the miter box. To whom it is convenient. Cut off. This segment must be "tried on" in place. If both corners rest against opposite walls or the gap is only 1 mm, then everything is fine. If the wall length is longer than the length of the plinth plank, take a new plank. We’ll slaughter the second corner on it. It is important not to make a mistake in which direction to cut. By setting both planks along the wall, mark the connection point on one of them and make a direct cut. For a direct cut in the miter box, there are also slots. So there will be no problems.
How to connect two skirting boards on a straight line
But the joint in a straight line does not always look perfect, and during operation it often diverges, forming a visible gap. If you want, you can cut at an angle (any) two levels.
To do this, first cut off the edge of one bar at an angle, mark the second connection point. A mark is placed on the side of the baseboard that is pressed against the wall. At this point, we saw off another section, without changing the position of the saw relative to the miter box, but inserting the bar on the other side. The joint is obtained obliquely. He is more accurate. Especially the difference is visible on wooden skirting boards and MDF. The slice, again, is brought to mind using sandpaper.

In apartments or houses there are not only internal corners, but also external ones. In this case, first cut the nearest inner corner, modify it. When it is ready, you can make the outer corner on the baseboard. We put the bar in the corner, as it should be. In the place of the outer corner with a pencil, make a mark exactly at the place of rotation.

The intersection of the two lines will be the docking point of the two skirting boards.

Now we again place the baseboard, set it in the way it will be attached. We make two marks: at the top at the turn, at the bottom at the place where the lines drawn by us intersect. Now an important task: it is necessary to make a cut on these marks. If there is a miter saw or miter box with an adjustable tilt of the saw. set it and cut it. If not, carefully cut with a hacksaw. In order not to get off, you can use a pencil to put a fishing line on which you need to saw. Similarly, mark and cut off the second part. With an internal corner of a non-standard size, everything is exactly the same. We put the baseboard in the corner, draw a straight line on the floor. We do it on the other hand. Transfer the intersection point to the slats.
How and how to cut a plastic baseboard
All of the above applies to MDF skirting boards and wood. Cutting them with an ordinary hacksaw is not a problem. It is advisable to take a sheet of metal, as it has a finer tooth and saw cut is smoother, less work with sandpaper. With plastic, the situation is different. when you try to cut a piece, some thin-walled baseboards crumble and break.
Plastic cutting is not very convenient due to thin walls
To cut the normal quality of plastic skirting boards, you can use:
- Hacksaw for metal.

- Turning miter saw. Before cutting, accelerate the disk and only then start cutting.
- Jigsaw and file with a small tooth. Here you have to try. pick up speed and file.

To determine what is more convenient for you to cut a plastic floor skirting, only personal experience will help. If you have a miter saw, try using it. There are, of course, special scissors for plastic, but for a single use they are too expensive to buy.

The fact is that the accessories for rigidity have their own jumpers. Here for them it is also necessary to retreat a couple of millimeters, but no more. Otherwise, a gap will appear or the skirting boards will pop out of these corners.

I must say that not everyone likes the look of plastic corners. You can make a corner on a PVC skirting board in the same way as described for wood or MDF. The only difficulty is that you have to be careful with plastic. it breaks down from excessive efforts. There is one trick. before cutting a plastic baseboard, add a little mounting foam on the back and wait for the polymerization to begin. It will be tougher, easier to cut, less deformation. If the foam subsequently interferes, it is not a problem to remove it, but cutting, and it is true, is easier.
How to connect with a door platband
You know how to make a corner on the baseboard neatly, but that’s not all. The room most often has doors. By the way, they must be installed before fixing the skirting boards. So, you still need to properly dock skirting boards with platbands on the door. If you just cut off exactly, it turns out roughly. There are stubs for plastic. not the most elegant way, but quite acceptable. Wooden can also be trimmed by cutting the “face” obliquely. Also “not ice”, but already something. And what to do with MDF skirting boards, because they drank unpresentable from them? There is a way to arrange a beautiful junction with the jambs. It will be necessary to make two cuts at an angle of 45 degrees (see photo below).
How to properly arrange the joint of the plinth and the door jamb
If the edge is not even, first we cut it off strictly perpendicularly. Relatively aligned edges make a cut at 45 degrees. A small cut off piece will be useful to us for making adjacencies. Ways to cut platbands at 45 degrees without resorting to using miter box
The easiest way is to use an ordinary protractor, which is in every house where a school-age child lives. With his help, markup is not so difficult.

It’s important that he drank himself. To avoid the formation of cracks, it is recommended to use a hacksaw not for wood, but for metal. Yes, this method requires more time, but for that the cut will be much more accurate and even.
When the marking using the protractor is done, you need to position the platband on a horizontal surface so that the front side is at the top. It is recommended to cut along the entire plane of the clypeus.
If there are no stationery nearby, you can use the usual tile, with which you can draw an angle of 90 degrees. Dividing it into 2 halves, we get a template for a 45-degree angle, which can be used for marking instead of the miter box.
If there is a ruler. the task is simplified immediately several times. You just need to take sheet A-4 and draw a square, and then draw the bisectors of the corners. To make it more convenient, you can take a small board and attach it to one of the corners, which will fix the structure. Well, then you need to attach the platband and start sawing.
How to make a miter box at home?
If the above methods are not to your liking. you can make a miter box at home on your own. Miter box. a device resembling a tray in its shape, which has a U-shaped shape.
It is equipped with cuts for saws designed to cut the material at a certain angle. The dimensions of the parts are not very important, but the wider our home-made device will be, the wider and more accurately we will be able to saw wide rails.

Everything needs to be done wisely, it is also not worth overdoing it, because if the width of the miter box exceeds half the width of the hacksaw, it will be inconvenient to saw.
You can make markings using the above methods, and then use small pieces of plywood and a hacksaw. And in order to fasten everything, you can use self-tapping screws or even super glue. However, all this is more complicated and will take much longer, although it will provide the most accurate result (of course, if everything is done correctly).
