Hammer (Konura) Own Hands
Hoist (KONURA) OWN HANDS. HOW TO MAKE A BOOK FOR A DOG – INSTRUCTION
For a dog who lives on the street, her shed is an extremely necessary building for a comfortable stay, this is her house where she rests, hides from frost, rain, snow in winter and hides from the heat in the summer.
Before construction of a dog kennel you need to choose the most suitable place for its location.
For this you need to be guided by the following:
the location of the kennel must be dry and moderately sunny;
there should be no other pets near the booth, as their waste products adversely affect the pet’s health;
the place should be spacious and free to move;
Remember, any objects located nearby can be a favorite entertainment for your four-legged friend;
the dog from the booth must see everything that happens around, all family members and guests, otherwise he will always be excited about something.
Choosing a booth design and material
Dog kennels can be very diverse, both inside and outside.
The simplest version of the kennel is a square, usually rectangular shape with a manhole closed by some kind of cloth.
A more thoughtful and comfortable dog is a booth with a vestibule. It protects the pet from cold, rain, snow and wind much better. Basically, the vestibule is not insulated, however, if you want to further reduce the heat loss of your home, then it is better to fix the foam or mineral wool layer, and hang a curtain at the entrance, for example, from an old overcoat.
Pine and spruce boards are the best material for building a doghouse; it is not only durable and practical, but also capable of repelling various intrusive insects with its smell.
Brick, plywood, foam blocks, etc., are not the best option for a kennel, as over time these materials will begin to stratify.
For the frame fit the bars of 40 × 40 (50 × 50) or 40 × 25 (50 × 25) millimeters. For exterior plating – wooden lining, plastic eurolining, etc. For interior lining – lining or waterproof plywood with a thickness of at least 5 millimeters. A rabbitted floorboard is ideal as a floor covering for a kennel. Mineral wool, foam – an excellent option, serving as a heater.
The dimensions of the booth are selected based on the size of its owner and the climate of the environment. Conditionally dogs are divided into small, medium and large. Booths are divided according to the same principle. For the smallest, for example, shih-tzu, dachshunds, a doghouse with a height of 600 mm, a length of 700 mm, and a width of 550 mm will be comfortable. For medium-sized, Rottweiler, German Shepherd dogs, a booth with dimensions of 750x1200x800 mm will suit. For averages, for example, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog, a dwelling with dimensions of 1100x1400x1000 mm would be ideal.
However, amendments are also possible based on the individual characteristics of your four-legged pet. The dog should enter without problems, and turn around in the booth. The width of the manhole is made across the width of the chest, adding 50-100 mm. The height of the manhole is determined by the height of the animal minus 50 mm.
It is worth remembering that too spacious kennel will not warm up during the winter, so it is important to make it the most optimal size for the dog.
From the outset, you should decide on the dimensions of the dog’s home and cut out all the details of the intended size. Then you can proceed to the assembly of the kennel for your favorite animal.
It is always necessary to start building a dog house from the bottom. To make the booth as warm and comfortable as possible, the floor should be slightly elevated above the ground or made double. To do this, use two 40 × 40 lumber, on top of which, fix the floorboard. To keep your favorite pet’s claws from getting stuck in the crevices, lay a sheet of plywood on the floor.
The next stage is the construction of the frame of the future booth. The best option to ensure maximum warmth of the dog’s home will be a structure consisting of double dense walls, between which there is a heater, for example, mineral wool.
Four support posts 100 × 100 in length equal to the height of the booth plus 4-5 cm are mounted at the corners of the finished base; install a harness of bars along the upper part of them. After that you should organize the entrance area.
Nails should be hammered from the inside of the frame, for additional strengthening of the wooden frame, use screws.
The roof should fit snugly to the walls of the kennel, but it is not desirable that it be nailed tightly, as this will further complicate the process of cleaning the canine home.
As the roofing material is well suited profiled, tile or slate.
For the manufacture of the roof structure, wooden bars 40 × 40 are used, of which the perimeter is knocked down, on which the sheets of plywood are mounted.
If the doghouse is large, then in order for the plywood not to sag in the middle it is necessary to install intermediate bars.
The length of the timber for the ridge of the roof should be somewhat greater than the length of the dog kennel itself in order to provide a canopy behind and in front. Secure it over the roof pillars. On each side of the roof you need three rafters, the upper ends of which must be cut at the angle of the roof. Initially, attaching rafters to the ridge, mark the points of contact with the frame of the kennel, and then use a hacksaw to prepare triangular grooves. Next, carefully fasten the ends of the rafters to the booth. Connect the horizontal bars to the frame posts. To the lower end of the rafters, nail the bar, slightly protruding from both sides of the roof.
Cut four more rafters (2 pairs each), nail their upper ends with nails to the ridge, and attach the lower ones to the slats previously stuffed to the frame rafters. The result should be a roof frame in the form of a triangle.
Then obbeyte the resulting frame plywood.
So that in future, the roof for cleaning could be raised at the ends of the corner boards, drive half nails with a diameter of about 10 mm, and cut the caps off. Gables will be put on these pins, in which holes should also be made.
For convenience, handles can be equipped on the roof.
If your pet is sitting on a leash, then be sure to take care of some kind of canopy in front of the booth so that he can hide in the cool shade.
Warming dog booths
Wooden boards must be treated with a special solution from the appearance of mold and, accordingly, an increase in service life. Soak this liquid to the entire kennel, starting from the bottom and ending with the roof.
Initially, parchment is laid on the bottom of the booth, which serves as a vapor barrier and is secured with a stapler. Then the insulation is fixed, for example, mineral wool or foam, after which the parchment is once again covered. This is necessary in order to prevent the penetration of micro-particles of insulation to the outside, which may adversely affect the health of the animal. Then fix the sheet of plywood.
The same principle is used to insulate the walls of a dog’s dwelling: the vapor barrier is fixed, then the insulation is insulated, and then the waterproofing is laid and sheathed outside.
At the entrance to the booth it is better to equip the curtains with felt or tarpaulin, which forms an additional protection for the pet from cold and heat. To prevent the tarpaulin from rising at the bottom of the curtain during strong winds, attach special plastic bags with sand.
Consider the option of additional insulation booths. The rule always works: the smaller the room where the dog is located, the easier it is to heat it with the heat of your body.
Let’s take as a basis the warmed booth with the platform. The walls of the vestibule, like the whole booth, are insulated, and the entrance is covered with a curtain.
Inside the booth is another partition with a curtain. It can be made removable, it is removed for the summer – it turns out a spacious room where the dog can lie on its side to its full height, and is mounted for the winter, while more than half of the room is allocated to the platform – it turns out a square space where the dog can sleep, curled up.
The change is to increase the space of the vestibule and reduce the bed.
The dog will now have two beds: a vestibule is a colder space, and a small nest bedroom is warmer. In which of them is located, the four-legged pet itself will decide.
After the construction process is completed, the outside and inside of the kennel must be sheathed with roofing material with galvanized nails. For interior cladding fit wall paneling, plywood or chipboard, pre-saturated with linseed oil or varnish.
Exterior plating is more demanding on materials, since a booth must combine not only efficiency, but also attractiveness. For these purposes, such lumber as lining, block-house, wood panels, etc. are ideal. To prevent water from getting into the gaps, lining should be fixed with self-tapping screws with a spike upwards. The tree outside is impregnated with a protective composition, if desired, painted. A dog shed will look very harmonious and attractive, covered with the same material as your house, for example, stone, siding, etc.
For your pet, you must make a soft bed of hay, straw or sawdust.
The most optimal warrant will be the use of pine and cedar sawdust for this purpose. They are very soft, perfectly absorb excess moisture and bad odors, in addition, they are not bad at repelling various insects. They are environmentally friendly and have a pleasant pine or cedar smell.
Hay or straw can also be used as a litter, but experts do not advise doing this, since various organic bacteria are often found in these organic materials and they attract parasites, which can lead to infection of your beloved pet with various diseases.
Always remember that dogs require special care and domestic warmth, so the construction of a warm and cozy dog house should be taken responsibly.
