How Much And What Material Is Needed For The Manufacture Of Dog Booths
Hello! The administration of our city has allocated us land (1 hectare) for the construction of a shelter for homeless animals. They are asked to draw up a business plan for the construction of all necessary premises, including booths. Please help me calculate the forest for one booth and how it should look like according to the norms. Thanks a lot in advance!
Hi, Tatyana from Lipetsk!
You look good on the background of the well-frame. Although there is a remark – the well chain is valued when it is not galvanized, but dark, such as are used in old village wells.
A thousand apologies for delayed response for a variety of reasons.
And now on the merits.
As far as I know, there are no standards, GOST standards, OSTs and specifications for dog kennels or kennels. At least they are unknown to me. In the relevant section of my site on this subject there is an approximate sketch. It is designed for a medium sized dog.
But I hasten to make a reservation that the sketch is more suitable for the construction of an individual dwelling for a personal dog. For a dog shelter, in my opinion, a kennel should be somewhat different, more simplified, which is important during serial construction.
Therefore, I am making an approximate calculation of the required materials for one such canine dwelling.
And bring a new sketch of this structure in the winter version.
Sketch dog kennels
Sizes are taken for a medium-sized dog, but if desired, larger individuals will fit in such a kennel, and smaller ones will fit in a pair or more.
The design features are that the inlet is biased to the side, so the material is more efficiently used. In the middle of all walls, floor and ceiling, additional bars are used to avoid distortion and sagging, as well as for strength. The roof should be sloped backwards to allow rainwater to drain. The floor, like everything else (walls and ceiling), is double, with a doghouse insulation.
The litter inside the kennel – periodically replaced coniferous chips (without a clearly increased resin content! So as not to adhere to the dog’s hair.)
Cleaning the insides of the kennel – rake and mops through the inlet. Sometimes make removable roofs, but with such bells and whistles there are certain difficulties.
It is proposed to use universal edged sawn timber as a building material.
Considered the cheapest option. That is, an edged board with a thickness of 20 millimeters, a bar with a cross section of 50/50 millimeters (the optimal size for the possibility of using insulation booth standard with a thickness of 50 millimeters).
Board in two layers on the floor, on all walls and in one layer on the roof. Instead of the second layer on the roof – plate (slate). That is, the boards are about 10 square meters. In cubes it will be at a thickness of 20 millimeters – about 0.2. If the thickness of the board is not 20 millimeters, but, for example, 25, then 0.25 cubic meters will be needed.
The bar is 50/50 millimeters. He will need about 18 meters. That is, when buying one-dimensional bars (3 or 4 meters), consider that you need 6 pieces of three meters or 4.5 pieces of four meters.
All calculations, as mentioned and will be said, are approximate, as well as mounting them on site. After all, the sketch shows that the bars of the back wall are less than a meter, the stands are also different from the meter.
From other materials (not wood) – nails in the range / length from 40 to 70 millimeters, ordinary or more expensive galvanized /. About 1.5 -2 kilograms.
Wood screws are black / length 40 and 60 millimeters /, in their heads for coagulation they are stronger than galvanized, although dark drips from moisture will be visible on wood. 0.5 to 0.8 kilogram.
Film. It is preferable to ordinary glassine (grade PS150, not lower), due to the absence of odor. The cheapest film is a regular polyethylene film, although various heat-insulating and moisture-proof films can be used (they cost about 800 rubles per 70 meter roll, 1.5 meters wide). About 5-6 square meters in a single layer and about 11 square meters with two layers (which happens when lining with insulation film on both sides).
Stapler staples for mounting film. 100 staples for 1 kennel, that is, 1 pack of 1000 staples is enough for 10 kennels.
Impregnation for covering wood konury outside in two layers for better preservation of wood. Type KSD or "Senezh", but always with a reddish color. Up to the addition of color there, because when painting with a colorless composition it is not visible, but if there was painting at all, and it will be visible at least once painted. About 0.5 liters will go to one kennel, I can be mistaken, since this is determined not only by the inscription on the label of the canister on the consumption per square meter, but also by the condition of the wood surface. The floor is covered from the bottom surface, the back wall is outside and the side walls of the outermost dog houses. When installing these in a long row.
Sand-cement blocks (20/20/40 centimeters in size) for lining under the bottom of the kennel – 2 pieces (resting on them only for half of the block, the adjacent kennel also leans on half of the blocks. That is, if there was only one kennel, then 4 blocks are needed , and if several kennels go abreast, the calculation is different).
The blocks are covered with two layers of ruberoid of any brand (for dogs it is not very good from an environmental point of view, but the base of the kennel will not rot. The area is 0.32 square meters for one kennel. That is, a 10 meter roll of roofing material is enough for about 30 dog houses.
As a heater, I personally would use chips from the nearest woodworking enterprise. Since the enemy of both foam and all kinds of isovers and their analogues. Just look at their packaging, where even people are recommended to put on gauze bandages and glasses. And in dogs, these organs perform more important functions than in humans.
I don’t know what you will use, but if I dislike glass-containing soft insulation, then it is necessary to cover them on both sides with films, less and less filth will enter the body of dogs. And the same isover will require 5.5 square meters 50 millimeter thick. Go to the market, see how much a square meter enters into a roll with such thickness and how many booths such a roll will be enough. This area depends on the manufacturer.
For a shed roof, it is advisable to use flat sheets of a cement chip plate, or, in extreme cases, slate. The European Union, however, has not applied asbestos-containing materials, such as slate, for nearly ten years due to the presence of asbestos-carcinogen causing cancer. But this applies primarily to people. With regard to animals, such a prohibition is or is not, then I do not know.
The thickness of the plates is optimal at 10 millimeters, a width of about 1250 millimeters and a length of three meters. Since it is better to put the plates on several doghouses at once, they are put along, placing a polyethylene (or other) film under the joints. The front and rear overhangs of the slab above the walls are made approximately the same.
That is, one kennel needs approximately 1.25 square meters.
I do not consider all other materials for the roof; for the most part, they are either expensive or have some disadvantages.
As a warmed door for the kennel it is possible to use durable tarpaulin. It is made in the form of two halves-folds. It is desirable in two layers with an investment between them insulation type cotton wool. The similarity of car covers that are sometimes placed over the hood of cars. Or the like of sports gymnastic mats. The need for about 1.2 meters square. The coil is a harsh thread for an N-number of curtains (depending on the length of winding).
Sometimes a hollow is placed at the bottom of the canvas curtain into which oblong plastic bags with sand are placed so that the wind does not open the kennel opening and does not blow on the dogs.
I don’t cite the number of packages, in the supermarket buy on all the booths that you will have on 1 hectare of land allocated.
About the tools needed for mounting dog buildings (hammers, handsaws, squares, construction levels, shovels, screwdrivers, screwdrivers, circular saw, planers, axes) and consumables (rollers, brushes, building pencils, bits for self-tapping screws, sailing needles and austerity thread works with a canvas curtain-door) and some other things I don’t say, it goes without saying.
Between the neighboring kennels the netting of the chain-link does not hurt, especially for evil and difficult dogs, but this is up to you. Then the fenced area in front of the kennels and the gate are necessary.
With all the calculations estimates are laid from 5 to 10% of the material consumption above the norm. That is, a bar, a board, etc. may be of inadequate quality, with a glare, there may be wastes that can not be used anywhere except in a bonfire.
I am not talking about fraudulent schemes, if people who deal with wordless dogs have this, then they should not have a bottom or a tire!
You can talk for a long time about our smaller brothers, but it is time and the honor to know, I need to answer other questions, “sew up”.
And once again you "go through" all my calculations, suddenly where was wrong. As Hans Christian Andersen used to say, even the police sometimes make mistakes, and even more so.
