How To Build A Dog House
When a dog appears in the house, the question of shelter immediately arises: somewhere it must sleep and hide from the rain. Not everyone wants and can keep them in the house, because the kennel is required. The dog house is built with its own hands, even without skills, in one day. There is nothing difficult, but there are features.
When building a booth you need to focus on the size of the dog
We determine the size and design
The right dog house is built for a reason: you need to know what size it is needed, where and what size to make a hole, what is better to make and how to warm.
If your pet does not exceed the average size of its breed, you should not increase the booth: it will be difficult to warm it in the winter. Please note that these are internal dimensions; if the plating is planned, the dimensions increase by the wall thickness.
Sizing dog kennels
What is the width of the hole
There are recommendations on the width of the manhole. It is determined depending on the width of the chest of the dog. Measure, add 5 cm, get the width of the manhole. The height depends on the height of the withers: you also add 5 cm to the measured value. For a puppy, the manhole is made small at first – a little more than required, as it grows it is increased.
Laz in a dog house is located not in the center, but closer to one of the walls. With this structure, the dog will be able to hide from precipitation or wind behind a solid wall, curled up in a protected part. Often they propose to divide the booth by a partition, making a kind of “vestibule” and sleeping area. But hiding in the fenced compartment, the dog can not control what is happening in the entrusted territory. Many bona fide watchmen do not like to go there. Some, even in the most severe frosts, lie opposite the entrance, not wanting to leave the post. So, the version with offset hole presented in the photo is optimal.
The roof is better to make a folding
Type of roof
The roof in the dog box can be single or double gable. Shed, preferable: not very large animals like to sit / lie on it. So they can control a large area.
Another point: since there is no heating in the booth, in winter the air in it is heated from the heat generated by the body. The greater the volume, the longer the kennel will bask. The gable roof on the doghouse just greatly increases this volume without bringing any other good. If you want your dog to be good, make a lean-to roof.
If you don’t like it at all in terms of aesthetics, make a ceiling and the roof itself above. Moreover, it is desirable to make it removable or folding – on the hinges. So it will be more convenient to carry out periodic cleaning and disinfection: organic residues clog in the gap, in which fleas breed. Here from them also it is necessary to process the kennel from time to time.
The dog box must have a floor raised above the ground. To do this, make legs with a height of at least a few centimeters or knock down the frame, which is laid directly on the floor boards.
In general, if possible, dogs prefer to spend time outside. Because it would be nice to do in front of a dog house or on the side of her canopy. And in order to have the opportunity to sit / lie under it – to make the flooring.
I see everything, I hear everything))
This booth does not have a folding roof, but a front wall, which is also convenient when processing.
What to build and how to warm
Most often the dog box is made of wood or wood-based materials. Wood is preferable – it keeps cool in summer and warm in winter. In it, the dog will quite comfortably carry the winter, if the boards are fitted tightly, there are no cracks, even a single wall wooden booth is warm. To, by the way, the dog box turned out without cracks, use a cut board, sometimes even grooved.
Concrete and brick kiosks are not the best choice: they have a good heat, in the summer they are too hot, in the winter – very cold. That is why dogs often prefer to sleep in the open, rather than in a brick kennel.
If wood is too expensive, use a frame for the frame, and everything else can be made of OSB, DVP, plywood. If you use wood sheet material, you may need two layers of it: it is still much thinner than wood and, due to the presence of the binder, has better thermal conductivity (it retains heat worse). Therefore, in this case, you can think about the insulation of the booth for the winter.
Doghouse made of plywood: an example of warming
It is possible to warm any suitable material. You can use the remnants of the construction of houses, villas, baths. It may be mineral wool (as pictured), foam or other material. Warm up with foam plastic, do not overdo it: it does not let air through, and if you hang a curtain on a manhole, the dog will stop sitting in the booth: there will not be enough air for it. Because or leave a small gap or provide some kind of air intake channel.
If we are to insulate, then the floor and the roof too. They are also made double, laying the same insulation. Too large layer of insulation should not be done: the dog itself can warm up well, besides it has a decent fur coat. And for her worse – frequent sudden changes in temperature than constant cold. If you want the dog to be warm, fill the kennel with a straw for the winter: it should be trampled where necessary, the excess should be thrown away. It is necessary to change such a litter twice during the winter.
For the winter, a dense fabric is cut over a manhole, cut into fairly thick strips. Two chopped noodles of the cloth is fixed with a shear incision. This is how it turns out that the wind does not blow the dog’s box, and the entrance / exit is free. But some dogs do not immediately get used to this innovation and sometimes refuse to go inside.
Outside the booth can be painted, from the inside – no. The canopy and the wall from the wind (preferably one deaf) is treated with antiseptics. It makes no sense to paint them. The main thing is to make the roof without gaps, so that it does not bleed inside or blow out.
A canopy for firewood or a wood grabber is easy to do by hand. How to read here.
Insulated dog house with their own hands
If we talk about the drawings, but no "frills" animals are not needed and too large sizes, too. For them, this is a hole, and it is large, by definition, it cannot be, and it is difficult to heat excess volumes in winter. The booth was made with two windproof walls and a small canopy.
Ready dog box
First, they made two pallets in size with supports for four square bars, then they were connected to each other. The result was a podium on which the floorboards were fixed. The legs in the design are desirable – the floor will not get wet.
Ready floor for the box
In the corners secured bars. At the junction there were six pieces: four on the kennel itself, two in front for the windproof walls. First, they made the inner lining, to which they fixed 7 cm of penoplex, then sheathed the outside. To prevent water from flowing into the walls between the boards, the gap from above is closed with a strip of suitable width.
Walls in a booth with insulation
When facing the wall to which the windproof wall adjoins, the boards used whole ones – so the construction is more rigid.
Laz and insulated removable roof
The longest were fiddling with the roof. I didn’t want to make it completely flat, because we made a warmed shield strictly sized, which was attached to a slightly rounded roof of stacked rails. It even turned out without a slope, but due to the sloping shape, water flows without problems. Since it was still impossible to hermetically make it, a film was placed under the slats.
Bar from a bar for alabay from a bar
We will immediately say that the dog house was built from materials left over from the construction of the bathhouse. Also, it will put next, because in appearance it should resemble the bath itself.
The basis of this dog box lay down drawing with the size of the box for alabay. But since the dog is not alabai, the sizes have become more modest. Adjustments were also made to the design: a window was made in the side wall, and a cleaning door in the back.
A doghouse for a large dog
At first they built and painted the platform – from the remnants of logs, which were scolded and churned. Then the assembly of the dog house itself began. First, in the workshop they planed, sawed and carried out the ready-made construction and installed it in place – near the bath.
The first crown was laid whole. It forms the threshold and serves as a support for the whole structure. Then cut timber according to the scheme. Considering that the work experience was already (bath built), the work proceeded quickly.
The first two crowns are folded.
Since it was supposed to make the roof "house", as in a bath next to the dog was warm, made the ceiling. A sheet of plywood was used for it. A bar was made in the bar, on which a sheet of thick plywood cut to size was laid. Then they assembled and installed roof shields.
The ceiling in the doghouse
They were not collected according to the rules – they did not make the rafter system. Since the roof is decorative, they assembled the shields, trimmed them with the remains of soft tiles (they also remained from the construction of the bath), then they were joined and sheathed the gables.
Roof did not by the rules
Then the boards sheathed gables. The gaps were covered with boards. The dog box is ready. Made your own hands for half a day.
We do not quite Alabai and not Caucasian, but also not a very small dog
Such a structure for a dog of this size will still be large. This box is designed for larger dogs. The situation can be saved only installed inside the partition, reducing the width.
Another dog house with its own hands is made of OSB, covered with professional sheet (insulation and inner lining are planned). The assembly process is captured on video.
How to make a warm dog house with your own hands
To build a dog house is easy. Most often, the owner knocks a box out of the board, cuts a hole, and the doghouse is ready. For the summer period, of course, such a house will suit a four-legged friend, but in winter it will be cold in it. Today we will look at how to make a warm dog booth, inside of which the animal will not freeze, even in severe frosts.
Calculation of dimensions dog kennels
The photo shows an example of the dimensions of the booth and manhole for different breeds of dogs. In the manufacture of dog kennel, you can use the dimensions from the table, or perform your own calculations.
The height of the kennel is determined by the growth of the dog at the withers, and additionally plus 15 cm. The reserve is needed for winter litter, and suddenly the animal will grow up. The depth of the booth is equal to the length of the lying dog with legs extended in front of it. The measurement is taken between the tips of the paws and the tail, and 15 cm is added to the result.
The calculation of the width of the house depends on its design. If the booth consists of one compartment, then its width is calculated on the same principle as the depth. The dog should be comfortable to lie even across the kennel. In the northern regions with long harsh winters it is reasonable to build a house in two compartments. The bed is settled in the second compartment from the manhole. Here the dog will sleep in the winter. The dimensions of the sleeping compartment are calculated according to the examples already given for determining the width and depth of the booth. Tambour is done in front of the sleeping compartment. Its size is chosen arbitrarily by the build of the dog. The animal must freely enter and exit the house.
For a dog it is important to properly organize a hole in a kennel. It is cut out rectangular or oval in shape, counting on the height of the withers of the animal, adding 10 cm. The width of the manhole is made 8 cm longer than the width of the dog’s chest.
We make a drawing of a winter booth with a vestibule
The design of the doghouse is simple, and it is unlikely that you need to make drawings for it. Just as an acquaintance in the photo of the presented scheme, you can see an example of a kennel with two compartments and a folding roof.
If, nevertheless, they decided to build a dog house according to a drawing, this is considered only a plus. The scheme will help more accurately determine the size and shape of the house.
A few useful tips will help to develop the drawing correctly:
- The inner space of the kennel should be enough for the dog to freely deploy and comfortable sleep. We must remember that a young puppy will grow up with time, and he will need more space.
- For the construction of a warm kennel it is better to take only boards. Wood retains heat well, is easy to handle, and is also harmless to dogs.
- In the northern regions, it is still necessary to give preference to a booth with two compartments. During the design of the construction, double walls are provided between which space is left for laying the insulation.
- Alternatively, a warm dog house can be built inside the enclosure. These decisions are resorted to owners who have acquired a big dog, which is not put on a chain.
- At the design stage of the drawing for the booth are determined with the shape of the roof. For a big dog kennel, it is better to make a lean-to opening roof. In the summer on her dog will lie. The gable roof increases the space of the kennel, so it is preferable to build it on a small house.
Drawing up a drawing taking into account all the nuances, it will turn out to provide all the little things, and a warmed dog booth will become a comfortable accommodation.
The process of making a wooden booth
So, with the preparatory issues figured out, it is time to start making a dog house:
- Any dog house starts to be made by hand with the frame assembly. For these purposes, you will need a timber section of 50×50 mm. You can take blanks thicker or thinner by 10 mm. Nothing will change significantly from this. From the cut to the size of the blanks, collect the frame of the bottom of the dog kennel. It should be a rectangular frame. For a big dog, it’s better to reinforce the frame with additional jumpers so that the bottom does not bend. The finished frame is sheathed on top of the board with a thickness of 30 mm.
- Half dog kennel ready, proceed to the walls. From the same bar from the corners of the bottom mount vertical racks. Two additional elements put on the front wall for manhole. If the dog house is designed for two compartments, then inside there will be a partition with one more manhole. Here it will have to install two more racks. On top of the rack connect with a bar. The resulting frame will be the base of the kennel roof.
- The finished frame is sheathed with a board or wooden clapboard, and the bars should remain inside the house. They are still needed when the walls are laid with insulation. At this stage, an internal partition is nailed from the board, and a manhole on two walls is cut out with an electric jigsaw at once.
- The construction of the roof of a warm house is different from the usual cold construction. Even in the case of the gable option, you will have to sacrifice the interior space by installing a ceiling inside the kennel. So, a piece of plywood is attached to the upper trim of the frame struts, just from the bottom of the frame. This will be the ceiling. On top of the plywood turned groove, edged with a bar top trim. Roofing material is laid here, then foam plastic or mineral wool, ruberoid again, and another sheet of plywood is nailed to the top of the frame. The result was a warm puffy ceiling, located between the bars of the frame top trim racks.
- It does not make sense to make a double-slope roof for a warmed dog kennel, since the inner space will not increase anyway because of the ceiling. In order to build a single-pitch roof, to the upper frame fix the rafters from the board, forming a slope to the rear wall. On top of the rafters nailed board, which is laid roofing material.
- The resulting gaps between the roof and the hull of the house close casing. So that the doghouse does not leave heat, the manhole is closed with a tarpaulin or rubber curtain. To weight it down, you can secure the load.
But while it’s too early to catch the curtain and the roof, there is still a process of wall insulation. And we will deal with this right now.
The question of how to insulate a dog house should not be a problem, as any thermal insulation material will do. Commonly used mineral wool or pieces of foam.
- It is necessary to take seriously the weatherage for the dog, and first of all, raise it from the ground. The doghouse is turned upside down. The bottom boards were nailed from the inside, so the frame from the bar remained outside. Inside the frame lay a layer of roofing material. Heater is placed on top of it, and then again the ruberoid. Now this whole layer is slaughtered. To raise the insulated bottom from the ground to the frame of the bottom of the segments of the beam section of 100×100 mm nailed legs. They can be made about 100 mm high.
- Doghouse with insulated bottom put on the legs, and then proceed to the walls. In the photo you can see that the insulation is attached to the inside of the walls. After covering the frame with a board inside the dog kennel, there were bars that make up the cells. This is where investing insulation is put in the same way as it was done on the bottom. The inner lining can be made of plywood or OSB.
Now you can close the curtain hole, put the roof and paint the booth with a dull oil paint or open it with varnish.
Electric heating doghouse
Of course, it is good to insulate a dog house for the winter. However, this may not always be enough. To heat the dog’s house when the temperature drops below -30 o C outside, electric heaters are required.
Electrical panels for heating booths
Panel heaters are well suited for heating dogs for dogs. The maximum heating temperature of the device is 50 o C. The dog will not burn the walls of the panel, so it can not close the wooden grille. The thickness of the heater is about 20 mm. The panels produce two sizes: 590×590 mm and 520×960 mm. Heaters work silently.
An excellent heated booth will work if you put an infrared film in the walls under the inner lining. It is usually used in the arrangement of electric floor heating. With the onset of severe frosts, it is enough to apply electricity to the film heater, and it will heat the walls of the booth to 60 o C. The dog will be comfortable with any frosts, and the electricity consumption will be minimal.
If a modern heated booth is too expensive for you, an alternative is offered. The length of the doghouse cut off a piece of asbestos-cement pipe. A lampshade is cut out of a tin can. The size of the jar is selected so that it freely went inside the pipe. Tin lamp shade attached to the cartridge with a 40 watt light bulb. The finished heater is inserted into the pipe, the wire is removed from the booth, and through the machine is connected to the network. The entire structure and cable must be protected so that the dog does not crush them.
The video tells about the manufacture of a homemade heater for a dog:
So, the warmed dog house is completed. It now remains to install it in its place, to equip the site and run the dog.
Dog booth – how to make your own hands? Step by step instructions with photos and videos!
Almost everyone in childhood wanted to have a dog, but to keep a dog in apartments is not very convenient.
It is much better to start a pet in a country house, where you can have not only a small, but also a large dog.
A dog in a country house will play the role of not only a friend, but also a watchdog, and the best care for her will be to build a booth for him with his own hands.
What to look for when choosing a place.
The place of the dog kennel has a careful approach to the choice:
- watch the wind, do not put a kennel so that the wind blows constantly into it
- choose a lighter place for him, but not so bright either, so that in the summer heat the dog could take refuge there
- put a dog house on an elevated place, otherwise in the spring the dog will spend the night on wet ground
- leave the booth not far from the entrance to the house
- calculate so that the dog from his kennel saw the front door to the courtyard, so he can better guard the neighborhood
Phased construction of a pet booth
It should be noted that during the construction of the booth there is no need to make it winter, as the house itself will consist of a vestibule – where it is enough and comfortable for a dog in winter, as well as a sleeping place.
Required materials for construction
Coniferous wood is used for construction, since air circulates better through it, which means that the dog will have the necessary temperature for the dog. Only before starting work it is necessary to sand it, otherwise the pet may get hurt or make a splinter.
During construction, you will most likely need tools such as sand, nails, wall paneling, plywood, tiles, polyethylene and bars, boards, slats, foam plastic or cotton wool.
From the inside of the kennel, you shouldn’t handle anything, as the dog has an excellent and sensitive scent, and various smells can be irritants for him.
The size of the kennel
Sizes must be selected based on the height of the dog. In her house, standing, without raising her head, she should fit well, and if in a lying position, the dog should fit well in a kennel with a fully raised head.
The width should be such that the dog, lying sideways, legs fully fit in the kennel in the extended position.
The height of the hole in the kennel must be less than five centimeters in height.
The assembly process itself
If you already have everything at hand, then building a house for your pet will not be difficult.
Assembling the bottom and frame, use the bars and planks. Boards need to be assembled close to each other, so as not to blow and not let the wind through. As a rule, bars are fastened at the corners, because the whole structure will be fastened on them.
As for the walls, then it is sheathed with clapboard, as it will serve more than its own similar building materials. They need to be fastened with carnations, on the tip of which there are caps, since it is safe for the dog.
Plywood is used as a ceiling, later it is necessary to warm it with wool or foam. After the work done, put another layer of plywood on top. If after plywood, nothing lays down, then all tiled.
The passage, as a rule, it is round, is covered with a curtain. This is so that the wind gets into the kennel minimally.
How to care for a dog kennel
In the kennel it is necessary to carry out constant cleaning about once a month. To disinfect the kennel in the summer is boring almost every month, and in the winter and in the cold time, this can be desired once in two three months, and this will be more than enough.
If you treat with any solution, then do not let the dog come in until the smell completely leaves the doghouse.
Dog box with their own hands: drawings, step by step instructions with photo examples
Building a dog house doesn’t take half a day to do it yourself. The materials for the booth are simple and convenient to use. The four-legged guard, as well as a full-fledged member of the family, needs a well-equipped home. Skillfully selected materials, unusual design of the kennel, will decorate any site.
Drawing of the doghouse
It is reasonable to choose a booth with a rectangle at the base and a flat lean-to roof. You should not build partitions inside, complicate the design. Dogs do not need rooms, they need comfort and enough space to lie down as they feel comfortable.
Traditionally, the roof is made folding or removable, so the owner gets the opportunity to perform aseptic processing and cleaning the booth, without rearranging and turning it over.
The size of the dog’s dwelling should be strictly proportional to the parameters of the animal. The width, height and other characteristics of the booth are calculated by the following formulas:
- Height: must be 5 cm greater than the height of the animal. (Width = height);
- Depth: animal length 5 cm;
- Exit height: 5 cm height of the animal at the withers;
- Width of an exit: more than width of a breast is 5 cm.
On a millimeter or ordinary paper, they carry out a drawing of a dog box, in which they put all the necessary measurements. Now it’s time to choose materials. The best solution would be to use coniferous wood – this building material is cheap, practical, and even a beginner can easily work with it.
List of building materials. Tools
It is better to prepare raw materials in advance. From the tools we need screws or nails, a puncher, hinges, a stapler. Dry timber 10×5 and 10×10 cm, edged board 2.5 cm, eurolining, sheet chipboard, foam plastic, roofing material, asphalt, disinfecting impregnation: this is an approximate list of building materials.
For best results, you can make your list by specifying the exact number of each of the components. However, remember that any raw material is taken with a margin.
Before work it is important to take care of the animal. To clean the boards in order to avoid splinters on the paws, and to carry out the impregnation only after the construction is completed, as unpleasant smells frighten off the animals, and the dog may not recognize its home.
The four-legged friend will appreciate the vast area on top of his house, where he can bask in the sun. For this, it is convenient to build lean-to roofs, which, moreover, should be easily removed when it is necessary to clean up the booth. It is necessary to take care of the dog’s heat already at this stage of design. The entrance to the house is placed in a corner on the side, which is obviously wider, since with this arrangement the wind does not blow inwards. The dog should be able to sleep in a place protected from the cold.
Stage 1. Assembling the bottom frame
From the bars of 4×4 cm fold a rectangular frame, the sides of which will be the length and width of the booth. Do it on a flat surface. Strengthen screws. The frames of houses for dogs of large breeds suggest the presence of 1-2 additional partitions. The stage is finished by covering the frame with boards.
Stage 2. Floor insulation
The resulting structure is laid in bars upwards. Glassite is attached with a stapler inside, polystyrene is placed on it between the bars. The last layer is another sheet of glassine, laid on top of the insulation. The thickness of the insulating material is determined by the height of the bar. After these steps, the floor is slapped with boards, on which the dog will walk.
Stage 3. Construction of the kennel frame
We will need 4 bearing bars. To do this, use timber 10x10cm. Of these, 2 are equal to the height of the kennel, and the remaining 2 are 8–11 cm longer than the first. These will be corner bars, so they are set in the appropriate positions on the floor frame. On the one hand, they place long, and on the other hand, shorter bars so that a roof slope is formed in the future. With this design, additional bars will be needed in the center of each of the walls and from the sides of the exit.
Stage 4. Inner and outer wall cladding
Apply lining to a covering of an external surface of the box. Warming from the inside is made on the same principle as in stage 2. Only a plywood sheet or similar building material is attached to the top layer of glassine. Great care in lining should be paid so that there are no protruding nail caps to avoid wounds and injuries to the pet.
Stage 5. Shed roof
The first step is to build a frame of 4×4 cm bars, impose a sheet of OSB on it. Then put the foam, close the film, perform the fixation. In order to protect the walls of the booth from the rain and form a kind of visor over the exit, take a plywood sheet of larger size (approximately 15-20cm). You can use boards. Fix the design on the resulting frame. The roof is almost ready. Place the frame on the booth, using loops, perform fasteners. From above cover a surface with a waterproof material, often use roofing material.
Stage 6. Exterior and interior
Outside, the surface is treated by impregnation. Why it is not necessary to do it from the inside, as mentioned above. At the bottom reinforced roofing material, bend its edges a bit on the wall. Then fix 2 bars, covering them with a primer mixture. The final step is to execute the exit design.
Final stage 7. Choosing a place for the booth
When installing the booths choose the territory from which the site is clearly visible. Your security guard should keep a close eye on everything that happens. The place should be flat, bright, better under a natural or artificial canopy. Choose a plot near your own home.
Many owners of decorative dogs wonder: how to make a box for a small-sized dog. It is inappropriate to make a house for dogs of large breeds in such a design, since cleaning becomes almost impossible, therefore this option is suitable for small breeds.
Stage 1. Assembling the bottom frame and frame
They take 4 bars for the frame, in the corners they drive 4 more bars along the height of our booth. Finish the frame by connecting the vertical columns on top with four more bars. Reinforce the supporting structure auxiliary commissures.
Stage 2. Roof construction
The gable roof assumes the presence of such a supporting system as rafters. To better understand the complex design, be sure to look at the photo of the dog booth at this stage of construction. Combining two bars 5×5 cm at an angle of 40 °, we get the first truss foot. One leg is attached from one end of the booth, the other, built according to the same principle, from the other. Connect the two gables with a ridge girder (the bar should protrude 200 mm on one side).
Stage 3. Plating
Similarly, a booth with a gable roof cladding is carried out clapboard, the bottom – roofing material. Use parallel bars as supports, if necessary.
Stage 4. Thermal insulation
Polystyrene is tightly laid on the first layer of glassine. Cover it with a second layer of glassine. The walls and floor of the house are upholstered with plywood or chipboard.
Stage 5. Roofing
To perform these works, the roof must be removed. Inside, traditionally upholstered with plywood, turned the opposite side, glassine is fastened over the plywood. Perform thermal insulation of the roof in a familiar pattern. Make out the ridge of the roof, drill holes in the gables for nails. Now the roof is convenient and quickly put back and removed for cleaning.
Warm comfortable booth with a vestibule
The design of such a house is represented by two components: the dwelling of the dog itself and the vestibule – the part intended for isolation from the wind. The kennel looks very decorative, and the dog has the ability to shelter from the rain not only in its sleeping place, but also outside.
The main difference between the construction of a booth with a vestibule from that of the usual in the presence of a special partition between the vestibule and the kennel itself. Bars 4×4 cm folded into a frame, the size of which corresponds to the internal height and width. A piece of plywood is placed on the frame, insulated, covered with a second plywood sheet. It is also possible to make a construction from two slats, which makes it easy to remove the partition.
How to build a dog house with your own hands?
Each barking mustache, which is not contained in the apartment, but in street conditions, requires a small house for a comfortable life – a dog booth. In an effort to provide the pet with the most comfortable housing, the owners are not limited to the construction of the usual booth of boards. Therefore, today, no one is surprised by the open-air cages with images of family emblems, cabins with double-glazed windows and terraces.
The dog house can be decorated as you like. But the four-legged friend will not feel comfortable if the booth is installed in the wrong place. The following recommendations will help to avoid errors.
Where to place the booth?
In order for the pet’s housing not to be in a puddle after a heavy rain, it must be installed on an elevated place. The best option – a shady area with a flat surface of the soil. It is advisable to place the booth near a large building, on the leeward side: in this case it will not be blown out during bad weather. A good bush protection can also be a thick shrub.
Dog house should not be adjacent to the garage. In addition, do not install a shed under the roof, from which ice and snow can fall in winter.
Being in the kennel or near it, the dog should be able to observe the door of the house and the main entrance to the yard. For watchdogs suitable enclosure with a house, installed at some distance from the people.
We build a dog house with our own hands – photo instructions
Using the scheme provided, you can build a convenient and reliable doghouse for your dog in just a few hours. And any special materials for this do not have to buy.
One of the most important aspects of building a booth is the selection of the size of a dog house. After all, you want your pet to feel as comfortable as possible? Therefore, it is necessary to start making a dog house with the definition of its shape and size.
I want to say at once – if you are not a fan of non-original designs, forget about the construction of complex structures. This will not only take your time, but will also prevent the dog from freely settling in the new house.
Ideal option – a rectangular doghouse. It is desirable to make the entrance from the side, make the roof sloping. An example of an optimal kennel look at the photo.
Tip! Make the roof removable. Subsequently, this will facilitate your manipulation of cleaning the dog house.
Drawing boxes for dogs do, given the size of the animal. Measure the height of the pet, its length. Also consider the volume of the chest of the dog. Look at the picture for the optimal ratio of the size of the booths regarding the breed of dog.
One of the basic rules for drawing up a drawing is that a dog box is called “plus five.” The essence of the rule is as follows – when calculating the kennel frame parameter, add width, height, depth to 5 cm to the indicators.
With small, but important nuances of building a dog’s house sorted out. Now it’s time to choose the material. The most popular materials for dog booths are different wood species. This material has many advantages:
- environmental friendliness;
- convenience in work;
- low cost
Breed better take coniferous.
So that the process does not take long, prepare materials and tools for the doghouse in advance. You will need the following:
- door hinges;
- edged board;
- metal corners;
- antiseptic impregnation;
- dry timber 40×40, 100×100, 100×50 mm.
Do not forget to sand the wooden parts, otherwise the dog will throw up its paw. Regarding additional wood treatment with antiseptic – it is better not to rush. Handle the booth when it is ready and only outside, because the pungent smell can scare the animal away from the newly appeared home.
Build a dog house
As already mentioned, the roof of the kennel is better to do a shed, because most of the dogs love to lie on the roof of their house. If you plan to keep the dog in the booth all the time, already at the assembly stage, take care to carefully insulate the kennel.
Well, let’s start building a kennel! First of all we prepare the bottom frame. To do this, we cut the 40×40 timber to the size calculated in the drawing. We connect the parts of the timber using metal corners. See how it looks in the photo.
Tip! If you build a large dog shed, the frame can be reinforced with additional crossbeams from a bar. Sheathe the finished frame on one side.
After that, put the frame so that the bars were on top, as in the photo.
Lining the inner surface of the frame with glassine. For fixing, you can use a stapler. Then cut to size the foam and insert it between the bars. The height of the insulation should be identical to the height of the bars. Put another layer of glassine on the foam and sheathe. All – clean floor ready.
The third stage – collect the frame. Take a bar 100×100 mm and make four segments. Two will be equal to the height of the kennel, two must be made longer by 10 cm. Fasten these bars to the bottom corners with nails. Long bars will go to the front, short to the back.
This is the basis of the doghouse. After that cut pieces of a bar by the size for the top basis. You can also fill a couple of vertical bars on the sides. As well as when mounting the frame, use metal corners for fixing wooden parts. Look at the photo, what about the frame you should have.
After that, warm and sheathe the finished structure.
First, sheathe the outer part with clapboard. Then warm the walls according to the method similar to the bottom insulation: asphalt, then foam, then asphalt, then plywood. Consider the size of the nails when attaching the skin. The nails must not be too large, otherwise the dog may get hurt about the protruding tip of the nail. On the photo wall booth, prepared for insulation.
Prepare the finished booth with antiseptic impregnation, dry. After that, nail the roofing material around the perimeter to the bottom of the kennel, and nail the bars treated with impregnation onto it.
It should turn out approximately as in the picture.
In principle, the dog box is ready. If you wish, you can decorate the ends of the battens and manholes, lay the tiles on top. In general, do the cosmetic component.
But even if you leave everything as it is, the dog will in any case be grateful for a comfortable and warm booth in which you can hide from the heat and cold.

Construction of the booth: nuances and recommendations
What should I look for when building a cozy kennel for your favorite mustache?
Thinking through the design of the dog house, it is best to focus on prefabricated and collapsible models: if necessary, the booth will be easy to understand. A kennel constructed in this way can not only be transferred to another site, but can also be quickly dismantled and assembled by cleaning and disinfecting. Cleaning in the pet’s house should be done regularly.
Individual words deserves the choice of material. Pine and larch will be the best wood species for this purpose. The booth from pine boards can serve 10 – 13 years. This means that the dog will be able to dwell in it until old age. Larch is a more expensive material that benefits pine in terms of durability. The choice of wood owners decide, based on financial opportunities.
For the installation of the roof, the same solutions are applied as for the home roofing. In the construction of a doghouse is not recommended to use natural tiles.
The floor in the pet’s house cannot be stone or concrete: it is cold materials, a dog in such conditions runs the risk of arthritis. Ideally, the floor in the kennel is made of dry wooden planks. An important condition: the elements that make up the floor must be precisely adjusted so that gaps do not appear. Otherwise, cracks in the floor can cause injury to the animal. If the floor covering is slightly inclined towards the exit, this will make the cleaning procedure easier.
To the space inside the house is not blown by all the winds, connections, joints and corners must be made without cracks. The dog box will become warmer if it is mounted from double walls, the gaps between which are filled with chips or other insulating material. However, it is possible that the insulation will become a haven for parasites. This booth should be disinfected often. The entrance to the kennel can be hung with a piece of coarse and dense fabric.
To prevent wood from rotting due to high humidity, it is necessary to consider a system for draining rainwater from the structure. In a wet and rotting booth, a dog can easily get sick. To treat wood against moisture in this case is impossible: it is not recommended by veterinarians.
