How To Connect A Bosch Gas Water Heater

How to turn on the gas water heater BOSCH?

Let us consider how to light a bosch gas water heater using the example of models of gas flowing water heaters Bosch WR10.B, WR13.B, WR15.B manufactured in Germany, for the market, Ukraine, Belarus. These models differ in the amount of heated water.

Bosch WR10.B, WR13.B, WR15.B

Before starting, check that the gas and water valves are open, that two R-type batteries of 1.5 V are inserted. These heater models are equipped with an electric ignition, as indicated by the B index at the end of the name. Electric ignition occurs with batteries.

To turn on the device, you need to press the power button on the front panel of the device, the speaker is ready for work, is in standby mode. In order for the heated water to flow, you just need to open the tap. At this point, the pilot flame ignites and after four seconds the main flame is ignited, thus the pilot flame extinguishes after approximately twenty seconds.

These devices do not have a constantly burning wick, which is economical since there is no constant gas flow. During a long break in operation, air can accumulate in the gas system, which will interfere with the correct operation of the igniter and, as a result, the main burner cannot ignite.

To eliminate this problem, you need to open and close the hot water tap several times. Water heating is regulated by reducing its flow, by turning the valve clockwise it decreases, counterclockwise, respectively, on the contrary, the flow increases and the temperature decreases. At low water temperatures, gas consumption is reduced and less scale is formed in the heat exchanger.

In addition to the startup procedure, you can also find out about the column setup:

The difference between these models lies in the amount of heated water per minute. A device equipped with a piezo ignition is designated by the letter P at the end of the name. It has the ability to regulate two parameters, water and combustion power. To turn on the column, you must move the slider to the ignition position, drown it.

Press the piezo ignition button several times until a flame appears on the ignition burner. Wait ten seconds, release the slider and move it to the desired power position. Moving the slider to the right increases the power and decreases it to the left. The column is in standby mode all the time, if you need to get hot water, you just need to open the valve with hot water.

When you need to turn off, move the slider to the left until it stops. After a couple of seconds, the pilot flame will go out. Close the gas valve and water taps.

See below for instructions on how to enable:

Therm 4000 S WTD 12/15/18 AM E23 / 31.

Before starting, you must make sure that, on the plate installed by the manufacturer on the device, the gas marking corresponds to the gas connected to the device. The device has the ability to connect a remote control, which completely duplicates the display on the speaker.

Open the gas cock and water valves. Connect the device to the mains.

The water temperature set by the manufacturer is 42 degrees, this is the optimal temperature.

To turn on the device, you just need to press the turn on button and open the tap with hot water. To adjust the temperature, press the or button. And choose the temperature you need. Until your chosen temperature is reached, the display will flash.

If it does not reach this value within thirty seconds, the water tap icon is displayed on the monitor, which indicates the need to increase or decrease the water consumption. If you press button P, the programmed constant temperature of 42 degrees will appear. Setting the minimum temperature reduces energy consumption and makes it possible to reduce limescale build-up in the heat exchanger.

But if you know how to turn on the column, but are faced with malfunctions (the flame goes out, does not ignite), then read this article, which describes the causes and methods of their elimination.

What contaminates the Bosch gas water heater?

The reasons for the contamination of the instantaneous water heater are associated with its functions and principle of operation:

  • Flowing water supply. The column heats the stream of water flowing through its heat exchanger, which brings along mineral inclusions. As a result, clogging deposits settle on the walls of the heat exchanger and the pipes of the device and gradually increase.
  • Gas burner burning. Inadequate combustion of gas (see Reasons below) forms carbon deposits and soot. The latter clogs the fins of the heat exchanger and the chimney, further impairing the combustion of gas fuel and slowing down the heating of water.
  • Poor tap water quality. Due to the hardness of tap water, during its heating, salts are released from the composition, which are deposited in the form of scale inside the pipes and the heat exchanger. The thicker the scale layer, the narrower the pipe lumen and the worse it passes water.

In addition to the salts of magnesium and calcium dissolved in water, it contains mechanical impurities from rusting pipes. They also participate in the gradual overgrowing of the pipe channel in the heat exchanger together with scale.

As for soot, its active formation is facilitated by increased pressure on the burner, weak chimney draft (low height, cracks, lack of thermal insulation, etc.), lack of supply air (PVC windows are sealed, but there is no supply valve).

Soot deposition is also facilitated by the use of forced draft in a room with a working water heater (causes a lack of oxygen), dustiness of the room (dust enters the burner, due to which full combustion of gas does not occur).

Since the formation of scale is more intense when the water is heated above 60 ° C, some owners of German water heaters set a low temperature for heating the burner. However, as a result of this, there is a gradual overgrowth of the working cavities of the heat exchanger with a greenish coating from condensate.

As a result, the flue gas discharge is impaired, which contributes to the accelerated formation of soot. A heat exchanger clogged with soot heats water very badly soot is a good heat insulator.

How to clean a gas water heater “Bosch” DIY: Care Guide Valuable Tips

Poor water heater performance interferes with normal life, right? Water barely flows or heats up for a long time, the burner smolders a little or soot pours in. It is necessary to fix it somehow, look for a master, negotiate and terms. Why spend money if you can easily clean the heater yourself?

We will tell you how to clean a Bosch gas water heater with your own hands without contacting gas workers. For a complete disassembly and cleaning of the device, a household tool kit is sufficient. You will learn everything about dismantling the working blocks of the column, the rules for cleaning its burner, heat exchanger and chimney from our article.

Cleaning the heat exchanger of the Bosch gas water heater

If, after removing the casing of the water heater and inspecting the heat exchanger, soot contamination is found, it will need to be dismantled and completely flushed. It is necessary to clean the smoked heat exchanger precisely by removing it from the gas column.

The first step is to close the cut-off taps for the water and gas supply of the heating column. If you intend to completely remove the device and dismantle the heat exchanger, putting the column on the table (it will be more convenient), disconnect the gas supply hose, water supply inlet and outlet, then remove the device from the mounts.

However, there is no need to remove the entire water heater; you can also remove the radiator of the heat exchange module at the place of installation of the device. Let’s consider this maintenance option in detail.

Cleaning the heat exchanger and main burner

For cleaning and flushing, the heat exchange radiator must be placed in a bath or other suitable container. In order not to scratch the bottom and walls of the bathroom bowl, you should first lay a cloth in it.

Using conventional detergents, hot water and a long-bristled brush, rinse off soot from the inside and outside of the unit. Dry it before re-installing it into the column.

If the burner is soiled with soot, it must be disassembled and cleaned. Fasteners of burner sections (Venturi tubes) are bolted, they are easy to unscrew.

Professional cleaning of a dusty burner is carried out with compressed air, and at home with a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner. For severe contamination, wash with soapy water and wipe with a lint-free cloth, then dry and reassemble the burner.

How to remove the cover of a Bosch water heater?

The decorative and protective casing of the column is easy to remove:

  • It is necessary to detach the round adjustment knobs by pulling them towards you;
  • Move the rectangular gas adjustment knob to the body cavity (ignition position). Note that not every Bosch water heater model has such a handle;
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the two self-tapping screws securing the casing to the speaker frame. They are located below, on the sides of the device.

It remains with both hands to gently push the lower part of the water heater casing towards you. Then lift up, remove completely and set aside. Now you can visually assess the contamination of the device, determine the scale of cleaning work.

Dismantling the water heater heat exchanger

Required tools flat (minus), Phillips (plus) screwdrivers and pliers.

Attention: with an outwardly large size, the heat exchanger is hollow inside and lightweight. When dismantling, handle it carefully, otherwise you will remember the shell!

The procedure for removing the heat exchanger using the example of Bosch WR13-2B:

  • Closing the cold water shut-off valve on the supply to the water heater;
  • Removing the column cover. Remove the adjusting knobs by pulling towards you, unscrew the two self-tapping screws on the sides at the bottom of the case, push the lower part of the casing towards you, lift and remove from the upper hooks;
  • Pulling out the bracket securing the tube to the water distribution unit. Pry off the bracket with a screwdriver, remove with platypuses, slide the tube to the right. Before removing the retaining clip, place a wide container under the drain of about a liter of water from the heat exchanger;
  • Removing the terminals of the sensors from the heat exchange tank and housing. Located on the left side of the device, wires go to them;
  • Pulling out the bracket that fixes the water supply pipe at the inlet to the heat exchanger (located on the right under it). The principle is the same to pry with a screwdriver, gently pull out with pliers, then remove the tube completely;
  • Removing the protective screen in front of the ignition group by unscrewing two self-tapping screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Then you need to remove the ignition group from the nest, remove it;
  • Pulling the bracket out of the connecting hose at the outlet from the heat exchanger (with a screwdriver and platypus), disconnecting the hose. Do not forget to drain the water first by opening the tap on the sink;
  • Unscrewing the two screws securing the main burner on the sides;
  • Unscrewing two screws securing the gas manifold under the burner (located under it, in the center);
  • Removing the guide strip holding the heat exchanger from above. There are two side screws for a Phillips screwdriver. Unscrew and remove the bar.

It remains only to remove the heat exchanger with the burner. Place the palms of your hands under the burner on its sides and firmly, not without extra effort, press the shell of the heat exchange radiator with your thumbs. Lift them up, then slide the top of the heat exchanger towards you and remove both modules out.

Is it possible to turn on cold water when the column is on

Many users are lazy, do not know how or do not want to set comfortable settings on their column, and they regulate the water temperature by adding cold water to it. You can’t do this, that’s why:

  • This is prohibited in the user manual;
  • When mixing water, limescale appears on the heat exchanger, which spoils it.

How to light a gas water heater

After all diagnostic procedures, the column can be put into operation.

How to turn on the gas water heater correctly

A gas water heater in many homes is the only way to get hot water. Despite the obvious simplicity of the design, some users have questions about how to properly turn on and operate the gas water heater. Consider the nuances of the safe use of the unit.

Nuances of operation

Consider frequently asked questions when using gas water heaters.

Brief acquaintance with the device

One of the most common myths that scares off potential buyers is that it is dangerous to use such equipment. However, this bias is valid when using older models. Today, the units are improved and safe, many of them (for example, proposals from Bosch) are equipped with automatic protection, in which in an emergency the fuel supply is cut off.

To know the rules of use, you should draw up a representation of its internal structure. Any firm’s models include all of the following:

  • Gas equipment unit;
  • Water connection unit;
  • Exhaust connection system;
  • Sensors.

The body itself resembles in appearance a cabinet that is connected to a water supply and a gas pipeline. Heating elements are located in its lower part and are represented by the main burner and igniter.

The device operates according to the following principle:

  • Cold water under pressure enters the heat exchanger, this will automatically open the fuel valve;
  • The ignition device is ignited;
  • The gas will go to the main burner, where it is ignited from the igniter;
  • Heat will heat up the water;
  • The products from combustion are removed through the chimney and exhaust system.

Why does the gas water heater turn itself on or does not turn off

Spontaneous activation of the column can occur if there is a leak in the hot water system behind the column. Accordingly, solving the problem with the water supply also eliminates the problem with the column.

Much more often this situation arises: the column continues to work even when the tap is closed. This happens due to the incorrect operation of the diaphragm (it loses its elasticity), which is installed in the water regulator. After the user turns off the hot water, it cannot take the desired position, for some time presses on the gas supply sensor. In this case, only replacing the worn part will help.

If the membrane loses elasticity, the column may not shut off

Electrolux connection

The set of heaters Electrolux also does not differ in variety and consists of dowels, hooks, rubber gaskets, all in two pieces.

The unit is installed taking into account a free space of at least 5 cm from the side, 15 cm from the top, from the bottom, 30 cm from the front panel.Before attaching the water heater to the wall, you need to remove the front panel, gas supply control knob, water temperature regulator.

Unscrew the screw securing the front of the cover, remove the cover. Mark fixing points on the wall, drill holes, hammer in dowels, insert hooks, hang the column.

Connect the chimney with the heater branch pipe (its diameter depends on the model, it is 110mm and 125mm) with a corrugated or galvanized pipe.

Connect the gas line with a bellows hose or TuboFlex PVC hose to the heater connection. Which pipe would be better to do this when connecting the bellows with the gas pipeline, it is necessary to supply a dielectric; when using the PVC TuboFlex piping, the installation of a dielectric is not required, but it is more expensive. The choice is yours.

Almost all Electrolux models (how to use them correctly, read this article) are designed so that the gas connection of the unit is located between the cold water inlet and the hot water outlet, therefore, the use of rigid connections when docked with a water supply system is difficult, installation is performed with flexible connections. Install a magnetic salt filter at the outlet of the water main to extend the life of the water heater.

At the end of the above steps, you need to check the tightness of all connections, water by opening the taps as much as possible, gas by soaping. Eliminate the leak, if any.

Insert batteries, make adjustments, it should be noted that all modifications of Electrolux have a very sensitive tuning step, so this must be done carefully.

Installation of the Astra water heater

The Astra heater is completed with two hooks and handles. For fixing on the wall at the pre-marked places, drive in the dowels, fix the hooks, hang the column vertically. The wall must be made of non-combustible materials.

Next, disconnect the display connectors, disconnect the indicator on the front panel by removing the latch from the front side of the device, remove the front, side panels.

Connect to the gas pipeline using a tee that cuts into the pipeline, a tap is screwed to it. Drill holes in the wall along the path of the pipe, fix the clips there. Connect to the unit by placing it in clips. It is allowed to use a bellows hose as a gas hose, and there is no need to fix it to the wall. Be sure to install a tap in front of the device that turns off the device after the end of work.

Then attach the supply and discharge pipes of the water supply to the nozzles of the device. Place a mechanical filter and a shut-off valve on the flow. Check fasteners for tightness. When connecting, pipes with a diameter ½ inch. During installation, hold the device’s union with a second key. The manufacturer recommends installing an anti-scale device to extend the durability of work if very hard water is used.

Check the draft of the chimney, connect the branch pipe of the device to it, make sure that the pipe fits snugly to them, otherwise there will be carbon monoxide leakage. The length of the vertical part must be at least half a meter.

Check pipe connections. Water pipes are checked by opening the cold water shut-off valve, gas soaping. If a leak is found, fix it by tightening the nuts.

Insert the batteries into the compartment observing the polarity, start, adjust. Before the first start-up, the device must be at room temperature for at least an hour. Then install panels, LED indicator, handles blocks.

If desired, instead of powering from batteries, you can reconnect to a 220 volt electrical network. To do this, you must purchase a power supply and connect it to the battery terminals, observing the polarity.

The column can operate on liquefied gas, i.E. From a gas cylinder, nozzles for connecting it are purchased separately.

How to connect a Bosch gas wall-mounted water heater

The Bosch water heater system consists of a casing, burner, gas unit, water fittings, heat exchanger and piezo ignition.

It is completed with fastening material, connection parts, a set of nozzles for installation from a gas cylinder, two batteries. The device provides a constant flow of water with pressure drops in the water supply system, adjustment of the required power, there are sensors for controlling traction, flame, heating temperature.

First, you should fix the column to the wall. To do this, the points of the future fastener are marked, holes are drilled, dowels are hammered, hooks are screwed in (included), the device is vertically hung on them. In this case, it is important to ensure that the water heater does not lean on the pipes, the free space around it should be at least 100 mm.

Then the unit branch pipe (diameter 112.5 mm-132.5 mm, depending on the modification) is connected to the chimney with a galvanized pipe with a thickness of at least 1 mm, with a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the branch pipe.

The inlet of the device is connected to cold water. A coaxial hose, which comes with the unit, is connected to the outlet. The coaxial hose stabilizes the mechanical stresses that arise from thermal expansion. A non-return valve must be connected to avoid malfunctions due to pressure differences. After that, check the tightness by opening the tap. If a leak is found, carefully press on the fixing nuts.

When connecting the gas supply, only the manufacturer’s gas hose must be used. Then you need to check the tightness of the joints by making a soapy solution and smearing the joints. If bubbles appear, then there is a leak and can be repaired by gently tightening the nuts. After connection, you need to adjust the gas pressure at minimum, maximum power (some masters check only at maximum), control traction.

To save money, instead of igniting from batteries, you can connect to a 220 volt electrical network through a power supply. Some consumers use a regular phone adapter. The voltage of the power supply should not exceed 3-3.6 V, if it is higher, you should select the appropriate resistance to absorb the excess voltage. The Bosch line includes models with factory connection from the Bosch electrical network WTD 24 AME, WTD 27 AME.

How To Connect A Bosch Gas Water Heater

Installation of a water heater Ariston

The column is completed with parts for connecting to gas: one valve, one bent sleeve for soldering, union nut, rubber gasket, two galvanic cells LR20 1.5 V, one working, the other reserve, nozzles for connecting to liquefied gas.

The peculiarity of the fasteners is the presence of a strip, which is drilled at two points, is attached to the wall. Then you should put the sealing tube on the two supporting lugs of the plate. Then, pulling it towards you, pull out the gas regulator handle, unscrew the casing fasteners, and remove it. Place the upper holes of the frame on the support lugs of the mounting plate. In this case, it is necessary to comply with the manufacturer’s requirements.Free space around the unit of at least 10 cm.

The appliance can be connected to a natural draft chimney. The flue pipe is inserted into the outlet of the unit. The manufacturer advises to provide a container for draining the condensate formed on the chimney so that it does not get inside the column.

For connection to the water supply, flexible hoses are used, which are completed with gaskets. To increase the service life, you need to install two salt and magnetic filters.

When connecting the gas line, a pressure regulator must be used. The length of the pipeline between the regulator and the water heater should not exceed two meters. If liquefied gas is used, use the supplied nozzles. The manufacturer guarantees the correct operation of the device only when using two cylinders connected in parallel.

After making all the connections, it is necessary to check the tightness of the joints, water by opening taps, gas foam solution. Tighten fasteners carefully if necessary. Put on the casing, install the handles, make the first start. (Read how to use the Ariston gas column in this article.)

Can Ariston be connected to a 220 volt network? This can be done by connecting a 3-3.6 volt power supply to the terminals of the battery compartment or using a phone adapter.
