How to adjust
In order to start plowing, it is necessary to attach the plow to the tiller, because all these parts are disassembled. To connect all this, you need 22×24, 17×19, 17×14 or 22×19 keys. When all the parts are ready, you will need to install the adjusting screw first. To do this, remove it from the hitch. It is this detail that allows you to set up the plow as conveniently as possible and adjust it depending on what kind of manipulations you are going to make. After you have removed the adjusting screw from the hitch, the plow adjustment continues by connecting it to the hitch. You will see that there are several holes on the hitch, which are also on the plow.
In order for the plow adjustment to be of high quality, it will be necessary to connect the hitch holes with the hole in the plow and, as a result, fix it with an adjusting screw.
Like any other technique, the tiller’s plow will need to be prepared in advance for the plowing process. First you need to remove one of the tiller’s transport wheels. To do this, you remove not only the wheel itself, but also the hub. Next, take a special axis. It necessarily comes complete with a tiller in order to secure the soil hooks. This part is carefully fastened in place of the hub with the existing parts. The next stage is associated with joining the lug to this axis. In the process of installing it, you need to pay attention to what kind of land is on your site. For example, if it is non-clayey, lightweight, then you will need to have a herringbone grouser in the direction of travel. If the soil is heavy, then you need to set the lug in the other direction.
This is necessary in order to ensure the best possible grip of the wheel to the ground. Once everything is in the right position, the lug can be strengthened. This is done before adjusting the plow. This must be done in the second hole on the axis. In order to carry out this procedure for starting the tuning of the tiller plow, it was convenient, it is necessary in advance to select a block or other device of such a height that will raise both tiller wheels. As soon as the manipulations with the first wheel are completed, you can move on to the second, and do the same for it. Results of work
If you are using a completely new tool and a new hitch, you will need a hammer to adjust the plow on the tiller, with which you can connect these parts conveniently and without causing any inconvenience. When connecting the hitch, the nut will not need to be tightened tightly. it is enough just to bait it. This is to ensure that the hitch runs freely and does not lock in a particular position too firmly. Next, you need to proceed to the installation of the adjusting screw. It is installed with the first fastener in the hole that remains on the hitch, and with the second in the upper hole on the plow. If the device is adjusted correctly, the plowing will be maximized.
As in the previous step, the nuts here also do not need to be fastened too tight. After that, the hitch with the tiller is connected, and the attachment remains strong enough to allow you to plow the ground exactly as far as you specified for your plow. It remains to connect it to the tiller itself. So the plow adjustment is complete.
Adjusting the plow on the tiller
To work on different types of soil, the unit must be configured differently. But the main adjustment takes place according to several criteria:
- setting the plowing depth;
- adjustment of the angle of attack;
- cutting the first furrow.
Plowing depth. The further process of growing crops depends on the setting of the plowing depth. If you set up insufficient depth, the roots of harmful plants will remain under the soil, and if the depth is too deep, then the fertile soil will mix, and the plants will not receive the necessary nutrients.
Attack angle. Adjustment takes place using a field board. The performance of the unit depends on the angle of attack: if the angle of attack is greater than necessary, then the device will get stuck in the ground, and the tiller will skid; and if the angle of attack is insufficient, the plow will not remove the required layer of soil.
First furrow. After all the adjustments have been made, the first furrow must be plowed. At this stage, it becomes clear if the plow is set up correctly. On the next plowing, the machine is lowered by one wheel into the track, and further adjustment takes place in the furrow.

Frequent problems and solutions
Remember that plows are structurally different from each other. The general adjustment process is similar, but the elements for which adjustment takes place may differ. Before starting the connection and setup, read the instructions that came with the device.
The same goes for the tiller. Specify, based on the instructions, whether it is necessary to change the wheels to lugs, and what diameter they should be. It is recommended to install weights on light and middle class tillers so that the unit sinks under the weight of the machine. If the plow is set up correctly, but the machine is still skidding, then the unit is too large for the tiller of your capacity. This problem can be solved by installing weighting materials.
When choosing a device, be guided by the power of the tiller. The heavier the machine, the more diameter the plow can be installed. Heavy diesel tillers are equipped with double-body devices that increase the productivity of the processing of the site.
The design of the plow is simple and straightforward. the main thing is to be attentive to the unit itself and to think sensibly when connecting it. Remember that the unit must be looked after in the same way as the tiller. Clean your implement after plowing, try not to plow stony soils and service your helper in a timely manner.
Sharpening a share
The main working element of the plow is a ploughshare (knife). The share carries the main load during plowing, because it is this element that cuts through the soil layer. Over time, the share becomes dull, which leads to a decrease in plowing performance. A removable share must be installed on the machine.
If the cutting edge is damaged, the device stops easily sinking into the ground, and the tiller begins to slip. If the plowing process has deteriorated, then it’s time to make repairs. The share can be sharpened correctly only on special equipment that will heat the steel to make it plastic. After the steel becomes more plastic, it is straightened, cooled and sharpened. At home, you can use a tool sharpening machine. The share must be sharpened at a slight angle, from the side on which it cuts into the ground.
Plowing depth adjustment
The plowing depth is set according to two parameters:
- type of cultivated land;
- design features.
The plowing depth is adjusted using the adjusting wheel. The deeper the support wheel is lowered, the shallower the plowing depth will be and vice versa. The height of the support wheel must be equal to the height of the raised side.

Plow tuning is a real art. For more than a thousand years, farmers have begun plowing by adjusting this unit. The task of the plow is to turn the top layer of the earth, mix it and create favorable conditions for plant growth. It is a basic agricultural task that prepares the soil for sowing, making it fertile. Plowing is done once a year, and the subsequent cultivation of the land is called harrowing.
Agricultural machinery is used for plowing: cultivators, tillers and tractors. A plow is connected to the equipment, which produces plowing. To work in dachas and personal plots, a tiller is more often used.
The most important thing when plowing is to set the plow correctly. If the adjustment is incorrect, the equipment will start to slip, sink into the ground, and the biochemical processes that are necessary for plant growth will be disrupted in the soil itself.
The angle of attack is adjustable on the frame of the device. Adjust the horizontal position of the frame with a lanyard and lower the machine until the share touches the ground. Then you need to slightly raise the body so that the back of the share is raised a few centimeters above the ground.
If the angle of attack is too high, the tiller will burrow into the ground. If the angle of attack is small, then the unit will not sink to the required depth, but will plow only the top layer of soil.

Its design better meets the requirements corresponding to the cultivated soil: this is the oval angle, the depth of the plowed layer, the width of the plowed area in one pass, as well as the loosening effect.
A self-made plow, taking into account the engine power, will not create an additional load on the tiller, eliminate wheel slip and provide an optimal plowing effect. The use of high-quality material and adherence to technology will significantly increase the service life. When making a plow, you can provide for the possibility of attaching additional equipment for tillage.
Reversible plows differ in the shape of a ploughshare that resembles a feather. A ploughshare with a curved top turns the soil over. Recommended for plowing hard, hard ground. Plows of this type are compatible with tillers of medium and heavy classes, for example MTZ. They got their name from the device that turns the share when changing the plowing direction, which is convenient for long sections. The direction of the soil dump is preserved.
The experience of the owners, who use tillers equipped with plows in their field work, shows that the ploughshare must be removed periodically in order to sharpen it before starting work. When choosing materials for making a share, we recommend using alloy steel 9XC, used in the manufacture of circular saws.
45 steel can be used, but will need to be hardened to HRC 50-55. It is possible to use ordinary steels, including St. 5, which are not hardened, but can be brought to the desired quality if the edge is beaten off with a hammer and sharpened.
Single-body units are the simplest in design. They have only one share and are used for plowing light soils on common garden plots that make up the majority of the land. Such a plow is not suitable for plowing heavy soils and virgin lands; a more powerful structure is required here.
A two-body plow consists of two stapled frames with plowshares. It is used for processing various types of soils and for primary plowing of virgin lands. At the same time will be able to carry out plowing and harrowing, ensures the best quality of soil cultivation.
Dump and dump
By the presence of a blade, plows can be divided into two more types:
- moldboard: the design of such plows allows you to plow the soil, turn the plowed layer and loosen it;
- dump-free: intended for loosening the soil in regions with dry and windy weather.
The plow blade can be made by different methods, we will consider some of them so that we can choose the most convenient and affordable in terms of materials and cost.
- The dump is made of steel sheet with a thickness of 3.0–4.0 mm. For manufacturing, bending rollers are required to give the blade a curved shape. The workpiece is cut according to the template, then passed through the rollers and brought to the required shape with a hammer.
- You can make a blade using a steel pipe with a diameter of 0.55-0.6 m and a wall thickness of 4.0-5.0 mm. Prepare a cardboard template in advance, put it on the pipe so that the angle formed by the bottom edge and the horizontal of the pipe is 20-30 °. The contour is outlined, cut with a gas burner, then processed with emery or an angle grinder. If necessary, you can correct the shape with a hammer.
- When making a blade, you can use a steel sheet, but you can give the shape after preheating the workpiece by bending it along the matrix, for example, taking the blade of a purchased plow.
How to choose the right plow for Tiller Neva?
The plow has a special shape and a heel. It is with this design that it is very convenient and easy to plow stale solid soil. This attachment is made of durable steel, as it performs quite complex work with increased load.
Plows are of different types:
- Rotary. It has several active blades. The soil is cultivated only in one direction, so you have to constantly return to the beginning;
- Negotiable. It has the appearance of a feather, which makes the process of plowing very hard and stale soil very simple and quick. In this case, at the end of the furrow, you just need to turn around and continue working;

A piece of steel about 5 millimeters thick is required. The removable share can be made from a circular saw blade. The working part of the part, which will cut the ground, must be processed on an anvil, and then sharpened.

The disc plow-hiller is a very useful device that allows you to prepare even furrows for planting potatoes and other tuberous crops. Before you start making such a plow, study the drawings. Using them, you can control the build progress and avoid mistakes. The procedure for making a disc plow for a tiller is as follows:
- The support angle acts as the basis of the plow. For its manufacture, use an equilateral corner, the shelves of which, in a cold state, should be reduced at an angle of 70 °;
- Weld the sock to the corner. After that, weld the heel through the stop bar;
- Fasten the cheeks to the support corner with hinges. The distance between the corner and the cheeks should be such that when the cheeks are opened, their end sides do not rest against each other;
- Weld the swivel mechanism to the stop angle so that the supporting part of the mechanism is perpendicular to the angle.
Finally, adjust the plow cheeks. To do this, fix each of them with a vice and adjust so that in the end they are bent in the opposite direction from each other.
Types of plows for tilers
The plows used for plowing are divided into several types. These include:
- single-body designs. these products are the easiest to use. They are lightweight and consist of fewer parts;
- reversible or reversible plows. the upper part of such structures is equipped with a curved blade designed to turn the soil directly in the process of plowing. The reversible plow is most effective when working on heavy soil;
- rotary plows. this type of attachment has the most complex design. On sale you can find a two-body plow, consisting of two, and a three-body plow, consisting of three plowshares;
- disc plows. structures of this type are used mainly for plowing wet soil. The depth of soil processing with such plows is slightly less than in attachments of previous types.
Each of the listed types of plows has found application when plowing a particular type of soil. Nevertheless, the reversible double-sided plow is considered to be the most versatile. it shows high efficiency in processing any type of soil.
How to adjust the plow on the tiller?
The quality of the plowing depends on how correctly you set up the plow on the tiller. Adjusting the attachment is done in 3 steps, during which you must:
- adjust the plowing depth;
- adjust the slope of the field board:
- adjust blade angle.
The plowing depth is the depth at which the plow is plowed when plowing the soil. As a rule, this value should correspond to the height of the bayonet of the shovel. If the immersion depth is insufficient, then as a result, most of the roots of the weeds will remain underground. If the immersion height is too high, it will mix the fertile soil layer with the ground below it. Because of this, the planted plants will be left without nutrients.
The plowing depth is adjusted by means of three bolts connecting the lock and plow shank. By lowering the plow down, or raising it up, you can adjust the depth of its immersion in the ground.
The slope of the plow board is often referred to as the “angle of attack”. This parameter implies the level of inclination of the soil cultivation plane in relation to the ground surface. The tilt of the field board is adjusted using a screw handle. This requires:
- Place the tiller with a plow on several supports;
- Unscrew the handles so that the field board is on the ground;
- Twist the handle in the opposite direction until the board hangs above the ground at a height of 2-3 cm.
If the “attack level” is too high, the plow will cling to the ground, which will lead to constant slippage of the tiller. If this parameter is too small, the plow will not remove the soil layer required for processing.
After completing the previous 2 steps, you can begin to adjust the blade angle. The procedure is as follows:
- To get started, place the tiller with a plow on the edge of the garden and go through the first furrow. This is necessary in order to determine the depth of plowing the soil;
- While driving, try to keep a perfectly level trajectory so that the following furrows are also level. To obtain even furrows, you can use a thread stretched between the beginning and end of the row;
- Next, position the tiller so that its wheel fits in the furrow and the plow is perpendicular to the ground. For best results, use a set square.
After completing all the above steps, you will set the tiller’s plow as correctly as possible, which will help to achieve the best result when plowing the garden.
Tiller Reversible Plow. Manufacturing Procedure
As in the first case, in order to make a rotary plow, you need to study the design diagram. Otherwise, even the slightest inaccuracy will lead to low efficiency of the finished attachment. To make Zykov’s plow, proceed in this order:
- Use sheet steel about 5 mm thick to make the share. Cut a workpiece out of it, heat it with a gas burner and bend it as shown in the figure. The ploughshare must be removable. The cutting part of the part is beaten off on the anvil and sharpened on a special machine;
- Next, make a blade. It can be made from a pipe with a wall thickness of 5 mm and a diameter of 50 cm. Using a template, cut out the blade blank using a gas burner, and then grind the product with an angle grinder;
- After that, from sheet steel, 3 mm thick, make a plow body and assemble the structure using welding;
- File weld seams and sand paper.
As a result of the work, you get a universal plow for a tiller, with which you can work not only dry, but also wet soil.
Installing the plow on the tiller
In the design of any plow, regardless of its size and shape, there is a hitch, by means of which the device is attached to the tiller. The hitch can be stationary or universal. The most optimal option is considered to be an element of the second type, since it gives more opportunities for adjusting the plow.
Regardless of the type of coupling, the installation of the structure on the tiller is always carried out in the same order. To attach the plow to the tiller, proceed in the following sequence:
- First, install the tiller on the stands. you can use bricks or logs for this;
- Attach the plow hitch to the trailer hitch so that the holes on both elements line up with each other;
- Secure the hitch to the towbar with the bolts.
How to Attach a Tiller to a Riding Mower
Many beginners believe that the more secure the plow is attached to the tiller, the more efficient the attachment will work. However, practice shows that too rigid a connection will only worsen the quality of plowing. The fact is that during the operation of the plow, forces act on it, leaving perpendicular to the plane of the blade. This creates resistance that pushes the plow away from the tiller. To eliminate this, when installing the plow, you need to leave a horizontal backlash of about 5 degrees.
How to make a plow for a tiller with your own hands?
Before you start making a plow with your own hands, you will need to carefully study the drawings. They should tell you how to attach the structural parts to each other. The further procedure is as follows:
- First, make a ploughshare. To do this, take steel with a thickness of at least 5 mm and give it the desired shape. Beat off the cutting part of the steel workpiece on the anvil, then sharpen it. This is done in the same way as in the case of sharpening a manual braid;
- Next, you need to make a homemade blade. A steel pipe with a diameter of 50 cm and a wall thickness of no more than 5 mm is suitable for this. Cut the blank for the future blade with a cutter. To give the product the desired shape, beat it off on an anvil and grind it;
- Next, you need to assemble the parts of the plow into one structure. Take a sheet of steel, the dimensions of which should be 50 × 50 cm, and the thickness should be 3 mm. Leave a 4 cm margin around the edges of the sheet and align it so that you end up with a zero angle;
- Then, using wedges, attach a ploughshare to the sheet and make double-sided spot welding, observing an angle of 25 °;
- Connect the ploughshare and the blade together as tightly as possible. An angle of 8 ° should form between the top of the blade and the share blade;
- Then weld the side shield, the share and the rear of the blade together. The video will tell you more about the manufacture of the plow.
Then take accurate measurements of all angles again. Only after making sure that the connections are correct can you finally weld on the plow parts. Once the structure is completely cool, clean out any existing welds.
Plows for mini agricultural machinery
During the operation of a land plot, plowing is used for primary soil cultivation. This process is laborious and energy consuming. Alternatively, consider milling the soil with a tiller mounted on a cultivator or tiller. But in the case of virgin land cultivation, this option is not suitable. In addition, the cutter does not give the same effect as the plow, since its use is aimed at crushing the surface layer of the soil.
When plowing, the upper layer of the soil, already depleted, turns over, along with it shoots of weeds, which also fall to the depth of plowing, where they rot. Another advantage is the working depth, which is one and a half to two times the milling depth.
In principle, if you are engaged in the so-called amateur cultivation of the land, then it will be enough for you to use a cultivator and a milling cutter to carry out this process. But for professional activities and processing large areas of land. you certainly need a plow.
Types of plows for mini agricultural machinery
Our enterprise, PE Kryuchkov, has been developing attachments for mini agricultural machinery for more than ten years. During this time, our engineers have developed, tested and put into mass production many different equipment for soil cultivation, including plows:
- mini tractor.
The process of plowing with a cultivator is considered relative, since the traction unit itself has weak power and is not well suited for such work. But even in such conditions, we were able to develop a plow for this type of equipment. It should be noted that it can only be attached to some cultivators that are equipped with a full-fledged trailing device. Of course, such a device will not turn over a lot of soil, but it will cope with a minimal task. The line includes products with removable and non-removable shares.
The immersion depth is adjusted through the holes in the stand. Attachment to the cultivator is carried out using a hitch for a specific type of unit.
This plow is slightly larger than the previous one and has the ability to dismantle the cutting part. plowshares, for example, for sharpening. In both cases, the adjustment for the depth of immersion in the ground and the method of attachment to the cultivator remain the same. The plowshares themselves are made of high-quality and durable steel, are heat-treated before being installed on the plow.
In the case of a tiller, there are options for choosing the same types as for the cultivator, or a completely different level with the ability to adjust the position relative to the tiller’s axis. It all depends on the power of the power unit. Most often, air-cooled engine tillers are capable of plowing with the PL3 plow.
In principle, the design of this plow is similar to the previous one, except that it is slightly larger in overall dimensions, so the adjustment and fastening mechanisms remain the same.
Tillers with a water-cooled engine are slightly more powerful than the previous ones, so they can be aggregated with attachments designed for a motorcycle tractor. If possible, it is advisable to convert the tiller into a motorcycle tractor. In doing so, you get the following benefits:
- four wheels instead of two;
- rear lifting mechanism;
- sitting position of the operator;
- heavy weight of the power unit.
If you have a tiller with a capacity of 9 hp. and more, you can safely attach products designed for a motorcycle tractor to it.
They differ significantly from the previous options. Their structural elements are: a body, a frame, wheels and a hitch, which is specially designed for attaching to our motorized tractors (the kit for re-equipping a tiller into a motorized tractor has a Zirka-61 mount). If we consider the case, then it is quite powerful; the share is removable, made of high quality steel. The blade and field board are bolted together. The wheel has a tine length of 400 mm and acts as a driving support for the plow with adjustable depth control. In the process of plowing, the plow body goes along the furrow, and the wheel goes on virgin soil. The plow has a special screw for adjusting the angle of attack. The frame itself is capable of changing position to the left and right from the attachment point, and also has a small range of adjustment of the angle of inclination to the sides of the entire structure relative to the longitudinal axis. These settings allow you to adjust the work of the plow to the smallest detail and ensure high-quality and efficient plowing of the land.
Another representative of this type is a plow for a motorized tractor with hydraulics. Basically, this is an analogue of the previous plow, but there are certain differences. First of all, this is a different design of the trailed unit, which provides a range of adjustment of the plow up and down in relation to the motor-tractor (designed for hydraulics). The plow frame has the same features as in the previous version. This model also has a wheel, but it is located at a different angle. The plow body is also collapsible, but has a slightly different attachment to the frame than the previous model.
Another difference is the length of the frame. In the previous plow model, it is 30% longer, this provides the possibility of adjustment relative to the power unit in a wider range.
In principle, both products can be used in combination with a tractor equipped with hydraulics.
Another option for plowing is a two-body plow for a motor-tractor. It is a special triangular frame with locks on the hypotenuse. By loosening their fixation, you can adjust the width between the plows that are attached to these locks.
