How To Install A Fishing Line On A Petrol Cutter

To spend less time and effort mowing grass in the area, you need to use the mechanisms designed for this, petrol cutters, trimmers and lawn mowers. With their help, it will be possible to maintain the area adjacent to the house in excellent condition. The advantage of a brushcutter is that it is not tied to a power source like electric scythes. In addition, its application allows mowing grass on uneven terrain, as well as in hard-to-reach places (for example, under a bush). It is also less safe, since when using electricity there is always a possibility of electric shock.

What to look for when choosing a petrol cutter?

Since the purpose of the scythe is precisely to mow vegetation, the first thing to do is to look at the cutting tool. Domestic petrol cutters are equipped with steel or plastic knives. A saw blade or nylon scaffolding is also used as a cutting part. Based on this, it must be taken into account that the fishing line is absolutely unsuitable for work in areas where there are thickets of bushes. She also will not be able to cut small branches and young shoots from trees. Plastic knives, in turn, cannot be sharpened.

It is better to purchase more versatile models that have the ability to change the cutting tool. In this case, you need to ask how easily and quickly such a replacement is made. You need to understand that steel knives and discs become dull during operation. What then? If they are sharpened, how? Can you do it yourself? If the manufacturer provides spare cutting tools, how much is included in the package and can be purchased at retail? After all, the petrol brush itself is designed for a long service life. A steel knife may break, but where to get another?

Chainsaws are usually equipped with a 2 or 4 stroke engine. The first ones are somewhat lighter, but their operation is much more noisy. Although the set may include headphones that are used during work. Therefore, everyone chooses a model at their discretion. The scythe power can be up to 1.5 hp. Another such nuance of the 4T model needs to be kept somewhat tilted, at an angle. This is necessary for oil to get on all parts of the braid. But the 2T models can be held as you like, in any position they work stably.

Practice shows that corner models are less reliable, and their power is less. However, with a bent bar, steel knives are not used, since with such a configuration, the knife is easy to break. There are models with a folding bar, but they are short-lived.

The handles can be of various shapes. They are called T, D or J shaped. The T-handle is well suited for work in open and relatively level areas. This configuration follows the shape of a traditional braid and allows for large, wide sweeps. The D-shaped handle is more suitable for working in difficult areas: along fences and buildings, under bushes, among trees. For areas with high vegetation, a scythe with a J-handle works well. By the way, it is the best in terms of safety.

And yet, focusing on the technical characteristics and cost of a particular model, do not forget about the convenience of using this particular braid. If it fits well in your hands, does not impede movement, then, most likely, your choice was made correctly. I recommend to see the specialist tells about the choice of brushcutters and its maintenance:

In addition to the standard lawn line, my trimmer has a thick line for cutting rough weeds. It has the shape of a pigtail, i.E. Three lines are tightly intertwined. This line has its own spool.

We fill the line in the trimmer.

I want to devote today’s article to the sore subject of summer residents and gardeners of the entire post-Soviet space How to fill the line in the trimmer. Not many trimmer manufacturers answer this question in their instruction manuals. Therefore, it is difficult for ordinary gardeners to figure out how to do it correctly.

I want to start with a brief description of the technical characteristics of the trimmers.

So, trimmers are electric and gasoline. The cutting element for trimmers can be a line and a knife. The line is ordinary, four. Pentahedral and intertwined (in the form of a pigtail). Knives come in 2, 3 and 4 bladed knives. There are also plastic and metal knives.

The line feed system from the trimmer is manual, semi-automatic and automatic.

The development engineers who create new models of trimmers clearly calculate the diameter (thickness) of the line and the number of knife blades, according to the power of the trimmers. Otherwise, the motor is overloaded, resulting in damage. And these are additional and significant costs.

Trimmers on the market today:

With one nozzle only with a line.
With two line nozzles and three-four-blade knife.
With one nozzle only three-four-bladed knife.

Our Kulibins have long ago learned to improve any mechanisms. So, for example, some gardeners make successful, in their opinion, replacement of fishing line with a metal cable, or fishing line. But at the same time, they do not think about the safety of their own and their loved ones, because, like a cable with the power of a working trimmer, it can easily break out and not only injure the mower and others, but leave him crippled for life. Using a fishing line can and gives a better effect, I have never personally tried it than a trimmer line, but such work has a number of inconveniences: when it comes into contact with hard objects, it loosens or can simply be pulled out of the reel without limit.

So, what is called closer to the topic. Here is an example of how to thread the line into the trimmer (Trimmer BOSCH Art 30). Everything is very simple. We started.

  • After you have chosen the line for refueling, you need to cut off the required amount of line, because all the line in the skein will not be wound into the reel.
  • Cut off and start winding.
  • Remove the coil and the protective cover from the coil.
  • They took it off. We fasten one end of the line into the gap and carefully and evenly wind the line.
  • The amount of line should be such that the protective cover of the reel closes and the line on the reel unwinds a little by itself.
  • We put the other end of the line into the hole in the protective casing.
  • Next, we take the coil and the protective cover of the coil. We squirt the end of the line from the reel into the metal hole on the reel’s protective cover. We tighten the line a little.
  • We put it all on the trimmer. Turn the coil clockwise until it clicks.
  • They fixed it. Now we connect the trimmer to the network. We put the trimmer in the starting position for work. We turn on the trimmer. Excessive line length will be cut on the trimming blade.
  • Coil in trimmer
  • That’s all we start working on.
  • Material you can see

A little advice. Try not to let the line come into contact with hard objects when cutting. With this contact, the line will be cut. And since in this trimmer the line is not fed automatically, then every time you have to stop work, remove the reel and release the line again.

Now, having removed and disassembled the coil, we proceed, in fact, to winding.

How to properly wind the line on the trimmer spool

Many, having worked out the factory line on a recently purchased trimmer, try to wind a new one, but cannot, because they do not know how to properly wind the line on the trimmer spool (bobbin). It seems that there is an instruction, but it still does not work. Let’s try to deal with this issue in this article.

So, in order to wind the line, you first need to remove the coil from the trimmer so it will be more convenient. The method of removal will depend on the type of trimmer.

Removing the coil from the trimmer

On small, bottom motor electric trimmers (when operating near the ground), the reel usually has two buttons on the sides. Click on them and disconnect one half of the coil body from the second, which remains on the trimmer. Together with the first half, the inner part is also taken out, on which the fishing line is directly wound. When disassembling, be careful: there is a spring inside that can fly out and get lost.

On electric and gasoline trimmers with a curved bar (on such trimmers it is not yet possible to put a knife), you need to grab the coil body with one hand, and with the other hand you need to start rotating the lamb on it counterclockwise. It is he who attaches the coil to the trimmer bar. Having unscrewed the lamb, carefully remove the entire coil, trying not to lose the spring inside.

On electric and gasoline trimmers with a straight bar and a gearbox at its end (on such trimmers, in addition to the fishing line, you can also install a knife), we look for a hole under the coil, insert, for example, a screwdriver into it, quietly rotate the coil until the screwdriver crawls even deeper, and the coil will lock. Now we turn the whole coil clockwise (since the thread is left-handed) and remove it from the trimmer. Then we disassemble the coil. It can be assembled using latches or twisted with a lamb. If the coil is on latches, then press on the sides on the base of the latches so that they bend and release one half of the coil body from the other. We just unscrew the lamb. There may also be a third type of connection between two halves of such a coil: with it, you need to grab the lower part with one hand, and the upper part with the other, and start turning them in opposite directions. When disassembling such a coil, you must also make sure that the spring inside is not lost.

Winding process

If your coil is designed to work with only one tendril, then it’s simple. You need to rewind 2-4 m of fishing line (depending on the size of the reel), find a fixing hole for the line on the inside of the reel, insert one end of the line there and start winding the line in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the reel on the trimmer. On the inside of the reel, they usually indicate with an arrow in which direction to wind the line. Having reeled up the fishing line, we leave a small piece of it unwound to expose it. We fix this piece in a special groove located on the inside of the reel and designed so that at the time of collecting the reel the line does not unwind. If there is no such groove, then you will have to hold the fishing line with your finger to prevent it from unwinding during the further collection of the coil. Next, we take the outer part of the coil and thread the outer piece of fishing line into the existing hole, assemble and put the coil back on the trimmer.

If the coil is designed to work with two antennae, then do the following. On the inside of the reel, we look at how many grooves there are for winding the fishing line. There may be one or two of them. If there is one groove, then both tendrils are wound along this one groove. If there are two grooves, then each antenna is wound along its own groove. A reel with one groove must have a through hole through which the line is threaded. We unwind 2-4 m of fishing line, thread it through this hole so that it sticks out equally on each side of the fishing line. And we simultaneously wind both antennae of the fishing line in the same direction, opposite to the direction of rotation of the coil on the trimmer and coinciding with the direction indicated by the arrow on the inside of the coil. We leave a little fishing line unwound, fix the resulting ends in special grooves, and if they are not there we hold them with our fingers. We pass both ends into the existing holes on the outer casing of the coil. We collect the coil and attach it to the trimmer.

If there are two grooves, fold a piece of fishing line 2-4 m long in half, insert the loop obtained at the place of the bend into the groove between the two grooves, and simultaneously wind both ends of the fishing line, each along its own groove. Further actions are similar to the previous option.

There are also reels in which the fishing line is threaded through a through hole on the inside. After that, the ends of the line, without winding, are threaded completely through the holes on the outer body of the reel, collect the reel and begin to rotate the button, which is usually pressed, in order to release the line during operation as it wears out. Rotate the button inside the fishing line itself. In this case, it will not work to turn it in the wrong direction, since it can only turn in one direction. If you get used to it, you can wind fishing line on such a reel, without even disassembling it, you just need to combine the through hole of the inner drum with the holes on the outer body of the reel, and then thread the fishing line through them.

That’s all on this issue. Happy winding!

Let’s get started

Before tucking the line into the trimmer correctly, you need to cut off the required amount. Do not be greedy, as for the first time, five meters will be enough for training. For this, the protective cover is removed from the trimmer coil, and one end of the line is clamped in a special clip (or slot).

You need to reel evenly, trying not to overtighten. In general, the spool should be filled until the line layer is equal to the edge of the spool. It should not lie too tightly, slightly straightening after putting on the casing.

How to properly install the line on the petrol cutter Instructions for refueling the petrol trimmer line

  1. Press the clips inward until they click and remove the cover from the mowing head.
  2. Turn the spool gently, it will free itself from the holder, and now remove it.
  3. Cut off two identical pieces of line (the edge of the line should be cut at an angle. This will make the job easier). Take one of them and insert the end of the line into a special pocket on the reel (there may be hooks, ears, clips). Then wind the string in the direction of the arrows. Spread the line evenly, tightly. Fix the end of the string into the specially provided hole in the reel.
  4. Do the same operation with the second part of the line, only thread the end on the spool from the opposite side.
  5. Return the line spool to the mowing head. Pull out the ends of the line through the holes in the spool and thread them into the special connector on the head.
  6. Spread out the line carefully and close the lid. Cut the excess fishing line, leaving 12-15 cm at each edge.

All is ready. The trimmer is loaded with line and ready to go. Now you can happily get down to mowing your favorite meadow, summer cottage, local area.

It is only important to remember that not only the quality of the work performed, but also your safety will depend on how you feed the cutting line into the trimmer.

Finishing work

Then the remaining end of the line is threaded through the hole in the protective cover. After that, the reel and its protective cover are connected, and this time a piece of line is threaded into the hole on the protective cover.

The assembly is pushed onto the trimmer by turning clockwise until a clearly audible click is heard. By the way, before installing the line on the trimmer, figure it out better with its design. Otherwise, you can easily break something.

That’s all. The tool is put into working position, turned on, after which the extra piece of fishing line is cut by itself on a blade specially made for this.

So you learned how to properly tuck the line into the trimmer!

Trimmer head modification

Trimmer mowing heads can be of various modifications: single-line for trimming the lawn (mows with one line of fishing line); two-string for mowing grass and clearing areas with automatic line feed or manual string length adjustment.

Modern growers increasingly offer gardeners with universal trimmers with two-line automatic mowing heads.
