The development engineers who create new models of trimmers accurately calculate the diameter (thickness) of the line and the number of knife blades, according to the power of the trimmers. Otherwise, the engine is overloaded, resulting in damage to the engine. And these are additional and significant costs.

Our Kulibins have long ago learned to improve any mechanisms. So, for example, some gardeners make successful, in their opinion, replacement of fishing line with a metal cable, or fishing line. But at the same time, they do not think about the safety of their own and their loved ones, because, like a cable with the power of a working trimmer, it can easily break out and not only injure the mower and others, but leave him crippled for life. Using a fishing line can and gives a better effect, I have never personally tried it than a trimmer line, but such work has a number of inconveniences: when it comes into contact with hard objects, it loosens or can simply be pulled out of the reel without limit.

When choosing a trimmer line, it is especially important to consider the diameter value. As the diameter of the line grows, its strength increases. A good 3-4 (mm) thick line can be used to cut already formed and matured weeds. The fishing line is thinner, by 1.5-2.5 (mm), you can only entrust the mowing of young growth.

The diameter of the line is directly related to the power of the lawn mower. Thick line can only be used on powerful and efficient machines. Usually 3-4 (mm) line is used on lawn mowers with engine power from 1000-1200 (W).

In terms of line length, the longer the line, the less often you need to reload the drum. How else can you classify lawn mower line types?

There are usually no questions about semi-automatic reels, the operator just needs to insert the line into the holes and wind its ends with a brace.

As it is correct, professional lawn mowers, that is, models for frequently performing a large amount of work, are equipped with a simple drum, which involves manual winding of the fishing line. Thanks to their simple design, such coils acquire the highest level of reliability and durability.

• The first step is to stop the mower completely. If it is an electric model, be sure to remove the plug from the socket. If this is a battery trimmer, then you need to disconnect the battery, of course, if it is removable.
• Next, you should disconnect the spindle, that is, the reel itself with the line drum. As a rule, the spindle is simply unscrewed; there are no additional latches or latches on it. Preliminarily, the position of the spindle must be fixed. For this purpose, a hole is provided in the drum, which must be aligned with the hole in the casing. A metal rod (nail, drill, etc.) must be inserted into the aligned holes.

Please note that the coil has a non-standard right-hand thread. It unscrews from left to right. This is done on purpose so that the spindle does not unscrew spontaneously during the mowing process.

• Disconnect the drum cover. It rests on a pair of latches. Typically, you just need to squeeze the latches to open the cover. If you cannot squeeze the latches with your fingers, you can resort to using an impact screwdriver.

• Cooking the fishing line. You need to cut the line and fold it in half. We bend the center of the fishing line so that a comfortable hook is obtained from the rounded loop.
• We put the loop into a special groove on the central partition.

• We wind the line so that the central partition divides the line folded in half into 2 separate channels. Usually you need to wind the line against the direction of rotation of the spindle. When winding the line against the direction of rotation, it becomes possible to semi-automatic / automatic line feed.

Semi-automatic feed is when, to lengthen the line, during the mowing process, you just need to press the push button to the ground. Automatic feeding assumes independent stretching of the fishing line with a decrease in the center of gravity of the cutting antennae.

Many drums are marked with a pointer. As is clear, the line must be wound in the direction in which the arrow points. Marking may not be present on drums where line needs to be fed manually, on a completely stopped and unplugged lawn mower.

• We put the terminal antennae into the spindle holes, through which the cord is fed.

Alternative way of charging the line into the reel

The drums of modern lawn mowers, with 2 antennae, have a special eyelet in each of the channels. Thanks to the eyelet, it becomes possible to wind the line for each channel separately. For some, a similar method of winding the fishing line turns out to be preferable.

• We remove the spool. To do this, it is advisable to stop it with a screwdriver or something like that. The coil is unscrewed clockwise.

• Remove the cover and remove the drum. Typically, the cover is secured with a pair of latches. When the drum is disconnected, the spring will be accessible. Don’t lose her!

• Cooking two separate lines of the same length.

• Bend the tip of the fishing line crochet.

• We thread the hook into the eyelet.

• We reel the fishing line on one of the channels. Usually the line is wound against the rotation of the spool.
• We fix the tip of the fishing line so that it does not unwind. For this purpose, appropriate connectors are provided around the very edge of the drum.

• We repeat all the above operations with the second line. It needs to be wound in the same direction as the first cord.

As a rule, such drums have both a traditional hook on the central partition of the channels, and a separate lug in each channel. The user of lawn mowers with such a drum can choose how the line is charged. Each method is good in its own way.

On electric and gasoline trimmers with a straight bar and a gearbox at its end (on such trimmers, in addition to fishing line, you can also install a knife), we look for a hole under the coil, insert, for example, a screwdriver into it, quietly rotate the coil until the screwdriver crawls even deeper, and the coil will lock. Now we turn the whole coil clockwise (since the thread is left-handed) and remove it from the trimmer. Then we disassemble the coil. It can be assembled using latches or twisted with a lamb. If the coil is on latches, then press on the sides on the base of the latches so that they bend and release one half of the coil body from the other. We just unscrew the lamb. There may also be a third type of connection of two halves of such a coil: with it, you need to grab the lower part with one hand, and the upper part with the other, and start turning them in opposite directions. When disassembling such a coil, you also need to make sure that the spring inside is not lost.

Some trimmers do not have instructions for threading line into the drum. Not everyone guesses to look at the factory gas station after buying a trimmer. And now the line is over, but how to fill a new one is unclear.

• Having decided on the direction of rotation, you should start winding. Each end should be guided in its own groove. If there is no separator, then the equipment must be laid in the appropriate distribution order.
• When almost all the fishing line is wound on a reel, you will need to do the following. place a short part in the hole of the side wall of the pickup, the protrusion of which should be up to 10-15 cm, and then similarly do the procedure with the other end, placing it in the hole on the parallel side
• We insert the coil into the head, first passing the ends of the fishing line into the holes of the drum
• We put the drum in place and, pulling the ends of the line, disengage them from the temporary clamps in the wall of the reel. After that, you can put on the cover until the latch engages.

• There are two equal length pieces of material that you can use.
