How To Make A Dog House
If you decide to have a dog, first of all determine where it will live. Usually, when kept in an apartment, the most peaceful place of the corridor is assigned to it (you cannot place the dog in a draft, in the kitchen or in the bathroom). A thick rug or a home-made mattress is placed here, the size of which allows an adult animal to lie flat on it.
On the litter you can sew a pair of lightweight covers made of thick fabric. The bedding of a quilt or mattress is difficult to clean, it is unhygienic. All of the above applies to urban dogs. But our four-legged friends are loyal and reliable assistants for the villager. Protection of the courtyard, backyard – that is the most common work that they have to perform.
The natural qualities of dogs – good hearing, a delicate sense of smell, devotion to the owner, viciousness and distrust of strangers – have long been used by humans. The very domestication of dogs proceeded precisely along the lines of the use of their guard qualities. There are several ways for a dog to carry out the guard service: free covering (i.e. without a leash), on a cable and on a deaf leash. But in any case, the dog needs a roof over his head, a shelter, where he can warm him.
The simplest solution is double walls, the space between which is filled with insulation, for example, foam plastic. In our variant the house for a dog consists of four wall panels, a floor and a roof. The dimensions of the panels should be chosen so that the internal volume of the room corresponds to the size of the dog. All panels have a similar design.
The frame is assembled from wooden bars 50X50 mm on nails, the connection in the "thorn". It provides sufficient spatial rigidity. To give the roof a ramp back, it could take shelter from the weather, rest.
Actually about the house for the dog booth and will be discussed. At first glance it seems there is nothing easier! This is not entirely true. First, the booth must be comfortable, “cozy” and fit the size of the dog; secondly, it is attractive enough externally so as not to spoil the view of the yard or the plot of land. The proposed design just meets all these conditions.
Even if you brought a puppy, then the booth for him must fit the size of an adult dog. In front of the booth, a wooden shield with a size of 1X1.6 m is laid and a pole with a ring is tipped in to attach the animal. A fence with a size of at least 3x 3 m and a height of 2 m is built around the booth. Such a grid allows the puppy to observe everything that happens in the yard, which helps to maintain good contact with the environment and prevent a passive-defensive reaction (cowardice).
For an adult dog there is no need for such a fence. The booth should be located in a dry place, better elevated. If there is no natural elevation in the vicinity of the gate, gate, or at the door of the house, it can be made artificial. The roof of the booth should have a slope back for free flow of rainwater.
For the same purpose, it is necessary to provide a drainage chute or pipe from the back wall of the booth. Since in most of our country the winter is rather severe, the booth must be warmed, the upper bars of the side panel frames are installed with a slope of 10 °. At the same angle it is necessary to cut the top bar of the front panel. From the inside, plywood sheets, repeating the shape of the frames, are nailed onto the frames. These sheets form the inner walls of the booth.
The material for the outer walls can be tightly fitted boards or “lining”. Since the width of the frames of the front and rear panels is less than the width of the floor (they are inserted between the side panels already installed on the floor), the boards of their outer walls should have an allowance corresponding to the thickness of the side panels.
In the given variant it is 70 mm. Fastening of wall panels to the floor – with nails, from below, through its frame. The boards of the outer walls of the front and rear panels, in addition, are nailed to the ends of the side panels.
The roof frame should have front and rear outlets up to 150 mm. Boards outer roof covering nailed with the release on the side to 100 mm. As already mentioned, the interior of the panels, including the floor and the roof, is filled with foam or some other insulation. After assembly, it is advisable to cover the roof of the booth with roofing sheets or roofing felt.
And one more piece of advice, again the same for a harsh winter: a manhole in a doghouse can be hung with a piece of cloth or quilted fabric, just like the type of car engine that is warmed in winter. Such a “soft” door will not interfere with the entrance and exit of the dog from the booth and at the same time help to keep it warm.
