How to put the disc on the trimmer

How to sharpen and deliver?

With constant use, the gas cutter will sooner or later begin to need regular maintenance. One of the important points is the timely sharpening of knives. The metal disc can, of course, work in a dull state, but it cannot be used. This leads to a decrease in performance, overheating of the engine, and wear of the gearbox. Sharpening the teeth or blades is a snap, but if you want, you can simply install new knives.

  • First of all, the knife is removed from the device. It is not recommended to sharpen directly on the brushcutter, as it is unsafe.
  • Next, you need to inspect the cutting element for chips, cracks, damage. If they are, then you will need to install a new disk.
  • You can use a file, sharpener or grinder to sharpen knives. The safest tool is a file that even a beginner can handle. For sharpening, the knife is placed in a vice, and then manually processed at an angle of 30 degrees. This method is considered the highest quality.

When using a grinder, it is important not to overheat the metal, otherwise the disc will quickly become unusable. A grinder with a thin abrasive wheel is suitable for sharpening discs with many teeth.

  • At the end of sharpening, the blade can be reattached to the trimmer and check how efficiently the tool is working. Do not handle the sharp parts of the knife to avoid injury.

Over time, the knife will wear out and should be replaced. Fitting a new disc to the trimmer is a snap. This procedure takes no more than 5 minutes of time, if you follow simple instructions.

  • First you need to remove the protective cover, but on some models it may remain. For example, metal covers cannot be removed from the brushcutter.
  • Next, you should take a key with six faces (hexagon) and use it to block the gearbox. The hole for blocking must be looked for from the side or from the end.
  • After that, it is necessary to unscrew the mowing head from the brushcutter.
  • Then a disc will be installed in its place. It should be noted that the inner diameter of the knife must be completely located in the groove reserved for this. The face of the nozzle should be with the letters facing up.
  • Now you need to fix the disk with a special washer and screw the fastening nut counterclockwise. Before doing this, it is necessary to block the gearbox shaft.
  • The last step is to install a protective plastic casing.

How to choose?

When choosing a knife for a mower, there are many points to pay attention to. For example, metal toothed discs are most often circular in shape. Teeth can differ in shape, appearance, size. For small trees and dense grass, it is better to give preference to discs with a large number of teeth.

It is worth noting such an advantage of milling discs for brushcutters, as a quick set of revolutions. However, a high moment of inertia does not have the best effect on the machine drive. For dense mowing, for high, as well as for small coarse grass and bushes, it is better to choose circles with 40 or more teeth and perforation. They are able not to chop up vegetation, and at the same time it will practically not wrap around a circle. If the number of teeth is more than 60, then you can safely mow grass and trees with a trunk thickness of up to 7 cm.

Solid discs and discs without holes are very heavy, so they should be chosen for powerful trimmers (over 40 cm3). At the same time, they are convenient for mowing rare grass, dead wood, they are also suitable for mowing with different densities.

Victory-tipped discs should be chosen for mowing plants near obstacles. If you need to mow grass for hay, then steel knives with a large number of teeth with an even sharpening should be preferred. Solid discs with 16 to 32 teeth cut well thick-stemmed plants.

For low power trimmers, paddle discs with a minimum moment of inertia are better suited. The fewer the blades, the more the tool will chop the grass. Thus, discs with two blades are most often used for mowing uniform grass. The main advantage of this species is that it throws cut plants to the side.

When harvesting hay, it is recommended to choose knives with four blades so that the grass is not chopped up.

The thickness of the blades is also important when choosing. Discs can be stamped or forged. The former are distinguished by a low price, but at the same time they can be severely damaged when faced with an obstacle. As for forged discs, they do not chip and cut when colliding with hard objects.

For electric trimmers, choose only plastic blades. Their low weight will not put unnecessary stress on the engine. Soft plastic allows the knives to not break when facing an obstacle, but simply bend or deform slightly. It is recommended to use such cutting elements for cutting thick soft grass.

By form

By shape, knives with disc blades and several blades are distinguished, which are at a certain distance from each other. The shape of the blades may also vary. It should be noted that this does not affect either the speed or the quality of the brushcutter’s work.

Currently, manufacturers began to offer, in addition to traditional shapes, also triangular, rectangular and trapezoidal.

By making cutting edges

  • with two tines. for young soft grass, lawns;
  • with three teeth. for young grass, dead wood, weeds;
  • with four tines. for tough grass and young tree shoots;
  • with eight teeth, mows grass without too much chopping;
  • with 24 teeth. for hard and dry grass, shrubs, thin trees;
  • with 40 or more teeth. for mowing any grass, bushes, trees;
  • 80 and more. for professional brushcutters.

Blades:

  • with two. for soft and low braids;
  • with three. for mowing weeds;
  • with four or more. for mowing grass for hay.

Species overview

For brushcutters, preference should be given to special knives. They allow you to cut taller, tougher grass than line. In addition, the knife is suitable even for pruning young bushes.

There are many types of discs that differ in the cutting edge, shape and material from which they are made.

Each species has its own characteristics.

Discs for petrol cutters: what are they, how to select and install?

  • How to properly mow the grass?

Brushcutter knives are an irreplaceable thing. It is enough to choose the right one, and you can use them to mow huge areas of grass. Of course, the variety of knives complicates the task of selecting them somewhat. To understand which cutting element is needed, you need to familiarize yourself with the main ones. You should also find out in advance about the correct sharpening and operation of knives.

By material

The disc for the brushcutter can be made of metal or plastic. It should be clarified that plastic blades should be preferred for electric brushcutters. They fit perfectly with the curved shaft of this tool, which doesn’t separate too much between the work area and the mower’s legs. Plastic knives are good at mowing overgrown dry grass, for example, nettle or burdock trunks.

The metal knives are only suitable for the petrol trimmer. This is due to the flat bar that moves the disc away from the feet to a safe distance. Special shaped handles also contribute to safety. When hitting a hard object, part of the impact is absorbed by the engine clutch. Iron knives are suitable for mowing grass from large areas, weeds, bushes, young trees.

Manufacturers overview

There are a lot of manufacturers of discs for brushcutters. It is worth familiarizing yourself with the most popular among them. For example, the Bosch brand is known for its knives with two and three blades. The peculiarity of the knives of this company is that each of the blades can be replaced separately from the others.

Another firm known for its bladed knives is Shark. The advantage of the design is that the blades are fixed relative to each other at an angle of 120 degrees. As a result, it is easy to adjust each of the blades, which is convenient for different types of vegetation. Another feature of knives from this manufacturer is their low weight.

Husqvarna is also known for its multi-tooth knives, especially the hay knives. Ideal for dense and dense grass. Of the minuses, it is worth noting the large weight of the discs and the fact that you cannot turn the knife over if one side of it is sharpened.

Inforce knives do a good job with undergrowth and branches. In practice, the metal from which the cutting elements are made shows itself to be very durable. The only thing is that in some models the victorious soldering is erased very quickly.

The discs cope equally well with different types of grass, as well as with shrubs and trees.

Rezer discs are excellent at mowing grass, weeds, branches. The teeth can withstand well even cutting down trees with a thickness of 6 centimeters or more. However, they have a drawback in the form of winding grass on a shaft.

Patriot produces quality knives. Users note that if you choose the right disk for a specific job, then it will serve for a long time and amaze with its performance. Knives from this manufacturer are very easy to sharpen yourself.

Instructions from the manufacturer

Petrol scythe device

2-stroke engine;

The weight of the entire device is about 8 kg, which is quite difficult to hold in your hands. Therefore, complete with the most oblique there is an unloading belt-backpack with a protective pad and regulators.

The scythe is intended for mowing grass and small shrubs in personal plots.

As you know, grass can be mowed in different ways. by folding it into swaths or simply by mowing. In addition, the grass is different. soft or rough, with thick stems, shrub growth.

Getting Started

Before starting work, you need to check all fasteners and, if necessary, tighten them all the way. Put on the backpack belt and tighten the adjusting tightenings.

Then place the braid on a hard, flat surface and make sure that the cutter is not in contact with anything.

Then you need to set the throttle grip to the “OFF” position and the switch on the grip to the “I”.

Before the first start, you can pump the working mixture into the starting system by pressing several times on the soft hemisphere of the valve under the air filter.

Holding the braid in a stationary position with your left hand, you need to sharply pull the starter cord with your right hand.

The engine may not start the first time, in which case you should try again.

After the engine has started to work, it is necessary to move the throttle grip to the “ON” position.

It is recommended to let the device idle before work.

If you want to start the scythe immediately after stopping the engine, then you should not close the throttle before starting.

To start the mowing process, you need to fasten the petrol cutter with a carabiner to the unloading belt and, holding the trigger, start mowing using the “right-to-left” scythe movement (when using the mowing head. “left-to-right”).

On the handle of the scythe next to the switch there is a button with which you can jam the trigger and operate the tool effortlessly.

The plane of the cutting tool must be parallel to the ground.

In work, it is imperative to follow the safety rules and dress according to the requirements. glasses are used to protect the eyes, you need to put on boots with non-slip soles, your hands should be protected by gloves, and you can use headphones from noise.

To stop the engine, just turn the switch on the handle to the “0” position.

Choosing the right attachment

In addition to their product, the manufacturer usually provides several cutters (usually 3).

For working with soft grass, a line wound on a drum is used as a cutting element. The speed of 9000 rpm allows you to quickly work even a large lawn.

For coarser grass and thickets, you can use one of the metal knives, which differ in the number of cutting teeth.

A disc with 40 or 80 teeth is intended for mowing dense growth, reeds, young shrubs. Corn, dry weeds with thick stalks can be mowed with three- and four-blade cutters.

And in order to lay the cut grass in the rolls, a knife with 8 blades is used and a special comb is attached to the scythe itself.

And now more about how to install the cutter. The attachment point of the cutter is called the gearbox. On it, you first need to fix the curly washer using a hex wrench.

Then put on the knife, aligning the holes in it with the protrusion of the washer. After that, you need to install the upper figured washer on the shaft and tighten everything with a nut.

Here you should pay attention to the fact that the thread on the shaft is left-handed, so tighten the nut (as well as the mowing head) counterclockwise.

The wrench, which is also included in the delivery set, will help to tighten the nut until it stops. You can replace the cutter by doing all the operations in reverse order.

Refueling the brushcutter

To refuel the chainsaw, not pure gasoline is used, but a working mixture, which must be prepared in certain proportions.

The combustible mixture consists of RON 95 gasoline and quality oil for air-cooled two-stroke engines.

The proportion should be 25 parts of gasoline to 1 part of oil.

It is better to mix the components in a separate container, from which, using a funnel, then pour the mixture into the fuel tank.

After filling the braids, wipe the entire surface dry in places with traces of spilled liquid.

  • To make the trimmer last long

The owners of summer cottages and country houses are familiar with the problem of maintaining their backyard territory in an aesthetic form. A lot of effort goes into mowing the grass and mowing the lawn. Electric and petrol trimmers help to automate such processes.

Let’s take a closer look at one of these devices.

To make the trimmer last long

To prepare the spit for the winter period, it is necessary to remove the fuel from the tank, start the engine and let it work out the rest of the mixture. After stopping, it is necessary to unscrew the candle and pour 20 cubes of oil into the cylinder, pull the starter cord several times and screw the candle into place.

In order for the petrol brush to work smoothly for the entire period of its operation, it is necessary to follow all the rules for working with this device. Here are the main ones:

Before work, carefully inspect the device for problems with the fuel tank, fasteners or cutters;

Make sure there is a sufficient amount of working mixture in the fuel tank;

How to put the disc on the trimmer correctly

How to mow with a trimmer (with a metal knife)

Walk around the site first.
a) to determine:
– the boundaries of the area where you will mow with the trimmer;
– where are the plants in the grass that cannot be cut (flowers, bushes, seedlings);
b) to determine the starting point (you need to start mowing with the trimmer from the lightest area in order to create an open space so that when moving into larger grass it is better to see the mowing area);
c) to determine the direction of mowing with the trimmer (depending on the presence of ditches, slopes and slopes of the grass);
d) to determine how to cut with the trimmer:
– in folds. if the site is flat with flat grass (so that there are fewer transitions);
– with the transition back to a clean place, when mowing lodged grass (its slope should be directed forward);
– mowing across a large slope (it is much easier to mow across a slope with a trimmer than going up and down a slope).

We put a metal knife: weed or hay. Protection, i.e. knife guard, obligatory (without additional protection for the trimmer head)
– to mow with a trimmer, it is necessary to assemble in order: a driver chuck, a metal knife (it must be put without skewing), a support cup, a fastening flange and screw on a nut (left-hand thread);
– insert the locking pin and turn the metal knife to lock the output shaft of the Husqvarna gearbox;
– tighten the nut with a wrench with a force of 3. 5 kg / m;

When mowing with a trimmer with a metal blade, you need to set:
– the speed of the knife, depending on the irregularities (to mow with the trimmer cleaner and faster);
– working grip of the disc: between 8 and 12 o’clock (when the knife moves to the left);
– reverse (can be working, cleaning up or idle);
– gas (by load);
– on level: the angle of inclination of the knife and the width of the mow (more);
– cutting height (to make it easier to mow with a trimmer or to make it cleaner);
– where to move (along the ditch, along the slope of the grass, on the site);

11 o’clock) and to the right with an inclination of the handles to the right (sector

1 hour), and take your time. to mow with a trimmer neatly and not to “dig” the ground;
– during work (and turns) do not forget to look around !:
1.To notice the gestures of others, turn off the engine and remove the headphones,
2. so that children, animals, spectators and assistants do not come closer than 15 m. when a metal knife collides with a stationary object in the grass, the trimmer or a brushcutter (brushcutter) can be strongly thrown to the side or turned back, and the maximum speed of the metal knife is 10,500 rpm. and he is able to cut off an arm or a leg,
and also, when cutting with a trimmer, various objects (rubble, glass, debris) can fly out and ricochet out from under the metal knife.

How to mow with a trimmer correctly (more about mowing technique).

Engine speed when mowing with a trimmer is set depending on the load on the engine. the thicker the grass and, naturally, the heavier the engine, the bolder you need to open the hole (throttle valve in the carburetor diffuser).
Try to keep the engine operating speed constant while cutting with the trimmer (slightly above average). or less gas. only depending on the total load on the engine. There is no need to completely dump the throttle (and immediately accelerate again) with each sweep of the streamer. So it does not take long to burn the clutch, and it can overtake the edges on the drive shaft. and the overall wear of the trimmer (brushcutters) increases dramatically.

Fitting a diamond blade

This operation outwardly does not differ from the fastening of a typical disk, except that even more attention, accuracy and thorough control is required.

We remove the spool with the fishing line, blocking the gearbox shaft with a special pin or a screwdriver of a suitable diameter, rotating the fishing line container counterclockwise.

We measure the diamond disc to the lower spline washer and make sure that its bore is larger than the diameter of the seating collar on the washer. At high speeds, the saw blade may move, imbalance may occur, which will inevitably lead to tool breakage and even injury to the operator or people nearby.

We try on the compensating washers alternately and choose the one that fits the width and completely selects the gap between the saw blade seat and the centering shoulder of the lower washer.

We install alternately on the gearbox shaft the lower washer with a compensation ring, a diamond disc, an upper washer and a protective cup, which still partially redistributes the clamping force over a large area.

We tighten the entire resulting package on the gearbox shaft with a nut with a left-hand thread, first by hand, and then with a socket wrench, blocking the gearbox shaft from below using a suitable screwdriver.

We remove the protective split plastic tube from the teeth and once again check the strength of the saw blade fastening to the gearbox shaft. If it turned out to be reliable, then the trimmer, with the installed diamond disc, is completely ready, both for traditional and not intended for this tool, work.

Test in practice

For safety, you must wear a protective helmet with a transparent visor to protect your face, gloves on your hands.

First, we try to remove thin dry branches, gradually moving to larger ones, and finish testing by cutting dry and semi-dry tree trunks with a diameter of 7-8 cm.

CIRCULAR Saw Blade on TRIMMER ??? +TEST

Make sure the diamond blade trimmer works efficiently, reliably and safely. Slices, both transverse and oblique, are very smooth. They do not show crumpled and torn wood fibers.

Mowing grass with a diamond blade is also quite comfortable, efficient and productive, regardless of its height, density and degree of dryness.

So, a trimmer with a saw blade not only perfectly performs its direct functions (mowing grass), but also expands the scope (removing twigs and branches from trees, and cutting thin trunks).

Attention! Do not get carried away with installing saw blades of large diameter and thickness on the trimmer, as this will cause an increase in the load on the gearbox and motor, and possible premature failure. Also, the safety of work with such a tool will decrease, which should not be allowed in any case.

How to attach a saw blade to a trimmer

The main working bodies of any trimmer are a line spool or a special disc (plastic or metal). A plastic knife, like a fishing line, can mow green grassy plants, with a metal knife. dry grass, reeds and even shrubs. Is it possible to increase the functionality of the trimmer by installing a saw blade on it?

Saw blade selection

We choose a TST series diamond blade designed for working with wood and plywood, with the following main characteristics:

    outer diameter at the tops of the teeth. 216 mm;

bore hole. 30 mm;

  • number of teeth. 48.
  • The set includes three rings with the same outer (30 mm), but different inner diameters, that is, they differ from each other in width. These rings are designed to compensate for the difference between the bore of the saw blade and the counterpart on the larger diameter pressure washer.

    TRIMMER (ELECTROCUT, MOTORCUT, PETROL CUTTER, GRASS MILL): HOW TO CHOOSE?

    The market for gardening equipment offers a wide range of tools designed for mowing grass. Among them are lawn mowers and trimmers. These units are designed to perform a common task. to mow the grass, however, each of them has its own specifics, which must be taken into account when choosing the machine you need.

    It should be borne in mind that very often different manufacturers use different terms to refer to the same instrument. The trimmer is often called a brushcutter, a petrol cutter (if the trimmer is gasoline) or an electric trimmer (if the trimmer is electric). Also, the term “lawn mower” is often used.

    The trimmer (electric or brushcutter) is the only right solution for mowing grass where the wheeled lawnmower is difficult to access, such as around bushes, trees, paths, fences and walls. Trimmers are also indispensable on terrain with steep slopes.

    So which trimmer should you choose? What characteristics should you pay attention to first of all??

    Trimmer device

    Two-stroke engines are often installed on gasoline braids, into which a mixture of gasoline and oil in a ratio of 32: 1 (for mineral oil) and 50: 1 (for synthetic oil) is poured into them, using AI-92 non-ethyl gasoline. Two-stroke trimmers have the advantage of being lightweight.

    In addition to two-stroke trimmers, there are four-stroke engine models in which oil and gasoline are filled separately. 4-stroke trimmers generally run quieter than 2-stroke scythes.

    • Cutting head.

    It is also important which cutting head the trimmer is equipped with. This can be a cutting line or a metal (plastic) knife. Some models have a line and a knife in one set.

    It is recommended to use trimmers with a cutting line if there are a lot of trees, bushes, stones in the cultivated area. This is because the knives can damage trees or be seriously damaged by bumping into a stone or other solid object. Metal (plastic) knives, in turn, allow you to mow tough, tall grass and bushes. At the same time, the cutting width of trimmers with metal knives is usually less than that of trimmers with a line, the cutting diameter of which can be up to 40 cm. The most versatile option is a trimmer equipped with both knives and a line. The presence of such a trimmer will allow you to change the cutting head depending on the characteristics of the area that you plan to process.

    Trimmers can be divided into those with a straight shaft with a gearbox and those with a curved shaft. The differences between these types of trimmers are not only in appearance. The absence of a straight shaft with a gearbox means that the cutting head is driven not by a straight metal rod, but by a steel cable. This mechanism is less reliable than a straight bar braid. Curved shaft usually have low power trimmers equipped with line. This is due to the fact that in order to set the knives in motion, more power is required, while the cable begins to spring under heavy load. For this reason, high-performance models most often have a straight shaft with a gearbox.

    • Handle type.

    Trimmer handles are of three types:

    • T. shaped. The T-handle is convenient for working in open areas, and the movement you make will be similar to that of a conventional mowing. These trimmers are powerful and designed for large jobs in open areas.
    • J. shaped. If you have to work on areas overgrown with tall grass, look out for the J-handle models. The J-handle prevents the operator from approaching the bevel gear. J. Shaped handle should be attached when the metal cutter is mounted on the trimmer.
    • Q. shaped.
    • D. shaped. The D. handle is handy for small jobs where more maneuverability is required, such as shrubs, trees, paths and hedges. A line is best for this.
    • Connectors for nozzles

    A number of manufacturers produce trimmers with a split bar, with which you can connect attachments. This gives you a scythe that can be turned into a cultivator, snow blower, lopper or brush cutter. The ability to connect attachments is not the only advantage that the connector provides. Such a trimmer is more convenient to wash, in addition, the disassembled braid fits in the trunk of any car.

    When choosing a trimmer with the ability to attach attachments, one should not forget that almost always attachments are not universal, that is, only attachments produced by the same manufacturer can be installed on branded trimmers.

    Electric or gasoline trimmer?

    Electric trimmer can be used when working in a small area located near a house or building where there is source of electricity.

    The advantages of an electric trimmer include:

    • low noise level,
    • easy start,
    • harmless to the environment,
    • relatively low weight,
    • no need to worry about refueling.

    Among the disadvantages are:

    • dependence on power supply,
    • limited freedom of movement,
    • less power than a petrol trimmer.

    Model Trimmer General Maintenance

    Electric trimmers are of two types:

    • with a lower engine. Bottom trimmers are designed for regularly trimmed lawn grass that is softer than normal. Bottom engine trimmers are lightweight (up to 2 kg) and power (200 to 650 W). Due to poor cooling, their engine has a short continuous life. no more than 10-15 minutes. Therefore, in order to exclude engine failure, it is necessary to reduce the time of its continuous operation and increase the rest time. In addition, such trimmers are prohibited from cutting wet grass, in order to avoid moisture penetration into the engine.
    • top engine. Top engine trimmers are more powerful (600 to 1000 watts), allowing them to mow with confidence in virtually any grass. Therefore, these trimmers are often called electric trimmers. Since their engine is located on top, it is not afraid of moisture and can work under any conditions.

    Cheap models of electric brace are designed, on average, for 25 minutes of continuous operation. serious, and accordingly more expensive, models have an engine overload protection system. Therefore, you can work with them without thinking about motor overheating. if necessary, it will shut down on its own.

    Gasoline trimmers. their main advantages are high power and high performance. These characteristics are significant arguments when it comes to cultivating a large area with tough, tall grass. It is also important that petrol trimmers do not have an electric cable, and, therefore, have more freedom of movement. Due to these factors, petrol trimmers are the only option when the area to be treated is far from power sources. Of the disadvantages of gasoline trimmers, the most significant are the high level of vibration and noise during operation, high weight, the need for regular refueling.

    How to choose a trimmer?

    Summing up, we can say that there is no single ideal model that fits all conditions. This is due to the variety of characteristics that different areas have. Therefore, before deciding on a specific model, try to clarify for yourself what the area you are going to care for, what grass grows on it, how many fruit trees, bushes, flower beds are on it. It matters how often you mow the grass, what physical strength you have. Only taking into account your individual conditions, you can make the right choice.

    It is always necessary to remember not only about your own safety, but also the safety of others, pets, trees and shrubs in your garden, as well as the trimmer itself (petrol cutters).
    Obviously, the first step is to read the instructions carefully BEFORE you start using the oblique. When using the trimmer or brushcutter, clothing and shoes should be covered and tight enough. Be sure to buy special safety glasses. Despite the fact that most of the cut grass does not get into you, one unsuccessfully flown inflorescence is enough to cause significant eye injury.

    When a trimmer or electric trimmer is working, it should be thought out in advance how and where the extension cord will lie, and do not forget where it lies. The cable should be of a bright, clearly visible color in the grass, so as not to accidentally damage it. If the trimmer has a long cord, it can damage or jam the plants in your garden. To avoid this, drive posts in the corners of the beds. Watch out for children and animals, they may be interested in the twitching wire in the grass. When the electric trimmer works. serious requirements for shoes: only rubber shoes, even in dry weather.

    When using a trimmer or brushcutter, the trimmer line can damage the trunks of fruit trees and shrubs in your garden. To avoid this, you can put protection on the tree trunks before the trimmer starts working. plastic rings cut from a plastic bottle. This trick is guaranteed to protect trees from damage, and mowing from headaches for their safety.

    Remember that the trimmer is a petrol cutter. high-risk tool.

    Technological progress does not stand still, and such an important thing for anyone with a piece of land, like mowing grass, has long been mechanized. Gone are the days when, to bring your garden or vegetable garden into a divine form, you had to crawl on all fours with a sickle and wave a scythe, fearing to mow a painstakingly grown bush. Now there is another problem. how to choose the right one from a wide variety of tools for cutting grass. This is what we will figure out now.

    First, let’s define the names. Individual mechanized mowing of grass in Belarus is a fairly new business, many terms are either not familiar, or are used in different ways, so first I will tell you a little about more or less well-established names.

    A lawn mower is sometimes called any device for mowing grass. But usually this term refers to a family of lawn mowers made in the form of a trolley.

    Trimmers are a not entirely successful, but widely used, name for a motorized mowing device that must be held in hand when working. It is unsuccessful because trimmers are also called trimmers from the heels of different devices that are not similar to each other.

    Therefore, now more and more often, manual lawn mowers are called, depending on the engine used, electric and motorcycle mowers. Sometimes trimmers are referred to as motorized devices with a lower engine location, and devices with an engine at the top are called scythes.

    In short: a lawn mower is a trolley-style lawn mowing machine. The moto and electric scythe is a manual motorized device for mowing grass. Trimmer is the generic name for any hand-held motorized braids or, sometimes (more and more recently), under-engine braids.

    For the sake of fairness, let’s say that in English and other European languages, hand-held mowers equipped with an engine often have even more names.

    So, we have more or less decided on the terms, we pass to the choice. We are faced with the task of choosing a mower for our site. I will say right away that all motorized individual scythes and mowers are not suitable for harvesting hay for livestock feed. Therefore, we do not consider them in this capacity.

    Also, we still have few areas with extensive lawns, which means that we do not need a lawn mower with a cart either. For a vegetable garden and a garden on an ordinary 6 acres, a trimmer (motorized scythe) is most suitable. It is convenient for them both to mow a small lawn, and to destroy weeds near the fence, on paths between greenhouses or fenced beds, cut grass in the garden between trees and bushes. Here are the trimmers and we will choose.

    The first thing to decide. what to take, moto or electric kosu? The brushcutter is equipped with an internal combustion engine and is therefore autonomous. Most brushcutters are more powerful than electric ones, but they are also more expensive. Plus to this, or rather in the minus, the gasoline engine is noisier, it needs to be constantly refueled with a gasoline-oil mixture and sometimes you will have to breathe exhaust gases.

    Considering all these disadvantages, the brushcutter should be taken only when it is not possible to connect to electricity. Which is quite rare in modern conditions. The electric trimmer has one drawback. it is tied to the outlet with a wire, which, especially at first, gets underfoot and interferes with mowing. But over time, you get used to mechanically removing the cable stretching behind the electric cable, and it does not cause problems.

    So, in terms of the combination of pros and cons, an electric scythe is more convenient. We choose her.

    Next, we determine the trimmer parameters. The main parameter to which, first of all, you need to pay attention is power. Electric trimmers range in power from 200 to 1400 watts.

    Naturally, the more powerful the electric scythe, the better. But also more expensive. Therefore, we choose based on our needs. Although there is not much to choose. Cheap 200-300 Watt trimmers are only suitable for trimming the soft grass lawn in the front garden. And most of us have plots of 6 or more acres with weeds and the first rudiments of lawns hardened in many years of struggle for life, so something more powerful is required.

    The power also affects the time spent mowing and the frequency of use of the mower. Everything is directly proportional here. less power, mow longer, even soft grass. Also, if you, having gone on a business trip, are a week late with mowing, some weeds will have time to acquire thick stiff stalks that a low-power trimmer can no longer cope with.

    Well, plus the heating of the engine, a weak motor will overheat faster. Therefore, firstly, it will be necessary to take breaks in operation (the lower the power, the longer and more often), and secondly, the risk of engine failure as a result of overheating increases significantly.
    Hence, the most acceptable, in terms of power and price, will be 1000-watt models.

    So, we also decided on the power. Move on.

    As you probably already noticed, when you are interested in trimmers, the bar is straight and curved. Which one to choose? The curved one is a little more comfortable, but it’s not just about the appearance. For trimmers with a curved design, the rotation of the engine is transmitted to the cutting head by a steel cable, and in a straight bar using a metal rod.

    Naturally, a metal rod is much more reliable and durable. This design allows you to use not only a plastic head with a fishing line as a cutting nozzle, but also a steel cutting disc, with which you can level bushes and easily cut down old weeds with woody stems.

    There are 1000-watt braids on sale with a straight bar, but without the possibility of installing a metal disc. This is most likely because in this trimmer there is not a rod, but a cable.
    This reduces the cost of construction, but, in fact, negates the advantages of a powerful engine and a straight boom. Therefore, do not save on this, but take a model with a circular knife. It will be 100% useful to you.

    It is also worth thinking carefully about purchasing a lower engine trimmer. No matter how tempting its price may seem (due to savings on the transmission mechanism), such a trimmer has a number of disadvantages: low power (up to 600 watts) and an increased risk of moisture entering the motor during operation.

    Although, due to the danger of electric shock, it is not recommended to use any trimmer in wet weather, not only precipitation can enter the engine located at the level of grass growth, but also liquid from too succulent plants.

    We have decided on the design, now we need to decide which company to buy for the electrocosu. There are not so many manufacturers specializing purely in gardening equipment, mainly lawn mowers are made by firms that make benzo and power tools. Therefore, firms that produce good tools, as a rule, make good mowers.

    But do not rely entirely on the brand name of the manufacturer. Sometimes reputable firms have unsuccessful models. As well as vice versa, an electric scythe of a completely unknown brand can serve faithfully for many years. So the choice here is not technical, but emotional.

    Well, let’s go through the secondary parameters. The cutting width of the trimmers varies from 20 to 38 cm and does not play any significant role. or less “normal” electric mows in one pass mow about 30 cm, which is enough, both when fighting weeds on inter-row paths, and for mowing lawns.

    Cordless trimmers are more of a pampering tool than a normal tool. The disadvantages of such a power supply (high cost, heavy weight, low power, the need for recharging) completely negate one single advantage. mobility.

    Folding handle. can be useful if you constantly carry the tool to the country and back, but like any dismountable part, it is less reliable than a solid one.

    What is the best way to mow? Fishing line or knife?

    Many users of such a wonderful device as a trimmer probably thought about,
    how to choose the right “consumables” for him. This, of course, is a fishing line (special for trimmers) and special discs / knives (called differently), which, like the fishing line, perform the function of cutting both grass and small bushes.

    And since there are a lot of options on the market, at the stage of selection, such a problem may arise that you may simply not choose the right line or disc, when the diameter of the line is not suitable for your model of brushcutters or, in general, the disc will have a different landing diameter. So at this stage you need to be careful and careful.

    And to prevent this from happening, you need to view its technical specifications in your garage or somewhere else (where your trimmer is located). This is necessary so that you can immediately decide
    with line thickness or disc shape.

    Also, when choosing a fishing line or trimmer, you should pay attention not only to the characteristics of your trimmer, but also to what exactly you are going to mow. For example: for small shrubs, it is imperative to purchase a disc, since the fishing line will simply crumble on the branches and this will not lead to anything good. And for ordinary mowing of low young grass, a small diameter fishing line is suitable, since it is best to cope with such a situation, as a rule, it is a size of 1.2, 1.6 or 2 mm.

    Discs of various shapes, from the usual circle to three or four-pointed stars, which are made
    directly from special steel (and most often they are covered with diamond shavings on top) so that the disc will serve as long as possible. For example, Klettfix discs fit absolutely any type of trimmer (electric petrol trimmers) and cost around 500 rubles apiece. And as forms and modifications. for every taste.

    Fishing lines. the range of lines is much larger than discs, since the disc can be used many times, and one skein of fishing line is enough only for a small clearing. Lines differ from each other in several factors.

    What diameter should be taken?

    One such factor is diameter. The diameter is different, it also depends on what type of grass you are going to mow. Diameters on the market are from 1.2 to 4 mm. Thin line is used for low power trimmers, most often with an under engine. The classic version. 2mm will fit most petrol and electric models. 2.4 mm. for more powerful ones. You can find out which diameter is right for you from the tool passport. Also, branded manufacturers of different diameters of the line have different colors. Take, for example, Calm. blue 1.6 mm, green. 2 mm, orange. 2.4 mm. It is easier for the buyer to visually determine which line to take. Well, he mowed, for example, he was green, so in the store he says, and the seller knows that you need 2 mm. And the sale took place. From these “babin” we cut off 5, 10, 15 and more meters.

    What is the cord made of?

    The cheapest one is made of ordinary plastic. The range of trimmer lines is updated every day due to high demand. For example the ARNETOLI MOTOR company replenishes its assortment of lines literally every day. And one skein of medium-diameter fishing line costs about 60 rubles. The steeper line contains all sorts of additives for strength, in particular, aluminum particles are added. All this helps to extend the life of the trimmer line. Expensive lines are made of high quality polypropylene, it is flexible and strong at the same time. Such cord serves several times longer than cheap analogs.

    In order for you to clearly understand what sections of the woods are and what they are intended for, here is a useful drawing for you (this is the Shtil brand):

    In addition, you can see squares twisted in cross-section, triangles, even there are special notches on the fishing line. all this is done to increase the efficiency of “mowing”. However, it is far from a fact that the most expensive line will cope with your task.

    However, the nuances of the section are such that a different type is intended for its own specific task. Take, for example, a lawn. the grass is young, it only needs to be cut down, and not cut down clean. And it is important for us that it continues to grow. Therefore, you will need to cut off the top carefully and cleanly. The so-called “star” ideally “shaves” the top of the lawn. Whereas the square one is intended purely for shock loads. chopping down strong weed stems.

    So, we have already figured out the types of lines and disks. Now you need to figure out what is better to buy, a fishing line or a disk. To do this, first you need to decide what exactly you are going to mow. For example, if a very tough weed grows in your yard, then either a very thick fishing line or a disk of any shape will suit you (the shape of the disk affects absolutely nothing).

    How to reel fishing line?

    Many people simply do not know how to wind a line on a drum and therefore prefer a disc to a line. But in fact, if you get used to it correctly, you can reel in the fishing line in a matter of seconds. In fact, there is nothing complicated here, do it a couple of times and then it will go like clockwork.

    Here is a video that clearly shows the whole process of winding the line on the trimmer spool:

    And here is help with text:

    • So, in order to wind the line on the drum, you first need to open this very drum. And this is done like this: first, you need to find a special mount on the drum. It usually looks like a rectangle on newer models.
    • Now you need to lightly press on this rectangle and at the same time scroll it counterclockwise.
    • After that, you need to take a special coil that is inside and find a small depression in the form of a loop (it is located in the middle of the coil). And then you need to take a certain length of the fishing line and fold it in two (for example, if you put 5 meters, then bend in the middle, you get 2 ends of 2.5 meters each).
    • Now this loop needs to be inserted into the loop on the spool and winding it evenly. And when the fishing line is already wound on this reel, now you need to start closing the drum. To do this, insert a spool with wound line and insert into one side of the drum.
    • Then pass the ends of the line through the special holes and close the drum. Everything, you can assume that your drum is ready to go.

    And to put on a disc. you don’t need to suffer for a long time, all you need to do is put the disc on the nut onto which the drum is screwed and press down with a washer from above. And after that, tighten the nut, but not clockwise, but counterclockwise, since on all trimmer models the thread on the bolt is cut in the other direction. It is not recommended to tighten too much, because by default the thread goes “for tightening”, as on the grinder.
