How to reset a saw on a Renault Logan

Replacing spark plugs and high voltage wires

Spark plugs in a car are the main parts for igniting the fuel mixture. With faulty spark plugs, the spark is incorrectly supplied to ignite the gasoline mixture. In faulty spark plugs, there is often a lack of spark or an incorrect spark interval, which affects the improper operation of the engine. If the spark plugs do not work properly during acceleration, especially from a standstill, you may feel small jolts. What are the reasons for the failure of spark plugs: Most spark plugs in cars made before 1996 need to be replaced every 25,000-30,000 kilometers. In newer cars, spark plugs last over 150,000 km. However, various factors related to fuel quality and driving style can reduce these spark plug replacement times.

What needs to be done: If your spark plugs have not changed for a long time, or if you feel dips associated with ignition in the engine, then you must immediately replace them with new ones without delay. Do not try to save on untimely replacement of spark plugs, as the cost of spark plugs is not very expensive, as is the work of replacing them. Replacing old spark plugs will improve engine performance and reduce vehicle fuel consumption. Replacing spark plugs yourself is easy enough. Mostly they are easily accessible under the hood of the car. You need a regular spark plug wrench to remove the spark plugs from the engine. It is also advisable to monitor the condition of high-voltage wires, as over time they can become unusable and pass electricity that is transmitted to the spark plugs, which will reduce the force of the spark.

[attention type = yellow] Regular replacement of spark plugs, in accordance with your car’s maintenance schedule, keeps your exhaust catalyst from damage and also improves engine performance!

Car Exhaust Catalyst

The car catalyst helps the car to make the exhaust gas from the engine more environmentally friendly. It converts carbon monoxide and other harmful substances into harmless compounds. If your exhaust gas catalyst has become unusable, you will notice this not only when the engine badge (check) appears, but also long before that, when the car’s power drops by 2 times. For example, when you press the gas pedal, the car, as before, will not have good acceleration dynamics. Because of what the automobile catalyst may fail: if you regularly service your car, in accordance with the maintenance regulations of the automobile company, then the catalyst should not fail. The main reason for the failure of the catalyst is the untimely replacement of a faulty oxygen sensor, as well as irregular replacement of spark plugs at the end of the expiration date. When the oxygen sensor or spark plugs are faulty, the conversion of carbon monoxide in the catalyst into harmless chemical elements stops, which leads to overheating of the catalyst, which may fail due to this.

What needs to be done: If your catalyst has become unusable, then you cannot drive the car, since the engine will not work correctly, warning about this by the indication on the dashboard with the engine icon (check). Also, your fuel consumption will be greatly increased, and there will be no engine thrust. Although replacing a catalyst is a very expensive repair, there is nowhere to go from repairs. Although there is an alternative to replacing the catalyst with a flame arrester, this is not a 100 percent option. Unfortunately, if you are not an experienced auto mechanic, then you cannot replace a faulty exhaust gas catalyst yourself. In any case, you will have to go to a car repair shop.

[attention type = yellow] Timely replacement of oxygen sensors and spark plugs protects your catalyst from damage!

Why does the engine check light up??

A burning Chek Engin light bulb indicates a variety of problems in the operation of the engine. Most often, Logan‘s owners are faced with such ones as:

  • poor fuel quality / fuel tank leaks
  • the fuel pump is broken, the fuel filter is clogged
  • insufficient engine oil level
  • faulty spark plugs
  • the lambda probe is out of order
  • the mass air flow sensor DMRV is out of order
  • the exhaust gas catalyst is out of order

Replace the oxygen sensor (lambda probe)

The oxygen sensor in your car is part of the exhaust gas system that monitors how much oxygen is not burned out in the engine’s combustion chamber. This sensor helps to monitor the fuel consumption of the vehicle. A malfunctioning oxygen sensor (lambda probe) means that the car computer receives incorrect data, which can significantly increase fuel consumption and reduce engine power. Most cars have 2 to 4 oxygen sensors. If you have a home car error scanner, then by connecting it to the car, you can easily find out which sensor needs to be replaced. For what reason the oxygen sensor in the car becomes unusable: Over time, the sensor becomes covered with a layer of used and engine oil (oily soot), which reduces the accuracy of reading the sensor readings to regulate the gasoline mixture and distribute the optimal fuel consumption. A malfunction of the oxygen sensor in a car leads not only to increased fuel consumption, but also to an increased content of harmful substances CO2 in the exhaust.

What you need to do: If you do not replace a faulty car oxygen sensor, this can lead to failure of your car’s catalyst (may burst), which will result in costly repairs So do not delay replacing the sensor. Although the replacement of the sensor and its cost is not very small, it is not commensurate with the cost of the exhaust gas neutralizer system. You can also save on replacement costs by doing it yourself. Many car manuals have detailed instructions on how to replace the oxygen sensor yourself. If you know where the oxygen sensor is, then it will not be difficult for you to disconnect the faulty “lambda probe” and replace it with a new one. Remember that you cannot pull to replace this important element.!

Check the fuel filler cap

Many drivers in most cases, when the “check engine” indication appears, will think about serious problems in the car’s engine, but will not even think to check the tightness of the fuel system, which can be broken due to a defect or insufficiently tightened fuel filler cap. This is a very common reason for the “Check” engine badge.

Cause of the error: Leakage of the fuel system due to the passage of air, the fuel filler cap, will increase the fuel consumption of the car, for which the car diagnostic system will give an engine error by turning on the “Check engine” indication on the dashboard of the car.

What needs to be done: If, when the “Check” indication appears, your car has not lost power, and there are no sound signs of engine damage (knocking in the engine, hum, creaking, etc.), then first of all check the tightness of the gas tank. Your gas cap may be cracked or not tight enough. If the cover was not tight enough, then after tightening it all the way, continue driving the car for a while to see if the engine error disappears. To prevent the appearance of an engine check for this reason, regularly check the fuel filler cap.

[attention type = yellow] Periodically, the cover needs to be replaced with a new one. [/ attention]

Replace MAF sensor

The mass air flow sensor regulates how much air must be added to the gasoline mixture to optimally ignite the fuel. The sensor continuously informs the vehicle computer of the amount of oxygen supplied. A defective MAF sensor will increase fuel consumption, increase CO2 levels in the exhaust gas, and reduce engine power and ride smoothness. Also, with a faulty sensor, poor acceleration dynamics is observed. In cold weather, a car with a faulty sensor does not start well.

What are the reasons for the failure of the mass air flow sensor: Most sensor failures occur due to improper installation of the air filter during its scheduled replacement. Also, if you do not regularly change the air filter, as required by the vehicle maintenance schedule recommended by the manufacturer, the MAF sensor may fail.

What to do: In theory, you can drive for a long time with a broken MAF sensor (several weeks or months). But you will notice that the longer you drive, the more fuel consumption increases. Replacing a sensor in a car service is not that expensive, since the work itself does not take much time and is quite simple. The main costs are associated with, if it is an original sensor or up to 6000 rubles, if an analog substitute. Replacing the sensor yourself is very easy. But due to the low cost of work on replacing the sensor, you can entrust this work to a master in a car service.

[attention type = yellow] it is necessary to regularly change the air filter, observing the maintenance regulations of the car.

What to do if Check Engine lights up

As soon as the Renault owner sees a “check” on his dashboard, while the car is in motion, he must stop as quickly as possible, and also listen to the engine.

  • If no suspicious sounds are found, you can start inspecting the car.
  • If at the same time as the Check Engine lights up, you hear noise, hum, knocking and other extraneous sounds under the hood, the engine troit and loses power. stop as soon as possible and call a tow truck. Attempting to continue driving in this case will result in engine damage.

In any case, the appearance of the “check” indicator should be taken very carefully. Disconnecting the battery or throwing off the terminal so that the icon goes out, and continue driving is not an option. It is necessary to understand the essence of the problem, replace the failed elements and sensors, and not blame everything on “electronics failures”. However, experienced owners can perform a number of diagnostics and even fix them on their own.

Engine check on Renault Logan is on: reasons how to remove the indicator

The problem of tanning the Check engine icon appears in many Renault Logan owners. We will tell you about the 5 most common reasons why the engine check on the dashboard lights up.

reset, renault, logan

The engine gauge icon usually appears without warning. The reason for the appearance of the Check engine cannot be immediately understood. Even if there is auto diagnostics in the car (for example, in such cars as BMW, Audi, Porshe, Mercedes-Benz, VW), which scans all systems of the car for errors and, if any, displays a decryption on the information panel, the reasons for the appearance of the engine check will not be decrypted. For most drivers, the appearance of this warning symbol on the dashboard means that they urgently need to go to a car workshop to diagnose and eliminate the reason for which the warning sign “Engine check” appeared. But in fact, in most cases, when the “Check” indication appears, you can independently diagnose the cause of engine failure and in some cases, perhaps eliminate the cause yourself without a trip to a car service, which will save your money.

How to replace a stove light bulb

In addition to the listed problems, the heater can cause other inconveniences associated with the lack of backlighting when the heating device is turned on. As a rule, the problem lies in a burnt out light bulb, which will not be difficult to replace. For this:

  • Removing the cover of the radio.
  • To dismantle the gray panel, carefully lift it with a screwdriver.

To remove the gray panel, pry it with a screwdriver

One of the steps to replacing light bulbs is to dismantle the stove controls.

The plate with the badges is fastened with latches: gently squeeze them out

The backlight lamp is located under the control panel: bend it and remove the lighting element

After installing a new light bulb, we assemble in the reverse order.

Location and replacement of the Renault Logan stove resistor

The heater resistor on Renault Logan is located near the electric motor, in the back of its body, that is, under the panel on the driver’s side. The resistor is a white connector with a resistor located to which a harness with wires is connected.

The fuser resistor is located at the bottom of the pedal assembly on the right side

How can you tell if a resistor is out of order? In most cases, the part simply burns out. The reason may be a dirty fan or a malfunction. It is possible to determine that the resistor is broken by the operation of the motor: the unit will function only at the fourth speed. Let’s now figure out how to replace a burnt out part.

  • Remove the terminal from the negative battery.
  • We find the connector with harnesses and, pressing the latches, disconnect it from the failed element.
  • Using the Torx T-20 wrench, unscrew the two bolts of the resistor.
  • Move the part up and take it out.
  • We replace the resistor with a new one, install it in reverse order.

Dismantling and replacing the Renault Logan stove with your own hands

The stove is an integral part of the heating system of any car. Thanks to this device, comfort is provided inside the vehicle during the cold season. Since the coolant circulates through the radiator of the stove, the air passing through it heats up. Heat is supplied and distributed through the passenger compartment by means of a fan and air ducts. Only if the system is fully operational, it will be warm inside the car, regardless of the weather outside the window.

The reasons for the malfunction of the stove

If it was noticed that the heating efficiency of the interior of your Renault Logan has decreased, do not immediately panic. First you need to understand in detail what the problem is, find out the reasons. Depending on the nature of the malfunction, the interior heater may work poorly or not function at all. Consider the main reasons why the stove is not working properly:

  • An air lock has occurred in the heating system.
  • Broken thermostat.
  • Incorrect pump operation.
  • Stove radiator clogged.
  • Problems with the heater electric motor.

Despite the seeming simplicity of solving these problems, it is they who most often force car owners to engage in self-repair or contact a service.

Why does the Renault Logan stove not heat

One of the common malfunctions in the Renault Logan heating system is the lack of warm air from the deflectors, while the stove pipes remain hot. In addition to the above reasons, the flow of heat into the passenger compartment may be limited due to a clogged cabin filter. Since rather large debris, for example, leaves, gets into the cavity of this element, the filter must be periodically inspected and cleaned.

One of the reasons that the stove pipes are hot, and warm air does not enter the passenger compartment, is the airlock in the system

The common reasons that the stove does not heat include the failure of the resistor or heater fuse. Checking these elements will help to identify their integrity and, if damaged, replace them. If all of the above did not help determine the problem of poor functioning of the stove, check the contacts of the connector through which power is supplied to the fan electric motor.

Diagnosing the motor itself is quite simple. To do this, it is connected directly to the battery, and if the unit is operating at maximum speed, then the reason should be looked for elsewhere, for example, the switch for operating modes of the electric motor. Attention should also be paid to the dampers, due to improper operation, the process of warm air entering the passenger compartment is disrupted. In this case, the problem may be in the cable that controls the damper.

Replacing the radiator of the Renault Logan stove

The need to replace the heater radiator arises in the event of a leak or clogging of the heat exchanger. As a result, the heating system is unable to supply hot air to the passenger compartment. Since the radiator is a non-repairable unit, it is replaced with a new product. The process is as follows:

  • Drain the coolant.
  • In the engine compartment, remove the outlet and inlet pipe by loosening the clamps.

In the engine compartment, we loosen the clamps of the stove pipes and tighten them

To dismantle the radiator more conveniently, remove the central trim on the dashboard

From the steering column, you will need to remove the cover and trim from the instrument cluster

To free the radiator, we unscrew the fasteners of the pipes and the heater itself, squeeze the clamps

What is a stove resistor and what is it for?

If we consider the resistor from the point of view of physics, then this element in the electrical circuit is passive. At the same time, various functions are assigned to it, depending on the tasks set. So, a resistor can not only limit the current, but also play the role of a current-to-voltage converter, or vice versa. In the design of a car heater, an element is used to adjust the speed of rotation of the motor, providing current distribution in such a way that the fan has four speeds.

A resistor is used to adjust the rotation speed of the stove motor

Replacing the motor of the Renault Logan stove

They resort to replacing or repairing the electric motor of the stove when the unit emits extraneous noise or does not work at all. To dismantle the fan, you need a minimum set of tools, which consists of different screwdrivers and a Torx T-20 wrench. To dismantle the motor, you must unscrew the two screws. The procedure is performed in the following sequence:

Remove the seal from the doorway and the lining of the pillars using a screwdriver.

Before starting to dismantle the stove motor, remove the lining of the racks

The torpedo is fastened with two Torx wrench screws, unscrew them

When the fasteners are unscrewed, we pull the panel towards ourselves

We remove the connector from the stove motor and remove the assembly itself

You will need tools and materials

  • antifreeze 5.5 liters;
  • any set of open-end or spanner wrenches;
  • pliers;
  • slotted screwdriver;
  • worm clamps with a diameter of 35. 50 mm. 4 pcs.;
  • a bowl or a cut short plastic canister with a volume of 6 liters for draining bad antifreeze;
  • a plastic funnel, although you can cut a plastic bottle;
  • gloves for car maintenance;
  • rags or rags.

For draining, it is better to place Logan above the viewing pit or drive onto an overpass. If there is such a possibility, which most often happens, then a blanket is placed under the car so that you can lie on it. In this case, do not forget to put on speed, on the handbrake and stops under the wheels of your car.

Allow the engine to cool down before draining the old coolant so that there is no overpressure in the cooling system. While the engine is cooling, you can remove the underside crankcase guard, if present. Then place a container for the used coolant under the drain.

If you have not brought the engine to cool down completely, then it is better to release excess pressure by opening the cap of the coolant expansion tank. Be careful as excess vapor may escape, which is best not inhaled. Then close the expansion tank cap to reduce the initial flow of slurry when unscrewing the drain hose. After unscrewing this hose, the tank cap must be removed.

How to drain old antifreeze in Renault Logan

There is no drain plug to drain the antifreeze in Renault Logan, so you have to drain it by removing the cooling pipe. We are talking about the lower pipe of the cooling radiator, secured with a clamp.

To open the drain hose clamp, you need to insert a slotted screwdriver into its lock, as shown in the photo (the hose is removed for clarity), and turn the screwdriver.

Advice: if the hoses have “native” disposable clamps from Renault, then it is better to replace them with clamps with a worm gear.

We remove the hose from the radiator pipe and pour everything into a container.

In order for the liquid to run faster when draining, you need to remove the plug from the vertical fitting, which is located on a thick pipe near the thermostat.

Due to the design of the cooling system in Renault Logan, not all of the antifreeze is drained, because part of it remains in the radiator of the interior heater. To drain the antifreeze from there, you need to remove two more hoses from the thermostat and tilt them down. After the residues have flowed out, these hoses can be blown out with air.

You must be careful when blowing through, because the delicate fins of the radiator can bend from the excess pressure. The video shows how to properly drain the coolant yourself.

Preparing to replace antifreeze with Renault Logan

When the liquid becomes dirty and smells harsh and unpleasant, you need to change it. This can happen already at 50-60 thousand run.

The question immediately arises which antifreeze to choose. On this topic, see the test from the Main Road program.

Some of the best brands are Liqui Moly Langzeit GTL12 Plus, SINTEC LUX G12, Felix Carbox G12. You can also pay attention to the companies Shell, Texaco, Total, Lukoil and BASF.

Remember that the color of the coolant does not affect anything, because they are all originally colorless fluids. Making them blue or green is at the discretion of the manufacturer.

We list the tools that will be needed to replace antifreeze with Renault Logan.

How to expel air from the cooling system

  • After tightening the clamps, pouring antifreeze and closing the expansion tank cap, you can try to start the engine. Warm up the engine for a couple of minutes at idle speed to a temperature of about 40 ⁰С and turn off the car.
  • Open the expansion tank cap slowly and carefully to relieve excess pressure. Bleed cooling hoses to release air. If it gurgles in the expansion tank and the level decreases, then add liquid to the middle mark.
  • Then we repeat the warming up of the engine, but already to a temperature of 90 сС with the tank cap closed in order for the air to escape from the interior heater radiator and the cooler entered there. To warm up the engine faster, you can raise its speed with the gas pedal to 2000 rpm. Do not forget to turn off the engine in time so that it does not overheat. This can be done as soon as the cooling fan motor spins.
  • Using rubberized gloves, remove the cap of the expansion tank neck carefully. Caution! The steam is very hot. under 100 ⁰С, so it is better not to try to smell this steam and open the stopper at the same time.
  • Now you can bleed the air from the fitting and add antifreeze as needed. It is better to repeat the procedure of warming up and deflating air 2-3 times and after that you can go. The next day, check the level in the tank, leaving your Logan on level ground.

If you still have questions about purging air from the Logan cooling system, watch a video about this process.

Preparing to fill with coolant

After the antifreeze stops flowing out, it is necessary to put on the hoses new clamps with a worm tightening mechanism and put on the hoses in their original place, after wiping the joints from dust and dirt with a cloth.

After that, you can fill in new fresh coolant.

Since 2009, the Renault plant has been using Glaceol RX Type D as an antifreeze, produced under the ELF brand, which is dyed yellow and obtained from a concentrate diluted with distilled water in a 1: 1 ratio. It is recommended for use in Renault Logan with 1.4 liter or 1.6 liter engines.

If your Renault Logan has problems with engine cooling, then the first under suspicion is a thermostat. Which company to put the thermostat to choose for Logan, see the video.

How to properly pour antifreeze into Renault Logan

It is better to fill the expansion tank with a plastic funnel. In this case, the lower drain hose of the cooling system must be removed and wait for the coolant to pour out of it. Remember. there is no need to rush when filling the coolant. pause and pump excess air in the hoses by pressing on them.

When liquid flows from the lower hose, you need to close the neck of the expansion tank to stop the flow. Next, you need to put the hose back in place and tighten it with a clamp. After that, add coolant to the expansion tank up to the MAX mark on the tank. The next step is to bleed air from the coolant hoses. It is recommended to carry out the following procedures.

How to replace antifreeze with Renault Logan

Hello everyone! Today we’ll talk about how to replace antifreeze with Renault Logan. Let’s say right away that the replacement of the coolant is recommended for Renault Logan and Sandero after 3 years from the previous replacement or after 90 thousand kilometers on the odometer. Some articles contain information that it is necessary to change the coolant after 6 years, but we understand that in our harsh operating conditions (hot or cold) and assemblies in dusty workshops, it will be good to carry out the replacement as early as possible.

Renault Logan insulation or how to close a decorative radiator grill: an overview of branded and home solutions

Evaluation of the effectiveness of the event

In fact, drivers report a decrease in average fuel consumption and an improvement in internal combustion engine throttle response in cold weather. But not because of this revision is being started. The main goal is to improve the heat transfer of the heater, especially on the highway. The result is. it gets warmer.

In order not to be unfounded, we will give a real measurement. The experimental conditions are as follows:

  • Ambient temperature:.16-18 ° C.
  • The car is parked in the open area all night.
  • After starting the engine, the heater is switched on to the maximum thermal mode, the rotation speed is 2.

Before closing the radiator for the winter on Renault Logan, we will measure the temperature of the coolant using the following technology:

  • Initial temperature.
  • 10 minutes after idling.
  • After 13 minutes (of which 10 minutes. warming up at XX, 3 minutes. a trip at speeds not higher than 2,500 rpm).
  • After 20 minutes (10 minutes. warming up at idle, 10 minutes. movement).

Similarly, let us estimate the dynamics of temperature change in a sheathed car after another night of inactivity. We use the ELM 327 Bluetooth adapter for OBDII and one of the universal diagnostic applications for Android as measuring equipment. The measurement results are entered in the table.

After 13 minutes (movement), ° C

The effect of limiting the cool air blowing to the engine is only in motion. At idle, no noticeable improvement is observed, as expected. On average, an insulated motor warms up 2-2.5 times faster.

For your information. You can evaluate the thermal state of the cooling unit using one of the Multitronics on-board computer models.. installed instead of the air duct.

An assessment of the opinions of the owners of non-insulated cars shows that it is better to close the lower and upper radiator grilles on Renault Logan with the arrival of winter. Otherwise, a noticeable lack of heat in the passenger compartment occurs already at 20 ° C. The critical stage of discomfort occurs at 30 ° C, when the heater is blowing warm air at maximum temperature.

Anatoly M. from Novosibirsk took emergency measures for insulation at 35 ° C and confirmed the theoretical premises in practice:

“At 70 km / h there is the maximum temperature of the stove and the third speed of the fan. it’s corny inside it’s cold, and instead of three sticks there are two on the display. This was before insulation at 35 ° C. After I closed the lower part and the upper slots in the cabin, it became “Tashkent”, and this is with the heat regulator reduced by two divisions from MAX and the second duichik speed. In general, the effect is obvious “.

It has been noticed that even at 0 ° C, the closed bottom helps to stabilize the operating temperature of the motor outside the city. So when driving at a speed of 110-120 km / h, the coolant reaches 84-85 ° C. With lower bumper covered. stable at 90 ° C.

We work with a radiator

If real frosts are raging in your district (below 30 C °), then you can use the “folk remedy”. To make insulation, you need to do the following steps:

  • A suitable cardboard is cut out.
  • A fireproof tarpaulin is installed below.
  • Felt is placed on top of the grate.
  • In this case, it is important that the hood is covered with plex.

You can also purchase ready-made material, which is popularly called “muzzle”. The method described above is used in the North, where temperatures below 30 ° C are common. For the middle lane Vast enough and ready-made materials.

Assumptions

Covering the grille leads to partial or complete absence of air cooling of the engine. If this is unacceptable in summer, then in winter it gives a tangible result:

  • Engine reaches operating temperature faster while driving.
  • Reduced warm-up time when traveling short distances.
  • High speeds do not disturb the working thermal equilibrium of the motor.

Factory offers

You can quickly and cheaply close the main radiator for the winter on Renault Logan using the plug of the lower bumper window. The accessory is simple. a single piece of plastic with holes for fasteners. The docking is tight, without gaps; fastening is carried out with black ties.

On the Renault Logan II, a similar damper has also been developed and is commercially available. Since the architecture of the underside of the bumper is complex, the trim is divided into two parts. An aesthetically acceptable and technically effective accessory is a synthetic mask from Tammers. Available for models from 2010 onwards. Quick-release fasteners, top and bottom closures. Of the minuses.

With your own hands

A branded product is not a competitor to a personal design idea. Costs can be reduced or eliminated altogether if there are leftover building materials. Without prioritizing material values, getting a real masterpiece from ordinary things is a matter of time. The source of inspiration in this regard is pictures or expanded material, how and how to close the radiator of any car for the winter.

Is it necessary to close the radiator of the cooling system for the winter on Renault Logan: theory and facts

The opposition side insists on its own point: a working thermostat is a guarantee of a warm atmosphere in the cooling system and comfort in the cabin, in other words. do not interfere with the engine. Opponents of cardboard boxes proceed from the fact that when heated, the liquid circulates in a small circle and there is no need to insulate the heat exchanger. The mistake is that not one radiator device is subject to thermal insulation, but the entire engine compartment.

Verdict

Cover completely or close the bottom of the Renault Logan radiator for the winter will not hurt. Afraid of overheating. do not close the upper grill 100%, there will certainly be no harm. Optimum temperature for carrying the cover when traveling around town:.10 ° C.

Plastic caps or synthetic masks can help limit the amount of air cooling. This is from proprietary funds. A competitive home-made design can be created on the basis of artificial leather or raincoat fabric, and if aesthetics are not at all interested, then you can cope in 5 minutes using isolon or linoleum. Lovers of felt materials should be warned. the material absorbs road reagents, fuels and lubricants and is prone to ignition.

How to reset the service interval yourself

If there was a single step-by-step instruction for resetting the service interval for all cars, it would look something like this:

  • Switch off ignition.
  • Press the corresponding button.
  • Switch on ignition.
  • Hold / Press the button.
  • Wait until the interval is reset.

This is the general order of actions, it does not give specifics. To find out exactly what needs to be done on a particular car, you can search for it in the list below.

Illustration for the VAG-COM program

Service interval reset

The service interval is the period of time between servicing the vehicle. That is, between the change of oil, fluids (brake, cooling, power steering) and so on. At the official service stations, after these works, the specialists themselves reset the counter.

There is nothing wrong with the fact that the “service” caught fire, in principle, no. In fact, this is a reminder to replace consumables. Often such maintenance is done independently, without involving the services of service centers. But after the maintenance procedure itself is completed, the question remains how to reset the service interval?

The service interval is reset by manipulating the dashboard, battery terminals and the ignition switch. These manipulations may vary depending on the make and model of the vehicle. As a rule, the procedure is reduced to the following sequence.

Service interval reset with VAG-COM

The adapter connects to the laptop via the supplied cable. The software may differ depending on the hardware version. Older versions have been partially Russified. The Russian-language version of the program is called “Vasya Diagnost”. The work with the device must be performed according to the available instructions, however, the approximate algorithm will be as follows:

Сброс сервисного интервала на автомобилях Рено, логан 2, Сандеро, Сандеро Степвей, Дастер

  • Connect the adapter with a lanyard to your computer or laptop. Install bundled software.
  • Connect the adapter to the vehicle. For this, the latter has a special socket where diagnostic equipment is connected. As a rule, it is located somewhere under the dashboard or steering column.
  • Switch on the ignition or start the engine.
  • Run the corresponding VCDS software on the computer, then go to its “Settings” menu and select the “Test” button. If all is well, then you will see a window with information that there is a connection between the car’s ECU and the adapter.
  • Further, the diagnostics are carried out in accordance with the needs of the driver and the capabilities of the program. You can read detailed information about them in the attached instructions.

Below is an algorithm for resetting the service interval using the example of a Volkswagen Golf from 2001 and later. To do this, you need to go to the adaptation mode of the dashboard, and change the values of the corresponding channels. In this case, we are talking about channels from 40 to 45. The sequence of their change will be as follows: 45. 42. 43. 44. 40. 41. It may also be necessary to correct channels 46, 47 and 48 if Longlife is enabled. Connecting and launching the program was described above, so below we give you an algorithm for working directly with the software.

  • We go to the “Select control unit”.
  • We select the controller “17. Instrument cluster”.
  • We go to the block “10. Adaptation”.
  • Select channel 45 “Oil grade” and set the desired value. Click “Test” then “Save” (although you can not click the “Test” button).
  • Enter the value 1. if regular oil without LongLife.
  • Enter the value 2. if using oil for LongLife gasoline engines.
  • Enter the value 4. if using LongLife diesel engine oil.
  • Next, select the channel. 42 “Minimum mileage to service (TO)” and set the desired value. Click “Test” then “Save”.
  • The step with which the distance is set is: 00001 = 1000 km (that is, 00010 = 10000 km). For engines with LongLife, the mileage must be set to 15,000 km. If there is no Longlife, then it is better to set 10,000 km.
  • Next, select channel. 43 “Maximum mileage to service (TO)” and set the desired value. Click “Test” then “Save”.
  • The step with which the distance is set is: 00001 = 1000 km (that is, 00010 = 10000 km).
  • For engines with LongLife: 30,000 km. for gasoline engines, 50,000 km. for 4-cylinder diesel engines, 35,000 km. for 6-cylinder diesel engines.
  • For engines without LongLife, you must set the same value that you set in the previous channel 42 (in our case, this is 10,000 km).
  • We select the channel. 44 “Maximum time to service (TO)” and set the desired value. Click “Test” then “Save”.
  • The setting step is: 00001 = 1 day (that is, 00365 = 365 days).
  • For engines with LongLife, the value should be 2 years (730 days). And for engines without LongLife. 1 year (365 days).
  • Channel. 40 “Mileage after service (TO)”. If, for example, you have done MOT, and the counter has not been reset. You can specify how many kilometers you traveled after maintenance. We set the desired value. Click “Test” then “Save”.
  • The step is 1 = 100 km.
  • Channel. 41 “Time after service (TO)”. Same thing only in days. Step is 1 = 1 day.
  • Channel. 46. For petrol engines only! Total consumption. The value is used to calculate the longlife interval. Standard value: 00936.
  • Channel. 47. For diesel engines only! The amount of soot in the oil per 100 km. The value is used to calculate the LongLife interval. Standard value: 00400.
  • Channel. 48. For diesel engines only! Engine temperature load. The value is used to calculate the LongLife interval. Standard value: 00500.
