The Brushcutter Will Not Start Hot
How not to get confused if a petrol cutter does not start A braid does not start in a harvest. Troubleshooting and remedies. Do-it-yourself repairs and in specialized centers. Instrument operating rules.
All the reasons why the petrol cutter does not start can be classified according to the specifics of the operation of individual units. In the service center, faults are classified:
- Engine malfunction (piston wear, bearing malfunction, crankcase crack);
- A malfunction in the supply of the fuel mixture, clogged pores of the air filter or a malfunction of the carburetor;
- The ignition system does not work;
- Mechanical malfunction, leaking hoses, broken wires under the braid, ruptured tubes.
The user first needs to check if there is fuel in the tank. Start up in accordance with the instructions with the saw on its side. Set the air damper to the closed position, pump up fuel, turn on the ignition and make 3-4 sharp jerks with the starter. If the engine is running, open the air damper. The petrol cutter does not start, repeat the operations with the air damper slightly open.
If the launch fails, we start looking for the reason for the failure:
- Check fuel quality;
- Make sure that the candle is working and the candle channel is clean;
- Check the cleanliness of the air filter;
- Make sure the fuel filter is not clogged;
- Check the cleanliness of the breather;
- Clean the outlet.
Complex causes will be found during the diagnosis of malfunctions leading to overhaul of the carburetor. Such reasons include clogging of the internal channels of the carburetor, wear of the gasket on it and a violation of the tightness of the internal halls with a loss of vacuum. Do-it-yourself petrol brush repair, if it does not start, will require patience.
How not to get confused if the petrol cutter does not start
The tool, despite its small dimensions, is a complex technical device. If you study the operating instructions, it turns out that the reasons why the petrol cutter does not start are known and removable. It is necessary to consistently eliminate the factors that make it difficult to start the tool. Usually start with more accessible nodes with an easy health check.
Adjustment and tuning of the carburetor
Maximum and minimum engine speed, smooth idle speed are controlled by the carburetor. The stable operation of the brushcutter depends on the amount of the supplied combustible mixture and air, their ratio. The petrol cutter will not start if the carburetor adjustment is disturbed. The procedure for adjusting the device for supplying fuel at low speed (L), high speed (H) and idle (T) is regulated by the screws of the same name:
- The chainsaw should work for at least 10 minutes, since the adjustment is carried out hot.
- Screw H is turned smoothly to maximum speed, then turned by ¼, counterclockwise, reducing the speed of rotation of the engine shaft.
- Idling is adjusted with screw T, so that the scythe does not rotate.
- Screw L is adjusted, at first opening the throttle to the maximum, and then smoothly decreasing the speed to stable minimum.
After adjustment, a serviceable carburetor with cleaned filters and a checked ignition must ensure the engine is running. In the event of a carburetor malfunction, after repairing it, you will need to adjust the supply system again before starting the petrol cutter.
Rare breakdowns that impede the operation of petrol cutters can be:
- Rewind spring failure;
- Broken or stuck starter pulley;
- Faulty starter assembly.
The most important malfunction, the elimination of which is associated with replacing the engine, may be the failure of the engine piston group. The cost of repairs will cost about 70% of the cost of the product. To understand the reasons why the petrol cutter does not start will help:
Elimination of the reasons why the petrol cutter will not start
The fuel mixture must be prepared with the exact proportions of gasoline and oil. In this case, you cannot use another brand of fuel. To exclude the ingress of dirt, gasoline must settle in glass or metal containers for 2 days. Do not use plastic utensils for storing fuel. Measure oil accurately with a medical syringe without a needle. Use only freshly prepared mixture, do not leave unused fuel in the tank. If the engine is naughty, the brushcutter stalls, when you press the gas, the fuel may be to blame.
Checking the ignition system, if the petrol cutter does not start, is carried out sequentially:
- Clean the removed candle from carbon and dirt, dry it, set a gap of 1 mm;
- Connect to a high-voltage wire and check for a spark by pulling the starter several times;
- In the absence of a spark, check the high-voltage wire for integrity;
- Replace the candle;
- Dry the candle channel;
- At the same time the operation of the ignition coil is checked, it is faulty if the working plug does not spark.
It is in the event of a malfunction of the ignition coil of the petrol cutter that it does not start up hot, stalls, and works intermittently.
Cleaning or replacing the air and fuel filter will ensure the proper consumption of ingredients entering the carburetor. The air filter can be washed in soapy water or replaced. If nylon fabric is used, it is washed, the porous felt filler is replaced. Change the fuel filter carefully without leaving the intake manifold open. Whether it is necessary to replace the air filter can be determined if the engine starts with the air cleaner removed. Whether it is necessary to change the grid on the fuel supply, if the petrol cutter does not start, a dry candle will tell you.
Breather, gas tank air inlet. If it becomes clogged, a vacuum is created in the tank and the mixture does not enter the carburetor. The hole can be blown out with air or cleaned with a needle. Clean the exhaust duct, remove the anti-spark screen for the muffler.
Taking proper care of your chainsaw
There are no unnecessary phrases in the operating instructions, everything that is offered is aimed at the trouble-free operation of the petrol cutter. Cleaning all parts after each work cycle helps to easily remove uncured residues and dirt. You need to clean only the cooled nodes. This technique contributes to the quality of the air cooling of the engine and gearbox.
For refueling, you must use fuel with the oil recommended in the instructions. If the combustible mixture is left in the fuel tank, the oil will float up and, upon start-up, will land on the damper, impairing its adjustment. The mixture can sediment and clog the fuel supply to the carburetor.
It is impossible, it is dangerous for the tool and the health of the mower, to use a metal cable instead of a fishing line. It cuts more efficiently, but the load on the gearbox and engine increases. A worn-out piece of wire flies at the speed of a bullet when it comes off. Effective mowing can lead to early wear of the engine piston group. For greater cutting efficiency, it is suggested to use an asterisk line profile.
The petrol cutter will not start, the spark is gone
The loss of a spark entails checking the contacts and the correctness of the gap between them, the conducting wires to the candle and the candle itself.
The way to check the spark is to unscrew the candle, connect a wire to it, put the candle sideways to the engine casing and pull the starter several times as if starting a petrol cutter, while looking at the coal and the contact of the candle, a spark should run between them.
If there is no spark, take a new candle, follow the same procedure, if the spark cannot be traced, then there is a problem in the wire or contacts, it is better to replace them.
The benzokos starts up and stalls. What to do?
1. There is a spark, and everything seems to be normal, but the petrol cutter will not start, in such cases, you should check the air access valve to the fuel tank. A clogged valve leads to the creation of a vacuum in the tank, in which the carburetor does not receive enough gasoline, so the petrol brush will start, but then stall. To exclude this reason, you need to clean the valve and try to start a petrol cutter with a tank cap that is not completely twisted.
2. If the brushcutter does not start at the same time, you should remove and clean the fuel filter, as well as check all the carburetor parts, and then try to start. The petrol cutter will not start again, the air filter is disconnected, try to start without it, if the mower starts up, the reason is in the air filter, replace it.
The petrol cutter will not start or will start, but stalls. What is the reason?
To understand this, you need to know the principle of operation of the unit as a whole. It also happens that, just bought, a new saw does not start, and it starts running around the service centers, in such cases it is recommended:
Carefully read the instruction manual;
to study in detail the method of the first start-up and running-in of petrol cutters;
try to understand how the product works;
how gasoline is pumped up and so on.
Reasons for malfunction of petrol cutters:
The quality of gasoline is poor;
incorrect proportion of gasoline and oil;
clogging of the fine filter;
the spark was gone.
The benzokos does not start on a cold
When starting a cold engine, it is not recommended to press the gas. Tilting the brushcutter so that the air filter is on top, press the fuel suction button 5-6 times, set the function switch lever to the start position, pull the starter cord several times until the engine starts. After a few seconds of running the motor, turn off the starting system.
The gasoline cutter won’t start after winter
In such cases, the unit must be serviced. Remove the fuel system, including filters (air, fuel), disassemble the carburetor, clean and rinse each unit. Blow out the filters with air. Pay attention to fuel quality and octane number.
It should be borne in mind that products of such well-known companies as STIHL, Husgvarna and other brands will not run on cheap gasoline with a low octane number.
Suitable fuel for them is from the AI 92 brand and above from car refueling stations and then from well-recommended ones, since there is also bad gasoline at refueling stations. The use of high-octane and high-quality gasoline will determine how long the brushcutter will be used and how long it will last.
It is necessary to take into account one more fact that with a long storage of a diluted fuel mixture, its working qualities fall, which also leads to consequences in which the petrol cutter will not start. Therefore, it should be diluted in portions, that is, the amount of the mixture that is produced at a time.
The operating instructions clearly describe and explain the mixing ratio of gasoline and oil. Strict observance of the correct proportions will at least save you from several questions about why the petrol cutter will not start and what to do in such cases.
The benzokos does not start when hot
If the brushcutter was recently in operation and has not yet had time to cool down but does not want to start, press the gas trigger, pull the starter cord sharply several times until the engine starts and only then the gas trigger is released. If enough time has passed and the brushcutter has managed to cool down, then it is necessary to start it as if it were cold.
If the above methods did not help, the petrol cutter did not start, then you should contact the service center.
Petrol trimmer won’t start well
So what to do if the petrol trimmer won’t start well or won’t start at all? The most common reason for such a breakdown is poor quality fuel. Remember that, for example, trimmers of the Stihl and Husqvarna brands are unlikely to start on fuel quality lower than AI-92. You should not save on fuel, because repair of parts of the cylinder-piston group can be one third of the total cost of the scythe, and sometimes even half. Also, when preparing the fuel mixture, it is necessary to correctly observe the proportions of fuel and oil, which are always indicated in the instructions for the trimmer.
What to do if high-quality fuel is poured into the gas tank, there is a spark, but the tool still refuses to start? It is necessary to check the condition of the candle. It is located in the center of the mower body. It must be carefully unscrewed and make sure there is no plaque on it. If there is, then carefully clean the candle from carbon deposits and dry it.
If the brushcutter does not start even after the methods suggested above, then you need to try to remove the air filter and start the device without it. If the trimmer still doesn’t work, dust off the old filter or buy a new one.
It also happens that the mower works for a maximum of 5 minutes, and then stalls and does not start until it cools down. In this case, try to open the filler cap of the gasoline filler cap; a suction sound should appear. Then screw the cap back on. If you do this manipulation while the trimmer has just started to stall, then the speed will be restored, and you can continue to work. If the mower stalls before opening the lid, then you just need to start it as expected according to the instructions.
Trimmer won’t start. Why?
A petrol trimmer is an amazingly useful thing that can be used to tidy up not only a miniature lawn in the backyard of the house, but also mow a lawn of considerable size without any extra hassle. But, like all things in this world, it tends to break. In this article, we will try to figure out what to do in cases where the trimmer refuses to work.
Trimmer won’t start after winter
How to be in such a situation? Don’t worry and panic. This is a very common problem that can be solved in just 3-4 minutes. Firstly, if last year’s fuel remains in the gas tank, then it must be drained. Gasoline loses its octave properties after 2 weeks of inactivity. Secondly, you need to start a petrol cutter after a long stagnation in a slightly different way. First you need to open the throttle and pump a little fuel mixture into the carburetor, then pull the handle until you feel a little resistance. Then you can start the trimmer.
Trimmer starts and stalls
If, when trying to start the trimmer, it starts, but immediately stalls, then the air filter may again be the reason for this. It is necessary to remove it and check if it is clogged with dust. If this is true, then you need to thoroughly clean it or purchase a new one. Also, the problem may lie in the malfunction of the ignition coil. In this case, take the mower to a service center.

At idle, common reasons for stopping the trimmer are as follows:
- Dirt, misalignment or incorrectly adjusted carburetor adjustment;
- Clogged air filter;
Replacing the air filter of brushcutters
Trimmer air filter
- Reducing the speed of the gearbox when it heats up, which is a consequence of the use of an unsuitable fuel mixture;
- Clogged throttle;
- Air ingress into the system;
- Not enough fuel to operate the petrol cutter.
Immediately after wound up
The unit may stall immediately after starting if the carburetor is misaligned or incorrectly adjusted, this causes an uneven fuel supply. The result of this is that the device vibrates distinctly. For troubleshooting, the carburetor is reconfigured, following the instructions for the mechanism.
Also, the engine stops when the fuel supply valve becomes clogged. In such cases, it is sufficient to simply clean it. If the brushcutter first worked, but then immediately stalled, then perhaps the fuel enters the carburetor unit with some difficulty. Weakening the valve helps to resolve the issue, which ensures free circulation of the mixture in the system.
The stoppage can also be caused by air leakage in the presence of mechanical damage to the hose (holes, cracks) that takes the fuel. In this case, add more revolutions to the drive in order to quickly expel air bubbles from the system.
What could have broken
Problems with the petrol brush, due to the fact that this device does not start, are classified in a certain way by service specialists. They highlight faults with the following components of the mechanism:
- An engine in which the piston and bearings may wear out or fail, crack the crankcase;
- The fuel supply system, while the filter may be clogged or problems with the carburetor;
- Mechanical damage to wires, tubes, hoses;
- Ignition circuit.
The brushcutter often stops when it heats up. At the same time, it starts, works with jerks and gradually stops. This process occurs when the gasoline in the carburetor boils or the damper is installed in a rotary rather than disc type. In the latter case, the part is changed.
It happens that the trimmer heats up if the ignition circuit wire or coil is damaged. In order for the device to start working normally, parts are replaced.
When you press the gas
If, when you press the gas, the petrol cutter stops, then the reasons may be as follows.
- The most common variant is carburetor adjustment failure, which occurs when the drive is under significant stress, after prolonged inactivity of the mechanism, or when it is used in difficult conditions.
- Clogging of the fuel valve, which is eliminated by loosening it, as a result of which gasoline begins to flow normally through the system.
- Loosening and drooping of the cable in the carburetor. The fuel hose can also be stretched to the point of rupture due to significant stress.
- Clogged breather (non-return valve), as a result of which fuel does not flow into the tank.
If the problem is related to the carburetor unit, then it can be recognized by the appearance of vibrations of the brushcutter. When the hose bursts or the cable is stretched, these components are replaced.
At high revs
When the scythe stalls at high speeds, this is due to the following problems:
- Clogging or sticking of the valve located on the gas tank cap;
- The carburetor is out of alignment under the influence of vibrations arising during the operation of the mechanism;
- Problems with the circulation of the fuel mixture;
- Suction of atmospheric air;
- The fuel intake hose is cracked or loose.
Adjust the carburetor according to the trimmer operating instructions. For adjustment, it is often sufficient to loosen the tightening of its housing. If there are problematic points with the circulation of the fuel mixture, then it can gradually enter the carburetor. After its development, the engine stalls at high speeds.
Complex reasons for the failure of petrol cutters
If the step-by-step troubleshooting algorithm does not work, and your scythe still does not start or stalls, it is worth inspecting the carburetor and the engine itself. A clogged carburetor can be one of the reasons for erratic tool performance. There are three main problems here:
- Clogged ducts or nozzles. All this is cleaned by special washes or blown by a powerful jet of compressed air from the compressor. Do not use needles and wires, as the bore may be damaged;
- Worn carburetor gasket. Exit replacement of a failed gasket;
- Violation of tightness. To check this indicator, you can use an ordinary household tonometer, replacing it with a suitable pressure gauge. Watch the readings: if they do not change everything is fine, but if the pressure starts to drop, then some part of the carburetor is faulty. We’ll have to find it and replace it with a new one.
If everything is in order with the carburetor, then the petrol trimmer may not start due to wear of the piston group. If chips, scratches or scuffs are found, the piston or cylinder should be replaced. Piston rings are subject to mandatory checks. A small backlash of the piston when rocking the connecting rod indicates that it is time to change the rings. It is best to entrust this procedure to the specialists of the service center.
Diagnostics of filters for petrol cutters
Another reason why the gasoline scythe stalls is the air filter. To eliminate it, try removing the filter and starting the trimmer without it. If possible, then you will have to change the air filter to a new one, or at least blow through and thoroughly clean the old one.
The petrol trimmer may not start if the fuel filter is dirty. This is the next step in our algorithm. Here we check the condition of the filter element and, if necessary, replace it with a new one. When replacing, try not to leave the suction pipe completely without a filter, this is prohibited by any operating instructions. Haste can turn into repairing the engine piston group.
Why the petrol cutter won’t start troubleshooting
Caring for the personal plot, summer residents periodically encounter the fact that the petrol cutter does not start. There are many reasons for tool failure. For the correct diagnosis of the problem, the owner of a useful unit in the country needs to know the device and the principle of operation of its individual parts.
- How to start diagnostics of brushcutters
- Checking the fuel mixture
- We carry out diagnostics of a candle and a candle channel
- Diagnostics of filters for petrol cutters
- Breather and exhaust port
- Complex reasons for the failure of petrol cutters
- Rules for the operation and storage of petrol cutters
Checking the fuel mixture
Before starting the engine of the gasoline streamer, check the presence and quality of the fuel mixture. Do not save, do not be greedy and do not be clever in this matter. Repair or replacement of the piston group will cost you too much (sometimes up to 70% of the cost of a new tool). Prepare the oil-fuel mixture strictly according to the instructions. Calculate its amount based on real needs. Excess gasoline left over after work loses its quality over time.
We carry out diagnostics of a candle and a candle channel
If the quality of the fuel mixture is not in doubt, and the brushcutter stalls when starting, then a flooded candle may be the cause. Here, for repairs, an ordinary candle wrench is suitable (every motorist probably has) and a spare candle.
- We unscrew the candle and wipe it;
- Dry it thoroughly (do not ignite);
- We drain the excess fuel in the chamber through the spark plug hole and dry it;
- We clean the old candle from carbon deposits using a file or a lady’s file;
- We expose a gap with a distance of 1 mm (you can check with any coin);
- We put everything back in place and try to start the trimmer.
If the candle is working, the socket where it is located is completely dry, and the petrol cutter does not want to start, lubricate the threaded connection with gasoline. It should be slightly damp. No matter how wonderful a spark the candle may give out, there is simply nothing to ignite in a dry chamber.
If the trimmer motor still does not start, you should exclude such a reason as the absence of a spark due to poor contact between the spark plugs and the high-voltage wire. If the connection is good and there is still no spark, most likely your ignition unit has flown. Here it will not be possible to do without a master, since the part is not repaired, but sold as a single unit.
Breather and exhaust port
Often, delicate branded petrol brushes do not start and stall due to a dirty breather. The main function of this element is to equalize the pressure in the gas tank. When this unit becomes clogged, a vacuum is created in the tank, preventing the supply of fuel. You can eliminate the malfunction by cleaning the breather. You can use a regular needle for cleaning.
Normal operation of streamers with internal combustion engines can be disrupted due to dirt entering the exhaust channel or a clogged silencer mesh. There is such a problem on older generation models. The issue can be resolved by traditional cleaning and removal of the anti-spark grid.
