The lawnmower will not start

Why the grass trimmer does not start: the causes of malfunction and how to fix them

It’s time to mow the lawn, but the lawnmower does not work? It’s even scary to imagine how you can keep your lawn in perfect condition with a hand tool, especially when you haven’t had to do it before. If the grass trimmer does not start, the causes may be very different, but most of them you can eliminate on your own.

You will not need any special tools or highly specialized knowledge. A little courage and free time to read this material. and the grass trimmer will not need to take to the master.

In this article, we will tell you how to determine what is preventing the start-up, give instructions on how to repair each unit and recommendations on how to avoid problems in the future. For clarity, photos and videos of the most common breakdowns are waiting for you.

Common Causes of Breakdowns

The first thing you should make sure of is the simplest things: availability and quality of fuel, the correct order of actions.

Use only the fuel and lubricants recommended by the manufacturer. Gasoline with too high an octane number is sometimes just as bad as 80. Do not keep the manual? A gas station 95 from a reputable gas station is universal.

Use only proper engine oil. The vast majority of gasoline trimmers have a 2-stroke engine, so you can’t use normal automotive oil. For 4-stroke engines, oil should be poured separately from fuel. over, do not pour “used”. used, second-hand oil.

Remember, repairing the piston group will cost 30-70% of the cost of a new brushcutter. Savings in quality fuel and lubricants are unlikely to cover these costs

Follow petrol and motor oil mix proportions precisely, do not just “by eye”. Most brushcutters recommend a 1:25 ratio, that is, 40 ml of oil for every liter of gasoline.

Do not prepare a lot of mixture at once: ideally, it should be worked out for 1 day and keep the equipment with a dry tank. The maximum shelf life of a ready mixture. 2 weeks, so more than 2 liters at a time it makes sense to mix unless the mowing municipal workers urban lawns.

If you haven’t used it in a while and there’s gasoline in it, you’d better pour it out. The mixture has already separated into fractions and lost its properties, even the most thorough mixing will not save it.

After checking that the gas tank is in order, try to start the lawn trimmer. To do this:

  • Pump fuel into carburetor with primer button 5-6 times.
  • Close the choke.
  • Turn on the ignition on the crank.
  • Pull the starter cord 1-7 times, until it starts.
  • After 5.Shut off the starting system for 10 seconds.

After the break, if you can’t start the engine normally, try opening the throttle and pulling the throttle trigger. Pull the starter cord without releasing the trigger.

A fully serviceable trimmer for grass starts up with 1-2 times, even if the cord is pulled calmly, not pulled as sharply as possible

It is also recommended to start the engine with the gas handle clamped, if it has not yet cooled down after the previous work cycle.

If the engine still does not start after 5-7 strokes, you should look for a breakdown.

Option. problem in the ignition system

The first thing that falls under suspicion is that the spark plug does not produce a spark, and therefore the fuel mixture does not ignite. often than not, the problem is in the spark plug itself.

To check, unscrew the spark plug from the cylinder by first disconnecting the wire.

A thin brown soot layer indicates normal engine operation, red or pink soot indicates an abundance of additives in the fuel, change the gas station. If the element is covered with black or white scale. the engine did not work properly.

Wet spark plug indicates overfilling, overcharging with primer. if so, dry the spark plug, but do not glow. Drain excess gasoline from the cylinder by turning the brushcutter upside down.

When cleaning, pay most attention to the part of the upper electrode that faces the center contact, but do not work too hard

Clean the contacts of dried plugs from carbon deposits with an emery board, sandpaper or a lady’s file. The gap between them should be 0.7 to 1 mm, which is the thickness of a standard coin. If necessary, adjust upper electrode.

Before reassembling it is worth checking that the spark plug works. Connect it to the power supply (put on the cap), put the body to the cylinder or any metal part of the engine, turn on the ignition, pull the starter. At the end, between the electrodes, with each tug there should be a bright, powerful spark.

It is very important to follow the safety precautions. Check the spark plug and brushcutter body to see if there is a drop of gasoline on it!

If after drying, cleaning and setting the gap there is no spark, buy a new spark plug. Sometimes there is no spark even with a new spark plug. In that case check the quality of the contacts, try to replace the armature wire, it is inexpensive and easy.

If there is no spark even with a new wire, you need to buy a new ignition coil. It happens that the cable does not disconnect from the coil, they are sold only as a complete unit. It is a little more difficult to replace on your own, because you need to precisely set the gap of 0.25. 0.4 mm to the flywheel starter.

A normal gap is about the thickness of a plastic bottle (cut out a piece to measure it) or 4-5 layers of masking tape

Install the coil with the spacer, try it on. Turn the starter motor: it should touch the spacer but turn completely. Remove the paper tape or plastic and finally reassemble the assembly.

It happens that when you check the spark plug gives a small but stable spark, but the start does not happen. After you screw the spark plug into the cylinder, a weak spark may be missing in the confined space. In such a situation it is also worth replacing the coil: a new one will give a more powerful pulse.

Variation. filters need to be replaced

If you get a spark, but the grasshopper won’t start, the problem is most likely in the fuel supply. The easiest way to check the air and fuel filter. that’s where we start.

To test their condition is simple enough: remove the filter elements and try to start the engine. If it works, you need to replace it, or at least clean it.

The fuel filter can be so clogged that you can’t see its housing. Naturally, attempts at cleaning in such a case are useless

The lawnmower won’t start. what to do??

It’s not the first time you’ve done lawn work with a gasoline mower or grass trimmer. Already by inertia you follow the whole algorithm of turning on the machine and suddenly realize that it does not start. What to do?

In ancient times, even before urbanization, in rural areas specifically to combat tall grass and weeds used uncomplicated devices, one of which was the usual hand-held grass mower. Everything was clear with it: if a blade or a mower blade is broken, you can replace the tool with an analogue and keep on working. But one day everything has changed.

Progress was not standing still, and one day to replace the good old mechanical mower to facilitate the village (and over time. and dacha) work came improved mechanisms. gasoline grass mower and trimmer for the grass. Getting rid of unwanted grass with them is much easier, but there is another problem. One day the wonder gadget may not even start. What causes this and what to do about it?

Inspect the spark plugs. One of the most common problems with a gasoline mower or trimmer is related to the fact that the spark plugs have been primed due to excessive fuel pumping. First of all they should be removed from the mechanism and inspected. If the spark plug is soiled, clean and dry it. Then put it back and try to start the machine again.

Check the fuel. If you have purchased a lawnmower or trimmer for grass not so long ago and filled it with gasoline of a variety that is not suitable for it, the unit is unlikely to start. Read the operating manual carefully and if necessary get all the information you need on the Internet. Same story with the oil: if it’s old, it’s probably not the second fuel component to blame for anything. A third possibility is that there is not enough fuel left in the tank to operate your lawn mower or grass trimmer properly. Try to refill the fuel, following exactly the proportions given in the manual when mixing gasoline and oil.

Check the fuel line. If the grasshopper leaves a wet trail and air enters the carburetor along with the fuel, resulting in no traction, most likely the cause of malfunction is in this part of the mechanism. For example, the fuel line hose is cracked. In this case, it must be necessarily replaced.

Replacing the grass trimmer’s fuel line with your own hands

Remove and clean the air filter. Maybe the grass trimmer or lawn mower is blocked by dirt and grass clogging this part of the machine. Once you get rid of the dirt, put the filter back in place and try to start the machine again. For an extra check, you can do it without the air filter. If the mower does not start, the reason is not in its clogging.

Among the more serious reasons why the gasoline grass mower or grass trimmer may not start, experienced gardeners name problems with the ignition coil and the engine. In this case, the mechanism should be taken to a service center or returned under warranty. This is certainly unpleasant, but if the lawn work needs to be done urgently, you can borrow the same machine from a neighbor or, in the end, find a good old hand-held mower in the attic.

Do you use a chainsaw or a trimmer, and have you ever had problems with their operation??

The clearance and how to set it in different cases

As a template for aligning the gap magneto can be successfully applied strip of the desired width and length, cut from an ordinary plastic bottle, such as from a Pepsi-Cola.

Only it is necessary to install it last, so as not to damage it during repair work, using the same hair dryer for any purpose. After all, if it is warped by hot air, you can not talk about accurate alignment of the gap magneto.

Exactly with the help of the spacer, cut out of a plastic bottle, you can accurately set the gap magneto 0,25 mm, as its thickness is exactly the same. To be sure of this, simply fold a strip in four and measure with a caliper its total thickness, which will be exactly 1.0 mm.

We put the spacer, cut out of a plastic bottle on magnetos magnetos, put the ignition coil on its place and fix it by solid bolts 8 by 8, previously filling the holes with a thread on the housing by a thread locker.

The same apply to the bolts, screwing which must not forget to secure the ground terminal. It is better to use an electric screwdriver for this. hand screwdriver with a hexagonal bit, because using an L-shaped hexagonal key can break the heads of the bolts.

It remains, having turned the flywheel with magnets, to remove the plastic spacer and, continuing to turn it, to check the quality (uniformity) of clearance when turning it from 0 to 360 degrees, which with this approach turns out ideal.

lawnmower, start

Some people use when aligning the gap magneto folded double Xerox sheet, which is also acceptable, but the use of a spacer made of a plastic bottle gives a better result. over, it can be reused dozens of times.

All that remains is to install the housing parts and you can start the engine to test how it starts and runs.

Sometimes in the process of operation the nodes of fixing the ignition coil to the magneto housing are deformed, which does not allow its reliable installation, since the holes in the coil and on the engine housing do not coincide.

of course you can try to straighten the defect, but it will be safer to buy a new coil, the more so as it does not cost too much.

All further actions are similar to the above described case, except that the heads of the ignition coil bolts may not be hexagonal, but wrench and Phillips screwdriver. But it does not change the essence of the matter: the tightening of these bolts must be guaranteed reliable, as in the first case.

To estimate the quality of the work done, you need to check the presence of the spark between the electrodes visually after the final assembly of the engine. To do it, connect it to the mass and start turning the engine with the help of a manual or electric starter.

Check for the spark has a nuance. If you pull sharply on the kickstarter, a spark will appear even if the magneto magnets are slightly faulty and even the ignition coils are completely dead. In this case the presence of a spark is not an indicator of the ignition system malfunction.

About the quality of spark formation can be judged only when it appears, when the flywheel of the magneto does not rotate too quickly, for which the kickstarter should not be jerked, and evenly and not quickly pull.

Only in this case the engine of a petrol or chain saw will start without problems, both for the first time in the morning and during the whole day of work (respectively, the so-called hot or cold start).

If there is no spark when the starter moves slowly, you will most likely have to change the ignition coil, adjust the magneto gap or change the spark plug.

The clearance adjustment on chain saws and chainsaws described above has proven fully effective over the last five years. There have never been any complaints from users after such a repair. This really helps when starting not only Chinese gasoline scooters, but also European, and even brand-name.

For all machines, regardless of manufacturer, the magneto gap setting of 0.25 mm instead of the 0.40 mm recommended by the manufactures produces excellent results. Some people suggest a gap of 0.10-0.15 mm, but this is too small. After all, there is a certain thermal expansion of the ignition system parts, the body itself, the crankcase of the lawnmower or chainsaw, and such a small gap can disappear at all, which can lead to failure (burnout), first of all, the ignition coils. Therefore, a gap of 0.25 mm from all points of view is optimal.

Second, the carburetor

There is no need to disassemble the assembly at once, especially if the engine stalls after starting or does not hold idle. First, try changing the fuel, maybe there is too much oil in it. You can inject a cleaner into the air filter, give the engine a little “blow-by” at maximum rpm.

Further we go in order. the air filter, the fuel filter (it can be outside and in a tank), the fuel pump button, the integrity of hoses. Gas tank plug. may be a clogged vent valve, the engine just does not pump gasoline. Blow everything out and it’ll work!

Absolutely. look at the carburetor connection to the intake manifold! If air is sucked in and there is no air tightness. remove it!

Dispensing needle freezes. also a problem with some models. It is enough to push it down, or take it off and sand it with velvet.

You can take off the hose from the carburetor and see if the fuel goes to it when pumping. It is clear that often you have to remove the plastic cover and break your fingers on the latches in order to check it, but sooner or later you have to get there.

Dry and wet spark plug: what does it mean and how does it affect engine starting

Most tool owners immediately resort to checking the condition of the spark plug contacts. This is done in order to understand from the state of the spark plug what could be the cause of the lawnmower‘s inability to start the engine. According to the state of the plug’s contacts, you can draw conclusions about what might be the cause of the malfunction. Diagnosing the spark plug on a banzocosa is done in the following order:

  • Unscrew the spark plug, and then inspect it. The ideal condition of the electrodes is if they have brown soot (brick-colored). If the spark plug is wet, has black or white soot, it indicates the corresponding malfunctions
  • If the spark plug is wet, there is a portion of unburned fuel in the combustion chamber that does not need to be drained. Clean and dry the spark plug contacts, then make sure they are in good condition. To do this, connect the spark plug to a spark plug socket and place it on the surface of the cylinder. Turn the ignition on, and pull the starter grip lightly. The spark plug should give a good and steady spark. If the spark is weak or there is no spark at all, then the spark plug should be replaced
  • The grasshopper may not start due to a large gap between the spark plug pins. The gap between the electrodes of the spark plug should be between 0,7 and 1 mm. To set the gap, special dipsticks are used

Important! Dry the contacts of the plug, by burning them, is categorically contraindicated, as this method will lead to damage to the part. If there is a spark on the spark plug, but the grass trimmer does not start, then the reason is the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. To make sure this is the case, follow these steps:

  • Fill a PET bottle cap or syringe with 20 grams of fuel
  • Pour it into the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole
  • Screw in the spark plug
  • Put on the candlestick and start the engine

If the lawnmower engine starts after these actions, the cause of malfunction should be sought directly in the fuel line and carburetor. If the engine does not start, even after the performed actions, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the high-voltage wire.

The high-voltage wire, like the spark plug, belongs to the consumables. If there is a suspicion of a faulty armature wire of the grass trimmer, it should be replaced. If, after the performed actions, it is not possible to make the lawnmower engine start, then it is necessary to take into account the following recommendations:

  • If there are any doubts about the condition of the spark plug or the high-voltage cable, they must be replaced immediately
  • Check the spark formation, and if there is no spark on the new spark plug, then the failure is related to the ignition unit. failure of the coil
  • The ignition coil is not repaired, but replaced. If, indeed, the diagnosis indicates a faulty lawnmower ignition coil, then it is not difficult to replace it with your own hands

If there is a spark plug, and at the same time it is dry, and the grass trimmer at the same time does not want to start, then proceed to check the next node. air and fuel filters.

Important! If the electrodes of the candles have a red or pink color, it indicates that the fuel used contains a large amount of additives. It is necessary to refuse such fuel by changing the station or brand of gasoline.

Checking the filters

The air filter cleans the air entering the carburettor. A clogged air cleaner will cause less or no air flow to the carburetor. To find out if the air filter is the cause of the grass trimmer not starting is easy:

  • Remove the air filter and inspect it. The presence of clogging is already a reason to blame this part
  • If you do not find any clogging visually, try to start the engine without the filter. If the grass trimmer starts without a filter, it is definitely necessary to replace this part
  • The air filter can be cleaned with a compressed air stream, but if it has not been changed for a long time, it is advisable to replace it with a new one

It should be noted, the lawnmower may not work because of a clogged air filter, but these are extremely rare cases. Often, clogged air filter affects the stability of the engine, as well as, contribute to a decrease in performance.

Important! If a chainsaw is started without an air filter, it is not advisable to run the tool without a filter element as contamination will get into the cylinder and thus reduce the service life of the tool.

The real reason why the gasoline trimmer for grass does not start, is to clog the fuel filter. This part is located in the tank of the tool, and if the mower is more than 2 years old, it is time to check the serviceability of the fuel filter element. If the filter is clogged, then the fuel mixture, respectively, will not flow to the carburetor, and therefore the grass trimmer will not start.

It is not difficult to replace the fuel filter, as it is sufficient to remove this part from the tank and perform its replacement. If you are going to clean the fuel filter with a compressor, it is recommended to abandon this venture. It is better to buy a new lawnmower fuel filter, because there will still be clogging inside the old element.

If you are not sure if the cause of the grass trimmer motor’s inability to start is the fuel cleaner, then the following steps should be taken:

  • Remove the fuel filter
  • Start the lawnmower
  • If it starts, and quickly, then really. The problem is in the fuel filter

Causes of a clogged fuel filter

  • Continuous operation of the tool
  • If low-quality gasoline or oil is used
  • When storing fuel in the tool tank for a long time
  • If you fill the tank with fuel that has been stored for a long time
  • When dust and small particles get into the tool’s tank. This usually happens when you are refueling the tool

Important! if the fuel filter is working and the lawnmower will not start, check that the fuel hose is filled with fuel. After all, there are cases when the hose and the filter are simply disconnected from the main tube, which leads to the inability to start the engine of the tool.

In the next ProfiDom publication.com.ua will conclude by looking at faults in a lawn mower or grass trimmer that may cause them not to start

Basic rules of lawnmower operation

lawn mower needs quality and careful operation. This determines its expected service life and the absence of any major malfunctions.

  • monitor the cooling system during operation;
  • timely clean the charger channels and starter ribs, and for cleaning you should use special detergents or ordinary kerosene;
  • cool down the tool before the subsequent cleaning.

In the case of draining the fuel, you need to let the gasoline mower work at idle speed until it stalls. This will allow you to remove any residual work mixture in a timely manner, regardless of the power of the device.

How to prevent storage breakdowns?

Lawn mowers are used during the warm season. For the winter, they are removed for storage in a pantry, closet or garage.

Maintenance of the grass trimmer should be performed several times a year (t.ч. After winter storage) to extend the possible service life of the grass trimmer

To prevent tool breakdowns, you need to properly prepare the tool for seasonal storage:

  • Drain the fuel mixture. it should always be drained if you do not plan to use the unit for a month, t.к. fuel over time disintegrates into a variety of heavy fractions that can clog carburetor passages;
  • completely disassemble the lawnmower;
  • Wash, clean and dry all accessible parts;
  • Inspect all elements of the grass trimmer for damage;
  • Eliminate all possible malfunctions, misalignments and minor defects;
  • Fill the gearbox with a sufficient amount of oil;
  • Partially disassemble the engine;
  • Flush and lubricate all necessary parts, including the.ч. piston;
  • Clean air filter.

If the lawn mower is stored outside the home and living area, it can be wrapped in an oiled cloth. This will minimize the risk of rust on the tool and increase its life.

Careful preparation and treatment of the grass trimmer will allow trouble-free storage of the device for several seasons.

What to do if a chainsaw spark plug fills up?

Most often it happens at beginners when at the first start skip a “pop” at the closed air flap and continue to pull the starter handle, respectively, gasoline in the combustion chamber is received very much, and not enough air does not allow to ignite gasoline.

  • Use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the plug and check its condition. If the spark plug is wet and there is a spark, then it has been primed. Open the choke, flip the switch, squeeze the throttle all the way in and start the engine. Excess gasoline should come out of the exhaust and the saw will start.
  • Unscrew the spark plug with a spark plug wrench and check its condition. If the spark plug is wet and has a spark, it has been primed. Turn the chainsaw upside down with the spark plug hole and crank the starter a dozen times, letting the excess fuel leak out of the cylinder. Then wipe (ignite) the spark plug dry or replace it with a new one and try to start the engine again following the instruction manual. If the spark plug is completely dry, it means that no fuel is flowing into the engine. And since it’s in the tank, there’s probably a problem with the carburetor. You can put some mix in a syringe, squirt it in the cylinder, screw the spark plug and try to start the engine. But if the engine starts and then immediately stops, it means that the problem is still there and you need to call the service center.

How to use and store the lawnmower

For the lawnmower to start well in the future, it is necessary to ensure good storage and operating conditions:

  • During operation, keep a close eye on the cooling system and clean the housing ducts and starter ribs thoroughly and in time;
  • if necessary, use solvents, kerosene or other cleaning agents for cleaning;
  • Do not clean the tool while it is hot. let it cool down;
  • Always follow the operating instructions or you may overheat the engine;
  • If you do not plan to use the mower in the next month, the fuel mixture should be drained from it, t. к. Over time, it breaks down into heavy fractions that will definitely clog the carburetor passages;
  • after draining the fuel, let the trimmer run at idle speed until it stops, this will help remove the remaining mixture completely.

Do the following steps before winter storage:

  • disassemble the braid completely, rinse and clean all the parts you can;
  • Inspect the parts for damage, if necessary, remove misalignments, rips, bends and any other malfunctions;
  • Pour enough oil into the gearbox and clean the air filter;
  • You can partially disassemble the engine, flush, purge and lubricate all moving parts;
  • To lubricate the piston, you need to unscrew the spark plug, raise the starter piston to its dead center, pour some oil into the spark plug hole and crank the crankshaft a couple of times;
  • If you store your lawnmower out of the house, wrap the engine with an oiled rag.

Remember, the careful observance of the rules, will allow you to forget about that bad start lawnmower for several seasons.

lawnmower, start

How to store your lawn trimmer properly and eliminate problems with starting it

On the correct approach to the storage of the grass trimmer depends on its launch. This does not only apply to winter storage. When storing chain saws and trimmers, you must consider a number of the following rules

  • Before putting the tool away for winter storage, drain the fuel from the tank. In addition, the residual fuel must also be removed, and this can be done by starting the engine, letting it run for a while until it stalls
  • It is desirable to store the tool in a dry place
  • Before starting the engine after a long pause of more than 2-3 months, you must first inspect the spark plug electrodes, as well as check the main nodes. air filter, high-voltage wire, and so on
  • When using the tool, it is necessary to consider that overheating of the motor negatively affects the service life, so you need to take breaks when working, especially if you use a trimmer for grass with a two-stroke engine for work. 4-stroke machines are not only more powerful, they are also more robust
  • After the winter, the first thing to do: pour some oil into the spark plug hole, having previously moved the piston to the extreme dead center. It is necessary in order to lubricate the parts of the cylinder head when starting the engine, thus preventing their rapid wear

Only, with the right approach to finding the reasons why the grass trimmer does not start, you can find and eliminate the breakdown yourself. You do not need to be an expert to do this, nor do you have a deep understanding of the construction of gasoline engines. Just follow the order of the sequence presented in this material and it will be an easy thing to get your lawnmower working again.

Dry and wet spark plug: what it means and how it affects the start of the motor

Most tool owners immediately resort to checking the spark plug contacts. This is done in order to understand, based on the condition of the candle, what may be the reason for the inability to start the lawn trimmer engine. According to the state of the plug’s contacts, you can draw conclusions about what might be the cause of the malfunction. Diagnosing a spark plug on a banzocosa is done in the following order:

lawnmower, start
  • Unscrew the spark plug and inspect it. The ideal state of the electrodes is when they have a brown (brick-colored) tarnish. If the spark plug is wet and has black or white soot on it, this indicates a problem
  • If the spark plug is wet, there is a portion of unburned fuel in the combustion chamber that does not need to be drained. Check to see if the spark plug is working properly after cleaning and drying the spark plug contacts. To do this, connect it to a spark plug and place it on the surface of the cylinder. Turn the ignition on, and pull the starter grip lightly. The spark plug should still give off a good, steady spark. If the spark is weak or there is no spark at all, then the spark plug should be replaced
  • The grasshopper may not start if the gap between the spark plug pins is too big. The gap between the electrodes of the spark plug should be between 0.7 and 1 mm. To adjust the gap, use a feeler gauge

Important! Dry the candle contacts by burning them, it is strictly contraindicated, as this method will lead to spoiling the part. If there is a spark on the plug, but the trimmer for grass, however, does not start, then the reason is the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. To make sure of this, you should perform the following actions:

  • Fill the cap of a PET bottle or a syringe with 20 grams of fuel
  • Fill it into the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole
  • Screw in the spark plug
  • Put on the candlestick and start the engine

If the lawnmower engine starts after the performed actions, then the cause of the malfunction should be sought directly in the fuel line and carburetor. If the engine does not start, even after all these actions, then you need to check the serviceability of the high-voltage wire.

The high-voltage cable is a consumable like the spark plug. If there is a suspicion of a malfunction in the armature of the grass trimmer, then it should be replaced. If you cannot start the engine of the lawnmower after you have done this, then you should take into account the following recommendations:

  • If there are doubts about the serviceability of the spark plug and high-voltage wire, then it is recommended to replace them immediately
  • Check the serviceability of spark formation, and if there is no spark on the new spark plug, then the breakdown is related to the ignition unit. the failure of the coil
  • The ignition coil is not repaired, but replaced. If, indeed, the diagnosis indicates a defect in the lawnmower ignition coil, then it is not difficult to replace it with your own hands

If there is a spark plug, and at the same time it is dry, and the grass trimmer at the same time does not want to start, then proceed to check the next node. air and fuel filters.

Important! If the electrodes of the spark plug have a red or pink color, it indicates that the fuel used contains a large amount of additives. You should give up such fuel by changing the filling station or brand of gasoline.

Check the filters

By means of the air filter the incoming air into the carburetor is cleaned. A clogged cleaning element causes less air flow or no air at all into the carburetor. To find out whether the air filter is the reason that the grass trimmer does not start, you can use a simple method:

  • Remove the air filter and inspect it. The presence of clogs is already a reason to blame this part
  • If visually clogging is not detected, you need to try to start the motor without the filter. If the grass trimmer starts without a filter, it is definitely necessary to replace this part
  • The air filter can be cleaned with a stream of compressed air, but if it has not been changed for a long time, it is advisable to replace it with a new one

It should be noted that the lawnmower may not work because of a clogged air filter, but these are extremely rare cases. Frequently, clogged air filter affects the stability of the engine, as well as, contribute to a decrease in performance.

Important! If the chainsaw is started without an air filter, it is not advisable to run the machine without the filter element, as this will reduce the service life of the cylinder.

The real reason why the gasoline grass trimmer does not start is the clogging of the fuel filter. This part is located in the tank of the tool, and if the scythe is more than 2 years old, it is time to check the good condition of the fuel filter element. If the filter is clogged, then the fuel mixture, respectively, will not flow into the carburetor, and therefore the grass trimmer will not start.

Difficulties, with the replacement of the fuel filter, does not arise, as, for this purpose, it is enough to remove this part from the tank, and make its replacement. If you are going to clean the fuel filter with a compressor, it is advisable not to do so. It is better to buy a new filter for cleaning the lawnmower‘s fuel, because there will still be clogging inside the old element.

If you are not sure if the cause of the inability to start the grass trimmer motor is the fuel cleaner, then the following steps should be taken:

  • Remove the fuel filter
  • Start the lawnmower
  • If it starts, and quickly, then really. The problem is in the fuel filter

Causes of a clogged fuel filter

  • Keeping the tool in the tank for a long time
  • If using bad gasoline or oil
  • Storing fuel in the tool’s tank for a long time
  • If you fill the tank with fuel that has been stored for a long time
  • If there is dust or small particles in the tool’s tank. This usually occurs during refueling the tool

Important! If the fuel filter is working and the lawn mower will not start, check that the fuel hose is in the fuel tank. There are cases when the hose and the filter are simply disconnected from the main pipe, which makes it impossible to start the engine.

In the next publication of ProfiDom.com.ua will conclude the examination of faults in lawn mower or grass trimmer, due to which they may not start
