The polishing nozzle on the drill with their own hands

The fabric or leather polishing sleeves look like circles of different diameters

The polishing attachment on the drill comes in several varieties:

  • Felt. They look like circles of varying diameter made of felt. It is needed for cleaning and other preparatory work immediately before and after polishing.
  • Sheepskin pad. Effectively completes the polishing process, giving a mirror-like finish.
  • Cloth or leather nozzles. The sheepskin pad is ideal for cleaning bodywork or glasswork prior to polishing, and is perfect for polishing in inaccessible places and uneven acrylic and lacquer surfaces. The leather wheels are softer and more forgiving, and are ideal for gently car bodywork.
  • The foam nozzles. The finer the mesh on the foam, the softer and gentler the polish.

To start the work you will need not only a polishing nozzle on the drill, the power tool itself, but also a special agent that is applied to the surface to fix the brilliant result.

Drill bit for wood polishing

If it is a question of polishing wooden structures, it is very effective for this purpose to use a special attachment to the drill for polishing wood.Drill in general a universal tool.

Wood polishing nozzles Operation of the nozzle

In general it can be said that if you have a good enough drill, with its help, simply changing the nozzles, you can perform various works. For example, for polishing wooden structures, using the nozzle, you can perform quite effective work, and, with good performance. For this purpose, you can take, for example, a plate or drum design and a shank adapter. The choice depends on the type of work.

The nozzle is usually made of polymer or rubber, to which the abrasive part is attached. There is always a layer between the working part and the abrasive. Usually beginners are advised to choose a soft layer, it is easier to manage in the work. With a hard layer, you can ruin a product when you are not used to it by not being able to work at the right angle. The nozzle on the drill for polishing wood to buy in the store is not very difficult. Of course, it can be made by yourself, but even a slight misalignment can make all the work in vain.

Applications of grinding nozzles for drills

Grinding nozzles for drills in many cases quite successfully replace the specialized grinder, which allows the home craftsman in solving their tasks to do with a minimum of driving tools. For example, using a wire brush, you can remove rust or old paintwork, then use a plate with abrasive paper to sand the surface before and after priming, and then polish the paint with felt or felt. If it is necessary to install such a nozzle on an electric screwdriver, special chucks with a hexagonal shank or adapters are used. The only limitation of such a tool is the low rpm of the electric screwdriver.

The availability of variously shaped abrasive burrs makes it possible to bore a hole in metal to the desired size or to give it the desired shape. These nozzles for drills have a lot of forms and sizes, so you can always pick up the appropriate size and shape of the profile to be sharpened. Grinding plates and drums are often used with a drill, fixed with special devices in a horizontal or vertical position.

In this case, the drill acts as an improvised mini-turner that can be used both for grinding parts and for sharpening tools.

For curved cuts

There is an interesting device that allows you to turn the drill into an electric jigsaw. The device is fixed in the chuck and allows you to cut sheet material based on wood, plastic and even thin sheet metal. Cutting tool. movable file.

This device is a useful thing in the household, but the nozzle has a rather high price. If you need to make curved cuts frequently, it is worth considering buying an inexpensive jigsaw.

There are other similar devices. Drill bits for drilling round holes in wood are very popular. They help you overcome the drill bit size limitations of most models and drill holes of any diameter.

Creating nozzles with your own hands

If a suitable option is not available on the market, a soft layer can be made for the high rigidity disc and placed between the velcro and the plastic base. Use a stationery knife to cut off the Velcro where the soft layer will be glued. For a soft layer is mainly used bath sponge. It is necessary to remember that individual elements may shift, breaking the overall symmetry.

You can also use a felt disc, which is used in the polishing machine and machine. First, a pin with a suitable diameter size should be made and threaded on one side of it. On this side you need to fix the disk, which is surrounded on both sides by a wide nut and a limiting washer. This device has no difficulty in manufacturing and can be used for processing a variety of surfaces.

Peculiarities of care of felt circles

When working with felt discs it is necessary to adhere to certain rules, as their surface is very much exposed to any contamination.

In the case where the felt is clogged, the quality of sanding will decrease significantly, there is a possibility of formation of scratches or chips:

  • If the disc is not used and is attached to the machine, it must be covered. You can remove the disc from the sharpener and wrap it tightly with paper;
  • it is better not to use additional pastes and other additives if there is no particular need;
  • the wheel should be cleaned carefully, while rotating it, a pumice stone should be brought to the wheel surface without pressing it too hard. In the same way you can even out the surface of the polishing disc. During cleaning, make sure that. That the flaking particles do not clog the surface, but peel off.

nuances of application

You can buy a car polishing drill bit at any auto supply store. But they must be chosen with care.

The body elements of new cars are made by modern technology. Apply an anti-corrosive compound and paint to the metal, which is resistant to wear and tear. They will last approximately 15 years. But the surface will hold up better if cared for properly. Polishing tool ensures the restoration of the original shine and removes defects from the surface. Combined with a special tool, such a product will cost less than the services provided by the workshop.

Nozzles for polishing cars. The result of use

Hello there. Today’s set will be dedicated to the tips for polishing cars, which I bought on the expanses of Aliexpress. I once set a goal to tidy up the paintwork of my car. After watching YouTube and reading all sorts of different articles, it became clear to me that there is nothing complicated about it. All you need is necessary tools, a little time and plenty of patience. Fortunately, the most expensive device without which the polishing process is simply impossible (and if it is possible, it becomes much more difficult). angle grinder I already had. So it was just a matter of polishes, and nozzles for the same grinder. Since the idea of giving my iron horse a nice shine, I was very excited, so first of all I went to the nearest market, where I could buy the necessary accessories. And here was the first (and by and large the last) obstacle waiting for me. they wanted 10-15 for a polishing nozzle. And taking into account the fact that the nozzles you need at least two, and preferably only three, I had to pay for them from 30 to 45, which is not so little. And since I did not want to part with such a sum, I had to consider other options. the purchase of things I need in China. Well, it’s not a problem, there is an overabundance of nozzles of all sizes and colors. You can buy the necessary set at once, or you can, as I did, try to save a little more and buy everything separately.

In order to choose the necessary parameters of the ordered goods, you can study the inscriptions on the grinder. In my case there was a schedule.

There are 2 main values that are important. the diameter of suitable circles (in my case 5″ or 125 millimeters) and fit size (I have M14). Knowing all this, you can order.

The main nozzle, which is installed on the grinder and to which the attached polishing wheels were bought here and at the time of purchase was worth 6500.99.

A set of 4 polishing wheels with the right diameter was ordered here for 6500.48. There are sets for 6, 7, 8 and more wheels, but I think that’s too much.

The parcels had no full track, but their delivery time from China to Belarus was about the same. If anyone is interested, the movement of one of the parcels in China can be seen here.

After receiving the orders, I went to the cottage to put it into action. So, to give a shine to your favorite car, we need:. ordered nozzles;. angle grinder;. polishes (abrasive, “thin” and polish in color. not necessary);. sheet of sandpaper with grit 2000 (did not get on the photo).

Now a few words about the ordered nozzles. I have no complaints with it. The base (hard rubber nozzle) came without any packaging, even the seller spared the Pupyrka. It fits perfectly on the grinder. The nozzle is made of black rubber, no extraneous smell, looks pretty neat. On the back, you can see the diameter, as well as the maximum speed at which it can work.

The front of the nozzle is covered with a “hedgehog” of Velcro. This is the way the polishing wheel is fixed. They fit perfectly and sit securely. In all the time I spent working on the car. not one of the circles came off. And after work it looks like new, just a little white

Unlike the base, the polishing wheels came to me sealed in a plastic bag. I have a set of 4 nozzles, which was more than enough for me to completely polish the entire body of the car. The nozzles have different stiffness, which can be determined without problems even to the touch. In the following picture they are arranged in decreasing order of hardness: orange is the hardest, yellow is the softest (although it’s very similar to black in this way).

The back side of each nozzle is covered by a soft material that perfectly clings to the base.

Thanks to the form of a pattern (not flat, and with projections) polishing circles perfectly polish so-called holograms. uneven gloss seen in the paint in good light.

Those same holograms, by the way, look like this (not my photo. got it online):

With polishing cars, by the way, there are no complications. To begin with a good wash the car, remove all the dust and sand from the surface of the body (from those areas that will be polished). Then with a not very active solvent remove specks of bitumen, tar and other dirt that could not be washed away with water.

To be honest, I don’t think my machine has ever been subjected to a similar procedure before. Before I went to work, the paint was no longer shiny and had lots of tiny scratches and other strange inclusions, and felt rough:

Take water and sandpaper and start scrubbing the body / particularly damaged areas until the varnish with the dirt which got into it begins to come off. Unfortunately, there are not many photos of the process, because my hands were wet, then dirty, then the polish dried up (which should not be allowed).

The main thing here is not to overdo it and not to wipe the varnish to the paint. Although the process of sanding is great, as soon as the sandpaper begins to slide easily over the surface. it’s time to move on to another area. I worked in stages. front fender, door, second door, rear fender, trunk, etc.д. Rinse off everything that’s been scrubbed. I got this unattractive matte surface. And yes, unless you specifically set yourself such a goal, it is very problematic to wipe all the varnish down to the paint with a 2000 sandpaper.

Wipe everything dry. Take the abrasive polish (I bought it in bulk, 100 grams it cost me 5, it was enough for the entire body and a little left over), the hardest (orange) nozzle and start polishing. First one element, then the other. And so the whole car. On this photo you can clearly see the border on the untouched (left) and already treated (right) side of the hood.

After all the car will go through rough treatment, change the polishing wheel for softer and take a “thin” polish. In my case, the wheel was black and the polish. DoctorWax DW8307. Finishes the process by using the softest wheel and color polish (K2 ColorMax).

Preparatory stage

Before you start preparing necessary tools, wash and dry the car. Next, you need to clean the traces of insects and tar spots with a special agent.

Bodywork polishing with a drill should not be done outdoors to avoid getting defects. The room for work must be equipped with ventilation and good light in order not to miss small scratches and roughness.

Shape

Nozzles for polishing cars are usually made in the form of a cone or circle. They often go in addition to polishes, along with polishing tapes and sheets. There are many options that are used for both bodywork and jewelry or optics.

These elements ensure that your vehicle’s aesthetics and performance are preserved, as any vehicle will look much better after a thorough wash and polish.

A guide to setting the recommended speed:

Note: Not all paints require the full four-step process. Perform only the steps necessary for the condition or your paint job.

Here are some basic car polishing tips to keep in mind as you learn how to polish your car with a dual-action polisher.

  • Make a test spot! Make sure your technique and process are producing the desired results before you begin polishing the entire vehicle.
  • Use the right combination of pad, varnish and speed for the current condition of your paint
  • Always keep a cushion on the surface of the paint
  • Always start with the least aggressive varnish, and then increase it only if necessary
  • Use reciprocal overlapping motions
  • Slow down! Don’t run the grinder too fast, or it won’t do the job
  • Work on a small area (2 inches by 2 inches) so you can focus on the area
  • polish is not better! Use only 3 to 4 pea-sized strokes and add more as needed
  • Never dry the buff! Add varnish when you see that the varnish is thin and starting to peel off
  • Never water the surface in direct sunlight or on a warm/hot surface
  • Never use more than one type of varnish for polishing or sanding
  • Keep pads away from trimming and sharp edges
  • Cover some areas with painter’s tape to avoid stains and cracks and chips
  • Never remove the pad from the polishing wheel when the machine is on
  • Throw the cord over your shoulder and keep it away from the machine
  • Tie a loose knot around where the extension meets the polisher cord so it stays connected
  • The polishing wheel on your drill should be in good, fresh condition
  • Make sure you have good lighting so you can see the entire surface
  • Apply medium pressure only when defects are corrected
  • Check your work more often to make sure your process is working

How to make polishing wheels on an emery with your own hands

In this review, the master shows how you can make polishing wheels on an emery with your own hands. These wheels are great for rough polishing various metal products. In doing so, it is easy to make them.

In most cases a set of two polishing wheels will suffice for the home workshop. The first circle master makes from what was at hand. the shanks of old boots (material. rough wool).

To make a second polishing wheel for the emery is also used felt, but already medium-hard. First of all, the craftsman cuts out circles of felt of the required diameter. In the center you need to make holes with a puncher.

The basic steps

First, the master makes the first polishing wheel. from coarse wool (from boots). He will need a total of four workpieces. They must be glued together, clamped with a clamp and left to dry completely.

The second polishing wheel of medium-hard felt is made in the same way. In addition you need to find or make round plates of metal or plywood.

Then the master sits both circles on the emery shaft, and treats the edges with a rasp. After that the rough polishing of parts and blanks can be started.

For details on how to make polishing wheels on an emery with your own hands, you can watch a video on our website.

Making nozzles by yourself

At home it is realistic to make your own grinding wheel of felt or felt. For the material, old felt boots or felt cloth will do. About 50-250 mm of material is needed for the nozzle.

Sequence of steps:

  • It is important to carefully glue the blanks for the circle. They must be glued with glue, not reaching the edges, otherwise during polishing dried glue will damage the surface.
  • The dabbed parts of the future nozzle to connect and press tightly until the glue dries completely.
  • In the center of the workpiece, make a hole of the desired diameter for attaching to the power tool.
  • Fix a small rod in the hole to make it easy to put on and take off from the drill.

After polishing, it is desirable to glue at the car service center a protective film, so scratches and chips on the body will practically not.

Purpose of polishing nozzles

As the name suggests, the polishing nozzle on the drill is designed for polishing different surfaces.

Usually such devices are used by motorists who often have to fix scratches on their cars.

polishing, nozzle, drill, their, hands

The point is that after painting or waxing, you have to spend a lot of time polishing the scratch, only then it will be indistinguishable from the rest of the car.

Most polishing drill bits are used for polishing with polishing pastes.

Automobile drivers are also familiar with such a thing as a broom. This tool can quickly remove a thick layer of rust. There is no point in removing a thinner layer that is usually firmly in place.

If a metal part needs to be painted and it is rusty, it would be very logical to use a rust converter, which will turn the rust layer into a very good solid primer, on which any paint will adhere.

Finally, in many cases all kinds of grit abrasives and sanding pads are used. Also use all kinds of abrasive nozzles. grinding wheels, bits for drills. Their selection on sale is quite large, and they significantly expand the scope of the usual drill.

What the polishing attachment achieves

Polishing gives the vehicle an updated, fresh-looking bodywork. This treatment is particularly important for repairing small chips and dulling the surface. The polishing is done in two stages. First the surface layer of paint is removed, followed by the application of polishing compounds.

There is also a protective treatment, which is used to reduce the negative effects of various precipitation and ultraviolet radiation. Most often, it is part of the pre-sale preparation of the car. The protective coating is spread over the entire surface and can be made in different compositions, with the addition of components such as silicone or wax. They form a water-repellent, invisible film and leave a bright sheen. Soft nozzle on the drill for polishing is suitable for used cars, on the surface of which there is no damage to the paint layer. It is also used in a gentle treatment with protective agents.

Polishing products

Before proceeding to restore the surface, it is worth taking care to have the necessary materials, such as:

Careful selection of the agents used for treatment. Pastes with abrasive particles are necessary to remove the top varnish layer. They are selected according to the type of cracks and chips on the surface. Compounds with a large number of particles are indispensable for repairing obvious defects. Quite common are compositions that give brightness to the color.

The paintwork protection on new cars is often cloudy, in which case you can get by with a waxing paste that does not contain abrasive agents.

A variety of polishes allows the right product to be selected for any task. Thick pastes are suitable for vertical surfaces. They can work on any parts of the car. Such products are often characterized by the presence of components that increase the brightness of the shade.

Waxes with a liquid consistency are only suitable for the horizontal plane, for example, for the hood or roof. The main advantage is that there is no possibility of damaging the enamel.

Aerosols are quite convenient to work with. These compositions are economical and effective. But it is worth noting that the cans, despite their size, do not contain much material.
