Transporter potato harvester for power tiller with his hands

How to make a vibrating tiller for power tiller with your own hands

The vibrating potato digger is considered one of the most versatile devices of its kind. The design of this unit allows to mount it on any tiller or mini-tractor and use it on all types of soil.

Before proceeding to make a potato digger for a power tiller with your own hands, it is worth stocking up on the following materials:

  • metal rods;
  • steel channel;
  • a section of steel;
  • a coulter from 5 mm;
  • metal corners (40 and 60 mm);
  • profile pipe;

It is important! The first step in assembling a potato digger is to develop a drawing. When creating a scheme with your own hands, you need to indicate all the parameters on it, including the dimensions of the power tiller.

Before making a screen potato digger it is necessary to stock up on fasteners and bolts

Algorithm of making a screen potato digger for a power tiller with your own hands:

  • The first thing to do is to build the frame of the device. To do this, the pipe must be sawed into four parts. In pairs, they should have a length of 120 cm and 80 cm.
  • The resulting sections should be welded in the shape of a rectangle.
  • Weld the crosspieces, they are mounted on a quarter of the length of the base.
  • Parallel to the crosspieces to install the billets of mounts for the wheels in the number of two pieces. For this you need to use 15 cm long pipes with a diameter of 3 cm.
  • Then you need to weld the vertical struts. At a distance of 5 mm from the edge of the frame, in the place where the crosspieces are located, mount a pair of 50 cm long plates.
  • At a distance of 20 cm you need to mount 4 cm long pieces. Step back from them 40 cm and install a third pair of posts 30 cm long.
  • Use a metal sheet to make a frame. Its size should be 40 cm by 40 cm (thickness of 3 mm). Mount the first piece to the bottom of the struts. The second piece (size 70cm x 70cm, thickness 4mm) should be welded to the first one and shaped like a cone using a sledgehammer.
  • Grate of rods to be welded to the frame, its ends must extend beyond the frame. The number of pieces can vary from 10 to 15 pieces, depending on the type of crops you plan to cultivate.
  • To strengthen the grid across it, two more pieces of bars are welded.
  • Install the wheels on the previously prepared brackets.

Important! It is necessary to take into account the weight of the finished construction and try not to overload it with extra elements. An overly bulky unit will interfere with the smooth operation of the system.

Drawings, schemes, dimensions of potato harvesters for power tillers Neva, Mole, Kaskad, MTZ-09H, Salut, Agat

The single-axle tractor “Neva” is considered the most popular among farmers and landowners. It has a user-friendly design and powerful technical characteristics. The most suitable self-made potato harvester for the “Neva” power tiller is a device of the screen type.

Due to the specifics of its work, the screen potato harvester for the “Neva” power tiller was given a second name. vibration

Universal variant for all types of power tillers. a potato harvester of “Poltavchanka” model. The parameters of such a device is 950×790×800 mm, the processing depth is 25 cm. These characteristics allow to use the unit in any conditions, regardless of soil and type of crops. “Poltavchanka” is appreciated for its high productivity in a relatively small size.

“Poltavchanka” is popular with the owners of power tillers “Mole” and “Agat”

Power tillers “Salut” and “MTZ-09H” are similar in their construction, that is why in the construction of potato harvesters for this technique are often used identical drawings. Diggers for these devices have the same mounting system, which allows using the same unit for both models.

“Salut” and “MTZ-09H” have an original design, so the drawing of a potato digger for these devices has different features

A vibratory potato digger is also recommended for the “Cascade” motoblock, but due to the more massive wheels, the harvesting device may have different parameters from similar equipment.

Often, when making a vibratory digger for a Cascade motoblock, changes are made in the location of the plowshares and the size of the wheels

How to make a homemade device with their own hands

Even a novice potato harvester will be able to make a potato harvester with his own hands. The construction of the machine requires little financial investment. The machine turns out to be simple, so it does not need to involve professionals for its repair and maintenance.

The device for digging potatoes is made of a bent metal sheet and rods. Parts are welded and fastened to the body. A single-axle tractor moves, the tines rake the potatoes, and the earth is spilled between the bars.

Use a rectangular or square pipe to make the base

Step by step assembly and installation process

The peculiarity of the domestic climate is that during the harvesting of potatoes, the soil is wet. The simplest digger will not help here. a more efficient device will be needed. The assembly is carried out in a certain sequence.

The frame

The base is made of a rectangular or square tube with sides 4 cm or more. Make the uprights from a 4-meter steel billet. It is cut into sections of 80 and 120 cm in length, from which a rectangular frame is welded. Connect the corners by gas or electric welding.

Ties and their fasteners

Lintels are welded to the frame, but not in the middle of the sides, but at a distance of a quarter of the length from the edge. On the back side of the frame, support tubes are welded vertically, and the base for the axle is attached to them.

Nuts and bolts are used for mounting, and the holes are drilled or cut with a drill or graver. The wheels are mounted on the axle.

Vertical struts

Make a total of 3 vertical struts on each side of the frame. The first one is 50 cm long, 5 cm away from the edge of the rectangle. The second one is 40cm long and 40cm away from the first bar. The third bar is at a distance of 40 cm from the second bar and is 30 cm long. The result is a descending ladder.

In order for the unit not to collapse from heavy loads, you need stiffness for the racks

Reinforcing stiffness

Reinforce the legs with a 0.5 mm thick band of metal. At the bottom, the elements are connected to each other at an angle of 45 degrees. Stiffness for the uprights is needed so that the unit will not collapse from heavy loads.

Braces or a frame

The frame is made of a 0.3-mm thick sheet of metal. According to the drawing the blades are cut out, and the plow is attached to them by welding. To make the blades grip the ground better, you need to give them a convex shape.

Making a rolling board

The board that the tubers will roll on to remove the soil is also part of the machine’s construction. To avoid adding weight to the construction, the gable is made of thin metal rods. Fittings with a length of 1.2 m and a diameter of 1 cm are suitable. The pieces are welded 4-5 cm apart.

Adjustment bars

Hoes are not a mandatory element, but they facilitate the use of a potato digger for a power tiller on wet and heavy soil. Alternatively, the adjustable structure is attached to a separate frame, and it is attached to the main frame. fasteners are tightened with bolts and nuts.

The ease of movement along the rows depends on the width of the tires

support wheels

Wheels are an obligatory part of the potato digger. The width of the tires determines the ease of movement through the rows: narrow wheels will fall into the ground when moving, especially if it is damp. The tires from a garden wheelbarrow or other unnecessary device would work.

Making a shake shovel

Note! A rattling, shaking shovel is made in just a few hours, if you have some skills in working with agricultural machinery.

It consists of only 3 basic elements:

  • steel sheet (5 mm);
  • metal profile;
  • drills on metal;
  • welding machine;
  • an angle grinder, a drill;
  • steel wire (8 mm in diameter);
  • eccentric;
  • bolts;
  • pencil with ruler.
  • Cut a metal profile for the frame;
  • weld the wheel stands to the bottom of the frame;
  • weld on holders for the hinges to fix the rattle inside the frame;
  • screw in the brackets to mount the reducer by welding it to the frame;
  • suspend the screen inside the frame on hinges;
  • fit the reducer on the brackets;
  • connect it to the screen to create vibration;
  • cut the blade out of steel;
  • attach it to the lower part of the frame and the screen by placing it on the hinges;
  • attach the wheels by putting them on the machine.

Please note! You can make the knife in any shape you want: convex, concave, bent, pointed.

The model will not rumble during work, but only be in a constantly oscillating state, cutting the soil with tubers and slightly tossing them up. They will fall already cleaned behind the machine or on the side of the strip, rolling off the grate.

Drum type potato harvester

Potato diggers with drums have proven to be good for harvesting large areas. This machine consists of three parts:

The blade is attached to the frame on hinges. It cuts the soil, which together with the tubers enters the drum. The rotation of the drum breaks the clods and the earth pours down through the sieve. The potatoes are transported to the end of the drum and fall out on the arable land.

The drum is connected to the tractor shaft through gears, chains and a gearbox, from where the torque is transmitted to the drum. The wide blade cuts deep into the soil to minimize crop loss and the no-damage to the tubers as they pass through the drum. This unit justifies the cost and time required to build it with its high productivity.

Homemade potato harvester for your power tiller with your own hands

The problem of harvesting crops, especially potatoes, is very dear to country folk and dacha owners because of its high labor intensity. A small area can, of course, be dug out with a shovel, as is most often done. However, it is much easier and faster to harvest potatoes even from two or three acres, using a potato digger for a power tiller.

There is a rich choice of models of industrial potato harvesters, which can be purchased in specialized stores. However, using your technical skills and our recommendations, it is possible to make a potato digger for a power tiller with your own hands.

Instructions for constructing a passive potato digger for a power tiller

Self-made potato digger is much easier compared to the mass of other homemade devices. To make a passive design, you should stock up:

  • with sheet iron for a ploughshare of 3-5 mm in thickness. Strong steel should be preferred so that the shovel stays sharp as long as possible;
  • with a steel wheel or rebar with a diameter of 8-10 mm for a sifting grid;
  • The drums are equipped with a channel or a 10 mm thick steel strip for the trailed structure;
  • Use a 30 mm corner to reinforce the installation;
  • with a machine for manual arc welding;
  • With a drill, as well as elements for fasteners.

The most effective form of plowshares is the form of a classic cultivator called a dovetail. If you need to bend a whole sheet of metal in a straight line, you need to preheat it with, for example, a gas burner. Specialists recommend forging the working edge for hardness. Harden the piece after giving it its final shape. Once you have welded the bars to the back side, this part of the metal can come off. Do not worry about it, the worktop will still be sufficiently hard and strong.

The second method of construction and the most preferred is to use old circular saw blades, which are excellent wear-resistant steel. Cut out two sections with an angle grinder and weld at an angle with an electric welder. Of course, subsequent hardening is recommended. This ploughshare will give you a long service life and sharpness.

You can use old farming equipment as a support, for example you can use a holder from a classical plough. This is usually what most people do. In the absence of such a part, a steel strip will do. But the use of channels, and the more so of angles, for this purpose is impossible because of too much resistance in the process of cutting the soil.

It is possible to make a hanger from a channel, but it is necessary to provide the possibility of adjusting the depth of plunge and the angle of attack.

This self-made potato harvester does not require mandatory supervision during digging and harvesting. If you have a seat attached to your motocultivator. you just need to move quietly along the rows with ripe potatoes, and the freshly dug white crop will be visible behind you.

Transporter potato digger for mini-tractor with their own hands

The fan-powered potato harvester of the simplest design can be considered a universal one. It has no rotating parts, which can sometimes fail quite quickly when the load increases. These devices are also called lancet diggers, or paws, factory-made copies. Dolphins, as they have a characteristic plough shape.

Please note. Homemade and factory-made devices work on the same principle. With their help, only potatoes growing in one row can be cultivated at a time. The potato digger is attached to the minitractor with a single hitch.

The step-by-step principle of operation can be shown by an example:

  • The plow is moved with the help of a power tiller;
  • The plow (ploughshare) gradually sinks into the ground to a certain depth;
  • Its further advancement contributes to the undercutting of the potato sprigs, thanks to which the potatoes are on the surface and fall on the bars;
  • as the tiller continues to move, the soil is sifted out, and the potatoes are dumped from the fan grate onto the soil.

Please note! To turn with a potato harvester, the tiller requires at least three meters.

With this implement the whole potato crop can be selected from all soil types, no weeds or stems are necessary.

Selection parameters

Potato diggers differ in the following parameters:

  • Size. the greater the length and width of the working mechanism, the greater the productivity of the potato digger. Narrow devices are more suitable for single beds in a household, while wider counterparts with a grip are used to harvest potatoes from more than a hectare of land.
  • How to clean potatoes from the soil. this factor is taken into account, depending on the soil conditions of the region where you plan to use the potato digger. While loose chernozem is easy to fluff, loamy and sandy soils need additional cleaning.
  • Operating principle. this determines how well the attachment operates.
  • The presence/absence of additional wheels. large machines must have an extra point of support, otherwise it will be difficult for the power tiller to do its main work.
  • Methods of attachment. the optimal option is considered to be the screw method of attaching the potato harvester to the power tiller. This allows the attachment to be disconnected at any time. Some models are attached exclusively by welding.

Many farmers also pay attention to the brand name and price. These two are not determining factors, but they largely determine how productively the implement will work.

Depending on the technological features, potato diggers are of several types: fan, screen, drum, conveyor, conveyor, vibrating. Each is designed for certain types of soil and volumes of cultivated area.

Fanning

It gets its name from the fan-shaped arrangement of the rods. Operating mechanism is in the form of a plough, from which equally spaced bars depart.

The principle of operation is simple: the plough plunges into the ground, the traction of the tiller rises from the depth and the potatoes fall on the bars, where they are shaken off the excess soil and laid as a carpet on the bed.

Advantages are easy to make and low cost. The disadvantage is that the rods wear out quickly and break when used on hard ground.

Rumble

Has a more complicated design with extra wheels and bearing points. Contains a grid, which is inclined relative to the ground at an angle.

The potato plough is lowered below the potato location, after which the potato is lifted to the surface, the excess soil on the grid is removed, and the root crop is placed on the ground surface.

Advantages include the ability to get the potatoes as clean as possible from the ground. A disadvantage is the low productivity.

Tumbler

It is a complex mechanism that makes the landowner’s job as easy as possible. With the help of a plough, which goes deep into the soil layer, the potatoes are lifted and fall onto a grid, after which they are transported into a rotating drum. Then the potatoes are further cleaned from the soil and fall into the box.

There is another principle of the drum potato digger: a knife cuts the soil layer together with the potatoes and takes them into the drum, where under the influence of the constant movement the excess soil is sifted, and the potatoes are poured on the ground.

Advantage is the ability to cultivate large areas and transport the potatoes directly into the container. No need to collect the potatoes from the soil surface additionally. Disadvantages include the inability to use on hard soils.

Transporter

Consists of two main parts: the transporter, which moves the potatoes, and the flatbread, by which the layer of earth with the root crop is lifted. Not suitable for wet and sticky soils.

The disadvantage is that it cannot be used on fields where there are weeds. The stems of the plants get caught in the conveyor belt, wind themselves up and slow down the potato harvester.

Conveyor

Potato digger is a bucket with a hole in the center of which a conveyor belt is installed.

Potato harvester

Root crops are lifted together with soil, moved to the belt, where the removal of residual soil takes place. The potatoes are then placed on the surface of the ground.

The advantage is the possibility to process several beds at the same time. The potatoes are clean and with minimal damage.
