Chainsaw fuel system repair

There may be several reasons why the fuel-air mixture does not enter the cylinder:

clogged fuel filter;

  • clogged hole in the fuel tank cap (breather);
  • insufficient fuel;
  • improperly adjusted carburetor;
  • clogging of channels or violation of the integrity of the carburetor membrane.
  • To diagnose a clogged filter or breather, you just need to disconnect the hose and see how the fuel flows. The trickle from the tank should be poured out with good pressure. If it is intermittent and weak, then the filter must be pulled out through the neck of the tank and washed or replaced, and the breather must be cleaned with a needle.

    The chainsaw carburetor is a rather complex device, equipped with many small parts. Therefore, it is better to entrust its disassembly and repair to specialists.

    If the carburetor filter is simply clogged, then it can be carefully removed, shaken out, washed with detergents and put back.

    The main malfunctions of the Partner 350 chainsaw

    Most often, the cause of a tool breakdown is associated with interruptions in the operation of the engine or other components and systems. Disassembly is required to rectify any faults. To do everything right, you need to know the design features of the chainsaw and the main reasons for its breakdown.

    Cleaning the muffler

    In some cases, the engine starts to stall and smoke at high revs. At the same time, at low speeds, it works normally. Most likely the reason is that the muffler is clogged with combustion products.

    To eliminate this malfunction, the muffler is removed, disassembled and cleaned of carbon deposits with the help of detergents. After that, it must be dried with a hairdryer and installed in place.

    Cover the saw outlet with a clean cloth while the muffler is removed.

    The reliable and easy-to-use saw of this model has a gasoline engine with a power of 1300 watts. It features easy starting thanks to the built-in professional fuel pump and electronic ignition system.

    The chainsaw is equipped with a safety system that automatically activates the double inertial chain brake. The chain is also lubricated automatically. Changing the chain tension of this unit is very easy with just two wrenches.

    The chainsaw is equipped with a fuel primer, so it is easy to start at any time of the year. The drum of the starter of the tool is equipped with a special impeller, with which it is cleaned of dirt.

    A filter with CCS system is able to trap all residual particles. In addition, this system allows you to use the air filter for a long time, while saving fuel consumption.

    Manufacturers of the Partner 350 chainsaw equipped the cylinder walls of the piston group with chrome plating, which significantly increases the service life of the tool.

    Checking the ignition system

    First of all, if any chainsaw malfunctions, you should inspect the spark plug. To do this, the wire is first disconnected, and then the candle itself is turned out using a special key. By its appearance, you can understand the cause of the problem:

    A carbon-coated chainsaw candle indicates the use of low-quality oil, an incorrect ratio of oil and gasoline when preparing fuel, or a poorly adjusted carburetor. In this case, the candle must be cleaned of carbon deposits with a needle or awl, and the electrodes must be washed and wiped with a sandpaper.

  • If the spark plug is heavily splashed with fuel, then most likely the carburetor is incorrectly adjusted or the rules for starting the tool have been violated. To remove excess fuel, it is necessary to shut off the fuel supply, turn on the starter and check the combustion chamber. After that, the candle is wiped, twisted into place, and the mechanism is started again.
  • A completely dry candle indicates that the fuel mixture does not get into the cylinder of the chainsaw. In this case, the cause of the breakdown is not in the ignition system, so the plug is put back.
  • To check the spark plug is working, you need to put on the ignition cable, connect the cylinder and the plug nut with pliers, and start the starter. If there is no spark, then the spark plug must be replaced.

    Repair of the cylinder-piston group

    In this group, problems are rare. If an element breaks down, it is most often replaced with a new one.

    The main malfunctions of the cylinder-piston group:

    • Engine power can be lost due to low (about 5 atm) cylinder pressure. To measure it, you need a special pressure gauge, which is called a pressure gauge. Normal working pressure of the cylinder is 8-9 atmospheres.
    • If hot gases are emitted into the crankcase, the piston rings are likely to sink.
    • Loss of pressure and the release of gases through the cracks may indicate the destruction of the cylinder head gaskets. They need to be replaced.

    It is possible to fully assess the condition of all elements of this group only visually, through the hole from the removed muffler. If possible, then remove the cylinder head or the entire cylinder.

    If the cause of the chainsaw breakdown is insignificant, then it doesn’t matter whether the tool was made by Russian or Chinese manufacturers. Disassembly and repair of the unit can be done quite easily with your own hands, having previously studied its design and video instructions for troubleshooting.

    Broken chain

    It is necessary to regularly lubricate the chain during the operation of the saw, because it works in extremely difficult conditions. Its service life is negatively affected by abrasive particles, dust and even overheating.

    If you leave the chain dry, it will soon stretch and overheat. In the worst case, jamming can occur, that is, the sprocket breaks off. Oil is supplied through it through channels, which are quite often clogged with sawdust. They should also be cleaned regularly.

    In addition, constantly clean debris and sawdust under the cover of the chainsaw, as this may not activate the chain brake. In addition, dirt has a bad effect on the performance of the device.

    Failure of the cylinder-piston group

    The most serious malfunctions are considered scratches on the surface of the piston and cylinder, their damage, sinking of the piston rings in the grooves, breakdown of the crankshaft bearings.

    repair, brake, partner, chainsaw, hands

    Most of them lead to the inability to start the engine, as pressure drops in the cylinder. There are several options for repairing and checking the condition of the cylinder-piston group (CPG).

    For example, you can measure the compression in the engine. For this operation, a compression gauge is used, which is mounted in the spark plug hole. Thus, the condition of the parts of the CPG can be checked.

    To see the side surface of the cylinder, it is necessary to remove the muffler and look into the opened gap. Although the review is limited, the general condition of CPH can be seen.

    To accurately assess the performance of the cylinder-piston group, you will have to completely disassemble the chainsaw engine. First, the crankcase is disconnected from the cylinder, after which the piston is pulled out. If it has chips, scuffs and large scratches, then it needs to be changed.

    Low compression occurs most often when coking and damage to the piston ring. Be sure to check that there is no carbon deposits on it. In addition, it should sit loosely in the piston groove and be pressed against the cylinder surface.

    In general, you should always monitor the cleanliness of the chainsaw and the various holes. This is the only way to avoid many breakdowns and further repairs. Be sure to watch the video on how to do it correctly.

    How to remove an asterisk

    To access the chainsaw sprocket, you need:

    • Remove the crankcase cover, chainset and bar and then the air filter.
    • Unscrew the plug, instead of which insert the piston stopper.
    • Unscrew the clutch after inserting a puller into the Allen key hole. This will open access to the asterisk, after which the last one can be removed.

    After the faulty part has been removed, the sprocket can be replaced with your own hands.

    Partner chainsaw will not start Carburetor diagnostics and repair Carburetor adjustment

    The “Partner 350” chainsaw has a rather complicated connecting rod mechanism. Its malfunctions are often accompanied by the sonorous operation of the motor. It should also be emphasized that if the connecting rod mechanism breaks down, the carburetor often fails. Here it is more expedient to start repairing the Partner 350 chainsaw on your own by inspecting the ignition module. It will also be necessary to completely check the clutch. For example, the condition of the centrifugal clutch deserves attention.

    If you set a goal to look at it, you need to remove the top cover. Specifically, the clutch for this model is located near the carburetor. To get to the centrifugal clutch in the saw, the flywheel is removed. Further, the carburetor head is disconnected. Then it is essential not to destroy the fuel system. Bolted centrifugal clutch. You can disconnect this part with a key. If cracks appear under the cylinder, then the clutch will have to be changed. But some experts recommend taking your time with this. If the cracks are shallow, of course try a little to grind the surface with a ratfil.

    The breather of the presented model gets clogged when bad fuel is used. Under these circumstances, the repair of the Partner 350 piston chainsaw should be started with an inspection of the carburetor. To be able to see it, you will have to remove the top cover of the device. Further, the ignition module is twisted. Then, in principle, disconnect the crank immediately. In this case, you will have to use the keys. The next step is to disconnect the drum.

    Next to it is a carburetor. It is not necessary to remove it for inspection. The choke is mainly checked. Sometimes the problem can be here. If the throttle is ok, you should look at the tire. When it is damaged, its sides are slightly knocked off. Cracks can also be observed in the very center of the tire. If the part is deformed, it will have to be replaced. It is better to obtain spare parts for the Partner 350 chainsaw in specialized workshops. Putting a tire on the carburetor is difficult without the help of others. Under these circumstances, it is more advisable to contact a specialist.

    DIY repair and basic faults

    During the operation of the Partner 351 chainsaw, various breakdowns and malfunctions may occur. Some of them can be corrected by hand, without contacting service centers and repair shops.

    • When the engine is running, a lot of black smoke is emitted, does the chainsaw stall at high revs? Most likely, the muffler is clogged. To fix the problem, you need to remove it and remove all debris and carbon deposits. Over the long years of operation, the muffler of the Partner 351 chainsaw, and not only, is heavily clogged with carbon deposits. Dry the muffler after wet cleaning. During the repair, the inlet from the muffler is closed with a piece of cloth.
    • Fuel not flowing? There may be several reasons:
    • Fuel filter or fuel tank hole clogged. To fix it, remove and clean the fuel hose or breather.
    • Problems with adjusting the carburetor, including clogging of its channels and membranes. The carburetor of the Partner 351 chainsaw consists of many small parts. For repair, it is better to contact the service center.
    • Lack of fuel in the tank. To fix it, you need to pump up fuel, and fill the tank.
  • Problems in the cylinder-piston group, namely the loss of engine power or gas contamination of the crankcase? Such malfunctions are extremely rare; for accurate diagnosis and elimination, you may need special equipment or a complete replacement of the cylinder block with a piston. You can try to visually assess the state of the system, for this you need to remove the muffler:
  • If there is a loss of engine power, it is most likely a compression problem. For diagnostics, it is necessary to measure the pressure in the cylinder using a manometer. If it is significantly less than the standard indicator of 8-9 atmospheres, then a complete replacement of the cylinder-piston unit will be required.
  • If there is an intense formation of gases in the crankcase, then it is necessary to carefully study the condition of the piston ring. Any microcrack or chip on its surface violates the tightness of the system. The ring must be removed and replaced. To do this, it is better to contact a repair shop.

    Carburetor setting

    The Partner 351 chainsaw has several working mechanisms that require periodic inspection and maintenance. One of them is a carburetor.

    It is not recommended to repair the carburetor of the Partner 351 chainsaw with your own hands, but it is possible to make a small adjustment. There are two main breakdowns that can be eliminated by adjusting the carburetor with your own hands:

    • Spinning the chain while the engine is idling. To eliminate the malfunction, you must use the adjusting screw. First, turn it fully clockwise. Then make 4.5 turns counterclockwise. The malfunction should disappear.
    • Incorrect supply of the fuel mixture. There may be several reasons. From misalignment of adjusting screws to breakage of carburetor parts. In any case, the adjustment takes place according to the same scheme.

    To adjust the carburetor, there are three adjusting screws: L. for high rpm, H. for low rpm, T. idle of the Partner 351 chainsaw.

    • The adjustment starts with screw T. To do this, start the saw, and turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until the chain stops.
    • Then screw L is turned counterclockwise a quarter of a turn. During idle adjustment, there should be the largest turns.
    • Turn screw H a quarter of a turn counterclockwise.

    After carrying out these manipulations, a tachometer is taken, and the revolutions are checked. They should correspond as much as possible to the rpm indicated in the passport of the Partner 351 chainsaw. If you nevertheless decided to adjust the carburetor of the Partner 351 chainsaw with your own hands, we recommend reading the article about tuning the carburetor on a chainsaw. The article is of a general nature, contains all the necessary information and will greatly help you in this not simple process.

    Do-it-yourself chainsaw repair: analysis of major breakdowns and methods of their elimination

    It would seem, why does a chainsaw need a summer resident who grows vegetables and fruits, or a country house owner who has a small garden and several flower beds? The question disappears when there is a desire to build a bathhouse, update a greenhouse, knock down an old business, or just make a bench for relaxation. Unfortunately, any mechanism periodically needs prophylaxis and replacement of spare parts, and for this you need to be well versed in the device of the product, besides, repairing the chainsaw with your own hands will save time and money.

    Constructive components of the chainsaw

    All chainsaws are similar in structure, regardless of whether they are European (ECHO, Stihl, Husqvarna) or domestic (Kedr, Ural). The main elements are located inside the body. the fuel tank and the engine, and outside the starter, the handle, the saw part (tire) with the chain. A sharp jerk of the cable starts the engine, and that one. the saw blade.

    To get started, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with video clips that show how the chainsaw works and how it works:

    From time to time, the saw malfunctions, which require disassembly to eliminate. What can happen to such a simple mechanism as a chainsaw? At least the following:

    • Stops to start;
    • Starts up, but soon stops;
    • Ceases to function in the cut;
    • Loses its power;

    Most of the malfunctions are associated either with interruptions in the operation of the engine (fuel supply system, exhaust system, ignition, cylinder-piston part), or with malfunctions of other systems and assemblies (clutch, chain brake, tire, lubrication system). Consider the most common breakdowns and techniques for their elimination.

    A serviceable chainsaw starts with one jerk and does not fail in the cut

    Checking the ignition system

    The first thing to do if a chainsaw breaks down is to inspect the spark plug by disconnecting the wire and carefully unscrewing it with a special key.

    The components of the chainsaw ignition system: 1. flywheel with magnets, 2. ignition module, 3. spark plug, 4. high voltage wire

    Unscrew the spark plug to check its condition.

    Her appearance says a lot:

    • Dry. Most likely, the fuel mixture does not enter the cylinder. It’s not about the ignition system, so the plug is screwed back.
    • Strongly splashed with fuel. The reason for the excess fuel mixture lies either in a violation of the starting rules, or in an incorrect adjustment of the carburetor. The spark plug is carefully wiped, shut off the fuel supply and turn on the starter. to remove excess fuel and ventilate the combustion chamber. Then the candle is placed in place and the mechanism is started again.
    • Covered with black carbon. This may indicate the use of low-quality oil, an incorrectly adjusted carburetor, or an incorrectly calculated gasoline to oil ratio. The candle should be washed, cleaned of carbon deposits with a sharp object (awl or needle), wipe the electrodes with a sandpaper and put in place.

    When checking the candle, you need to pay attention to the gap between the electrodes: it is considered normal from 0.5 to 0.65 mm. A damaged or worn gasket must be replaced.

    A large amount of black carbon on the spark plug indicates a malfunction of the engine.

    To be sure, you should also check for a spark. To do this, put the ignition cable on the spark plug, connect the plug nut and the cylinder with pliers, start the starter and watch for the spark. If it is missing, the plug must be replaced. If the new candle also does not emit sparks, the problem is in the high-voltage wire or in the broken connection with the candle.

    Repairing the chain lubrication system

    Let’s consider three main faults:

    • Oil leakage. It should be checked that the pipes are tightly connected to the pump unions and if they are not cracked. Problem tubes are sealed with sealant or replaced.
    • Insufficient oil supply. Most likely, the lubrication channels are clogged.
    • Cracks in the oil pump housing. Part needs to be replaced.

    Here’s how to diagnose the lubrication system:

    Dismantling and cleaning the muffler

    If the engine works fine at low speeds, but at high speeds it starts to stall, the reason may lie in the spark arrester of the muffler, clogged with combustion products.

    • remove the muffler;
    • disassemble (there are also non-separable models);
    • remove carbon deposits using detergents;
    • dry with a hairdryer;
    • put in place.

    Dry cleaning is unacceptable, as the soot contains carcinogens, the inhalation of which is dangerous to health. After removing the muffler, the outlet is closed with a clean cloth.

    Interruptions in the operation of the chainsaw signal a possible clogging of the muffler

    To avoid clogging of the muffler, it is necessary to monitor the composition of the fuel mixture. The amount of oil should not exceed the standards recommended by the manufacturer. Poor oil quality also negatively affects engine performance.

    Assessment of the state of the cylinder-piston group

    Often the engine will not start or run at full capacity due to low cylinder pressure. It can be caused by piston or cylinder wear, piston ring sinking, bearing wear. You can partially examine the state of the cylinder-piston group (CPG) by removing the muffler and looking into the opened hole.

    A compressor placed in the spark plug hole will help to measure the compression in the engine. according to the measurement results, you can also talk about the state of the CPG. Accurate data is obtained only after complete disassembly of the mechanism. If the piston is chipped or scratched, it must be replaced. The piston ring must be clean, free of carbon deposits, and be exactly in place.

    Piston and crank mechanism wear is considered a serious problem.

    According to the results of measuring the compression, one can judge the condition of the parts of the CPG

    Fuel may not enter the cylinder for the following reasons:

    • Dirty fuel filter. Remove the fuel hose and check how the fuel flows. If the jet is weak, the filter may need to be cleaned. It is taken out through the filler hole of the fuel tank and cleaned; in case of severe contamination, it is replaced with a new one. As a preventive measure, it is recommended to replace the fuel filter every three months.
    • Clogged breather (holes in the fuel tank cap). Check also by disconnecting the hose, in case of blockage, clean with a needle.
    • Lack or insufficient fuel. There may be several reasons for the malfunction. The first reason is a clogged air filter. Air ceases to flow into the carburetor in the required amount, in this regard, due to a too rich fuel mixture, engine operation is disrupted. The contaminated filter is carefully removed, cleaned and washed in water, then dried and reinstalled.

    Another reason is improper adjustment of the carburetor. Adjustment is made with three screws.

    Timely replacement of the fuel filter ensures full fuel supply

    The fuel hose and choke actuator must fit snugly against the fittings

    The throttle lever cable must be in place

    During work, you must use the instructions, otherwise you can only make it worse.

    And the last reason is a violation of the integrity of the membrane or clogging of the carburetor channels.

    All parts must be clean, dry and in good condition.

    Engine malfunctions

    • The engine will not start;
    • starts up, but stalls;
    • works unstable;
    • does not develop power, i.e. works normally at idle, but stalls under load.

    When repairing a chainsaw with your own hands, you need to act by elimination. check one by one all the possible causes of the malfunction, starting with those, checking and eliminating which takes less time (about the design and operation of a two-stroke engine, see here).

    Ignition system. Almost all types of engine problems listed above can be caused by faults in the ignition system. Therefore, when they occur, it makes sense to start troubleshooting with a candle. This is all the more justified since the state of the latter can provide useful information about the operation of the fuel system. So, if a problem occurs, you need to unscrew the candle and inspect it.

    The wire is disconnected and the candle is unscrewed with a special key.

    If the plug is dry, this means that the problem is most likely not in the ignition system, but in the fuel mixture entering the cylinder. You can wrap the spark plug back and start the fuel system. If the spark plug is heavily splashed with a fuel mixture, then there is an excess of it. This can occur from a misalignment of the carburetor or a violation of the starting rules. The candle is wiped and dried, the cylinder is drained by shutting off the fuel supply and working with the starter. to vent the combustion chamber and remove excess fuel. Then put the candle in place and repeat the start.

    The presence of a large amount of black carbon also indicates a malfunction in the fuel system.

    The ratio between oil and gasoline in the mixture may be disturbed, the carburetor is not adjusted or poor-quality oil is used. The candle is washed in gasoline, cleaned with a needle or an awl from carbon deposits, the electrodes are cleaned with a fine sandpaper and installed in place.

    In all these cases, it will not be superfluous to check the gap between the spark plug electrodes. Depending on its brand, it should be in the range of 0.5-0.65 mm. It is also necessary to check the spark plug gasket. If it is worn out or damaged, the tightness of the combustion chamber may not be ensured, which leads to a decrease in compression in the cylinder and problems in engine operation.

    Even if, when checking the spark plug, there is good reason to believe that the problem is in the fuel system, you need to check the spark plug for the presence of a spark. If only to be sure that everything is in order with this. For this:

    • put the ignition cable on the spark plug;
    • using pliers with insulated handles, apply the thread or nut of the candle to the cylinder;
    • pull the starter handle and watch. is there a spark or not.

    If there is no spark, you just need to replace the spark plug. If the new spark plug does not have a spark either, you need to check the condition of the high-voltage wire for an open circuit and contact with the spark plug.

    The reason for the absence of a spark may also lie in a faulty ignition module or a violation of the gap between it and the flywheel magnetic circuit. It should be 0.2 mm. A gap violation becomes especially likely if the saw was disassembled before the flywheel and ignition module were removed. The gap is set with a 0.2 mm spacer placed between the flywheel boss and the ignition module. Defective ignition module must be replaced.

    Having checked the ignition system in this way and not finding a malfunction, you can go to the fuel mixture supply system.

    Fuel supply system. If by inspection of the spark plug it was found that fuel does not enter the cylinder, all possible reasons for this need to be considered. This could be:

    • no fuel flow from the tank due to a clogged hole in its lid (breather), while a vacuum is created in the tank, which prevents fuel from flowing out;
    • contamination of the fuel filter installed in the tank;
    • non-flow or insufficient flow of the fuel mixture from the carburetor to the cylinder.

    To diagnose the first two reasons, it is enough to disconnect the fuel hose from the carburetor and see if fuel is leaking from it or not. If it flows with a full stream, the breather and filter can be left unchecked, if it does not flow or flows weakly, we can assume that the cause of the malfunction has been found. The breather is cleaned with a needle. The fuel filter is removed through the filler opening of the empty fuel tank, with a wire hook, together with a suction hose from which the filter is disconnected and cleaned or replaced with a new one. Chainsaw manufacturers recommend changing the fuel filter every 3 months.

    Insufficient flow of the fuel mixture from the carburetor into the cylinder or a violation of the correct ratio between fuel and air mixed in the carburetor can occur for several reasons: due to clogging of the air filter, unregulated carburetor, clogging of its channels or filter mesh.

    As a rule, the repair of chainsaws is not complete without cleaning the air filter, since it gets dirty quite quickly. When this happens, the flow of air into the carburetor is reduced, the fuel mixture at the exit from it is too rich, which disrupts the normal operation of the engine. Remove the dirty filter for cleaning carefully so that dirt from it does not get into the carburetor. The filter should be cleaned or washed in water with some kind of detergent, dried and reinstalled.

    The misalignment of the carburetor is eliminated by adjusting it. This is usually done with three screws. maximum and minimum speed and idle screw. The adjustment must be carried out in strict accordance with the instructions, non-observance of which may lead to engine damage. Some saw manufacturers keep only one adjustment screw (idle speed). in order to exclude unwanted interference by inexperienced users with the operation of the carburetor. For an example of adjusting the carburetor of a chainsaw, see the article Working with a chainsaw.

    If adjusting the carburetor does not help, you need to clean its channels and filter mesh, and at the same time check the integrity of the membrane. Carburetor. one of the most complex chainsaw devices, so you need to start disassembling and cleaning it with a full understanding of the responsibility of this operation. It consists of many small parts, which have the peculiarity of jumping out of their places imperceptibly and being irretrievably lost, so that, having disassembled this capricious device, you can not assemble it.

    Below is a diagram of another chainsaw carburetor.

    If there is no experience and self-confidence, it is better to entrust the repair of the chainsaw carburetor to a specialist of the service center. Sometimes for high-quality cleaning of the carburetor it is necessary to use ultrasonic cleaning.

    Muffler. Often, the cause of engine malfunction, especially in the case when the engine normally operates at low speeds and stalls under load, is clogging of the exhaust gas spark arrester with combustion products, which prevents normal exhaust. Repair in this case consists in removing the muffler, disassembling (if it is collapsible) and wet cleaning it from carbon deposits using detergents. The non-dismountable muffler is dried with a hairdryer after washing. Remember that carbon deposits contain substances that are carcinogenic and should not be dry cleaned, which could result in inhalation. When removing the muffler, plug the engine outlet with a clean cloth.

    Some of the reasons a muffler can clog. this is the use of a fuel mixture with an excessive amount of oil (the amount of oil is more than the manufacturer recommends), and the use of either oil not intended for two-stroke engines or low-quality oil.

    Cylinder-piston group. Malfunctions of the cylinder-piston group are among the most serious. This is the worn out cylinder and piston, scratches and scuffs on their surfaces, wear or sinking in the grooves of the piston rings, wear on the crankshaft bearings. Most of these faults lead to a drop in cylinder pressure and, as a consequence, to the inability to start the engine, or its inability to deliver full power. There are several ways to assess the state of the cylinder-piston group (CPG).

    You can remove the muffler and look through the opened window, in which part of the side surface of the cylinder is visible. Despite the limited review, a general idea of the state of the CPG in this way can still be obtained.

    It is useful to measure the compression in the engine, which is quite informative regarding the condition of the parts of the CPG. The operation is carried out using a compressometer installed in the candle hole.

    The crankshaft is turned using an electric motor (drill) with a flexible shaft or manually with a starter, while controlling the pressure on a pressure gauge. The latter for a working chainsaw should be at least 8-9 atm (0.8-0.9 MPa). With its decrease, the engine power also decreases. At a pressure of 5 atm, the engine may work, but only at idle.

    It is possible to accurately assess the state of the CPG only by completely disassembling the engine. by disconnecting the crankcase from the cylinder and removing the piston. If the latter has seizures, chips or deep scratches, it must be replaced. With regard to the cylinder, if the surface is worn out or damaged, it is possible to bore it to the repair size. The reason for the low compression can be wear or coking of the piston ring. A serviceable ring should be clean from carbon deposits, sit freely in the piston groove and press tightly against the inner surface of the cylinder.

    Chain brake

    DIY chainsaw repair

    All chainsaw malfunctions can be divided into two main groups: engine malfunctions with all its components and systems (ignition, fuel supply system, cylinder-piston group, exhaust system) and malfunctions of other units (chain brake, lubrication system, clutch, tire, etc.).

    Chain lubrication system

    In case of significant (small is considered normal) oil leakage, it is necessary to check the tightness of the connection of the pipes to the pump unions. They can subside or crack. Violation of the tightness of the oil line, except for drips, can lead to insufficient lubrication of the chain. The pump begins to suck in air, which affects its performance. The violation of the tightness is eliminated by replacing the tubes or sealing them with a sealant.

    The most serious failure of the lubrication system is cracks in the oil pump housing. In this case, it will have to be replaced.

    Replacement of wearing parts

    If you do not replace wearing parts in time, their excessive wear will adversely affect the rest of the chainsaw. In particular, if the tire and drive sprocket are not changed in time, the increased vibration will adversely affect the crankshaft bearings. The maximum depth of the sprocket teeth must be 0.5 mm. In practice, sprockets are often operated to a wear depth of 1 mm or more. unaware that this leads to an increased load on the crankshaft bearings and their accelerated failure. When 3-4 chains are worn, it is necessary to change the tire itself, by which time its wear reaches its limit values.

    Chainsaw bar wears especially in the area that is cut most often, usually. this is the underside of the guide bar. For even wear, with each chain change, the bar must be turned 180 ° relative to the horizontal axis.

    When installing a new chain, install a new drive sprocket. Since the life of the drive sprocket is twice the life of the chain under normal load, it is advisable to use one sprocket for alternating operation of the two chains. This allows the sprocket and chains to wear out almost at the same time. If a new chain is placed on a worn sprocket, the drive links of the chain wear out much faster. To operate your chainsaw economically, always use together: one guide bar, two chain sprockets, four saw chains.
