What it is?

The cultivator type nozzles on the gas trimmer are attachments for cultivating the land. In fact, it is a cultivating unit through which it is possible to simplify the processing of a small plot of land.

Advantages and disadvantages

Given that this device is performed with high-quality assembly, it is durable, which cannot but please the user. The devices themselves really simplify the work of the summer resident and allow you to speed up his work.

With regard to the disadvantages of nozzles-cultivators for gas trimmer, many buyers note their weight. The weight deficiency of the device is the reason that, faced with complex soil, it may not go deep into the soil at all, but only scratch its top layer. In addition, as practice shows, in such nozzles it is impossible to press the cutters to the ground. This is fraught with the fact that the rod begins to spring, and, as a result, the equipment wears out quickly.

If you try to squeeze the device harder to the ground, the rod does not stand up and bends, which can cause the braid to break or the working nozzle itself. The drive rod is quite long; during cultivation, vibrations cannot be avoided, the magnitude of which is directly related to the length of the rod itself. In addition, it depends on the complexity of the treated area, because the load on the disks and cutters in the case of dense soil will be greater.

Holding a vibrating instrument for a long time is difficult, as is controlling it. In this case, it is also worth knowing that constant work with a vibrating tool can be fraught with negative consequences for human health. For example, constant vibration can damage the blood vessels and nerves in the fingers of those who have problems with blood supply. With prolonged use of the lawn mowing with a cultivation nozzle, problems are also possible in healthy people.

If you already take a hitch for cultivating the land, then it is better to choose a disk option. It is equipped with a safety cover, although this somewhat complicates the user’s work. As for the independent manufacture of the nozzle, this process does not always give an effective result. In addition to the fact that the work of making a sample for cultivating the soil is laborious, it does not always work out in high quality and reliable. Moreover, far from always self-made products cope with turf.

To clean the cutters, remove the equipment. In addition, from time to time the device needs to be lubricated with oil. Given the sharpness of the blade, work should be done with gloves. In the process of cultivating the soil can not go to high speed. In order to correctly put on the protective shield with the fishing line limiter, it is necessary to remove the restrictive nut from it, insert the bracket into the slot and rotate the screen until it passes through the bracket groove. After that, tighten the wing nut tightly onto the bolt.

To install the nozzle on the lawn mowing, it is necessary to remove the cork from the hitch bar. After this, the connection is made so that the blocking (releasing) button enters the recess on the hitch. Push the nozzle forward until the button clicks into place. Before starting the workflow, tighten the handle firmly by turning it clockwise. If the holes do not fit, such a nozzle cannot be used for an existing gas trimmer.

Depending on the variety, the device may or may not have a cutter. On this basis, it can be classified into gear or disk. Products of the first type are characterized by the presence of cutters, which are located on both sides of the drive shaft. The second options work through cutting discs. However, the presence or absence of cutters does not affect the functionality – the cultivator nozzles for a gas trimmer are bought for loosening the soil.

The differences between the varieties are in the type of soil that the cultivator heads themselves handle. For example, varieties of the toothed type are lighter, however, because of this, they are not able to process complex soil. Disk analogues can work not only with light soil. These nozzles are characterized by greater rigidity, they are stronger and more durable.

Design and mounting options

The design of such a device, as a rule, is equipped with one or two pairs of cutting parts. They are attached to the trimmer instead of the gearbox at the bottom of the rod or near the motor of the device. Lawn mowing is carried out by burning liquid fuel. In order to enhance the strength and reliability of the structure, it has a direct reinforced bar with a diameter of at least 25 mm. The boom is designed for optimal workload.

Based on the type of device, it often provides for the adjustment of the working width of the cutting elements. As a rule, its indicators vary between 13-25 cm. As for disk nozzles-cultivators for gas trimmer, their design can be equipped not only with a pair, but also with several disks with blades fixed to them, bent at a certain angle. As a rule, these hinges also have a protective flap that prevents the ingress of earth during the operation of the device.

The transmission of torque from the engine of the gas trimmer to the hitch is carried out by means of a shaft arranged in a rod. Such a node is not interchangeable, in addition, it differs in the number of slots available on the end of the rod. There are 7 or 9 of them. This feature is taken into account when selecting a hitch to the existing gas trimmer. The cultivator nozzle on the lawn mowing with an input shaft of 9 splines and a 26 mm bar is mounted instead of the lower gear.

The slotted disc connection technique allows freedom of movement of cutting parts. This is convenient specifically for cultivating the soil, as it allows loosening of the earth with wide capture in one pass. In this case, there is no need for a large amplitude of movement of the rod.

How to choose?

When buying a cultivator nozzle for lawn mowers, in addition to the engine power of the gas trimmer, several factors are based. This is the width of the processing, weight, diameter of the cutters and the number of revolutions per minute. On average, the diameter of the cutters can be 20 cm, the number of revolutions – 180.

As for the design of the rod, it is useless to buy a cultivation nozzle for a flexible shaft, it will disable the unit quickly enough. An ideal option would be to buy a product with a multi-spline rod paired with a cardan drive. Such an aggregate will show itself in work more efficiently and will be distinguished by reliability. To ensure that the engine does not overheat, it is important that the power be at least 1000 watts, otherwise labor productivity will decrease.

Operational Features

Given the capabilities of the trimmer and the nozzle itself, work with a hitch is carried out until the period when the weeds have not yet grown and strengthened. So, the user’s work will be more effective, because it’s easier to cut short grass than to fight with coarse and thick stems. Timely loosening of the soil with the help of a cultivator nozzle will contribute to the accelerated growth and strengthening of planted crops and, as a result, high productivity.

It is important to securely attach the nozzle to the gas trimmer. It is important to consider the fact that not every gardener will be able to work a lawn mowing with a cultivator nozzle, the reason for which is the weight of the scythe and the weight. If the engine of the unit is not designed for a power of more than 1500 W, this nozzle can only be used no more than a cultivator or a light hardener. It is important to understand that the nozzle for cultivating the soil by means of a lawn mower does not in any way replace the unit for weeding, plowing and hilling. This is a mini device for small purposes.

Knives rotating during operation are quite dangerous, and therefore, work with a gas trimmer should be extremely careful. Do not try to remove knives from weeds when the device is turned on. This can only be done with the engine completely stopped. Do not grab the knives with your hands or try to block them. Inspect the device in a timely manner, eliminating breakdowns, as well as worn parts.

You need to refuel the unit on the street. It is important to ensure that there is no leakage of oil or fuel. Engine overheating must not be allowed. In the process, the operator should be away from rotating elements, as cutters can damage the limbs. Before you start work, you need to inspect the territory of future processing and rid it of solid objects. For example, it is advisable to get rid of stones that can cause a stop, or even a breakdown of the cutters.

You will learn more about the cultivator nozzle for a gasoline trimer from the video below.

By purchasing a gas trimmer, the owners of country houses and summer cottages receive a fairly powerful and autonomous tool for various agricultural work. Moreover, manufacturers often offer various nozzles for them – brush cutters, dead wood choppers, blowers … Today we will talk in detail about the cultivator nozzle for the trimmer.

Design and mounting options

The cultivator nozzle comes in two versions:

  • A disc, the cutting organs of which are a pair of cutting discs;
  • Toothed, which is a series of cutters sequentially located on the shaft.

The fundamental difference lies only in the design of the cultivating unit. Disk nozzles are harder and therefore suitable for processing heavier soils, while toothed ones have a lower dead weight, but are designed for work on lighter soils.

The transmission of torque from the trimmer motor to the cultivator nozzle is carried out using a special shaft, which is arranged in a special rod (it will have to be purchased separately). This node is not interchangeable, and differs in the number of slots on the end of the rod: there may be seven or nine. Therefore, when planning to purchase a cultivator attachment, you need to understand that the Oleo-Mac attachment will not work with the Husqvarna trimmer, as well as vice versa.

The splined way of attaching discs or milling cutters to the shaft allows free movement of the cutting organs, which is ideal for cultivation, since it allows loosening the soil with a sufficiently wide grip (up to 200 … 250 mm per pass), without requiring a large amplitude of movement of the rod. Also removed are the restrictions on the density of the beds located on the site. With the extension of the beds, the convenience of working with the nozzle in question increases, since the turns will have to be done much less often.

Features of the nozzle

Any cultivator nozzle for the trimmer significantly increases the weight of the entire device assembly (by at least 5 … 6 kg). Therefore, long-term work with such an instrument is not for everyone. It is also necessary to introduce mechanical constraints on the power of the trimmer drive into the calculation. If the engine is designed for a power of no more than 1500 W, then the cultivator can only be cultivated with regularly loosened soil, or limited to hilling of breasts, potato bushes, etc.

Since the drive of gasoline trimmers is located behind the working one, and the drive rod is quite long, vibrations constantly occur during cultivation. Their value is determined by both the length of the rod and the changing load on the disks or mills. These vibrations are transmitted through the shoulder strap to the user’s hands, so it’s not always convenient to control the trimmer’s power button and hold the canopy. Therefore, prolonged soil cultivation using a cultivator nozzle is unsafe for health.

But not everything is so bad: the mobility of the gas trimmer makes it easy to cultivate the soil between the rows, and the absence of wheels on the mounted cultivator does not damage the plants on the beds.

The cultivator nozzle “does not like” compacted soil, and when it is first introduced into such soil, the rod drops sharply. Therefore, disk cultivators are equipped with a safety casing (toothed milling cutters are more likely to bend than break, although in this case a low protective shield from the legs would not hurt). The presence of a safety screen affects the visibility of the cultivator.

Is it worth it to do the cultivator nozzle yourself?

The price factor has a significant impact on the choice: whether to purchase such a nozzle, or to make it yourself. High-quality cultivator nozzles for the trimmer can be purchased at a price of 11,000 … 20,000 rubles, which justifies itself only with large volumes of work. It is inappropriate to buy such a node even in cases when the cultivated soil is heavy (for example, chernozem or loam): the cultivator does not raise the soil, but only moves the clods of earth from one place to another, moreover, together with the roots of the weeds or grass pulled out.

The technology for caring for vegetation will change: first, with a nozzle-knife, it is worth walking through the beds, cutting grass, and only then use the cultivator nozzle.

Having decided on the independent manufacture of the cultivator attachment to the trimmer, you should first evaluate the following:

  1. The design of the outlet section of the boom: if it is a flexible shaft, then you will have to forget about the cultivator: it will not be able to withstand constantly changing torques in amplitude. The cardan transmission is more functional, and the most successful design is the multi-spline rod, moreover, direct, and not curved.
  2. Drive power: if it is less than 1000 watts, the engine will overheat, and cultivation performance will drop sharply.
  3. Fuel tank volume: energy consumption will increase significantly, since the cultivator nozzle will have to be made from improvised materials. Therefore, the tank must contain at least 1 liter of fuel.
  4. Handle design. Ergonomic experts believe that the most convenient is the T-shaped handle, which provides the most accurate and reliable direction. It is difficult to hold a gas trimmer with a cultivator attachment, which is common in some models with a J-shaped handle.

If the existing trimmer meets the above requirements, and its owner has sufficient experience in performing such work, then it is quite possible to make a disk nozzle with your own hands. As for the gear type nozzles, their independent production is very time-consuming, and will not provide the desired quality.
