Hello, dear readers!
I recently went to buy all sorts of metal for the shop at the scrap yard, in other words on scrap metal. Went through mountains of different iron stuff, choosing something necessary for myself. And in one place I saw an angle grinder, or rather what is left of it. I took it to evaluate it visually. It turned out that the gearbox was not broken at first sight. Since almost all lathes have good reducers and from them you can invent many things, in terms of homemade devices, it was decided to take it. When I came home, of course I disassembled it, removed old grease from the gearbox, added new grease. It turned out, as in most cases, burned out the armature, well, brushes and wires were missing. When I started assembling it, I came up with a pretty interesting idea of how it can be used in this version and what needs to be redone in it. I must admit that I did not know at the beginning what the outcome would be, because it was more of an experiment, but I was totally satisfied with the results.
I even shot a detailed video of what and how I made it, I hope you will be interested.
To redo a non-working angle grinder I needed:
- A small piece of rubber, reinforced hose
- A non-working electric screwdriver (gear box is broken)
- A hot glue gun with a good glue
- Inoperable angle grinder
First of all we disassemble the angle grinder into two parts. Remove the gearbox with an anchor.
On the plastic case you need to remove the extra part for this modification with the help of working angle grinder.
Also saw off the armature from the gearbox, leaving about 15 mm.
Disassembling the old non-working electric screwdriver. From it I need first of all the motor itself with the gear. I remove the pinion from the motor shaft and press it into a piece of metal pipe, the same diameter as the shaft on the gearbox.
I put the pressed gear wheel on the motor shaft from an electric screwdriver, where it was. Now you need to connect the motor and gearbox from the angle grinder. For this I took a regular reinforced hose of the right diameter, cut it and put it on the shafts, and connected them together. Tighten it with hose clamps to keep it tight. The advantage of such a connection is that the hose dampens vibrations and irregularities of the connection. Well, no need to go to the turner.
Then I decided to use the button from an electric screwdriver, as with it you can easily adjust the speed and switch the direction of rotation, reverse. It might be useful if you use it to polish the body of a car for example. Since the button and the battery are well located in the handle of an electric screwdriver, I decided to saw it off and connect it to the angle grinder in one piece.
I have been buying good quality hot melt glue for a couple of years now. It does not freeze in cold weather, glues really good, and the price of 10 pieces only 140 That’s with him and decided to connect these two different parts together.
Installed the battery, testing it in operation. I took a 20mm thick bar and decided to saw it.
I was able to saw without problems, but of course the speed is not enough. Just right for home, though. And for polishing it goes.
