Chain Saw Gloves

Suit Lesorub-2 for working with a chain saw Suit Timber-2 for working with a chain saw Technoavia offers a new version of the popular set of personal protective equipment for workers in logging in Russia

Technoavia offers a new version of the popular personal protective equipment for forestry workers

1/4 of the world’s timber reserves are located in Russia. The Russian timber industry is a set of branches of the Russian industry associated with the harvesting and processing of timber, and this is one of the oldest branches of the economy.

In the structure of the timber industry, the primary link is logging, which means felling trees in the forest, followed by the development of timber.

From time immemorial, the main tools of the woodcutter were the ax and the saw. With the development of technology, the tools of woodcutters were improved and chainsaws, electric saws appeared, and later special machines and computerized harvesters for logging.

However, today the most common tool for work is still a chainsaw: unpretentious, productive and efficient. Taking into account the fact that the work is carried out with a moving cutting chain, a trained, trained and reliably protected worker must be allowed to work with the chainsaw.

Technoavia, one of the leading Russian manufacturers of workwear and safety footwear, pays great attention to the equipment of lumberjacks.

In this review, we take a look at a complete set of personal protective equipment for forestry workers based on a summer suit designed and manufactured by the company.

Protection of the head, hearing, vision

Technoavia recommends a POSOMZ® helmet manufactured by the Suksun Optical and Mechanical Plant for a logger’s set.

Helmet RFI-3 BIOT ™ RAPID BIOT Rapid the basis; complementing it with a front mesh screen and protective earmuffs, we obtain an effective means of protection with a complex of protective properties.

Chain Saw Gloves

Headphones SOMZ-5 Storm with a helmet mount, they provide acoustic protection of 27 dB, have a partially selective noise absorption, they distinguish between speech and danger signals, which is so necessary when working with a loud chainsaw.

Shield KS / L Steel protects the face. A screen made of a fine-mesh metal mesh 0.7 × 0.7 mm, edged with plastic for reinforcement.

Why mesh? A lumberjack screen made of metal mesh is preferable, as shields with clear polycarbonate glass will wear out faster from abrasion.
Fastening of the face shield to the protective helmet is carried out by means of a lifting-fixing device made of cold-heat-resistant material, which guarantees reliable fixation of the face shield in two positions up and down. The adapter is designed to be worn at the same time.

Helmet, earmuffs, visor are designed for use in the temperature range from.50 to 50 C.

Chainsaw cut protection gloves

Another important element of the glove kit.

Tegera® 951 Gloves for protection against cuts by a chain saw, a specialized model of the Swedish company Ejendals, designed to protect the hands when working with electric and chainsaws.

Made of top quality grain cowhide with a thickness of 1.01.2 mm. Protection is provided by Dyneema® fiber located on the back of the glove in 22 layers (in both gloves), as well as a reinforced index finger construction and reinforced fingertips. For a secure fit on the cuffs with Velcro fasteners.

The fluorescent lemon yellow back and reflective piping enhance visibility.

The lining has an antibacterial finish.

Suit Lumberjack-2. Beaver and saw-resistant knitwear

Summer men’s suit Lumberjack-2 is designed to protect against cuts with a chain saw, complies with the requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union TR CU 019/2011 and GOST 12.4.277-2014 (EN 381-5: 1995, EN 381-11: 2002) SSBT. Protective clothing for work when using hand chain saws. Protective devices. Technical requirements.

According to this GOST, Lumberjack-2 corresponds to 1 class of protection (protection against cuts by a moving chain saw at a speed of 20 m / s).

The maximum level of worker safety and comfort is achieved through a combination of multi-layer overlays of Avertic saw-resistant knitwear from the Swedish company Engtex and Foreman fabric from the Belgian company Concordia.

Foreman’s beaver construction and DuPont ™ Teflon® oil and water repellent finish provide protection from a variety of contaminants and make the suit easy to clean.

Foreman fabric is durable and wear-resistant, resistant to bad weather conditions. The resistance of the fabric to tearing loads is 2 times higher than that of similar mixed fabrics.

A very important property of the fabric for working in the forest, high density does not allow blood-sucking insects to bite through it.

Lumberjack-2 suit for working with a chain saw

Saw-resistant knitted fabric is a high-tech material made of fibers of a special structure that does not absorb water, while maintaining its protective and strength characteristics
Structurally, the protection area is a package of materials with saw-resistant knitwear that effectively protects against cuts with a saw operating at a speed of 20 m / s. If accidentally cut, the fibers become entangled in the saw chain and stop it instantly.

The protection area of the suit complies with the standard and covers: the top of the jacket and sleeves, the collar; on trousers of design B (with straps) the front of the trousers with the transition to the back side along the side and crotch seams.

The area of protection of the trousers even exceeds the requirements of GOST, taking into account that the suit will be used by both right-handers and left-handers (both side parts of the trousers are reinforced from the back side).

The suit has several original design solutions that increase comfort.

Let’s take a close look at the details:

Taking into account the multi-layered design of the suit, special attention is paid to ventilation.

Ventilation inserts in double knitted mesh are provided in the armpit area.

The design of the pockets in the reliefs with zippers excludes the ingress of industrial debris and the possibility of the pocket catching on a knot or a mechanism element.

There are ventilation cavities on the trousers, in the area behind the knee fold. The air exchange rate can be adjusted with a zipper, the knitted mesh prevents insects from entering.

The suit has a yoke made of Foreman fabric of a bright fluorescent red color and is equipped with signaling elements made of a reflective tape 50 mm wide, therefore it is clearly visible in the dark and in bad weather.

Chainsaw gloves

The chain saw is one of the most dangerous household and professional tools. Failure to comply with safety regulations or improper use of the chain saw can result in serious injury. Working with her requires a high degree of concentration.

Make sure the saw chain is not in contact with anything before starting work. A moment of inattention while using the chain saw can cause the chain to become entangled in your clothing or body parts.

Always grip the rear handle with your right hand and the front handle with your left. Swapping arms increases the risk of injury.

Use safety glasses and earplugs. It is recommended to use additional protective equipment for the head, hands and feet (hard hat, strong leather protective gloves, long trousers made of strong fabric, sturdy shoes). Proper protective clothing reduces the risk of injury from flying particles or accidental contact with the saw chain.

Do not use the chain saw on a tree. Using the chain saw on a tree can cause injury.

Always stand firmly on your feet; use the saw only while standing on a stable, secure and level surface. A slippery or unstable surface (such as a ladder) can cause you to lose balance or lose control of the chain saw.

When cutting off a branch under load, be aware of the possible kickback. When the tension in the fibers of the tree is removed, the branch may hit the operator and / or knock the chain saw out of the hands.

Take extra care when cutting shrubs and young trees. The saw chain can get stuck in flexible material, causing you to be whipped by a branch, or you could lose your balance from a jerk.

When cutting logs, use a reliable support (trestle).

Recoil
Dangerous kickback can occur when the chain saw is in operation. Kickback occurs when the end of the tire (particularly the top quarter) comes into contact with wood or other hard object. This causes the chain saw to bend towards the operator.

To prevent kickback, observe the following:

Hold the tool securely with both hands, wrap your fingers around the handles of the chain saw. Stand so that you can resist the force of recoil. With appropriate safety precautions, the operator can control the recoil force. Do not let go of the chain saw.

Do not try to reach anything or cut above shoulder height. This will help prevent unintentional blade tip contact and better control the chain saw in unexpected situations.

Use replacement bars and chains only of the type recommended by the manufacturer. Using other replacement bars and chains may cause the chain to break and / or kickback.

Follow instructions for lubricating, tensioning the chain and changing accessories. An improperly tensioned or oiled saw can break or increase the chance of kickback.

Carry the chain saw only by the front handle, off and away from your body. Always wear the bar cover when transporting or storing the chain saw. Proper handling of the chain saw reduces the risk of accidentally touching the moving chain.

Overalls for working with a chainsaw.

Greetings Comrades! When I published an article on Survival about 180 Stihl, a question about work clothes for working with a chainsaw surfaced in the comments, so I am writing about special gear here. I say right away that the graphs are not mine, but taken from the manufacturer’s website, and I take the data from their website, my only comments. Here I will only talk about what I myself used.

The FIORDLAND® Lumberjack Jacket is made from water-repellent 4-way stretch fabric. It is composed of 93% polyester and 7% spandex. It has a low level of protection, so it can be used for simple forestry work.

To improve air exchange in the armpits and in the strap on the back, special slots are provided, and to increase the strength on the elbows and cuffs, inserts of their black Cordura material, resistant to splinters and thorns, are stitched. The sleeves have snap fasteners (2 outside and 1 inside) and a wrist strap with a lock for adjustment. To prevent the ingress of wood chips into the sleeves, hidden cuffs are provided. The inner side of the collar is made of corduroy, which is pleasant to the body. The outer side of the jacket is finished with silver reflective stripes for increased safety at night.

The FIORDLAND® lumberjack jacket features a durable and corrosion-resistant Vislon® YKK zipper, as well as the two front pockets. A button tie is provided for adjusting the length of the waist. The inner pocket (for a mobile phone) is equipped with a slider. Each jacket comes with a repair kit included in the package.
The jacket is not bad, but not for the money that it is being sold now, it burns out in the sun, the drizzle keeps for about 4 hours, then it gets wet. Not enough pockets. Yes, and on the Magnet network I was constantly confused with the staff. Conclusion: nafig is not needed, some show-off.

YUKON Oregon Lumberjack Safety Trousers

5 layers of protective fabric;
Cutting protection EN 381-5 Class 1 (20 m / s);
Elastic material (polyester, stretch);
Lightweight and comfortable;
Durable;
Heat and moisture resistant;
Good air permeability;
2 large front pockets 1 back pocket with Velcro;
In reality, the saw chain stops on the move. There were a couple of cases, my legs were not even cut. But in warm weather it is hot in them, in the forest it is not very convenient to work in them. And a protective layer only in the front. Behind one layer of fabric, I have new ones lying around, maybe someday they will come in handy.

Oregon 91305 Chainsaw Gloves (Left Hand Guard)

Cut protection for left hand only. Protection class complies with international standards Design A, EN381-7: 1999 Class 0 (16 m / s);
Protection against both impacts EN388: 2003 3142;
Smooth well-crafted leather provides comfortable work;
Bright orange color;
Provide a comfortable and firm grip of the working tool;
Reinforced abrasion-resistant palm area;
Fixed with elastic cuff on the wrist;
Certified.

This model provides protection for only the left hand of the lumberjack.
How does the Oregon 91305 glove protector work? When the chain of the chainsaw hits the hand, the surface of the glove rips open, and the fibers of the ballistic nylon in a few milliseconds entwine the chain and the sprocket of the chainsaw. The tool jams and stops immediately.
Working with no habits is not convenient, the left glove is too thick. Protection only from the top, just leather on the palm. They are not needed. Better to take these:

Hard-wearing leather on palms and fingers;
Stretch material of four-sided stretch provides comfort in use;
Oregon 539171 gloves are ideal for working with a trimmer, brush cutter, lawn mower, sharpeners;
Comfortable grip and excellent operational control;
Velcro strap around the wrist;
Certified.
Working gloves from the Oregon company are made of a combined material: fabric and smooth leather. The elastic fabric of the gloves provides additional comfort to the hand and the necessary breathability, and the durable leather reliably protects the hands from all kinds of injuries.
Work gloves are of high quality, so they will be a good choice for work on the garden plot and when servicing garden equipment. The tight-fitting material perfectly fits the hand and does not interfere with the performance of any operations, and the smooth skin reliably holds any instrument, preventing possible slippage.
Gloves are comfortably fixed on the wrist with a tight-fitting elastic cuff, which additionally protects the hands from the penetration of small debris. A demo try-on pack containing the full color range of Oregon work gloves is available as an option.
Gloves are good, I have been using them for several years. I liked it shorter. Price 450 rubles. They also have leather, for 200 rubles. More expensive but did not use these.

Oregon Chainsaw Trimmer Knee Pads, Shin Guard

Oregon Professional Knee Pads provide excellent protection for gardening equipment such as brush cutters and trimmers. They provide reliable protection of the lower leg and knee joint from possible damage. For added comfort, the inner part of the knee pads is lined with soft fabric.

Thanks to the well thought-out design, the pads are lightweight, do not interfere with movements and are comfortable for prolonged wear. The rigid construction only covers the front of the leg, so it doesn’t get hot even on hot days. Reliable carabiners made of durable plastic make it easy to put on the knee pads, securely fix and quickly remove at the end of work.
This is a really convenient thing, I took my father-in-law to an inveterate fisherman, he will not be overjoyed. Protects both the shin and the knee, the wheels on the car are also convenient to change, the pants do not get dirty. Bent sticks do not penetrate them. Tested for clarifications. The price is 1100 rubles, a year and a half ago, the price was somewhere around 350.

As for shoes, the most common shoe is boots, preferably with a steel toe, if the saw flies off, don’t cut off your toes. If I have to cut, it’s usually in ankle boots, it’s more convenient for me.

Yukon Oregon Lumberjack Helmet 562412

Yukon Oregon 562412. The professional impact-resistant polypropylene helmet will reliably protect the face, eyes and hearing organs of the lumberjack and feller.
Complies with international standards EN 397, EN 352-3, EN 1731
6 vents for high breathability
6-point adjustable straps
Wide wear-resistant stainless steel mesh guard
Comfortable ear protectors with advanced noise cancellation (S / N ratio 25.9dB)
It’s rather inconvenient to use it, a simple helmet is more convenient, and it’s easier to cover your eyes with just glasses, you can’t hear shit in the headphones. Also nafig is not needed. So make your own conclusions, whether you need overalls to work with a chainsaw, if you work with it once a year as promised, it’s up to you.
