Lawn mower house flipper. 5 Chill Games To Play On Your Steam Deck

Chill Games To Play On Your Steam Deck

While the Steam Deck is an amazing piece of technology to play games like Elden Ring on the go, it’s also the perfect way to relax after a day on the job or a day out and about. With such a massive variety of games that are Steam Deck Verified, you won’t have any difficulty finding something that’ll pique your interest. However, if you’re hoping to just sit down, turn off your brain, and do something that’ll help you hit that Zen Zone, we’ve curated a list of some of the most relaxing games you can play on your portable PC.

Some Chill Games To Just Vibe With On Your Steam Deck

When creating this list, I thought of a few different factors; how taxing are they on your mental energy, how easy they are to jump into and enjoy, and if they offer the most immaculate of vibes. There are some real winners here, so take our ranking with a grain of salt, as they’re all incredible games in their own right.

Sticky Business

Ever thought about dropping everything you’re doing and opening up an Etsy Shop? That’s what Sticky Business brings to the table, with surprisingly in-depth sticker creation tools that let you unleash your imagination to its fullest potential and make some of the most adorable creations ever seen on this side of a PC monitor… or in this case, your Steam Deck screen.

It’s a super relaxing time to jump into and enjoy, so be prepared to lose countless hours of your life to this one. It’s also a game that benefits massively from VibrantDeck, so make sure that you’ve got that locked and loaded before jumping into this one. It’s extremely fun and extraordinarily adorable, and also scored top marks from our Commander in Chief here at Prima.

Lil’ Gator Game

Now that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is here, you may be craving something that feels a little more decidedly old-school. Looking at the picture above, you can see an adorable little Gator embarking on an epic adventure to get his older sister to play pretend with him once again, but what you don’t expect is to find one of the best Zelda-likes in recent years.

Sure, you won’t be facing off against Chu-Chu’s or other familiar creatures, but being able to partake in a grand adventure that is inspired by one of your favorite franchises sure sounds like a great time to me. As someone who has been playing Zelda since he could hold a SNES controller, Lil’ Gator Game surprised me with its grand-scale adventure on a smaller budget. It’s a great game to plow through in a weekend, with enough collectibles to bring you back for a few more runs.

House Flipper

Now, House Flipper can be a little stressful, especially if you’re a clean freak like I am. The main goal of this game is exactly as it sounds: buying junk houses and flipping them for cash. However, after spending more time than I would like to admit in this world, I can’t imagine not having it on my Steam Deck. Being able to take this kind of action on the go is more rewarding than one may think, especially if you’ve got a passion for interior design.

With constant updates providing even more items to put in your homes, alongside several DLC packs that go on sale often, you’ll never have to worry about finding the perfect game to plop down on the couch with. Fun fact of the day: I had to buy my wife her own Xbox console so she could play this game on the TV since she overtook my Xbox Series X to keep playing it. Now, I’ve got it on the Steam Deck so she can play wherever we go. It’s that good.

Lawn Mowing Simulator

If you would have told me 10 years ago that I was going to find enjoyment in playing a game about mowing lawns, I would have called you a liar and gone back to playing the latest FPS on the market at the time. But, now that I’m in my golden years (I’m 31), I find quite a bit of fun in games like Lawn Mowing Simulator. Thanks to the lush visuals that pop off of your screen, I’m confident in saying that this is the ultimate Dad Simulator, white Air Monarch IV’s not included. Please add a grilling mini-game for the love of all things holy.

Yes, the main hook of this one is to run your own mowing business, and business is good. Thanks to updates provided by the developer, SkyHook Games, this went from a fairly barebones simulator to one that is absolutely packed into the clipping bag full of features and gameplay elements. It goes on sale regularly, so be sure to give this one a try if you’re hoping to experience something completely different.

Slime Rancher 2

Slime Rancher 2 is another one of those games that just feels right at home on the Steam Deck. While some aspects of the game can be a little stressful, especially if you’re not used to the First Person aiming, you’ll slowly find yourself gravitating toward these Slimes faster than you can upgrade your equipment. In the sequel to the classic Slime Rancher, there are even more creatures to find in the world, more lush environments to explore, and so much more to look forward to.

While this is still in Early Access, meaning that new content is being dripped into the game and bugs are being worked out by the developer, it’s an excellent experience to jump right into and lose yourself with. No matter what kind of gamer you are, there is something here to love for everyone involved.

Honorary Mentions

There are countless cozy games that you can lose yourself in, and while we don’t think these games are any less amazing than anything on the list, we still wanted to give them a spot to shine. Here are our honorary picks to jump into if nothing on our main list stood out to you:

No matter if you’re looking for something new to lose yourself in, or just need something that can help you wind down after a difficult day, any of the games on this list will help you feel refreshed and ready to take on the next big thing you’ve been wanting to do. There are so many excellent comfort games available on the Steam platform, and they work great with the Steam Deck. If you’re running out of space to put more of these cozy games, be sure to learn how to swap the SSD in your Steam Deck, and be sure to check out our section below to learn even more about your favorite handheld console.

Does Milwaukee’s 1,000 Electric Lawn Mower Live Up to the Brand’s Claims?

We tested to find whether you get enough performance from this self-propelled walk mower to justify that price tag.

By Roy Berendsohn Published: Jul 15, 2022

Milwaukee Tool has been earning some hype for its long-expected 2823-22HD battery-powered lawn mower. As it should. The brand is pitching the machine squarely at landscape professionals and making some pretty substantial claims: it delivers instant torque and full motor speed without ramp up–essentially a mow-on-demand capability. Milwaukee also says the 2823-22HD resists stalling and gives you high ground speed and cut quality. Oh yeah, and it costs 1,000.

Because of that four-figure price and the fact that the company is tailoring this lawn mower for landscapers, we wanted to put those claims to the test—and provide some context that might help you determine whether this machine is right for you. Landscaping today is all about high productivity while not sacrificing a well-mowed surface. Landscapers need to pull a mower off the trailer, get the lawn mowed, trimmed, and blown off, and move everything back on the trailer–sometimes in minutes. Profit margins are slim in this work, and its Rapid-fire nature makes it hard on equipment and contractors. Many people in the business refer to it as “mow and blow.”

But do any of the attributes that Milwaukee engineered into this mower for contractors apply to you? Maybe. Given what this mower costs, however, it’s important that you examine that question carefully before you plunk down your hard-earned money.

Let’s say you have a sizable lawn to mow. What you’re looking for is a durable mower with lots of run time. Maybe you’re a remodeling contractor or a house flipper and you need to keep grass at your construction project under control. What you need is a tough mower. Maybe you do maintenance and odd jobs and have the occasional lawn to mow. You don’t pay much attention to the machine or its cut quality or anything else about it; all you need it to do is work every single time you hit the On button.

Does the Milwaukee mower fit for you?

Yes. In the three scenarios we outline above, we can say that the Milwaukee should work well. On the other hand, so will a lot of other mowers. Maybe they won’t work as well or be as durable, but they will work.

So why the Milwaukee? That’s a good question. If you opt for it, you need to have the budget and prize sheer capability. Let’s get into the specifics.

If The Claims Are True

Milwaukee’s motto is “Nothing But Heavy Duty.” We’ve tested the company’s products for decades, and we can attest to that as fact, not hype.

But what does that marketing phrase look like in terms of the 2823-22HD? The mower is quite literally heavy. With both batteries on board and its bag in place, it weighs 84.6 pounds. Its blade motor is massive, as are its two 12-Ah batteries. Each one weighs 3.2 pounds. The mower has a steel deck with a rolled edge and a 1⁄2-inch-diameter steel axle, on which is mounted the drive motor-gear assembly.

We put the mower to work on our test area where the grass was normal height (about 6 inches) but extremely coarse, dry, and tough, with far more thatch in it than it has normally. That thatch is due to a summer’s worth of mowing with commercial mowing equipment set to mulch the clippings back into the grass. Literally, the test area was plugged with grass clippings.

On a hot and windy July morning, we went to work. Here’s what we found.

Claim: Instant torqueVerdict: True. There’s no ramp up of motor speed here. From the moment you start this mower, you’re ready to cut. Be prepared to step away quickly from the starting line because this mower will plunge ahead and you better be able to keep up with it. In fact, we’d advise that you set the speed dial (with options 1 through 5) to a middle setting that will help you find your pace and cut quality before turning up the ground speed. Otherwise, at top speed, the mower vaults forward so quickly you may inadvertently lift the front wheels (pop a wheelie, if you will).

The mower’s speed control is infinitely adjustable between five speeds, 1 through 5. Turn the dial with your thumb and press on the thumb paddle at the handle.

Two massive 12-Ah batteries slide into the battery bay. Fully charged, they provide an hour of run time.

Claim: One-hour run timeVerdict: True. We mowed 10,890 square feet of grass (nearly a quarter of an acre) in less than an hour and also ran a bagging test. We think Milwaukee’s time rating is realistic under normal mowing conditions. If you have to bring a lawn with knee-high grass under control, you should expect less battery life. On the other hand, this is one of the few battery lawn mowers we’ve tested that strikes us as being capable of handling a job like that. If you’re just trimming the tips of the grass, we wouldn’t be surprised if this mower will cut for more than an hour—maybe even much more.

Claim: Exceptional cutting, bagging, and mulchingVerdict: It depends. Before we get too deep into the specifics of how this mower performed mulching and bagging, we need to discuss a unique feature on it, one we’ve never seen before: a “high lift mode” setting. Press the button with a blade icon on the left side of the handle and increase the motor and blade speed for improved mulching and bagging. Using the setting, however, depletes the battery charge more quickly. We think this is best saved for the most severe conditions such as thick, wet grass or when bagging leaves in the fall. Like most battery mowers, the 2823-22HD’s blade speed increases automatically when you run into thick patches of grass. For all but the most severe cutting conditions, that feature is enough.

Our mowing conditions were so harsh that they did not permit us to completely verify cut quality. This Milwaukee will leave a nicely mowed surface. Our test grass was dry and brittle, more liable to break than cut. So like with any mower, we had to adjust its mowing height and especially its ground speed to suit the grass. We emphasize speed adjustment here because this Milwaukee is extremely fast—the fastest self-propelled lawn mower we’ve ever tested.

In our first cut at full speed, the 2823-22HD plowed ahead so readily, we had no feedback that it was struggling at all. But its cut quality was terrible. We raised the mower deck and kept the ground speed at its top setting (5) and tried it again. The cut improved, but we still weren’t satisfied with it. Finally, we left the mower at its height setting but dialed back the speed by a notch and a half (about at 3.5). At that point, we produced an acceptable level of mulching and finished appearance. This is the same tradeoff and adjustment that you would have to do with any mower, gas or electric.

In terms of bagging, we can say that the mower bags very well. We made four 145-foot passes with it and found the bag was full to the point of the grass in the back being compressed.

Final analysis: This is a versatile, fast-moving lawn mower. To us, its strong suit isn’t so much that it leaves a good cut quality and mulches well. Lots of mowers do that. This one performs those tasks and has a high degree of adjustability due to the quick control you have over its deck height, ground speed, motor speed, and, of course, whether you’re mulching, bagging or using the side discharge chute.

What Else You Get

A large comfortable lever adjusts the mower’s height. It’s easy to move both up and down. Slip it out of one notch and into another.

For your money, you also get the complete set of mower features: single-point deck-height adjustment, tall rear wheels (10.25 inches in diameter), a pair of LED headlights (mounted on the side of the deck), and a fold-flat handle that lets you store the 2823-22HD on end, standing upright. Finally, the high-quality bag and its robust frame lift straight up through the handle for easier dumping.

The 2823-22HD mower is expensive, but it’s a lot of machine. It offers good cut quality, mulching, and bagging, excellent ground speed, and a high degree of adjustability. Whether the market accepts a 1,000 walk-behind mower remains to be seen. But this mower could push the boundary of features in a product category in which it’s hard to innovate.

Lawn Mowing Simulator Review (Xbox Series) – A Cut Above

A serene yet engaging experience, Lawn Mowing Simulator is your next simulator fix. The Finger Guns Review.

A serene yet engaging experience, Lawn Mowing Simulator is your next simulator fix. The Finger Guns Review.

There’s a reasonably high probability that you’ve arrived at this Lawn Mowing Simulator review from a review/news aggregation site and you already know the review score at the bottom of this page. There’s an equally high likelihood that before you read this sentence, you had scrolled to the bottom of this review, have seen the review score and returned here to find out how in the hell a game about mowing grass got an 8/10 score. Trust me – I’m as surprised as you are. I hate mowing my lawn. It’s easily my most hated household chore. Imagine my shock then when I sat playing – and enjoying – Skyhook Games’ Lawn Mowing Simulator till the early hours of the morning without even noticing.

The mowing jobs are set around a variety of idyllic country settings with various outdoor setups. Some locations are traditional gardens with flower beds and garden furniture. Others look like outdoor modern art galleries. The more jobs you complete, the higher your reputation rises, the bigger the variety and challenge of jobs on offer. This system gives the game a decent amount of variety. You will start to see repetition eventually but this plays into the overall concept as they appear as repeat customers.

Each job in Lawn Mowing Simulator comes with an objective. The primary aim is to mow a target percentage of the grass in each level to a target length as dictated by the customer. For example, you might be asked to mow down 99.5% of the grass to a length of 7cm. By hitting this objective, you’ll receive the maximum pay out sans any penalties you accrue. You can be penalised for destroying a plant which usually line the borders of a lawn, damaging the ground by turning the mower on maximum turn for extended periods or simply driving into things like walls or furniture.

Before you get to begin you’re mowing, each job begins with a ground check. Here you navigate the outdoor space via a first person view, looking for a set number of items you’ll need to pick up before mowing. Hidden among the grass are rakes, stones, Frisbees and other items which you can remove before tackling the grass. Or, you can simply forgo this step and just mow over these items, getting yourself a penalty and damaging up your mower in the process. It’s your call of course but you’d be daft not to pick up those precious garden gnomes before you get cutting. Once that’s done, you can hop on your lawn mower and get to work.

Mo’ mowers, mow problems

This is where the ‘simulator’ aspect of this game begins. Lawn Mowing Simulator has 12 different real world mowers digitally recreated. I can’t comment on how accurate these digital mower models are because I doubt I’ve ever been within 6 meters of a Toro, STIGA and SCAG mower. To the untrained, mower hater such as myself, they look great. There’s different types of mower too, from rear grass collectors to those with mulching decks that shred the grass so it doesn’t need collecting. Each mower has their own strength and weakness which are highlighted in different environments. For example, the fast, powerful and highly customisable Groundsmaster 3300 will make light work of big open spaces but it’s no good for tight gardens with intricate channels because of its massive 152cm cutting deck. One wrong turn and it’ll chew up a flower bed before you can say “oh sod”.

No matter which mower you choose, there has been some concerted effort put in here to make it feel like you’re starting up a real mower. Holding down an X button to kick it in. Raising the revs with the D pad. Dropping and lifting the cutting deck. Changing the cut length. Having never sat my ample rear end on a ride-on mower, I can’t confirm if this feels realistic or not. Even for a mower newbie like myself though, the game makes me feel like I’m going through a process that gives this a simulator feel.

Then it’s onto the mowing itself which is far more involved than it looks on the surface. The lawns in Lawn Mowing Simulator have blades of grass on them. This might sound like a stupid observation to make but with many simulator games, performing ground work simply changes one texture for another. In this game, you can see the grass and as you mow it, the grass shortens as well as taking a lighter shade. True to life, a lawn won’t all be entirely the same length either. Early on in the game with the less powerful mowers, you’ll have to balance your engine effort and speed to ensure you’re not overdoing it when suddenly coming to a patch of grass which is longer, thus more difficult to mow. You can’t just put your foot down on the accelerator and whip all the grass off. It has to be more measured and restrained so you can keep the mower going for longer.

Over time, the mower blades will dull and the engine will need work. You’ll also have to keep your mowers topped up with fuel. All of this costs money. This all feeds into the career path. Take on jobs to earn money, use that money to maintain your mowers so that you can continue to earn. As you start to build up a nice profit, you can expand your business. You can buy new HQ’s or upgrade your existing one so that it can house more mowers. As your reputation grows, you can hire staff too who can head out to a job while you’re working on another. It’s not exactly a challenging loop and at no point are you likely to feel financially unequipped to move forward, but it’s a nice leisurely hook to keep the player engaged.

So Very Grass-ifying

Outside of the career mode, Lawn Mowing Simulator also has a Free Roam mode and a series of challenges. The challenges unlock alongside your progress in the career mode. These offer a more strenuous test than anything else in the game. They pit the player against a set of circumstances like limited time or fuel with which to get the job done. These aren’t exactly taxing but it does make you think more deeply about the way you’re mowing a lawn. If you’re tight on fuel, you’ve really got to make the most of the size of your deck and the movement, for example. As the name might suggest, Free Roam lets you mow without any predetermined conditions. You can just bumble around a grassy knoll, mowing till your heart’s content.

It’s the serene vibe of Lawn Mowing Simulator which is its biggest strength. While on a job, there’s no music. You’re alone in quiet, open contry spaces that are quite pleasing on the eye. Off in the background are birds chirping, maybe the occasional kid playing in the background, a rare car driving nearby. It’s so peaceful. Of course, as soon as you kick in a mower, that peace is disturbed but it’s replaced by a near constant buzz of white noise. There’s an indescribable sedation that comes from the sound of a lawn mower after a time. This is no word of a lie – my wife has fallen asleep on the couch several times while in the same room as me while playing this game. That might sound like a criticism but the tranquil game play and chilled atmosphere make for such an easy game to get lost in. As previously mentioned, I’ve started to play Lawn Mowing Simulator in the early afternoon and by the next time I check the clock, it’s almost time for breakfast. I got totally engrossed in cutting grass and forming patterns in the lawn as I spiral around it.

Even outside of the game play, Lawn Mowing Simulator understands the genre it’s in. That totally inoffensive backing music you find in almost all simulator games? That’s present and correct too.

Lawn Mowing Simulator does have a few niggles that need to be mentioned. When walking around a garden in the first person mode, the frame rate can be a bit choppy, even on an Xbox Series. The frame rate while driving a mower is silky smooth however. I imagine the frame rate suffers because you’re able to run around in the garden much faster than a lawnmower can travel. I also have to mention the font size. If your eyes aren’t what they used to be, you might want to pull your chair forward to play this game. Some of the default text size was too small for my aging eyes from across my living room.

A few niggles aside, Lawn Mowing Simulator is another game in the blossoming SIM genre that takes workaday tasks and manages to create a zen, ASMR-esque experience that transcends boredom. This game certainly has a niche and won’t be for everyone but it might surprise you with how equally innocuous and engaging it is at the same time. Even for someone who hates mowing their lawn, I found this title to be enjoyable. If you’re looking for a new simulator in the same vein as Farming Simulator, House Flipper or Euro Truck, this certainly could be it.

Lawn Mowing Simulator is available now on Xbox Series S | X (review platform) and PC.

Because while the above Sun Joe mower uses battery power.

The Greenworks Corded Mower uses a household outlet for its power, which has its disadvantages.

As the user is tethered by a cord and must manage the hassle of cord management and keeping the cord away from the blades.

The Bolens Push Gas Lawn Mower is a bit more expensive compared to the first few mowers we’ve looked at, with an average price of 160.

However, with that slight increase in price comes one major benefit, and that’s power.

As the Bolen lawn mower is the first gas-powered lawn mower on this list, offering a 125cc Briggs Stratton engine.

Which gives this mower more power compared to cheaper electric mowers.

Allowing this gas-powered mower from Bolen to cut through tougher grass and more challenging terrain.

And thanks to its larger 20-inch cutting deck, this mower can handle much larger yards.

Where these two similar push powers differ though is their engine.

As the Bolen mower features a 125cc Briggs Stratton engine, while the Yard Machines Gas Mower features a 79cc Yard Machines engine.

Which is a definite downgrade in both performance and reliability.

There’s a considerable price jump for the 125cc Briggs Stratton version though.

As the 125cc Yard Machines mower cost 80 more compared to the 79cc Yard Machines mower from above, with an average price of 250.

Beyond the more powerful engine though, the 79cc version and the 125cc are pretty much the exact same push mower, except for color.

Lawn mowers are generally the cheapest when retailers are looking to clear out their inventories before fall and winter. So if you’re looking for the best deal on a lawn mower, you should buy one in late summer or early fall.Don’t wait too long though, because by mid to late fall most big box stores will stop carrying lawn mowers in their stores, unless you live in a climate where grass grows year-round.

Residential lawn mowers come in various sizes with cutting decks ranging from 14 inches to more than 26 inches. However, for smaller yards that are less than a 1/4 acre, a lawn mower with a cutting deck between 14 inches and 21 inches is all you need.Keep in mind though that a larger cutting deck will cut the lawn faster and more efficiently, but as a trade-off, it will also add more weight to the mower and make it more challenging to maneuver.

Residential self-propelled lawnmowers start at around 350 and top out at around 1,000 for the most expensive versions from brands like Honda and STIHL.
