The Pump Does Not Work On The Trimmer

The engine “shoots

If during operation there are extraneous sounds similar to shots, then there is a problem with the muffler or carburetor. How to make the chainsaw run quietly? It depends on which node the fault is in.

Stalls immediately after launch:

  • The fuel mixture is not prepared correctly, there is too much oil in it, so the octane number of gasoline is less than it should be, so the chainsaw only works on suction or immediately stalls.
  • Spark plug carbon deposits or improper spark plug-to-manual gap.

Chainsaw to saw to the side

When sawing, you will notice that the cut is uneven. Why does a chainsaw cut crooked? There are several reasons:

The Pump Does Not Work On The Trimmer

  • Incorrect chain sharpening. The teeth are sharpened at the wrong angle or in one direction only. Correct sharpening required.
  • Incorrect chain. At very high speeds, the difference even 0.2-0.3 mm between the width of the groove or the width of the landing will be visible, why the chainsaw and saw to the side. An appropriate circuit must be installed.
  • Tire wear is uneven. Over time, the tire wears out on one side and then the chain is pulled to the side. Turning the tire over regularly so that wear is even on both sides. If the wear is too great, replace the tire.

Shoots the carburetor:

  • Ignition too late. the air-fuel mixture DOES NOT have time to burn out in the cylinder, so a sound similar to a small explosion is obtained.
  • Lean air-fuel mixture. Too little gasoline enters the mixture. adjusting the chainsaw, or rather the jets, is required to increase the fuel supply. Why the chainsaw thrusts itself. for the same reason.

It stalls and does not work at idle:

  • Forgotten the muffler. It is necessary to remove carbon deposits.
  • Lost carburetor settings. Idling adjustment required on the chainsaw. It is carried out using the adjusting bolts marked L and H. How to adjust the idle speed, see the article on adjusting the carburetor.

Chainsaw overheating

Why does the chainsaw get hot? The engine or the tire can warm up. in any case, a small amount of lubricant is to blame.

  • Engine overheating. Incorrect proportion of fuel mixture or pure gasoline in general. Drain the fuel and mix with the correct proportions of oil and gasoline as indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Overheating of the tire. Cleaning or adjustment of the oil pump is required, because Oil is supplied to the tire.

Chainsaw starts

If there are difficulties with starting a chainsaw, many immediately sin on the carburetor. In fact, there are several options and any prerequisite for a malfunction can be:

  • Clogged air and / or fuel filters. The problem is solved by cleaning the filters.
  • Lack of fuel in the tank. Yes, there is such a reason. some owners forget about such an insignificant detail as refueling a chainsaw and think that a couple of liters of gasoline will last for six months. In addition, the fuel in the tank does not have to be stored for more than 14 days, since K. Gasoline evaporates and octane number is lost.
  • Check the pipe from the fuel tank to the carburetor. it could be forgotten or cut off, so gasoline does not enter the tank.
  • Spark plug present. Why there is no spark. there can be many reasons: there is no contact, you need to change the candle or it is flooded. Why he pours a candle on a chainsaw is another question. But if this happens, you need to dry and reinstall, and then check for a spark. If the spark plug has Heavy carbon deposits, it is recommended to replace it.
  • Check muffler for carbon deposits. If there is carbon deposits, thoroughly clean the muffler, but it is still recommended to take the chainsaw to a service center to check the cylinder and piston there, because Carbon deposits are a sure sign of improper operation of the elements of the cylinder-piston group.
  • Forgotten carburetor. How to properly adjust the chainsaw so that the carburetor works well was discussed in a separate article.

If none of the above methods helped, then the reason is more serious. the breakdown of one of the nodes of the connecting rod-piston group. In this case, it is recommended to take the chainsaw to a service center.

Stalls at maximum speed and works only on suction

  • Clogged air or fuel filter. Seals need to be cleaned and checked.
  • The breather is clogged and because of this, fuel does not flow and the gasoline pumping on the chainsaw does not work. Take the needle and carefully clean the breather.
  • Fuel pump malfunction. Remove the pump and check if gas is oozing out of it. If oozing. replace the gasket or the pump itself.

The chain does NOT rotate

Why the chainsaw chain does not rotate when the engine is running even at full speed?

  • Leading asterisk. Either it is jammed, or the wear ring is so much that it does NOT engage and the chain is spinning on the chainsaw. In any case, it is necessary to disassemble the sprocket in order to find out the exact reason why the chain does not spin. If the crown is worn out, it is necessary to replace the sprocket (or the crown itself, if the sprocket is of a prefabricated structure).
  • The chain brake is seized. As a result, the sprocket is blocked by the brake mechanism, while the motor runs. Stop the engine and release the brake. If this happened under load, the brake mechanism will have to be changed, as well as the sprocket, because Due to the high temperature, many elements can melt and overheat.

Chain lubrication problems

For proper operation, the chain must be constantly lubricated to reduce friction between the tire and the links, and also prevent premature wear of the links.

  • If the chain is lubricated on the chainsaw, then there is a problem with the oil pump. oil is not supplied due to a clogged channel. Lack of lubrication is the reason why the chain stretches or why the chain breaks. Clean the channels, the smallest particles of shavings constantly get there and clog them. May also cut off the oil hose. If you need to adjust the oil pump of the chainsaw or repair it, it is better to contact the service.
  • Splashes oil from the chain. Incorrectly selected lubricant. it is too thin, therefore it does NOT lubricate the links as much as it splashes on the wood. Replaces grease with a thicker one.

The chain falls

Why does the chain fly off the tire? There may be several reasons and they are all different:

  • The drive or driven sprocket is worn. Due to the fact that the sprocket is worn out, the adhesion to the chain decreases, which is why the chain flies off the chainsaw. Sprocket replacement required.
  • The chain is stretched. Why does the chain stretch on a chainsaw. due to insufficient lubrication. The metal heats up and stretches, even by a fraction of a millimeter, but if you take into account the number of links, then even 3-4 mm is enough for the chain to fly off the tire. The chain needs to be changed.
  • The chain tensioner, which regulates its tension, is loose. How to adjust the chainsaw, or rather the chain tension? You need to adjust the tensioner. this can be done in just a few minutes.

The chain does NOT rotate

If this happened under load, the brake mechanism will have to be changed, as well as the sprocket, because Due to the high temperature, many elements can melt and overheat.

The chain does NOT cut

The decrease in the performance of the chainsaw is due to the bluntness of the chain teeth. This is the most common problem because Sharpening must be done regularly. How to do this using a machine, file or angle grinder, read the corresponding article.

Engine stalls

The engine starts, but the chainsaw stalls at idle or under load. In this case, most often you should perform the same actions as described above.

How to adjust your chainsaw depends on exactly when the problems start:

Chainsaw to saw to the side

When sawing, you will notice that the cut is uneven. Why does a chainsaw cut crooked? There are several reasons:

  • Incorrect chain sharpening. The teeth are sharpened at the wrong angle or in one direction only. Correct sharpening required.
  • Incorrect chain. At very high speeds, the difference even 0.2-0.3 mm between the width of the groove or the width of the landing will be visible, why the chainsaw and saw to the side. An appropriate circuit must be installed.

Why Petrol Trimmer Won’t Start

The reasons why the petrol trimmer stopped starting may be different, so a step-by-step diagnosis of the device is required.

Breather

The breather is a non-return valve designed to equalize the pressure in the gas tank. If it is clogged and does NOT allow air to pass towards the tank, then a vacuum will form inside the fuel container and the fuel will no longer flow into the carburetor. To check if the valve is working, remove the hose that goes from the reservoir to the carburetor. If gas does NOT flow out of the tank, then the breather is clogged.

Trimmer users often ask themselves: Where is the breather? This valve is usually located in the gas cap and looks like the following figure.

Cleaning the breather is very simple: Let’s disassemble the valve and rinse all its components. On some lawn mowers, this valve may be located directly on the fuel tank. You will NOT be able to find it right away, since it is hidden from view under the starter housing. Such a breather is cleaned with a regular needle.

Insufficient compression

If the compression is insufficient, then start the engine, in most cases, will not work. To check the compressions, you can use a car compressor.

  • Unscrew the spark plug from the internal combustion engine cylinder.
  • Screw the compression gauge in its place.
  • Begin to pull on the starting cord as you would when starting lawn mowers. Do this until the arrow on the measuring device stops moving upward. This value will show the compression force of this engine.

What compression should be? Normally, the compression should NOT be lower than 8 kg / cm 2. Although even at 8 kg / cm 2, some engines do not idle and stall, as the fuel is not pumped sufficiently. In case your lawn mower does NOT pump above 8 kg / cm 2 then you will have to check the cylinder, piston and rings.

Also, poor compression can be due to poorly tightened carburetor. Check if he is wobbling. If so, well tighten the fasteners holding it. Also, if the carburetor is poorly screwed on, you may notice that gasoline drips during operation.

Electric trimmer vibrates

Many mower users have noticed that some time after the start of the machine, it begins to vibrate strongly. Some trimmers, mainly in more expensive models, have an anti-vibration system in the form of shock absorbers located between the engine and the boom. But in some cases, even it does NOT save from strong vibration. The reason that strong vibration appears in the trimmers may be a small amount or a complete absence of lubrication on a rigid or flexible shaft located inside the rod of the apparatus.

Rigid shaft lubrication is changed as follows:

  • Unscrew the gearbox located at the bottom of the rod;
  • After removing the gearbox, you will see the end of the shaft, which you need to pull to remove the part;
  • After removing the shaft, it must be generously lubricated with special grease. “CV joint-4” either the usual. “Litol-24”;
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the shaft and smear it evenly along the entire length of the part, including the splines at the ends of the rod (if they come off, the shaft will have to be replaced)
  • After lubrication, insert the shaft back into the rod and replace the gearbox in its original place.

The flexible shaft is lubricated as follows:

  • Unscrew and remove the mowing head;
  • Remove the rod from the electric motor by unscrewing a couple of bolts;
  • Pull the flexible cable out of the rod;
  • Lubricate the entire length of the cable with grease.

This is done like this: first you need to lubricate the end of the cable, and then insert it into the rod, after which, as it moves inside the pipe, you should apply lubricant to the part and distribute it evenly over the surface. Then insert the flexible shaft rod into the electric motor and secure it.

Air filter

In the event that your lawn mower does not start well or immediately stalls after starting, pay attention to the air filter, as it can be clogged, as a result of which air does NOT enter the combustion chamber and the fuel does not ignite. To check if the filter has a case, remove it and try to start the engine. If it works, then the reason has been found. The filter needs to be replaced or rinsed well and dried before installation. In the event that you find oil in the air filter, it must be washed with gasoline, squeezed well and dried for at least 2 hours before reinstalling.

If, when the air filter is removed, the unit still does NOT start, then it is recommended to check the fuel filter.

Fuel tank (fuel quality)

Remember that it is always necessary to check the availability and quality of fuel before starting the unit. In this case, you should not be greedy and save, and also “be smart” about the amount of added oil. Everything must be done according to the manual attached to the device, since if the piston group fails, its replacement will cost about 70% of the total cost of the trimmer. Fill in fuel on the basis that you will completely use it up when performing work. Gasoline remaining in the tank loses its properties after a while and can harm the engine. Therefore, the mixture is not ready for future use and in large quantities. If the lawn mower does not start well, try draining “old” fuel from the tank, and fill it with a freshly prepared mixture.

Breakage of petrol trimmers

Typical breakdowns of a gasoline trimmer, which the owners of this unit most often encounter, are as follows:

  • Engine breakdown;
  • Carburetor problems;
  • Fuel supply problems;
  • Muffler malfunction;
  • Gearbox breakage;
  • The starter has broken;
  • Air filter problems;
  • Gas tank breather clogged.

Exhaust channel

The reason that the trimmer has significantly lost power, and when trying to increase engine speed, it picks up slowly, often is the clogging of the exhaust channel, through which the exhaust gases come out of the combustion chamber.

It is necessary to remove the muffler so that the burn overshoots inside the cylinder. Next, clean the exhaust channel from carbon deposits.

After this procedure, the weak power of the unit and a slow increase in the speed of rotation of the mowing head will no longer upset you.

Candle and candle channel

So you’ve changed the fuel, but nothing has changed, and the trimmer still won’t start. In this case, it is worth checking the candle channel to see if it is filling it with a combustible mixture. Often, users move the air damper to position “OFF” when starting, and when the engine is started, and do not move it to the position “ON”, after which it stalls. Further, an attempt to restart the internal combustion engine leads to the fact that gasoline fills the candle, and the start becomes impossible. To diagnose and fix a possible problem in this node, do the following.

  • It is necessary to Unscrew the spark plug, wipe it well and dry it. When installing the spark plug in the engine cylinder, it must be dry.
  • Drain the accumulated fuel from the combustion chamber. This is done through the hole from which you unscrewed the candle.
  • If there is carbon deposit on the electrode of the candle, it must be removed either with a thin file or with a nail file.
  • Do not forget to set the gap between its electrodes before installing the part. The gap on the spark plug should be 1 mm. You can use a coin as a probe to check the gap.
  • Next, Assemble the unit, read the starting instructions and try to start the engine again.

If the GIS does not start, then you need to check the Spark. For this:

  • Unscrew the candle;
  • Put a cap of a high-voltage wire on it;
  • Touch its metal part to the cylinder body (to ensure contact, you can insert a pipe wrench) as shown in the figure below;
  • Pull the starter cord so that several engine revolutions occur.

Normally, with each piston weft, a spark should slip between the electrodes of the plug. If there is a spark, then the reason that the GIS does not start should be looked for in other nodes of the device.

For a better understanding of the process of how to test a candle for a spark, you can use this. Where the check is shown on the example of lawn mowers “Union”.

If there is no spark, then first check the cable connecting the candle to the coil. perhaps the reason is in it. You can call him using a tester. If an open circuit is detected, the high-voltage wire will need to be replaced.

Also, a prerequisite for the missing spark may be a malfunction of the ignition coil (magneto). The picture below shows what the coil (magneto) looks like from a Patriot petrol trimmer (Patriot).

To exclude a malfunction, you will need to check the trimmer magneto with a tester, namely, its primary and secondary windings. On the primary winding, the resistance should be between 0.4 and 2.0 ohms. If the device shows 0, this means that a short circuit has occurred in the winding, and if infinity is a clear sign of an open circuit. The resistance on the secondary winding must be between 6 and 8 kΩ.
