DIY drill visa from a channel. Purpose and principle of vise

DIY vise. detailed instructions with photos

Working with various materials and details, most masters sooner or later face a common problem. the convenience of the clamp of the processed product. At the same time, the standard vice may not be suitable for dimensions/shape/weight/price/ease of use. And then the only option is to make a home.made vise with your own hands. The task is non.trivial, but not so complicated: the skills of working with metal (cutting, welding) and a little design mark are needed.

What should be in a vice? Mandatory elements:

  • Sponges for a clamp with a mechanism that sets them in motion, shifting or pushing them away. A screw mechanism is usually used;
  • base. The more effort to withstand the clamping sponges, the more massive and stronger the base should be. Most often it is a cast or welded part of high.quality metal.

As a rule, you also need a device for attaching a vice for a workbench/table/machine. It can be screw (in standard factory visa, a clamping screw is used), constant, on suction cups. If the model is massive enough, you can not attach it to the table, but in this case there is always a risk of untimely movement.

I understand how to make a vice, you need to indicate the range of tasks. If it is a universal product used to fix different details. it is worth taking care of a large course of clamping sponges and a large distance from the axis of the sponges to the base. When performing accurate work, it is worth choosing a running screw with a small pitch of threads. this will allow you to fix the part as it should, while not pinching it too much. The same applies to the vise for working with brittle/soft materials. In this case, it is worth supplementing the clamping sponges for the vice of elastic overlays.

Depending on the type of operations, a rotary mechanism may be required (this complicates the structure) or an additional screw pair for displacing the upper part of the vice according to the base.

Sometimes you need a very low, almost flat base. Such, for example, make a vice for a drilling machine with their own hands.

How to make a do.it.yourself cloth

After an indicative choice of the type of product, we determine with the drawing (sketch, scheme).

Important: the final dimensions of the carpentry vice with your own hands may differ from the planned. This is due to which materials will be selected for the design and how much the master can take into account the size of the gaps, welds and other elements.

So, you need to choose the material (finished product) for:

  • sponge. mobile and motionless. Usually it is a corner, a channel, less often a rail or a strip;
  • bases. a strip, a rectangular pipe, a channel, a massive part (cast or stamped);
  • directing mobile sponge. Most often repeats the shape and material of the sponge itself, mounted on the edge of the base;
  • chassis. Apply rods with a metric, rectangular or trapezoidal thread. Accordingly, the running nuts are selected;
  • fasteners to the table. A screw clip or a plate with holes for direct screwing to the table/workbench is suitable.

Important: in order to accurately centr the carpentry vice for a workbench with your own hands, it is better to choose the guide and moving part of the product in the form of coaxial parts. for example, two pipes, with a small clearance of those entering each other.

drill, visa, channel, purpose, principle

If you can find for making a vice with your own hands drawings with dimensions, it is better to use the already developed option. If not, you will have to personally combine the real details of the trimming of pipes/channel/corner/plates with the desired dimensions.

The diagram of machine vice, with your own hands made of pipes and corner, is shown below.

If there are no suitable pipes, you can make a home.made vise from the channel. The P-shaped detail will be moving, hiding the running screw and nuts in itself, and there will be a more caller of larger size to the plate-base plate (if you manage to choose two profiles with a relatively free fit), or a welded structure of corners.

Tool design and its main nodes

Before you start making a vice, you need to get to know each other better with the device of this tool. A vice of the following elements consist:

  • The base is the supporting part by which the tool is fixed to the table, workbench or other surfaces
  • Start sponge. connects to the base, and may have the property of moving in different directions to change the angle of the entire tool
  • Mobile sponge. its movement is carried out due to rotation of the handle. The handle is connected to the screw, which is included in the ending with the nut of the mobile sponge. The sponge moves in two directions, while ensuring the fixation of the workpieces for their subsequent processing

The design of the vise in the context is shown in the photo below.

The varieties and the principle of work of the vise can be found in this material. The photo shows the design of the vice of the factory manufacturing. In the presence of improvised means, you can make a vice with your own hands at home. over, for their manufacture there are many options that we will get acquainted in more detail.

Next, we consider different options for making homemade vices from improvised means. Each master can take into account the features of the manufacture of the corresponding options, and on the basis of the instructions, make its own tool.

It is interesting! DIY grip manufacturing not only saves to buy an expensive tool, but also get a device that is necessary to perform specific actions.

Instructions for the manufacture of locksmiths from profile pipes

If there are profile pipes at the disposal, then you can make good home.made vice to fix various details and blanks of them. For the manufacture of a device from profile pipes, you will need:

  • Profiled pipe size 6×6 cm. The size of the pipe affects the dimensions of the future tool
  • Nuts
  • Coat
  • Pipe. the handle will be made from it

During the work, tools such as a welding machine, corner grinder or corner grinder, as well as a drilling machine or drill will be needed. The process of manufacturing homemade vice from profile pipes has the following view:

  • First of all, it is necessary to make a drawing on the basis of which parts of the future tool from profile pipes will be cut out
  • The base is originally cut out of the profile pipe by preliminary sizes. The larger the length of the cut pipe, the higher the distance will be between the lips. Recommended length of the profile pipe 15-20 cm. This pipe will play the role of the mobile part of the tool
  • Next, a stubborn plate is made, which is connected to the moving sponge of the tool. To do this, connect two nuts, the inner diameter of which must correspond to the size of the stud used. Two nuts are welded together, and then again using welding are attached to the plate with holes. These holes the plate will be attached to the workbench
  • At the next stage, it is necessary to cut out future sponges from the profile pipe, and with the help of bolts, attach cheeks to them (plates for direct fixation of parts)
  • As a result, two details should turn out, the same in size. these are the sponges of the tool, which ultimately will fix various details and blanks
  • Next, we proceed to the manufacture of the base of the tool. To do this, you will need corners that can be cut out with a corner grinder of profiled pipes. The base is made from the corners, due to which the tool will be attached to the table or workbench. Corners also act as guides
  • In the corners, it is necessary to pre.drill two holes through which the tool will be fixed to the workbench
  • To weld to the resulting base a segment of a profile pipe, placing it perpendicular to the profile. The resulting design is a fixed sponge
  • Welding seams are recommended to immediately remove and clean, otherwise these places will be corroded, and will very quickly become weak places of the tool
  • Next, you should weld to the profile pipe, which was cut off at the first stage, the second sponge. The pipe along with the sponge will be a mobile part of the tool
  • In the lower part of the profile pipe, which will play the role of the mobile part, you should make the neckline at half the length of the workpiece
  • To the back of the profile pipe, it is necessary to weld the plate with the hole pre.made in it. This hole is necessary to install a screw
  • Now we proceed to the installation of a pre.made stubborn plate, consisting of two nuts. This plate should be attached to the table or workbench, having pre.drill holes
  • Drill holes for installing the fixed part of the tool, after which we fix it
  • We proceed to the manufacture of the screw, through which the movement of the mobile part will be moved. To do this, weld the nut to the stiletress on one side, making a retreat for 5 cm
  • Install the hairpin in place (in the hole of the mobile part of the profile pipe), after which we screw the nut, and weld it. Do not forget to weaken the nut mount a little to ensure the free move of the screw
  • Another nut is welded to the hairpin, placing it perpendicular. This nut is needed to fix the handle, so its inner diameter should be larger than the outer size of the pipe prepared for the handle
  • To enhance the strength of the sponges, it is recommended to weld the plates inside the profile, as shown in the photo above. After that, the tool is almost ready for assembly. It remains to first degrease its surfaces, and paint all the details, except for the threaded parts
  • Install the pipe in the hole of the nut, after which the latch, exclude the loss of the handle at its ends
  • After that, the tool can be assembled, and try in action

At this stage, the process of making home.made vice with your own hands is completed, and it remains only to show your creation to friends and loved ones. According to a similar scheme, you can make a vice of any size. small, large or medium. For this, the corresponding size profile pipes are used. Buy profile pipes, and making the tool yourself is much cheaper than buying factory vice.

It is interesting! The cheeks for the tool can be bought ready-made or make it yourself from metal plates, at least 6-8 mm thick. On one part of these plates, using a corner grinder, it is necessary to make shallow grooves in the form of a rhombus.

Stages of work

The structure is cleaned and painted with enamel for metal.

How to make a vice from a profile pipe, corners and a channel?

To make such a locksmith tool, you will need:

  • steel corner;
  • a segment of a channel;
  • rod with a diameter of 20 mm;
  • rods for guides;
  • fasteners. bolts, nuts, washers;
  • Tools. welding machine, electric drill, “corner grinder”.

Step.by.step technologies for manufacturing wooden vice at home

Design for a workbench

At home, a vice for a workbench is made in the next sequence.

Wide parallel visa made of wood. The width of the sponges is 600 mm.
The end part is faced with steel plates with a thickness of 4 mm.
Generations are cut out of the birch board. The choice of birch is explained by the fact that this wood is characterized by high strength and hardness.
The surface of the boards must be brought to the ideal. Grinding tools are used. Finish processing is carried out with skins with grain 120 180 units.
A board is glued to the end, which will serve as a motionless sponge.
Additionally, the board is attached with screws M5 with washers with a diameter of 20 mm.
From birch bars 100x150x50 mm, guide bushings for rods will be made.
Holes with a diameter of 20 mm are drilled in them. The rods themselves will be made from tubes Ø 20.
M24 running screw and guide rods. The length of the screw is 450 mm.
Preliminary assembly of guide nodes.
So that the movement is made strictly in a straight line, you need a long nut. But you can look for this for a long time. It’s easier to do otherwise. 1. take a strip 180 mm long (width 33 mm, thickness 5 mm); 2. get to the screw two nuts; 3. set the distance between nuts 140 mm; 4. weld the nuts to the strip two nuts. You get a long support that will reliably move the moving part of the vice.
When installing, the screw and guides are located under the table. In the photo you can see how the design of such a vice is going.
The movable sponge is based on a metal support.
To move along the screw, you need to weld the puck. It will not allow to shift the mobile part along the screw surface.
The flywheel is pulled out of the wood fragment.
After turning, a rather comfortable handle is obtained.
A nut is pressed inside the flywheel.
To fix the nut, it is poured with epoxy resin.
For fixation of overall parts, he dummy with a diameter of 20 mm are pulled out. They can be installed on the lips, as well as on the table.
A hole is drilled in the flywheel Ø 16 mm. A wooden rod is inserted into it. It is more convenient to rotate and fix the details.
Finished design of wooden vice. Several rows of holes under the heavers are visible on the table. Rearranging the return stops, you can fix the blanks of a rather large width.

Making wooden vice installed on the table

Another design is used in the carpentry production. This type of fastener is installed on the table. They can be additionally strengthened with a clamp.

The oak massif is used. It must be dried in a special mode that provides not only drying. The modes alternate moisturizes. Then the appearance of cracks is excluded. In this design, the upper part of the sponges of a small width (only 60 mm).
The bar is placed on the table, and then marked.
The bar is stricting.
Separate details are cut. The fastening in the form of a swallow tail is considered the best.
The motionless part is pulled out separately.
A working screw is pulled out on a lathe.
A rectangular thread is cut.
A hole where the rod is inserted at the end. With it, the screw rotates.
A support plate is cut out of a 6 mm thick strip.
The holes of the large diameter are drilled by fixing the part in the four.cubed cartridge of the lathe.
Finished plate with a hole of Ø 20 mm.
Fulfillment of additional cuts.
The finished product is used to fix the blanks in the manufacture of small sculptures from soft wood.

Metal grinding

Little.sized machine vice

For manufacture requires: a plate with a thickness of 8 mm. Its width is 80 mm, and the length is 120 mm; 2 full.bodied square 20×20 mm; 2 is an equivalent corner with a shelf of 20 mm; Profile pipe 20x20x1.5 mm.
Fitting the parts used on the plate is made.
Corners will serve as guides for a pusher in a vice.
The length of the corners is 60 mm. The pipe has a length of 45 mm.
Inside the profile pipe, you need to install a nut M10. It will be necessary to drink the window; A nut will be installed in this window; The nut needs to be welded in place.
For the manufacture of wine, a rod is used Ø 10 mm, a thread M10 is cut on it.
Having fixed a profile pipe in a vice, drink it under a nut.
The nuts are tried on the place.
You need to file two corners at the nut, then it will enter the formed groove.
The nut is installed in place. It needs to be welded. The hole on the back is pre.drilled, the back of the nut will be welded through it.
Welding is performed on top.
Then the reverse side is boiled.
The surface of all parts is sanded.
A hole Ø 10 mm is drilled in the plate 50x30x6 mm.
A notch is cut on the squares. It will fix the details fixed in the vice.
Prepared parts are laid out on a workbench. The assembly of the device is ahead.
A motionless sponge is welded. Having installed a profile pipe as a decisive direction, the corners are welded. The course of the movable sponge will be 30 mm.
On top you need to weld a plate 20 mm wide. It will limit vertical movement. It will be necessary to fix the profile pipe to a movable sponge.
Part of the welded work is completed. The course of mobile elements is checked.
A nut is crushed to the screw. She will not allow him to move along the axis. The plate is located behind. It also needs to be hard to fix to the support surface of the vice.
Parts are adjusted in place.
Weld the plate, get a small vice.
Conditioning can be carried out by fixing the vice on the table.
Fixation of parts is carried out reliably.

A grip from a channel

Will be used: automobile jack; Channel; An is an isolation corner
Support is cut from a sheet with a thickness of 2 mm. However, such a thickness is insufficient to obtain a rigid structure, therefore it is welded from two sheets.
Marking.
Holes are drilled. Then the sheets are welded through the drilled holes between.
The corners are installed. A channel is located between them. Corners are welded in place. The channel moves freely between the corners.
Dismantling the jack is carried out. It is necessary to separate: screw; stubborn bearing; nut; Washers.
The removed details must be: disassemble; Rinse; Prepare for use.
Ready details after disassembly and washing.
Semi.finished products are prepared, it remains to install them in place.
The details are collected. They need to be fixed with welding.
Additionally, sponges are finalized. Replaceable elements are made.
A notch is drank on them.
A transverse plate of 4 mm thick is installed.
A movable sponge is attached to this plate.
Additionally enhanced with ugsins. They are cut out of a strip of 4 mm thick.
A screw, a nut and a fixation knot with a stubborn bearing are installed inside.
The finished vice after painting is fixed on the workshop of the workbench.

Masters offer many different designs of a home.made vise. You can choose the right option that is easy to repeat.

What are metallic vice

Before starting the manufacture of this tool, you need to familiarize yourself in more detail with how it is arranged. The vice consists of these details:

  • the foundation. This is a supporting part, through which the vice is attached to the table, workbench or other working surface;
  • Start sponge. It is attached to the base and it can be slightly moved in one direction or another in order to change the angle of the vice;
  • Mobile sponge. Its movement is performed due to the rotation of the handle. It moves in two directions. Due to which it provides reliable fixing of the element for further activities;
  • handle. Connected to a screw that is attached to the nut of a movable sponge.
  • screw. Attached to the lips and passes through a vice. Often the screw is steel, and the thread on it is trapezoidal. The screw is allowed to move by means of a handle placed on the outer edge.

What is the vice created from

Varieties of materials from which it is easy to independently create a vice at home, in fact, are limited only by the imagination of the one who will create it. All basic details for the vice are traditionally created from metal. This is many times more reliable than, for example, a tree.

Cast iron and steel details are suitable for work in the best way. It is they who the longest is not amenable to rust and better than other metals confront the negative influence of the environment. In addition, such a vice will last the master up to several decades.

As for the material for the basis of the vise, for this you can use a whole list of improvised details. So, for example, the basis can be made:

[alert] factory vice will last their owner a little more than a year. Rarely longer. The most common reason for the failure of the tool is a breakdown of the paws. From time to time, wear can accelerate due to the fact that low.quality material is used to create.[/alert]

A vice personally from a channel

Locker visa is used to process metal, because the basis for work requires quite reliable. cast iron or steel that were discussed earlier. Such a vice is not difficult to create on their own.

It will be easier to make them using a channel. From rails. are made much less often. The following tools will be required:

To create a home.made vise from a channel, the master will need such basic and additional materials:

  • nuts and bolts (two dozen sets will be required);
  • metal sheets are no thinner than 6 millimeters;
  • steel channel (thickness of about 6 millimeters);
  • corner (sides 50×50 mm or 70×70 mm);
  • drawing;
  • A hairpin with a diameter of 1.5 centimeters, which is usually used as a clamping screw.
  • At the first, for starters, you will need a couple of nuts specifically for the screw. Not every master is able to make them himself. Therefore, it would be more correct to use the help of a professional turner.
  • The nut must be welded to the channel to the maximum coaxial.
  • The edges of the channel must be covered with pieces of metal.
  • In the bar you need to make an entrance for the screw.
  • Make a pair of corners and plate by corner grinder.
  • Prepared corners to adjust to the channel and cover the sheet with a piece of sheet. As a result, a P-shaped metal structure will be released, which will become the basis for a channel vise.
  • To make a bed, you need a metal sheet with a thickness of no more than a centimeter. It needs to make four holes on each side and six more on the P-shaped detail.
  • A nut is welded to the base (bed), and on the sides there are a pair of stoopor from metal.
  • Sponges can also be created on their own. simply cut out of steel. One is welded immediately, the other is attached to the mobile element.

How to construct a vice on your own from the corner

You can assemble a vice for the machine yourself using only a metal corner. In this case, you will need the same tools that are used in working with a channel, as well as the following materials:

Approximate drawings of machine vice is easy to find on the Web. Depending on the necessary dimensions, you can make a vice yourself:

drill, visa, channel, purpose, principle

[alert] make a vice beautiful easily by means of paint. It is better to use ordinary enamel for metal surfaces.[/alert]

  • After that it’s time to make a tripod. To do this, you need a part of the corner in which the hole is drilled under the hairpin.
  • It is recommended to weld the bearing right there, without delay. On the side, which is opposite to mount with the bearing, the same corner is fixed, and the shaft hole is drilled.
  • A couple of nuts are welded on the other side.
  • So that the hairpin is easily rotated, a cable is attached to the base of the nut.

Thus, this vice for the drilling machine will turn out to be much more budgetary. In addition, knowing how they are arranged, it will be easier to repair them on their own if such a need arises.

Experienced experts are aware that it is problematic to drill and hold parts at the same time. Because the product comes out not accurate, from which its quality suffers. A vice from the required species, for example, from the corner, can significantly facilitate the work of the master.

What should you pay attention to

There are several points that must be taken into account. And first of all, these are the dimensions of the future vice. They are divided into several groups:

  • Small. Their length is from 29 cm, height. from 14 cm. The height of the sponges does not exceed 5 cm. Such a vice weigh about 8 kilograms weigh;
  • Medium. Length. up to 37 cm, height. up to 18 cm. Glum height. no more than 7 cm. Weigh up to 14 kilograms;
  • Large. Length. approximately 46 cm, height. up to 22 cm. Glum height. up to 9 cm. Weigh up to 30 kilograms.

It is worth recognizing that these are averaged dimensional parameters, but it is quite possible to navigate in the process.

Separate models presented in today’s market can weigh significantly more than 30 kilograms. However, the material selected for manufacturing. For example, cast iron, as everyone knows, is much harder than some types of steel. Therefore, select the material and calculate the size for a specific tool in each case separately.

Types of vise and their price

The vice is divided into several types in design of the clamping mechanism.

The most widespread are mechanical options, where the clip of workpieces is carried out by applying physical strength.

drill, visa, channel, purpose, principle

In turn, such models are divided into:

Rifle

The design provides a chassis with a trapezoidal thread, which passes through the entire length of the vice.

This element rotates by means of a pen at its outer end.

Quickly sound

The running screw passes through the detail, which is superimposed and mobile in the transverse direction.

When pressing it, the screw comes out of the hook and it can be freely moved without rotation.

Quickly detachable

Open and closed without the use of the screw.

For these purposes, the grip design provides a special mechanism with a trigger or lever that provides quick adjustment of the position of the sponges.

Eccentric

Designed for rapidly squeezing parts, instead of the screw, an eccentric mechanism is used with a handle, while the sponge moves freely until the moment the eccentric is clamped.

In addition to the clamping mechanisms described above, they use: they use:

Pneumatic vise

The convergence of the sponges provides a special tool for the instrument with internal cavities, valves and diaphragms.

A similar option with a pneumatic drive is connected to an air compressor, the clamping of parts is carried out in just 2 to 3 seconds without the use of physical force.

In the absence of pressure, the sponge is in the most diluted position.

Hydraulic

Most often, this is a screw tool with a built.in hydraulic system, or options similar in terms of the principle of operation on the jacks, that is, with a built.in or connected hydraulic pump.

I mainly use such models in industrial enterprises, where it is necessary to multiply the clamp and extended parts.

The presence of a hydraulic drive allows you to facilitate and accelerate the work of the master several times.

All existing design models are divided into:

Locksmiths

Are attached to the table or workbench with bolts at the base.

This is the most common vice of the listed.

To expand functionality, they can constructively combine with other tools.

So, for example, most of the models go with an anvil. a flat platform behind a fixed lip.

Some options have a base with a pipeline. two motionless rollers.

The mobile video that is adjusted by the bending radius, and which settles the pipe in the center, is installed on the back of the design of the moving sponge.

Table (small)

Designed to fix small parts, for example, when repairing radio equipment.

In fact, this is a reduced copy of the previous option, but the base has a mount made in the form of a clamp.

Due to this design, this is a portable vice, since at any point they can be rearranged on the other edge of the table, or they can be worn at all, and carry it together with the instrumental set.

As a rule, mini-photographs do not have removable cheeks, and therefore, when working with soft materials, rubber or wooden gaskets are installed between the lips and the closed part.

For high.quality tenses will have to be given from 1000

Machine.owned

They are used together with various machines of various sizes.

For attaching to the machine table, there are two side protrusions with long grooves at the base of the tool, which allows you to adjust their position relative to the working element of the equipment horizontally.

The mobile sponge and the bed itself are made of steel.

Manual

Used to hold small blanks, which in the hands are simply inconvenient to hold.

In the classic version, these are two steel sponges connected from the back of the back with a jumper, and approximately in the center having a clamping screw.

Another version of the performance is a vice of a stalkin, which are a snapping pliers with a lever mechanism and a “dead point” of levers.

All models are used to process parts on weight, that is, the vice of the closed workpiece itself is held in the hand.

Carpentry

These are wooden or steel workshop vice, which are attached to the layout from below, have the guide rods along with the running screw.

Similar vices are also called carpentry.

They are equipped with smooth even lips with a large surface area, on which wooden linings made of soft wood are installed, which avoids damage to the processed material.

The carpentry vice can have both their own sponges and only one mobile, then the edge of the table itself acts as a motionless.

NOTE:

For a layout of the factory configuration, to have pre.installed built.in vice. this is the norm.

.

By the method of information of the sponges, the vice is divided into:

Stools

A rare option that is almost never used.

Initially, these are large blacksmithing, which was attached to the base that has the shape of a chair.

Now this is the name of any type of tool whose sponges are reduced like the manual options described above, that is, like forces.

Parallel

These are almost all modern models where the movable sponge moves strictly parallel to the guide.

How to make a vice with your own hands from metal: materials and a sequence of work

Locksmith and milling vise are designed for work with metal, so here you will need more reliable and strong material. We are talking about strong steel or cast iron. At the same time, they, like wooden, can be made with your own hands. The easiest way is to make a shannel vice with your own hands. This will need such a set of tools:

  • welding machine;
  • electric drill;
  • corner grinder with a circle circle;
  • a square for the correct determination of the corners;
  • Drill of different sizes and diameter.

In addition, such materials and auxiliary products for making a grinder from a channel with your own hands will be required: with your own hands:

Locked vice is easiest to make with your own hands from a channel

  • blueprints;
  • a channel made of steel with a thickness of 6 mm;
  • a sheet of metal with a thickness of 6 mm;
  • a corner size of 70×70 or 50×50;
  • A hairpin with a diameter of 16 mm, used as a clamping screw;
  • Bolts and nuts. 20 sets.

A couple of nuts into which the screw is screwed into is not easy to do it independently, it is best to use the services of a professional turner here here. A nut to the channel is welded as a rustle as possible. The ends of the channel should be covered using pieces of metal sheets, in the bar you need to make a hole for the screw.

At the next stage, two corners and plate are cut out with an angular grinder. Ready.made corners are attached to the channel on both sides and covered with a piece of metal. Thus, a P-shaped design is obtained, which is the basis of a do-it-yourself grip from a channel.

For the manufacture of the bed, a sheet of metal is required with a thickness of 7-10 mm, in which four holes are drilled on each side, and also make 6 holes on the P-shaped element. One nut is welded to the bed, and two metal stops on the sides of it. Do.it.yourself sponges for a vice are made with their own hands: they are cut out of steel. One part is welded immediately, and the second is attached to the mobile part.

A step from a channel with your own hands step.by.step instructions and videos

If you go to the store and look at the cost of a locksmith with a width of the sponges from 120mm, it becomes somehow sad.

Looking at the metal that I have in stock, I decided to spend a day on independent manufacture of locksmiths.

What will be needed

The material that I looked at for the manufacture of a vice:

  • iron sheet for the base of a 4mm thick vise
  • Profile square pipe 50mm with wall thickness 4mm
  • 60mm corner with a wall thickness of 5mm
  • 75mm corner with wall thickness 8mm
  • Street 10 mm thick
  • Exploratory stud 20mm
  • Long nut 20mm

We start making a vice

The plate for the base of the vice I had 200x160mm.

I decided to cut off the same and inhabited in one of the plates evenly holes with a diameter of 8mm with point welding, I fastened these two plates among themselves.

In the center of the plate, he drew the central fishing line for the trimmer and at the edges from it also drew a couple of lines 20mm wide. for the thickness of the hairpin.

The long nut into which the hairpin will be screwed in on the spacer. a piece of strip 10 mm thick to which I welded this nut.

He installed a nut on the spacer in the center of the drawn line and screwed the stilett into it in the center.

After that he welded the platform with a nut to the founding plate and cleaned up.

As a sidewall, a 60mm corner with a wall thickness of 5mm and a length of 200 mm will be used.I put them to see how it will look:

Here is a general view of parts for locksmiths:

In a 50x50mm profile pipe, made a corner grinding of a longitudinal groove a slightly more wide than a welded stand with a nut.From the edge of this pipe left the non.sawn part equal to the width of future sponges.

The corners of the wrapping profile pipe grabbed the seizures to the unreasonable sheet.Between these corners he laid a plate 50mm wide and 10mm thick. So that the profile pipe moves normally, between this plate on top and the most profile pipe made a spacer.

As a spacer, I used a couple of paintings for a hacksaw for metal.

After that, he welded the plate along the entire length. The result was a kind of box:

Since the gap between the plate and the corners turned out to be large enough, then after welding the plate from above, I cut off the tack and boiled the same plate from the inside.Since the profile pipe has semicircular edges, the welding seam from the inside of the profile pipe does not interfere.

After that, the resulting box cleaned up:

As a base under the sponge, a thicker corner of 75mm and a wall thickness of 8mm used a thicker corner. The width of future sponges will be 150mm.Having set the corners to future places of attachment, I cut them a little on a beard.

As the sponges themselves, a segment from a strip of 10 mm thickness will be used.Sponges will have size: 150x50x10mm.

Having attached these future sponges to my corners, I fixed them with “dogs” with “dogs” and drilled through the holes of 4.2mm.Then, in the corners, I cut 5mm threads, and in my lip drilling holes with a drill of 5.1 mm and made a zenkovka under secret.

In the chopped thread, I screwed the bolts and fastened two nuts from the reverse side, which then I was brewing with welding. It turned out a certain elongated thread of 5mm.

I made holes for attaching sponges to the corners in the center of the lips. 25mm from the vertical line and 30mm from the edges.

From the end of the profile pipe, where in the future I would be attached to the hairpin, I initially planned to weld the square site.Then he decided to weld along the edges of the pipe on a piece of the corner in which I will then cut the thread and I will not weld this site, but screw it with screws.

This will allow me to further make out a vice if necessary.

Putting a corner with future lips on this part, I made a bevel of a corner relative to the protruding welded corners.

In the future, to strengthen the sponges from the inside of the corners, slants will be welded and all this is brewed with a plate with a thickness of 4mm.

To strengthen the upper part, where there is a place for an anvil, I put another plate 8mm thick (like a corner of sponges) and a width equal to the total width of the box.

Thus, if in the future you have to use the anvil for its intended purpose, then the entire load will be carried out on the vertical ribs of the side corners.

Having welded the enhancing braces, I closed the corners of the sponge with a plate of 4mm thick and cleaned all the corner grinding, and then with an emery circle with a grain of 40.

When scaling corners with a plate of 4mm, I used the same electrodes, only on a current of about 80a.

The slot in the profile pipe cut out in the place so that this cut did not interfere with the movement of the pipe relative to the welded platform with a nut.So that nothing clings to.

Then I degreased this business and covered with a thug of paint from the spray can:

In the collection at the moment it looks like this:

The second option from a channel is

For this homemade, we need a 40 millimeter piece of 65 channel, a piece of square dozens. After trifling the channel, we clean the square and weld together.

Corner grinder processing gives a neat appearance. But this is optional. You can not perform, because it will not affect the functionality of the tool.

The master believes that the grinding should be performed because it gives a beautiful appearance.

Drill a hole with a diameter of a little more than 8 mm. We move the sponge because it has a slope. On a piece of file, you need to remove the chamfer. The recess is ready. Now you can cook.

Bolt M8 perfectly exactly to the back of the channel and perpendicular sponges. Two nuts will be cooked. The more nuts, the less wear. Using a file and drill, we make even longitudinal and transverse deepening. After degreasing the solvent, apply a primer.

Let we dry and apply the working paint. While the tool dries, look how to make a protracted bolt with a moving heel without a lathe. If you decide to figure out such a thing, then it is better to take the Bolt M10 or M12. Then the tool will serve reliably and for a long time. We take the puck wider and thicker.

Homemade vice from a channel

The most important tool of the locksmith is the vice. Without them, it is impossible to perform most locksmith operations. Therefore, any beginner locksmith, first of all wants to purchase this desired tool. There may also be a situation when the old factory vice simply broke and are not subject to repair.

In such cases, buying a new similar tool is not always profitable, since they are far from cheap. Therefore, many locksmiths decide to make a vice with their own hands, which in turn for beginners can become a good experience, and experienced specialists will be able to make high.quality and convenient visa.

You can make such a tool in one day from improvised materials, or you can collect the necessary components for a month and make a vice that differs little from factory. In fact, the truth is somewhere in the middle. This article will describe in detail the instruction on how to make a vice with your own hands for several days without special costs.

Drawings of a vice

Such work can only be performed in a small locksmith workshop with the obligatory presence of a welding machine, an electric drill, corner grinder and other hand tools.

In addition, it is necessary to purchase materials such as a piece of steel channel. length 0.5 m, 0.3 m2 sheet steel 4-5 mm thick and 30 cm of a steel corner 50×50 mm, 18 m6 bolts with nuts and a piece of thick sheet metal for the manufacture of sponges.

In this case, the turner’s services cannot be dispensed with, since it will be necessary to make a screw with a diameter of 16 mm, finish two plates for clamping sponges and grind two nuts in which the screw itself will rotate.

Stages of manufacturing homemade vice

Approximate step.by.step instructions on how to make a vice with your own hands at home may look as follows:

A corner of a skeleton of a slowner 30 cm long is trimmed with a corner grinder. It will serve as a mobile part of the vice. On the one hand, a plate of 4 mm thick with a recess is welded to the base of this workpiece, into which a clamping screw with a groove is inserted. In order for the screw itself in this recess to be securely fixed, a stop plate of the same thickness is attached to this plate on the inside with two bolts.

Using a corner grinder from the sheet, a 25×6 plate is cut out.2 cm, to which two corners 50×50 are welded 25 cm long. This design is a fixed part of the vice. In the shelves of this workpiece, 6 holes with a diameter of 6 mm are drilled.

Another 30×20 mm dimensions with a lateral protrusion of 10×8 mm in size are cut out of the same sheet with a corner grinder. In it, 12 holes with a diameter of 6 mm are drilled around the edges. It will serve as the basis for the vise on which the whole structure is attached. Two locking plates for a fixed nut are welded to it on the protruding part.

Two blanks are cut out of the corner steel, in which holes are drilled, and a thread is cut for fastening clamping sponges. Then one of these blanks is welded to the motionless part of the vice, and the second to the one that will move inside the bed.

Previously, the bed itself is attached to the locksmith table with the help of bolts. Holes are also drilled in the lips, through which they are attached to the clamping plates with the help of bolts. The cake is inserted into the screw and the reliability of the fastening is checked again.

Additionally, you can strengthen the design of the vice by welding of scarves and stop plates, as shown in the video and photo. Such locksmiths are easily versed, so it is advisable to paint them with anti.corrosion paint for metal and install in a permanent place.

In the same way, you can make a vice for a drilling machine, only in this case the mount to the machine bed will differ slightly depending on its design.

As can be seen from the above description, making a home.made vise is completely easy. You just need to have a desire and elementary skills in working with metal. Below we recommend watching a video on how to make a machine vice.

Homemade grove of a channel: make a useful device yourself

You can make high.quality vice with your own hands. They will definitely come in handy for carpentry work. A few tools, metal details and a little patience. this is what you need!

How to assemble a vice?

Before welding, you should have a channel, stubborn bar, longitudinal guides, lips.

  • Take a channel of the required size as a basis, which can be purchased here! The size of the guides depends on its height. From the upper edge it is necessary to remove a little material along the beard of the end edge (t.to. there is a rounding of the inside).
  • The base is necessary. a metal plate.
  • Sponges are made of metal bars or borrowed from the old vice. Each bar needs fixing planks. Their motionless part will be equal to the width of the channel (fixed to it by bolts). The mobile part will be equipped with a thread with a thread (this is for fastening on the shaft). Place the puck between the parts of the stubborn bar with the end of the shaft, the nut is wound up to the other end.
  • In the space from the stubborn bar to the nut (between the longitudinal guides), 2 support guides (holes inside) are placed.
  • You will also need a screw (from a metal rod), in the ending of which a hole for the handle is drilled.
  • Next, the connecting holes are made, the strips and sponge are attached with bolts, the shaft is delayed in the nut, and the vice is located on the base of the metal.
  • The design is welded at the seams, after which the vice is collected (the shaft is twisted). Ready!

Use quality materials and carefully perform work. and they will last you for a long time! Our company is engaged in the sale of a channel and other black metal products, for example, A3 fittings. You can buy high.quality materials from us.

Table locksmiths. device, do it yourself

It is unlikely that there is a more necessary device in a home workshop than a locksmith. Even if you mainly work with a tree, sometimes you will not be able to do without a vice.

He installed a nut on the spacer in the center of the drawn line and screwed the hairpin into it in the center.

After that he welded the platform with a nut to the founding plate and cleaned up.

As a sidewall, a 60mm corner with a wall thickness of 5mm and a length of 200 mm will be used. I put them to see how it will look:

Here is a general view of parts for locksmiths:

In a 50x50mm profile pipe, made a corner grinding of a longitudinal groove a slightly more wide than a welded stand with a nut. From the edge of this pipe left the non.sawn part equal to the width of future sponges.

The corners of the wrapping profile pipe grabbed the seizures to the unreasonable sheet. Between these corners he laid a plate 50mm wide and 10mm thick. So that the profile pipe moves normally, between this plate on top and the most profile pipe made a spacer. As a spacer, I used a couple of paintings for a hacksaw for metal.

After that, he welded the plate along the entire length. The result was a kind of box:

Since the gap between the plate and the corners turned out to be large enough, then after welding the plate from above, I cut off the tack and boiled the same plate from the inside. Since the profile pipe has semicircular edges, the welding seam from the inside of the profile pipe does not interfere. After that, the resulting box cleaned up:

As a base under the sponge, a thicker corner of 75mm and a wall thickness of 8mm used a thicker corner. The width of future sponges will be 150mm. Having set the corners to future places of attachment, I cut them a little on a beard.

First a 2.5 mm drill, then 4. After heated, steel in the bolt is reddened and slow cooling to flatter to flatten a ball from the bearing. Before you beat with a hammer, each time the bolt was pulled by a wrench.

The mobile heel is ready. If there is no goal of the desired size, then you can easily take a regular coin. Drill a hole in the center.

Pipe

One of the easiest to manufacture a model of a vice. Suitable for the clamp of details of various shapes. Can withstand a sufficiently high load and apply as a clamp. The product frame is made of profile, round pipes and sheet metal. Steel thickness should be at least 10 mm.

In the central part of the profile, a hole for the screw is made. To combine pipe segments and rectangular profile, welding should be used. Additionally, the joints can be strengthened with bolts, but the frame in any case should be collected using welding.

As a clamping element, a profile with a diamond neckline is used, clinging to the reverse part of a similar shape. Side pipes are guides, for fixing on which parts of the pipe cut along the pipe are welded to the clamping part.

Useful tips

The sizes of the vise should be calculated taking into account the planned load. The higher the load, the greater the size. In the manufacture of machine vice, the dimensions of the bed should be taken into account where they will be installed. For example, homemade vice for a drilling machine should be slightly smaller than its bed, but having sufficient area for strong fixation.

The weight of the finished product depends not only on the size, but also the material. Cast iron vise will be much heavier than models made of simple steel. Therefore, when choosing the material, you need to take into account the purpose and load.

For example, in the carpentry, it makes sense to use wooden details to facilitate and reduce the load on the workbench.

The clamp should have a sufficient force for user tasks. The larger details are planned to be processed, the stronger the clamp should be. You should also take into account the force that will be applied to the details in the process of processing.

Various vices are suitable for different works that differ primarily by the type of clamp. Therefore, the vise should be collected in accordance with individual needs. For example, for rare everyday tasks, classic vice with a running screw is suitable. For regular professional operation, fast.fast vice will not be superfluous to save time and effort on the clip of workpieces.
