DIY reciprocating saw blade

For aerated concrete

For work on stone, concrete and aerated concrete, blades made of hard alloys marked HM, CV and a reciprocating saw with a power of at least 1 kW are used. The use of a powerful tool is necessary for high-speed and high-quality cutting of material. Metabo accessories have proven to be effective blades for working with abrasive materials.

Broad profile

Features of the

Reciprocating saws are used for cutting materials of various density: chipboard, fiberboard, non-ferrous metals, cast iron, ceramic, concrete, stone surfaces. The blade is a steel file with sharpened teeth located at an angle from the cutting side of the nozzle. The teeth also affect the cut quality of the material. Saws differ in pitch width, degree of sharpening of teeth, their shape, size. Large teeth speed up the cutting of the work surface, but do not guarantee the quality of this procedure. To get a neat cut, blades with a fine set of teeth are used.

Cutting elements are divided into milled and grinding models. The latter type of saws is used for processing soft materials, while milled files interact with hard surfaces: stone, metal, hard wood. The saw shanks are unified, which allows them to be used on various models of reciprocating saws. By the type of movement, the canvases are translational and pendulum. The pendulum view allows you to remove sawdust during operation, protects the blade from overheating. The color of the canvas indicates the use of an alloy of materials.

By wood

Saw blades for woodworking most often come with a reciprocating saw. The blades are made of high-carbon steel with the addition of carbon. The alloy is characterized by increased wear resistance and reliability. These characteristics affect the price of the files. The blades can either be included in the sets of cutting tools, or be sold separately. They are intended for processing soft materials and are marked with the letters HCS. The location of the teeth on the cutting edge is different, and depends on the type of surface to be machined. Most models are made with equidistant teeth.

Varieties

Some saws have a wide range of work with different materials, but for a better cut, specialized blades should be used.

Options

Each file has a marking on its surface that characterizes the parameters of the working blade. Let’s consider these characteristics in more detail.

Subtleties of use

Before using the tool, it is necessary to adjust the support shoe, while the length of the blade should be minimal. This procedure saves teeth that are not used in the cut from wear. Blind cuts are strictly prohibited! This can damage the gear unit. It is especially worth working with metal pipes, they are most often subject to deformation. It should also be remembered that the use of bent files affects the quality of work and performance of the equipment.

To extend the service life of the saw blades, it is recommended to minimize the possibility of the blade hitting various surfaces and objects.

Applications and unit design

In principle, the device is used in sawmills in an industrial or domestic environment. It has certain advantages and disadvantages, but it is used very widely.

reciprocating, blade

The device of this unit is quite simple. An electric motor and pulleys are mounted on a stable frame. They are joined by a cutting blade. The engine ensures the operation of the apparatus. Depending on the type of blade, you can cut not only wood, but also metals, alloys, polypropylene.

DIY band saw: drawings and manufacturing tips

For a good owner, the availability of all the necessary equipment. this is happiness. It is especially important to have various adaptations for those people who live in their own home. For example, a homemade band saw will greatly facilitate working with wood products. At the same time, as it is already clear, the device can be built by yourself from improvised materials.

Required tool

In order to start making a band saw with your own hands, you need to prepare. You need tools like this:

Naturally, you may need other tools as well. For example, a milling machine.

Varieties of machines

Before you start making band saws, you should understand their types. There is such a classification of devices:

Saw sharpening

Naturally, any equipment needs periodic repair and inspection. For example, sharpening band saws with your own hands is quite simple. The main thing is to know its technology. A special machine is used for work. All work consists of several stages:

Initial sharpening (eliminates cracks that have appeared, restores the symmetry and profile of the teeth).

Cleaning the blade from sawdust and dust.

Wiring (to restore the back and front corners).

Final sharpening. It removes all distortion and sharpens the teeth.

If you do not have experience sharpening saws, then all actions should be done as carefully as possible. The quality of the device depends on this procedure. If you are not confident in your abilities, then invite an experienced specialist.

Advantages and disadvantages of the apparatus

A band saw with your own hands is done quickly enough. Naturally, in this case, you must comply with all the requirements of the drawing and be accurate. However, you first need to decide whether it is worth doing it. To do this, it is imperative to consider all the pros and cons of the unit. So, among the advantages are the following:

Naturally, a band saw, which you can do with your own hands in a few days, is not without its drawbacks. For example, with such a device, you can only make longitudinal cuts, since its design will not allow you to do something else. During operation, the machine may emit strong noise and vibration. In addition, the device is large. If you decide to make such a machine yourself, then you will have to use special equipment.

If you are not afraid of the shortcomings, then such a device can bring a lot of benefits to the owner.

What problems may arise during the manufacture of the device?

First of all, you need sophisticated equipment to do some of the work. For example, not every craftsman knows how to use a welding machine. Not everyone has a milling machine. Please note that the entire structure must be stable. In this case, one should not forget about the mass of the material that will be processed.

reciprocating, blade

Not everyone can figure out the drawing. Please note that the disadvantage of such a device is a fairly wide kerf. In general, if you want to build such a unit yourself, stock up on the necessary tools, material and patience.

Reciprocating saw blades

For each type of work and type of material, the appropriate blade must be used. When choosing a reciprocating saw blade, it is important to choose the right size, type, tooth pitch and degree of sharpening.

reciprocating, blade

For example, saw blades with set teeth are distinguished by the greatest efficiency and speed when cutting. But, naturally, you shouldn’t wait for an even cut from such a file. But the wavy teeth will delight you with a neat, even cut, but it will take more time to saw. The double-sharpened serrated blade is ideal for soft, porous materials such as leather, rubber, foam, carpets, cardboard.

Also, the size of the teeth affects the speed and accuracy of the cut: the larger it is, the faster the sawing will be. But the quality of the cut in this case may be poor. However, for rough work, this option is optimal. If necessary, to obtain an even cut, use blades with fine teeth. The speed when working with such a file will be significantly less.

The blade with ground teeth can be used when working with soft materials. Saw blades with milled teeth are designed for sawing products from hard wood and metal. Also, the teeth can be multidirectional, pointed, trapezoidal, straight-sided, hollow and mixed.

Free cutting clearance may be mentioned in the saw blade performance. This term means the difference between the width of the back or body of the blade and the thickness of the cut itself. Due to the gap, the file does not get stuck in the material. The larger the gap value, the better the web will follow the curve. For curved cuts with a small radius, a saw with a narrow back will be more effective.

To work with structures and products with a decent thickness, a cutting depth of 240-255 mm is recommended, and the stroke of a hacksaw blade is 28-32 mm.

Saw blades differ from each other and the material from which they are made. They can be made entirely from one type of steel, or have a body from one type of alloy, and the teeth from another. To make it easier to find the right file, identifying abbreviations are applied to it.

Blades with the abbreviation BIM are quite popular. Saw blades of this type are considered universal, as they are made of combined steel and are suitable for processing both soft and hard materials: from wood to ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Bimetallic blades are made by welding two different metals together. By adding low-alloyed alloys to HS steel, the files are viscoelastic and, at the same time, sufficiently strong.

The main disadvantage of universal saw blades is the rather high cost, since they belong to the professional class of blades.

The CV designation indicates that the product is made of chrome vanadium steel. Such canvases have high elasticity, but moderate hardness. Typically this type of steel is used in the body of the saw blade.

The abbreviation CT stands for Carbide Tipped, a so-called powder material made of various components. It can include tungsten, cobalt, titanium, tantalum, and carbides. This material is often used to make the teeth of blades intended for cutting durable products.

Reciprocating saw blades: varieties and tips for use

The quality and efficiency of the reciprocating saw depends not so much on the engine power as on the correctly selected hacksaw blade. Even an inexpensive tool model can cope with a wide range of tasks if you take a responsible approach to the issue of choosing a saw blade. An incorrectly chosen blade and improper use of the saw can ruin even expensive professional equipment, as well as cause injury to the user.

Device for fastening files in an electric hawker

The fixation of the saws in the electric hawker is carried out using a special clamping fixture, into which the blade shank is inserted. This mechanism can be realized as a keyless chuck that does not require a key when changing the saw blade. There are other locks that require a key. Of course, the first option is much more convenient, especially if the saws for the reciprocating saw have to be changed frequently.

Unified saw blade shanks are suitable for many saw attachment devices in the electric cutter. In such cases, choosing and replacing the file will not be difficult. But there are also situations when only hacksaw blades from the same manufacturer are suitable for a clamping lock in a certain model of a reciprocating saw.

On plastic

To cut plastic products as accurately as possible, universal saws with milled teeth are suitable. M-shaped teeth cope with this task quite successfully.

By brick

For work with tiles, foam blocks and bricks, HM carbide blades are also used, to which carbide or chromium is added. But, if you want to cut a stone, then a regular saw blade for a brick saw will not work, for such a task you need a blade with abrasive diamond dusting. It can handle bricks too.

By wood

For cutting wood structures, you can use a hacksaw blade with the abbreviation HCS. These Reciprocating Saw Blades are made of high carbon steel and do an excellent job on soft and hard wood as well as chipboard and fiberboard. Their length is usually no more than 350-400 mm. When sawing soft woods, you can use a saw blade made entirely of chrome vanadium steel.

Saws with the same tooth pitch are suitable for ordinary wood. But, for example, for wooden structures with meeting nails, it is better to opt for a blade with a variable pitch.

Wide stride is more suitable for dry hardwoods of sufficient thickness. But in wet or fibrous wood, such a file can start to get stuck and in order to achieve at least some result, you will have to reduce the sawing speed.

It is important that when sawing wood along the grain, long chips are obtained, and it is better to use saw blades with large teeth. In the opposite case, when the cut is made across the fibers, the chips come out short, therefore it is more expedient to use a blade with fine teeth. This approach will improve the quality of the saw cut. If the direction of the fibers in the structure to be sawn alternates, it will be optimal to choose a blade with teeth combined in size.

For aerated concrete

Sawing hard and porous materials with increased abrasiveness under the force of hacksaw blades made of tungsten carbide with the abbreviation HM or CV. This category includes a reciprocating saw blade for aerated concrete, as well as tiles, steel, fiberglass or fiberglass products.

Reciprocating saw based on a jigsaw with your own hands

A reciprocating saw and jigsaw are indispensable tools in the arsenal of summer residents and residents of private houses. These tools are in many ways similar to each other, but at the same time they have some differences that allow them to complement each other. And if you combine these devices, you can get a universal tool. With a little effort, you can convert an electric jigsaw to a reciprocating saw, saving you a lot of the money needed to buy both devices.

Required tools and materials

A reciprocating saw is an electric hacksaw designed for cutting wood and some metal materials. And if you choose the right canvas, then you can even process stone, glass, ceramics and other hard materials. Due to the long and narrow shape of the tool, it can be used even in hard-to-reach, confined spaces. In addition, it is very convenient to use it on the fly.

The jigsaw is also a popular hand tool for cutting various materials. But, unlike a reciprocating saw, this device is suitable for performing precise work with flat surfaces. Most often it is used for curly cutting. But in order to get a high-quality result, you need skill.

Both the reciprocating saw and the jigsaw have their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is rather difficult to say which of them is better. But if you make a combination of these two tools, you can end up with something special. To do this, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • a wooden block measuring 18x7x4.5 cm (the exact size depends on the dimensions of the saw);
  • metal plate;
  • metal pipe with a diameter of 1.2 cm and a length of 15 cm;
  • rounded timber;
  • a pair of wooden rectangles with dimensions of 14×7 cm and 14×5 cm (the thickness of both parts should be no more than 1 cm);
  • bolts, self-tapping screws for fixing.

In addition to these materials, the jigsaw itself is also needed, from which the reciprocating saw will be made, as well as the drill.

How to do it yourself

After all the tools and materials have been prepared, you can proceed directly to the process of transforming the jigsaw into a reciprocating saw. The whole procedure is quite simple and takes place in several stages:

  • Using bolts, attach the plate to one end of the metal pipe, and attach the saw blade on the other.
  • Drill a small hole in the plate through which it will attach to the jigsaw.
  • In one rectangular piece of wood, drill a square hole of such a diameter so that the canvas and pipe can be passed through it.
  • In another wooden rectangle, make a narrow saw cut, and on top of it, attach a roller stop for the blade. Such an emphasis is needed to facilitate the movement of the file, as well as to prevent backlash.
  • In a large wooden block, make a groove for the pipe.
  • Using self-tapping screws, attach ready-made wooden plates to the end parts of the bar. In this case, a rectangle with a narrow slot should be attached to the front end, and a square hole to the rear end.
  • Fasten the handle in the form of a rounded bar to the bar.
  • Using the factory bolt, attach the resulting structure to the electric jigsaw.

That’s all, in just a few steps, with the minimum amount of materials available, you can turn an electric jigsaw into a reciprocating saw and use the tool for various jobs. If necessary, the wooden structure can be detached and a regular jigsaw can be obtained again. For greater clarity, it is recommended to make the transformation of devices according to the video.

HOW TO REPAIR AND CHARGE THE RECIPER SAW BATTERY

Little pleasant in the fact that the battery for the “Ryobi” reciprocating saw ordered to live a long time. it stopped charging. I really didn’t want to buy a new one, because it costs about 4000 rubles.

At first it seemed to me that after a large overload, the battery burned out. I tried to cut a very thick tree by inserting a blade longer than the standard one. I sawed down a tree, but the battery was dead and did not want to charge anymore.

It was necessary to open the battery and measure the voltage on the banks: maybe one of them was out of order? Replace it. and that’s it.

The screws on which the saw body and the battery are assembled are tricky. The head of the key is a hexagonal sprocket. Unscrewing such a screw with an ordinary hexagon will not work.

The case helped out. A long time ago I bought a set of keys on the radio market. I thought it was hexagons, but it turned out to be asterisks. For many years, the set lay in a toolbox, until, fingering the keys, I stumbled upon it.

This is how I managed to open the Ryobi’s battery. There are never enough different keys and screwdrivers. If you bought a set of screwdrivers with unusual heads, rest assured. it will come in handy soon!

I measured the voltage on all five banks. Each lithium cell had more than three volts. it looks like all the cans are alive. It could be concluded that the charger broke.

How to charge?

I had to think about how to charge the battery. I had a universal charger, and I could charge each can separately if they were taken out. It was necessary to come up with some kind of adapter. Immediately, nothing original occurred to me, except to make a wooden insert into the universal charger. Throw a wire from it and try to charge each can separately.

The cylinder was sawn off from a round beech lath. Several of these slats from an old crib were kept in a barn. So they came in handy.

Contact terminals are cut from thin (O, A mm) galvanized.

We insert the wooden “battery” into the charger and set the charging parameters. I charged each battery cell separately: I started it in the morning, finished it in the evening. All five cells were charged to 4.2V.

They resemble the contacts of a rechargeable battery in shape. Wires are soldered to the terminals. The wooden cylinder will be inserted like a battery into the charger.

On the other side of the wire there will be a clamp for the battery. Two plates from a children’s construction set are attached with screws to a wooden block.

He threw the wires over the screws. Screws and will be a contact block.

The clamp is installed on the battery in the battery pack.

The battery is assembled, the charge indicator showed full charge.

First I tried to saw through a piece of board. the saw worked as usual. Then I cut dry branches on a small apple tree.
