The GXV340K1 motor produces 11.0 HP (8.2 kW) at 3,600 rpm of maximum output power and 23.0 Nm (2.3 kg·m, 17.0 ft·lb) at 2,500 rpm of torque.

The Honda H3011 is available with two transmissions:

• The gear type transmission uses parallel shaft, constant mesh and sliding key. The gear transmission has five forward gears with traveling speed from 2.4 km/h to 7.9 km/h (1.5 mph to 4.9 mph) and one reverse gear 2.8 km/h (1.7 mph).
• The hydrostatic transmission. The transmissiom has three approximate ground speeds: “Reverse” from 0 to 2.7 km/h (0-1.7 mph), “Mowing” from 0 to 5.3 km/h (0-3.3 mph) and “Transport” from 5.3 to 7.2 km/h (3.2-5.3 mph).

Assembly

Assembly and set up of this Honda mower is quick and simple. The machine comes in a cardboard box, which can be cut open and removed from around the handlebar assembly. Then, the handlebar is flipped into position and tightened in place.

The grass bag also requires some simple assembly.

I Bought an HRX217 mower from Home depot in November 2010. It was a floor model at a good price. It is a great machine! Very nice cut and very easy to use! I did not get an owner’s manual (being a display unit). I need to Change the oil. How much oil does it hold? What weight of oil ? Thank you! Chris P.S. I own 2 Honda cars and one Honda mower. Hi Christian, I’m not surprised you like your Honda mower. They are great machines. The manual for the particular model featured here says that SAE 10W-30 engine oil is recommended for general use, although other viscosities may be used depending on the average temperature in your area. It goes on “The SAE oil viscosity and service classification are in the API label on the oil container. Honda recommends that you use API service category SJ or later oil.” Refill amount is 12.0 – 13.5 oz (0.35 – 0.40 litre). Hope this helps.

Just picked up the Honda HRX2173HYA at the nearby Home Depot. After unboxing and filling the oil and gas then a quick read of the instructions – from that point on I can think of nothing but superlatives to describe that initial experience. Astounded, Fantastic, Amazed. I’ve never in my life experienced a mower like this. In researching before buying, the popularmechanics mower rating team described the HRx series as the luxury machine of mowers – and they were’nt kidding. Seriously. This mower will breeze over the thick Zoija grass without wearing me out. Talk about some serious power! I mistakenly had the mow lever all the way down when I first engaged – Whoaaa! The machine flat peeled out like it was ready to drag me along. It’s quiet as far as lawn mowers go – I was impressed – velvety smooth and quiet. Well, I’ve only had this mower for not even two hours yet, but I can see already that mowing with this machine will literally be like a walk in the park. Effortless, lazy man mowing!

Hi Keno I think that you are what is called a satisfied customer :). It is hard to beat Hondas, there is no doubt. If you can stretch to the extra dollars, you do get a class mower. Power and solid build is at the heart of it. I recently picked up a John Deere JS36. It’s an okay mower, but not a patch on the Honda that I was used to using – even though that Honda was 6 years old and a much smaller machine.

I have owned the Honda HRX217HYA now for several years. I use it commercially on lots up to.5 acre. This machine has never let me down. The twin blades work great at mulching up the grass into very small pieces. At full throttle, it is indeed a very brisk walk, which ends up at 4 miles per hour. It is fairly efficient at burning gas. YES, it has plastic wheels that I have had to replace already. You can buy Honda side bumpers that you install yourself to help protect the body of the machine. It is heavy at over 90 pounds fueled up. I use a set of metal folding ramps to load it into my SUV. My only regret is that it doesn’t have the Commercial Engine that comes in the HRC216HXA. But that unit is twice as much money as the HRX217HYA!

I’ve had this mower for a year and for some reason it stops cutting. My brother said I had to turn it upside down and turn the blades. Doesn’t seem right.

My problem is a bit different from others. I have had my HRX217 for just under a year and it was stored indoors over last winter. The unit worked great for the first season but now, in the second season, I find that I am unable to run the mower at a slow waling speed or the mower cuts out. If I run the mower at full speed then the mower runs faster that I can walk. It seems to me that the blade speed and the forward walking speed are working in unison. So what I am saying is that I am unable to get the slow walking speed to work. When I stored the mower last winter I collapsed handlebar and folded it away. Is there any possibility that the clutch and throttle cables have been somehow damaged. My unit has the electric start. Hopefully, Peter Kelly

Peter. Your mower has the electric start. that means your unit is HRX217VLA or HRX217HZA model. To control the speed in HRX217 VLA model you have Smart Drive. but in HRX217 HZA model that I have owned one you have HRX Cruise Control. If your mower model is same as mine. you can have the slow walking speed by adjust 2 nuts under Shift Lever : At first. you put Shift Lever up to the lowest speed then open both nuts. Then. pull the cable toward the motor with moderate force ( not to use max strength ) after that turn the nuts back accordingly. I recently I adjusted my unit by pulling the cable out to get faster speed and after adjusting I had to run fast behind the mower ! If you own the HRX217VLA model I think you should do the same
