I decided to use a tiller for transporting goods, I have to decide which trailer to pick up for it. The cart can be made by yourself, taking into account your requirements for it and the capabilities of a manual mini tractor.

We determine the main characteristics of the trailer. focusing on the factory models

The design of the tiller cart is not overly complex. If you have an angle grinder, electric welding and a drill, almost any owner of a hand-held mini tractor can make a trailer on their own. The main thing is to correctly draw up its drawing or sketch before assembling the trolley, and then, strictly according to it, perform all the work. To do this, you first need to decide on the main characteristics of the trailer: carrying capacity, dimensions and some others. To simplify this procedure, it is recommended to focus on factory, industrial-made models of motor-block carts.

Factory trailers are produced with carrying capacities ranging from 300 kg to 1000 kg with bodies of different sizes. These parameters depend on what kind of tiller the cart is intended for use, or rather, on its technical characteristics. In accordance with this, there are 3 main types of trailers: for heavy, medium and light manual mini tractors.

With heavy, power over 10 hp. tillers, as a rule, use one or two-axle carts with a body length of 2-3 m and a width of 1.2 m.Such trailers are designed to transport goods weighing 500-1000 kg.

Tiller trailer for transporting heavy loads

For medium manual mini tractors. with a capacity of 4.8 to 10 hp. oriented uniaxial bogies with a body size of 1.0 × 1.5 m, 1.1 × 1.4 and the like. Their carrying capacity is 300-500 kg.

With light tillers, with a capacity of up to 4.8 hp, single-axle trailers with a body length of 0.85-1.15 m and a width of 1 m are usually used.Carrying capacity of THESE bogies is 300 kg.

The height of the sides in factory standard trolleys for tillers is 30-35 cm.On heavy-duty trailers, side fences of a frame structure are installed, the height of which is 50-60 cm.

To make loading and unloading easier, the tailgate of the bogies is made of folding and removable. On some models, in addition to the rear one, both side ones are opened and removed, which increases the convenience of filling the body with cargo and releasing it from it.

Trolley tailgate

All standard trailers are manufactured as a trailer. The models for medium and light tillers have a hydraulic lift cylinder and this feature is realized by the design of the cart. The body on the trailer is installed so that its center of gravity and the load in it is located on the pivot axle, combined with the wheelset of the bogie. This balancing makes manual tipping much easier.

This is due to the fact that when descending on a steep slope, the inertia of a laden trailer will be extinguished only with the 1st brake of a hand-held mini tractor. Therefore, trolleys for heavy tilers must be equipped with their own braking system.

What materials and how can you use to assemble a trailer yourself

The simplest way to scold the frame was from a corner, channels and a profile pipe. I-beams and round tubes are also suitable.

A steel bar should be taken as the wheel axle. Its diameter must be at least 30 mm, and its length must be at least 1070 mm, but so that the wheels do not protrude beyond the dimensions of the trailer. The rod is welded to the longitudinal hinge and frame corner supports.

The wheels will fit from any agricultural machinery or motorcycle sidecar. To fit the diameter of the bearings in their hubs, it will be necessary to grind here.

It is easier to make the body with your own hands from boards, fastening them at the corners with metal corners. Fix to the frame with bolts. The optimum board thickness is 20 mm. To facilitate loading and unloading, it is better to make the sides hinged. The bottom of the body can be made of edged boards, but the trailer will be more reliable and durable if you use sheet metal for this, preferably 2-3 mm thick. A car seat is perfect as a seat.

DIY plank body

We do the hitch (swivel unit) of the trolley with our own hands from a piece of steel of a suitable size, having drilled or drilled a hole in it, into which the console would easily enter. It is advisable to make the swivel assembly according to the scheme proposed in the above drawing. with the introduction of bearings of a suitable diameter. Their outer cage is tightly planted in the hitch body or welded to it, and the console is brought into the inner one without backlash.

Trailer hitch

It is made from any suitable piece of metal by drilling such a hole in it into which the hitch easily passes. It is advisable to make a rotary unit from a bearing with a suitable diameter, securing it as tightly as possible by welding.


You can use them from any agricultural machinery. Wheels from a regular sidecar from a motorcycle are also quite suitable. It will be necessary to grind to the diameter of the bearings in the wheel hubs.

For it, you can take a steel circle with a diameter of at least 30 mm. Here it is connected by welding with a longitudinal hinge and with corner supports. Select the length of the axle so that the wheels are under the body.

The simplest tiller trolley can easily transport loads weighing up to 400 kg.

Structural parts of the trolley

In any trolley, the following components can be conditionally distinguished: a driver’s seat installed on a welded frame, a central frame, the actual trolley with a body and wheels.


It is hammered together from 20mm planks with steel corners attached to the corners. The trolley body is attached to the frame through three strong support beams made of 50×50 timber.

How to make a trolley body

The body is easiest to assemble with your own hands from boards up to 20 mm thick, steel corners are installed on its corners. Boards are fastened to the frame with bolted connections. It is better to make the sides hinged: yes, it will be more convenient to unload large cargo.

Trolley frame

It is made of steel angle and pipe cuttings with round and rectangular sections. The whole structure looks a little intricate and has an excess margin of safety. It is designed for use on rough terrain and hence the harsh operating conditions for the cart.

A steel circle with a diameter of 30mm serves as a blank for the wheel axle. With an axle length of about a meter, the wheels are under the body. Wheel with angle supports and gusset plate welded to spars and longitudinal hinge body.
