How to remove a gear from an angle grinder

How to remove bearings from large motors

For the repair of large power units, many special devices have been developed, with the help of which ball bearings, oil seals are replaced, revised and serviced. But when repairs need to be done urgently, in the field and without special tools, you should act very carefully so as not to damage the main parts of the unit.

remove, gear, angle, grinder

In most cases, they try to knock out the part with a hammer or chisel, or remove it using levers, which are suitable for ordinary open-end powerful keys.

If the element is stuck on the shaft, after the preliminary spacer, a wire bracket is welded to the cage and they try to pull off the p / w using a winch or a hydraulic jack. The element can be warmed up before dismantling.

Makita

One of the Makita models describes the process of replacing bearings without the use of special tools, using any available means at hand. Hardwood blocks are used as base surfaces, which take on the load when performing various technological operations with the use of force.

As accessories, suitable thickness metal sheets and end heads are used (you can use pipes that are suitable for the size) when knocking out the bearings. The shaft centering holes serve as a base for a sharpened rod (in the video this is a modified old screwdriver), with which the shaft itself is released. The only tool in industrial production is a snap ring puller, although without it you can figure out how to remove them using improvised means.

How to disassemble an angle grinder and replace the bearing yourself?

It is quite possible to do this at home without contacting service centers or repair shops. Just follow my recommendations that will be given in this article.

Most often, work with an angle grinder takes place in a fairly dusty environment. Dust is often the cause of various malfunctions. When this tool breaks down, it is always not enough for chores. So you don’t have to delay the repair.

How to remove the bearing from the rotor

If you do not make preventive replacement of w / c in time, they begin to overheat, the electric motor is noisy and works ineffectively. Backlash occurs, the rotating rotor touches the stator, which can lead to failure of the motor and the need for a complete replacement of the assembly.

The performance of the elements is checked independently, by placing the engine on a flat surface, it is necessary to turn the shaft, first putting your hand on top.

There should be no extraneous and mechanical sounds. If the rotation is jerky or there is extraneous noise, then the elements need to be replaced.

To dismantle the parts, it is advisable to use special removable devices that differ in parameters and functionality, depending on the size of the unit. For massive rotors, large pullers with several arms can be used, small ones are equipped with strips or interchangeable plates.

For dismantling, the emphasis is placed on the inner ring; for ease of use, a pipe cut is used as a lever. First, you need to lubricate the shaft with lithol or machine oil.

What are the reasons for the failure of an angle grinder

The angle grinder has a mechanism that carries the greatest load. the rotor. It is also called an anchor. The damage to it is very different. These are temperature loads, and electromagnetic, and, of course, mechanical problems.

As a result, do not be surprised that the angle grinder does not work precisely because of a rotor malfunction. The armature winding overheats and burns out, this will cause a short circuit. So many owners of this tool often carry out all the repair work on their own.

A worn manifold will increase the vibration of parts such as brushes. They burn, as a result of which the mechanism sparks strongly. The main function of such brushes is to transfer current to the collector.

The bearings in the rotor often wear out. If you do not make timely diagnostics and maintenance of bearings, they are completely destroyed. If during operation of an angle grinder you hear a noise that was not previously there, be sure to check the condition of the bearings.

The stator is a stationary component in an electric motor, there is a winding on it. The angle grinder rarely breaks down directly from the stator.

The gearbox is responsible for the rotation of the gear. It needs to be cleaned and lubricated in time.

Most often, brushes are changed in a grinding machine, because the basis of their manufacture is graphite. Replacing these parts is easy.

Detailed photo report on the replacement of armature bearings of an angle grinder (angle grinder) 1400W 220V.

The angle grinder got its nickname “angle grinder” since the days of the Soviet Union. Because, at that time, this tool was manufactured and supplied from an angle grinder. The angle grinder in the arsenal of home tools is the most versatile and multifunctional assistant. The angle grinder in operation is subjected to strong and uneven loads and long periods of operation, therefore, malfunctions occur more often than with other power tools.

When turned on, an extraneous sound and increased vibration appeared in my angle grinder. It is more expensive to operate a tool with such characteristics further.

We begin the repair of the angle grinder by unscrewing the four screws of the gearbox cover.

But the front armature bearing. completely crumbled. The bearing balls were in the gear grease and the small gear retaining ring was worn on one side. To replace the front bearing, first of all, unscrew the covers of the armature contact brushes and remove the brushes.

Then we unscrew the four screws securing the angle grinder gearbox to the stator and remove the armature together with the gearbox housing.

To remove and install the armature gear retaining ring, you need to make a simple tool. For this I used old scissors. The ends of the scissors on emery were ground off, as in the photo.

This is the view I got from my retaining ring. For the convenience of mounting the retaining ring when assembling the reducer, the ends of the scissors were heated red-hot with a gas burner and bent at right angles to the plane of the scissors. Then again heated and cooled in engine oil.

After dismantling the armature gear, I removed the armature from the gearbox housing. This is the view of the front armature bearing.

The outer cage of the armature bearing is removed from the gear case by lightly tapping on a metal screwdriver inserted from the inside of the gear casing into the groove of the cage. It is important not to skew the cage when pressing out.

But the inner bearing race was tightly seated on the armature shaft.

To dismantle it, I used a standard screw holder for threading.

Studs were unscrewed from it for rotation when threading. And the rod holder itself is installed on the bearing race, so that the screws for fixing the rod fit into the groove of the bearing race. Then tighten the screws evenly on each side and thus securely attach the holder to the holder. Now we grab the puller with the paws of the tool holder and remove the clip from the shaft.

This is the view of the front armature bearing of my angle grinder.

New bearings must be filled with grease. To do this, you need a sharp awl, Litol 24 grease and a mandrel for mounting bearing caps. To lubricate the closed bearing, you need to remove the cover by prying it with an awl, as in the photo.

Now we fill the bearing with grease and put the cover in place.

To put the cap in the bearing without damage, you need to select a mandrel in diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the bearing cap. I used a socket wrench head.

The bearings are lubricated. Press the front bearing into the gearbox housing using the outer ring of the old bearing and fix it with a flange.

At the anchor, the anchor collector is cleaned with P1000 sandpaper. With a stationery knife, carefully, without much pressure, we clean the tracks between the collector lamellas. And after these operations, we carefully wipe the collector with a cotton napkin moistened with white spirit or other solvent.

Next, it is necessary to press the armature shaft into the inner race of the front bearing. To do this, place the gearbox housing on a wooden surface with the bearing facing up. We insert the armature shaft into the bearing cage from above and lightly tap it through the mandrel, along the rear armature bearing we put the armature in place.

We put a small gear on the armature shaft. If, after installing the gear, the groove for the circlip extends beyond the end of the gear, then the installation is correct. We put the retaining ring in place.

If the groove does not come out due to the end of the gear or is halfway out, the shaft must still be seated in the housing.

After these operations, remove the old rear bearing from the armature shaft and install a new one. We place the armature with the gearbox in the stator and tighten the four screws that secure the gearbox. We check the shaft for rotation. The shaft should rotate easily without jamming in the bearings. We put in place the contact brushes and screw their covers. Now we put a special grease for the angle grinder into the gearbox of the angle grinder and put in place the gearbox cover with the secondary shaft.

We tighten the four fastening screws and check the angle grinder by plugging it in.

The angle grinder should pick up speed quickly and work without extraneous sounds. At this, the repair of the angle grinder can be considered complete. Good luck with your work!

Disassembly of the angle grinder for prevention

I would recommend disassembling your sander not only for repair and replacement of worn parts, but also for regular maintenance. This will significantly extend the life of the electrical device. Any mechanism works longer and better if it is properly maintained. The angle grinder is no exception.

Disassemble the tool as described in this article. Only now you are doing this not for repairs, but in order to thoroughly clean and lubricate such a necessary tool in the household.

The most ideal option for cleaning is the use of compressed air and blowing nozzles in compressors. You will have to take into account that the angle grinder is cooled through a distance in the middle of the armature and stator.

Excessive construction dust, various particles on the engine. All this needs to be cleaned from time to time.

And if the angle grinder has already been disassembled for prophylaxis, apply fresh lubricant to the parts, as described earlier.

As you can see, maintenance and repair of an angle grinder is not that difficult.!

Issue: How to remove an anchor from an angle grinder without breaking anything | Life hack

After reviewing many videos on the topic of removing the anchor from an angle grinder, I came to the conclusion that no one knows how to remove

How to anchor in place

To install a new angle grinder armature in place, take a new part, and then reassemble the tool in the reverse order. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  • A fixing disc is installed on the armature shaft.
  • The bearing is installed by pressing.
  • The small gear is pushed on and secured with a retaining ring.
  • The armature is wound into the gearbox housing, the docking holes are aligned.
  • The gearbox mounting bolts are tightened.
  • The anchor with a gearbox is inserted into the body of the angle grinder and fixed.
  • The brushes are deposited in their places, closed with lids.

After completing the above steps, the angle grinder is ready for use. The anchor has been replaced.

Main modules used

  • Housing, usually made of special impact-resistant plastic.
  • Powerful electric motor.
  • High quality reducer.
  • Smooth start.
  • Motor switch.
  • SJS system. The presence of the system allows the tool to run smoothly without jumps. In addition, it shuts off the angle grinder in the event of a jammed disc, minimizing vibration. It saves the operator from serious injury.
  • Protective cover.
  • Additional handle. It can be used to hold the angle grinder while working. This handle can be installed in a variety of positions, which makes the tool versatile.

The disassembly process of an angle grinder requires several tools:

  • spanners;
  • screwdrivers;
  • pliers;
  • vice;
  • hammer;
  • grease;
  • rags;
  • gas wrench.

The difficulty of disassembling an angle grinder is due to the fact that the parts have a very tight contact. This allows you to cope with the highest loads. Parts do not move during work, and there are no oscillatory movements. Of course, the disassembly is best done by the master, but you can try to do everything yourself with the utmost care.

Tools required for work: round-nose pliers, ruler, vernier caliper, pliers, electric drill, steel brush, megohmmeter.

Before you begin to disassemble the angle grinder, you need to prepare the workplace by removing all unnecessary parts from the workbench. A clean table will make it possible not to accidentally lose any small detail.

In the first step, the bolt holding the casing is unscrewed. It is very easy to remove it, there are no particularly tight connections here. Then you need to unscrew the screw, remove the plastic plate. Slide the outer cover towards the cord.

Basically, all models of angle grinder have a variety of devices. However, the common part is the electric motor, which includes:

  • anchor;
  • stator;
  • collector;
  • brushes.

Another indispensable part of an angle grinder is a gearbox designed to regulate power and speed. The electric motor together with the gearbox is mounted in the housing.

Four bolts hold it. They must be unscrewed and with the utmost care remove the gearbox from the housing of the angle grinder. Disassembling the gearbox is necessary to clean it and replace worn parts. This is one of the most important components of an angle grinder, which undergoes enormous loads during operation.

It includes:

  • body;
  • large gear;
  • driven gear;
  • bearing. It must be lubricated to reduce the friction force.

To remove the rotor from the gearbox housing, it is necessary to unscrew the nut that holds the rotor. Remove the rotor with a special puller. Such an operation is associated with some difficulties, therefore, if there are no special skills, it is better to provide such work to professionals. A puller is indispensable here.

I must say that for simple removal of dirt, such a detailed disassembly is not required. It is only needed to replace a worn bearing or a worn out rotor.

To remove the anchor, you must first remove the brushes and the gearbox, carefully pull out the anchor, holding it by the gear.

This operation will require some effort. Removing the anchor from the case must be done very carefully, as it breaks easily.

When during operation there is strong sparking, high heating of the case, you just need to get the armature to clean the collector. The device will be ready for use again.

When the gearbox completely refuses to work, it requires complete disassembly for replacement parts and thorough cleaning. To carry out the work, you need to prepare a locksmith vice. All work is performed in a specific technological sequence:

  • A wrench is used to unscrew the bolt holding the gearbox housing.
  • The rotor body is clamped in a vice with great care.
  • Making light blows with a hammer, the body is removed.
  • The rotor is in a convenient position to remove the bearing. The vice is clamped again.

By placing a wooden block, the bearing is knocked out. To remove the gear from the gearbox axis, you must:

  • Wrap the rotor with a rag and secure with a vice jaws.
  • The gear is also wrapped in rags, using a gas wrench, turn it counterclockwise.

The spindle axis works in conjunction with the main gear, which includes:

  • body;
  • bearing;
  • rubber cuffs.

To disassemble the spindle housing, you must first remove the main gear, for which special tools are used.

After removing the gear, the body is installed in a vice. Attaching a wooden block, hitting it with a hammer, with great care, remove the spindle on which the bearing is put on. Removing the bearing is done as described above.

Disassembly of the gearbox must be carried out regularly, especially when the tool has been subjected to intensive use. After disassembling, replace the grease. The most commonly used “Litol-24”. I must say that the lubricant must change constantly after a certain period. This allows you to increase the life of the gearbox for many years, due to the reduced wear of its constituent parts.

To install a new disk, after cleaning the casing, you must perform the following actions:

  • Install the bottom flange in place;
  • We put a special gasket on top of it (if gaskets are not provided, you can cut them out yourself. The optimal material will be cardboard or tin).
  • Install the disk;
  • We put the second gasket;
  • Install the top flange on top;
  • We wrap the upper flange by hand in the opposite direction from the rotation of the angle grinder wheel, while holding the disk itself;
  • Next, press the release button again and scroll the flange with your hand until you feel resistance;
  • At the final stage, we make the final fixation using the same open-end wrench. To do this, insert the key into the holes and scroll a little more.

Remember that you need to tighten no more than a quarter of a turn, since if the flange is too fixed, the disc will become unusable.

After all the actions taken, you can safely continue to perform work.

One of the most frequently asked questions about mounting / dismounting accessories of an angle grinder is: “Which side should I put the disc on the angle grinder?”.

Usually, inexperienced masters ask such a question. Is it possible to set the circle on the wrong side. Yes. Firstly, if the disc is not flat, but, for example, a petal disc, then you will not be able to install it incorrectly, if the petals are located incorrectly, you just need to twist the casing and the handle onto the angle grinder. That is, the question disappears by itself.

If the circle is still flat, then you should be guided by its label, the so-called “shirt”.

If the angle grinder rotates towards itself, the disc should be installed with the “jacket” outward, if the disc rotates away from itself, then, accordingly, it must be installed with the “jacket” inward.

If you do not adhere to this algorithm, there is a high probability that the disk will fail very quickly or immediately deform.

Cut-off wheels for an angle grinder, in turn, have their own subspecies, such as:

  • Cut-off wheels for metal work;
  • Abrasive wheels for working with stone;
  • Wheels for woodwork;
  • Diamond discs (mentioned above).

The purpose of each type of disc usually corresponds to its name.

Among the grinding discs, there are four main subtypes. flap, wire, diamond and bakelite-based grinding discs (straight, T41 profile and disc-shaped, T27 profile).

  • The flap disc is made from sandpaper. Its main purpose. it is the elimination of existing coatings such as old paint, primer or paint coat. Also, with disks of this type, wood products are polished.
  • Wire discs are used by artisans to remove rust. They can also remove other types of stubborn dirt.
  • Diamond discs are used for polishing stone.
  • Disc discs are made of plastic or rubber and are used to polish metal surfaces.

Please note: in the process of working with most discs, a special paste or grease is used, which contains abrasives of the finest grinding. They are mainly used for sanding surfaces such as, for example, car body parts.

remove the disc from the angle grinder

This method involves the use of the famous VD-40 grease.

It is probably like electrical tape, applicable in all cases of life.

You need to spray the flange, wait about 5 minutes and try to unscrew it with a wrench.

The main question: How to choose the right disc for your angle grinder?

When choosing accessories for an angle grinder, first of all, you should decide on the type of proposed work. The choice of the type of disc will depend on this. We also want to mention that when choosing a consumable, be sure to take into account the power characteristics of each specific model. Examine the labeling. Often, it is printed on the disc itself and includes a set of symbols by which you can determine the relevance of this consumable to perform the intended work.

Also, focus your attention on such a parameter as the diameter of the disc. In no case should it exceed the size of the protective cover on the particular tool model. The size range of discs is usually represented by the following diameters: 115, 125, 150, 180 and 230 mm. The most common diameters are 125 mm. and 230 mm. They are optimal for most types of work and the capabilities of the tool itself.

Among the grinding discs based on bakelite, the most popular discs with a thickness of 6.00 mm. This parameter depends on the total diameter of the disc. The relationship is as follows: the larger the diameter of the disc, the greater its thickness and vice versa.

remove the disc from the angle grinder

First, figure out which way to unscrew the nut.

The flange must always be folded in the direction in which the disc rotates.

For this kind of work, you will need either two gas keys or two clamps.

Here’s what you need to do: destroy the remnants of the disc, fix the washer located behind the disc with one key, unscrew the flange with the second.

What to do if the disc is jammed (bitten) on the angle grinder?

Anyone who has experience of intensive work with an angle grinder has probably at least once encountered such a situation.

Usually, this happens if the disc is pinched between parts, it stops or breaks, and the motor of the angle grinder continues to rotate and thus irrevocably tightens the nut.

So what can you do if you bite a disc on an angle grinder?

Each master has his own secrets. Especially for you, we learned a few of them and now we will share the most common ways to get out of the situation.

How to Place a Disc on an Angle Grinder Correctly?

In order to correctly place the disc on the angle grinder, it should first be noted that the disc is mounted on the spindle of the angle grinder using a special clamping flange with M14 thread. Let’s take a closer look at how to remove a disc from an angle grinder. In order to unscrew the disc from the angle grinder, you first need to dismantle the flange. Especially for such purposes, manufacturers complete the angle grinder with a special open-end wrench. It has a specific shape. The pins located on the horns of this key are inserted into specially provided holes on the flange.

To unscrew the flange, we fix the spindle. To do this, we clamp the latch, which is usually a button on the top of the case. When pressed, the cotter pin is placed in the hole in the driven disc of the gearbox, and this in turn prevents it from rotating. Next, we insert the pins of the key into the specially provided holes on the flange, pressing the lock, you must simultaneously turn it counterclockwise and move the flange from its place. If the manipulations were successful and the flange succumbed, you can unscrew it by hand and put it aside.

Now let’s dismantle the disk. Often, in the process of intensive work with the tool, a kind of plaque from small particles of metal and abrasive material forms on the inside of the protective casing. For optimal, stable and durable operation of the angle grinder, remove the bottom of the flange and clean the casing with a steel brush.

The main difficulties that can arise in the process of removing the anchor from the angle grinder

Remember the sequence of actions when disassembling the tool and the position of all parts in the body. Sometimes, when removing an anchor from an angle grinder, certain difficulties can arise:

  • it happens that the bolts and connections rust or the threads break during the disassembly process;
  • as a result of a short circuit, the plastic parts of the device may melt;
  • deformed plastic elements stick to metal parts, making it much more difficult to disassemble the tool.

If you are unsure of your abilities, it is best not to open your angle grinder at home. In this case, you will need the help of a specialist to properly remove the anchor from the instrument. If, when analyzing the state of the systems, tool parts and removing the anchor from the angle grinder, you find a breakdown that you cannot fix on your own, stop all further actions to restore the device to work. Contact a service center or workshop for help. A qualified specialist will carry out detailed diagnostics of all parts and mechanisms of the tool, will be able to properly remove the anchor from the angle grinder, find and fix the breakdown. Your appliance will be ready for use again.

How to remove an anchor from an angle grinder. step by step guide

The process is carried out in several stages:

  • In order to remove the anchor on the angle grinder, you must first unscrew the bolt that holds the casing. You can easily perform this manipulation, since there are no tight joints here. To carry out the work, you will need a universal multifunctional ratchet screwdriver.
  • After loosening the bolt, the outer cover slides towards the cable. The individual models of the angle grinder are created using a variety of accessories. A detail that is present in all power tools. this is the engine. It consists of a stator, armature, collector and brushes. After removing the case, you must remove these same brushes. To remove, you must first move the springs, after which they can be easily removed.
  • After you take out the brushes, you can start removing the rotor. To do this, unscrew the four outer bolts. You can unscrew them with a screwdriver. Then the rotor head is removed. It is quite easy to remove it. manually by pulling it up. It remains to remove the rotor. It is removed along with the plastic cushion. This action can also be performed manually.
  • After removing the anchor from the angle grinder, it is necessary to remove the rubber seals on its axis. Next, it remains to free the part from the plastic pillow with a bearing and a gear. The upper nut is clamped with a gas wrench and unscrewed. This action does not require much effort. The plastic pad, gear and bearing are then removed. The anchor is removed from the angle grinder. Hence, the process is complete.

To collect the power tool, all steps must be repeated in reverse order.

How to remove an anchor from an angle grinder. getting started

Disassembly of the instrument, as a rule, does not require special training. It is enough to be careful and careful, and you will be able to properly remove the anchor from the angle grinder. The surface on which the power tool is disassembled must be level, dry and clean. Ensure sufficient lighting to clearly show all parts and fasteners.

How to remove an anchor from an angle grinder?

Often, during operation, the power tool becomes clogged with fine mechanical debris. This is fraught with overheating and failure of the device. To prevent such situations, it is recommended to periodically disassemble the tool to assess wear and clean it from contamination.

The angle grinder also needs regular maintenance. When sawing or grinding various hard materials with it, fine mechanical dust scatters in different directions. It often falls directly into the instrument. To clean the device, you will have to disassemble it, while you need to navigate the question of how to remove the anchor from the angle grinder. Similar manipulations are also performed during the repair or replacement of any part of the tool.

In an angle grinder, it is the anchor that is most susceptible to natural wear. Due to overheating or regular operation, a short circuit may occur in its contacts. You can also remove the anchor from the angle grinder to check its serviceability. In most cases, a failed part is not suitable for further use. It is replaced with a new one. But how to disassemble the tool without breaking it, and how to remove the anchor from the angle grinder? In this article, we will try to provide you with detailed information that will help you understand all the intricacies of the process.

Mandatory manipulations while removing the anchor from the angle grinder

Damage may not be seen on contaminated parts. When performing manipulations to remove the anchor from the angle grinder, as well as other components of the tool, do not forget to thoroughly clean them and wipe them with a dry cloth. If all parts are intact and working, removing dirt from their surfaces will still be an excellent prophylaxis to increase the service life of the device. Perform this step periodically to reduce stress on tool parts when working in challenging environments.

When removing the anchor from the angle grinder and generally disassembling it for cleaning or repair, check if the metal parts of the tool need to be relubricated. Litol-24 lubricant is usually used. By replacing the lubricant in time and removing internal mechanical debris, you can significantly extend the life of the electric angle grinder. This simple process will help prevent premature wear of component parts and the tool as a whole, as well as improve its performance.

The process of removing the anchor from the angle grinder

Every serious job requires close attention. When disassembling the tool and removing the anchor from the angle grinder, you must try to remember the location of the components inside the case in order to successfully complete the subsequent assembly. Leave a separate place for the bolts so as not to lose parts. When disassembling the device, you may find the following tools useful:

  • screwdrivers;
  • pliers;
  • hammer;
  • vice;
  • gas wrench.

You may also need grease and rags. All parts of the equipment are in close contact with each other. This is necessary so that under loads they do not vibrate and do not break, hitting each other. Sometimes this tight fit can make it difficult to disassemble, including removing the anchor from the angle grinder. But it is enough to be extremely careful and attentive, and you will succeed. The analysis of the elements, assemblies and systems of the device implies the analysis of the gearbox, since they constitute a single whole.
