We make a snowmobile with our own hands. it couldn’t be easier!

A few years ago, I made a snowmobile for my nine-year-old daughter with a homemade track made of conveyor belt and plastic water pipes as lugs. At first I had doubts about the reliability of such a caterpillar and how the plastic parts would behave in the cold. But during the two-year winter operation, no breakdowns or severe wear of the pipes occurred. This inspired me to create a lightweight snowmobile for myself with the same homemade track.

Realizing perfectly well that the less the weight of the snowmobile and the larger the support area of the track, the better its passability on loose and deep snow will be, I tried to make the structure as light as possible.
The principle of operation of the snowmobile is very simple (fig. 1). Four wheels are installed inside the track, which, when moving, roll along the conveyor belt, on which the lugs are fixed. And the drive of the caterpillar from the motor is carried out by a chain through the driven shaft with special drive sprockets. I took them from the Buran snowmobile “.

With an engine from a conventional auto-clutch tiller with only 6 hp. you won’t accelerate quickly. I was going to ride a snowmobile not on rolled tracks, but on loose snow, so I abandoned the soft suspension of the caterpillar and skis to reduce the weight of the snowmobile and simplify the entire structure.

First I made a caterpillar. A plastic water pipe with a diameter of 40 mm was cut into blanks for lugs with a length of 470 mm. Then each workpiece was sawn with a circular saw lengthwise into two equal parts.
Using the tool shown in fig. 2, with a circular saw for wood, I cut along plastic pipes for lugs.

The lugs were attached to the conveyor belt with two 6 mm diameter furniture bolts with a large semicircular head. When making a caterpillar, it is very important to maintain the same distance between the lugs, otherwise they will run into “the teeth of the drive sprockets and the caterpillar will begin to slip and slide off the rollers.

To drill holes in the conveyor belt for fastening bolts with a diameter of 6 mm, I made a jig. Drilled holes in the tape with a wood drill with a special sharpening.

Using such a jig, 6 holes can be drilled in the conveyor belt at once for attaching three track lugs.

I asked a turner to make the drive shaft of the track and bearings for the bearings. The frame of the snowmobile was made by myself from square tubes of 25×25 mm.

Since the pivot pins of the skis and the rudder are on the same mowing line and in the same plane, you can use a continuous steering rod without ball ends.

Ski sleeves are easy to make. I welded 3/4 ”female water pipe fittings to the front cross member. He screwed in the pipes with an external thread, to which he welded the bipod of the steering rack of the skis.

I recommend using skis from the Argomak children’s snow scooter. They are lighter and more elastic, but they need to be equipped with corners for attaching to the pivot stand of the snowmobile and a metal undercut from the bottom. for better control of the snowmobile when driving on crust or packed snow.

The chain tension is adjusted by displacing the motor.

The snowmobile is very easy to operate. When the engine speed is increased with the throttle grip located on the handlebar, the automatic centrifugal clutch engages and the snowmobile starts moving. Since the estimated speed of the snowmobile is not high (only about 10-15 km / h) and depends on the density of the snow, the snowmobile is not equipped with brakes. It is enough to reduce the engine speed and the snowmobile stops.

I will share a few tips that can be useful when repeating this construction.

I cut the pipe for the tracks with a hand-held circular saw on wood, first on one side, then on the other. It turns out smoother than cutting both walls at once. It is more convenient to handle small workpieces. If you immediately cut a long pipe along, then in this case the plastic will melt and the saw blade will clamp.

Caterpillars can be made of any width. And every designer has the right to choose what is more convenient for him: to make a wide but short track or a narrow and long one. Just remember that with a large track, the snowmobile will be poorly controlled and the engine is loaded more, and with a small track in loose deep snow, it can fall through.

Some of my photos show that there are plastic “barrels” installed inside the caterpillar. These are the guide stops for the skid, which should prevent the track from sliding off the rollers. But during the operation of the snowmobile, the caterpillar did not slide off the rollers without a slip, so the “barrels” can not be installed, which will reduce the weight of the snowmobile.

At the end of winter, I completely disassembled the snowmobile to determine its weight. The weight of its individual units turned out to be as follows: caterpillar. 9 kg;
drive shaft assembly. 7 kg; two pairs of wheels with axles. 9 kg; engine and steering wheel. 25 kg;
a pair of skis. 5 kg;
frame. 15 kg;
double seat with uprights. 6 kg.
All together weighs 76 kg.
The weight of some parts can be reduced even further. Nevertheless, the weight for a snowmobile with a track of this size is quite satisfactory.

The geometric dimensions of my snowmobile are as follows: the length of the snowmobile frame is 2 m; the distance between the axles of the support wheels (rollers). 107 cm; track width. 47 cm.The pitch of the track lugs depends on the thickness of the conveyor belt and it must be selected empirically (I got 93 mm).
I do not give the exact dimensions and drawings of the snowmobile parts, since everyone who is going to repeat the design will focus on those parts and components that they can purchase or make on their own.

Features of work on an all-terrain vehicle

In order for the technique to work correctly and not fail at a crucial moment, it is necessary to take into account some of the nuances. There can be many design options, but for the high-quality operation of the tiller in the form of an all-terrain vehicle, it is necessary that the equipment be equipped with an independent suspension. It is advisable to supplement everything with low pressure pneumatic wheels, which, if desired, can be replaced with tracks. As for the frame, it can be of any type. Here the master chooses the option that suits him best for a specific type of wheels and the purposes of using the all-terrain vehicle.

It is quite simple to create a homemade all-terrain vehicle from a tiller. For this, the spars are connected with a rack and a special steering sleeve. Next, the camera from the truck is used. It is better if it is with low pressure. It is necessary in order to conveniently hook the wheels. Next, the suspension and the motor are attached, which is taken directly from the tiller. Then you can attach the brakes, clutch and release the exhaust gases. The result is a great all-terrain vehicle that can be used for a variety of purposes. This technique can accelerate to 75 km / h. At the same time, the all-terrain vehicle will show excellent cross-country ability, including through swamps and difficult trails.

Where is used

Initially, this type of equipment was created as an assistant for the farmer. On a motor-cultivator, you can plow the land, transport goods, collect garbage, hay and leaves. However, the useful qualities do not end there. On its basis, you can create a snowmobile that will help those who live in the North.

This technique is very convenient to go fishing.

A good and properly modernized cultivator does not care about dirt or snow. Even on difficult sections, this technique can accelerate to 75 km / h.

The all-terrain vehicle is especially useful in rural areas, where there is no asphalt, but there are frequent showers and snowfalls. In this case, the snow and swamp vehicle can become a real savior. At the same time, when the season comes, the all-terrain vehicle can be upgraded again into a regular tiller, which will plow the land, clean the area and perform a lot of other useful things, allowing the farmer to save time and energy.

How to make a homemade all-terrain vehicle from a tiller: features of work

The question of how to make an all-terrain vehicle out of a tiller with your own hands is very relevant for farmers and even owners of small plots. This technique is an assistant for all occasions, since it is very easy to attach additional equipment to it, which makes the cultivator as functional as possible. Traditionally, this technique is used in garden plots and vegetable gardens. The tiller has a lot of work, as a rule, since he can plow the land, collect leaves, and collect hay in a heap. But for a certain time, the technique is idle. For this period, you can take her with other works. For example, you can make an all-terrain vehicle out of it. A little work is enough to turn the farming equipment into a versatile snow and swamp vehicle. At the same time, it is very easy to work with some equipment. There are models that are modified with a prefix. This option is as easy to use as possible.

It is more convenient to make an all-terrain vehicle from the Tiller Neva. A feature of this technique is that the manufacturer allows you to install universal attachments on it. This makes it possible to modify the cultivator as quickly as possible. Thus, a swamp buggy from a tiller can be made in a matter of minutes. However, to transform farm equipment, you must have an all-terrain tiller attachment at hand.

Manufacturers offer various additional equipment for this type of equipment. But such set-top boxes are not cheap. For those who are not ready to spend thousands of rubles on turning a tiller into an all-terrain vehicle, you can try to make equipment with your own hands. There are no particular difficulties here, but some skills are still needed. First of all, the master needs to understand the technique and be able to work with the welding machine.

Snow driving

On the basis of the tiller, you can also make a snowmobile. This is a great option for using agricultural machinery in the winter. Usually they are inactive in garages, but after a little modernization, the cultivator becomes an excellent all-terrain vehicle.

For work, you will need a tiller, a welding machine and powerful wheels, which, if desired, can be replaced with tracks. Such a snowmobile will have a very high cross-country ability and will cope even with difficult snow drifts. Assemble the snowmobile clearly according to the drawing.

But before starting the modification, you need to carefully consider the use of technology. The recommended power and type of construction depend on this. In addition, be sure to consider the carrying capacity of the device. This is especially important when the snowmobile is planned to be used for transporting heavy loads on snow.

READ  Tiller Neva starts up and stalls

In order not to make a mistake in the calculations and not to spoil any details of an expensive tiller, you should first study the drawings, and then make a layout out of cardboard. This will allow you to move in the right direction and assess your capabilities. For a good master, there should be no difficulties in making a snowmobile from a tiller with your own hands. Even the tracks can be made independently, with certain equipment at hand, as well as the skills to work with it. At a minimum, the master needs to be able to handle the welding machine.

How to choose a technique to create an all-terrain vehicle

As for the type of all-terrain vehicle that can be suitable for creating a snow and swamp vehicle, then almost any option can be chosen. But not all equipment of this type can be easily upgraded. Experts most often use the Neva to create all-terrain vehicles, since these motor-cultivators are the most versatile.

The main thing in a tiller is the presence of a cooling system. If you plan to transport goods or people on an all-terrain vehicle, you should pay attention to models with a powerful engine. To create a snowmobile, it is better to take the equipment that is equipped with a four-stroke engine. The fact is that such engines start much better in any weather. over, the four-stroke power unit will not cause problems even in sub-zero weather, and it is at this time that the snowmobile is planned to be used.

As for what exactly the engine should be, it is impossible to say unequivocally. Both gasoline and diesel power units are suitable for working on an all-terrain vehicle. Each case has its own pros and cons. The thing is that gasoline is more expensive. But diesel fuel freezes in freezing temperatures, so it is not suitable for a snowmobile.

Models of equipment for moving on snow or off-road also do not play a big role. Now both reliable Belarusian versions and good Chinese equipment are being sold, which are notable for an affordable price with quite acceptable quality. The main thing is to choose those models that are popular. In this case, if repair is necessary, you will not have to spend a lot of time searching for spare parts.

If you plan to create a tracked all-terrain vehicle, it is best to pay attention to the one-piece frame. The national team will have to work hard to achieve the desired result.

Tiller’s all-terrain vehicle

Given that the cultivator spends a considerable amount of time in the garage, many farmers tend to use this technique in other work that is not related to agriculture. So the idea came up to make an all-terrain vehicle from improvised equipment. over, it can be a snowmobile, and a swamp vehicle, and even a car capable of moving in mountainous terrain. If you approach the work with all seriousness, you can even make a tracked all-terrain vehicle out of a tiller. As a result, the device will work even in late autumn and winter, and not stand idle in the garage, which can be harmful for equipment.

Interestingly, the Tiller-based all-terrain vehicle comes out very good.

It easily overcomes off-road, wet country trails and snow embankments.

In order to cope with such work, you should use a motor cultivator with a 2 or 4 stroke engine. In this case, the equipment must be equipped with an air cooling system.

Experts recommend not to overfit the tiller. Otherwise, it will be difficult to return it to its original form. It is best to use an all-terrain cultivator attachment. This will reduce the operating time, and the tiller can be turned into a snow and swamp vehicle in a matter of minutes.

Do-it-yourself all-terrain vehicle from a tiller

There are different modifications of all-terrain vehicles from a tiller: on a caterpillar track or using low-pressure tires. Assembling a karakat. an all-terrain vehicle with low-pressure tires, is much easier than a tracked all-terrain vehicle, the design of such a vehicle is extremely simple.

As a rule, homemade products are made using scrap materials, an all-terrain vehicle can also be made with minimal financial costs.

The main parts of the structure:

  • Frame
  • Suspension and bridge
  • Steering column
  • Wheels
  • Motor

The frame will fit from motorcycles IZH or URAL, or you can make it yourself using thick pipes. The frame is the backbone of the structure, it must be strong to withstand heavy off-road loads.

To increase cross-country ability and maneuverability, the suspension must be independent. The side members must be connected to each other using a steering sleeve and a strut, all connections must be articulated.

The steering column is taken from any car, suitable for trucks.

Wheels will fit from KAMAZ, or you can make it yourself. It is necessary to take two discs of the required diameter, made of sheet metal, weld them onto the sleeve on both sides. After the camera is attached using a conveyor belt.

The motor is taken from the tiller, a power of at least 12 hp is required, because the weight of the entire structure is quite large. The engine should be installed closer to the drive wheels to make it easier to adjust the torque transmission mechanism. It is also possible to mount the engine in such a way that it is easy to remove and move back to the chiller.

Did you ever need to create an all-terrain vehicle? For what purpose?

Snowmobile from tiller on tracks

a crawler tiller to convert to a snowmobile is a little more difficult, but possible. Using the tiller motor, you can make a structure with great stability and passability. For this, the frame and transmission are mounted. Make sure the engine has enough power, you need a tiller of at least 6 horsepower. To make a snow motonart with an engine, you need to use:

Build A Go-Kart Snow Tracks from F1 Car DIY

  • reducer;
  • fuel tank;
  • steering;
  • centrifugal clutch.

It is good if you have tracks from other snowmobile machines in your household stock. If not, then don’t give up. It is quite possible to assemble the caterpillars on your own, using improvised tools and materials.

Next, you need to decide on the location of the engine: front or rear. Try to keep the structure as light as possible and keep the ski soft. All this will make it possible to achieve high cross-country ability in deep snow. The principle is as follows: inside the caterpillar, when driving, 4 wheels roll along the conveyor belt. Special soil hooks are attached to the tracks to enhance traction. Caterpillars can be made at your discretion, but you should carefully consider the dimensions.

Wide or too long tracks will unnecessarily stress the engine. This, in turn, will complicate the handling of the snowmobile on tracks in the snow. A track that is too small will not be able to support the weight of the entire structure with the driver. It will become unstable and sink into loose and deep snow. For the manufacture of tracks, the simplest materials are used: plastic or plastic pipe of small diameter, wheels, bearings.

Workpieces with a length of 0.5 cm are made from the pipe, from which ground hooks are obtained. They are attached to the tape at the same distance from each other. Then they are bolted into the holes on the conveyor belt. The frame is made using square pipes or a channel. Use a tie rod without ball ends, as the steering and ski axes lie in the same plane.

On the front of the frame, bushings are attached to allow the skis to turn. They can be made from steel couplings with small diameter nipples and threads. Racks of skis and tie rods are welded to the pipes. To control the snowmobile, corners with a metal undercut are attached to the skis, which will allow you to move on ice or snow crust.

The weight of such a snowmobile is no more than 100 kg, and it is very simple to operate the vehicle. Since the power of the motor is low, the speed does not exceed 10-15 km / h, so no brakes are provided. The end of the movement occurs due to the reset of engine speed or the so-called engine braking.

  • Snowmobile from Tiller on tires
  • Safe driving advice

What it is?

A snowmobile is a power-driven vehicle. The most famous are small-sized models equipped with track skis and controlled by the principle of motorcycle. However, in fact, there are many varieties of all-terrain vehicles on low-pressure pneumatics and caterpillar tracks, snowmobiles. Tillers are also divided into wheeled and tracked. You can make a snowmobile from a tiller with your own hands with any chassis, only in this case, different methods and materials are used.

Snowmobile from Tiller on tires

Another economical option for making a diesel snowmobile from a tiller and tracks. Motonart on tires from the MTZ-80 or Belarus tractor can easily move on the snow. This design is equipped with two additional wheels and pieces of metal pipe. Consider the benefits of such a snowmobile:

  • efficiency. cheap or used materials are used here: wheels from a VAZ car, a square tube, used tractor tires;
  • the ability to make a car at home using a welding machine, angle grinder, drill, knife;
  • high maneuverability of the resulting snowmobile, which has the ability to turn like a tank in one place;
  • good cross-country ability in deep and viscous snow;
  • active brake right or left track.

In order to make tracks, you need two tires from a tractor, used ones are quite suitable. Side parts are cut from each tire with an electric jigsaw or just a sharpened knife. The structure is made of a square tube and two additional wheels. It is required to securely fix the tiller and the structure with wheels. Then the caterpillar obtained from the tire is sequentially pulled onto the front wheels, then onto the rear wheels. It turns out a diesel snowmobile on a caterpillar track, that is, on tires. In order to make it more comfortable, you can fit a small seat, which will not weigh down the structure. Otherwise, you will have to stand up to overcome the snowy expanses.

Fans of outdoor activities, hunting and fishing will appreciate the homemade snowmobile. The advantage of this incredible device will be high traffic at a low cost.

Tiller snowmobile on wheels

To turn a wheeled tiller into a snowmobile, you need to take:

  • an iron connecting structure-trailer;
  • wheels for winter use, able to overcome snow obstacles.

A strict condition for the whole idea. the trailer must be rigidly coupled to the snowmobile frame. A metal channel about half a meter long must be welded parallel to the axis of the snowmobile. To do this, two holes are drilled at the edges of the channel. Hole clamps on the edges provide additional fastening and structural rigidity. They are attached to the axle of the snowmobile with bolts with a lock nut, using a cross welded to the structure.

This mount will act as a stopper that holds the trailer in place, preventing it from shifting at an angle. Such an element, although it reduces the ability to maneuver on the snowmobile, makes it more stable. Thus, a two-wheeled mechanism on one axle can be easily converted into a stable four-wheeled vehicle. At the same time, you will not need any diagrams and drawings, or additional costs.

A snow scooter with a motor will also require the correct selection of wheels. The easiest option is to purchase them in a retail network for a winter purpose, but it is not always advisable to look for easy ways. A more economical solution would be to make the wheels yourself. The budget option is to equip the snowmobile module with cameras designed for trucks. Deflated cameras are put on each wheel and fixed over the chain for driving on snow and ice. One is not enough, you need about five. An inflated chamber in a cache of chains will be an ellipse with a surface divided into segments like a daisy.

READ  How To Make A Cart For A Tiller With Your Own Hands

Another option for using ingenuity and saving the family budget is to use metal hoops over the cameras. They should be wide enough, twice as wide as the snowmobile wheels. The diameter of the hoop must match the inflated wheels of the tiller and trailer. Several metal plates are welded on the inside of each hoop. The thickness of the plates must be made about 2-3 cm. After lowering the cameras, you should put hoops on the wheels of the snowmobile and pump them up again. The inflated chambers will squeeze as much as possible against the metal circles. Plates like dirt lugs help increase traction on snowy roads.

Safe driving advice

Do not forget that any vehicle, even one made by yourself, requires attention and care. You cannot overestimate your capabilities and move in the dark or in bad weather conditions. If visibility is poor, you may not notice changes in the topography of the ground, holes, ditches covered with snow. The low stability of the snowmobile when hitting any obstacle (stones, stumps, metal objects) can lead to overturning, throw off the rider and / or press down with its mass, cause injury, or even death.

Care is required when overcoming slopes and when driving under any overhanging obstacles: sagging wires, stretch marks, fallen trees. The blow will hit the rider’s chest, so if there is a backrest, injury is inevitable. Be aware of possible road obstacles and take safety seriously.

For how to make a snowmobile from a tiller with your own hands, see the next video.

The design of converting a tiller into a snowmobile

First, you need to depict the design of the future machine in the form of a drawing. For this, an analysis of made homemade snowmobiles will help. The structure itself will consist of two parts: driven and driven. The driven part consists of shock absorbers, runners, and a steering column. For the manufacture of the leading part, you will need a frame, a drive and a power unit.

When a self-made project is being developed, you should determine in advance the parts of the structure that are made independently, and highlight those parts that need to be purchased.

After creating the drawing, we proceed to making the frame. For this, it is advisable to use pipes. Sometimes ordinary plumbing is used, but for greater strength, you need to use pipes from motorcycle frames. To give the frame the desired shape, you need to bend the pipes using a pipe bender. They are fixed by welding.

To avoid gross mistakes when assembling the snowmobile, the frame parts must first be spot welded. After checking the correctness of the design, the joints are welded with a single continuous seam. After that, brackets for installing the engine, runners, seat, steering column and other parts are welded to the finished frame.

How to convert a tiller into a snowmobile

The best winter vehicle for our country is a snowmobile. Its distinctive feature is high cross-country ability and increased maneuverability. In addition, it is economical in fuel consumption. The modern market is filled with expensive brands of snowmobiles, so not everyone can buy it. If you have a tiller, free time, the necessary tool and a little ingenuity, you can build a snowmobile yourself, below we describe how to convert a tiller into a snowmobile.

Snowmobile Runners and Engine

Skids are one or two wide skis pivotally attached to the steering column. Shock absorbers are the best solution for the front suspension. Lever shocks, which have been used on motorcycles, are best suited for this purpose.

The engine and gearbox are mounted on the drive end of the assembled snowmobile. Here you need to decide in advance whether to use tracks or wheel drive for movement. Both types of actuators contain both advantages and disadvantages.

The rear drive wheels installed on the snowmobile allow it to be more maneuverable due to its light weight. But in order to avoid wheel slip on loose snow, they must be equipped with chains. When using caterpillar tracks, the cross-country ability of the snowmobile increases, but its weight increases significantly, which reduces maneuverability.

How to convert a tiller into a snowmobile

Why Tiller? This is the most used unit, which is available from almost every owner of a personal plot. In winter, there is no need to use it for cultivating the land and caring for plants. Therefore, in winter, the engine from the tiller can be installed on a snowmobile, and returned to the tiller in the spring.

Half Track Garden Tractor Build with a John Deere 317 Homemade OTT

In the manufacture of a snowmobile, engines are usually used from middle class tillers, with a rear drawbar and manual control. As an option, you can use the “Neva” tiller for the manufacture of a snowmobile. The cost of such a unit is average, and the installed engines are assembled in Japan.

Also, forced air cooling is installed on such engines, which is a plus for the manufacture of a snowmobile. The result of all this work is an excellent snowmobile with a power of 6-7 hp. This will allow you to transport one or two people and a small load, below we describe how to convert a tiller into a snowmobile in more detail.

To independently assemble a snowmobile, you need the following parts: an engine, a welding machine, a pipe bender and some purchased spare parts. Several stages of making a snowmobile from a tiller.

Snowmobile tracks

You can also make tracks for the snowmobile yourself. In this case, you can use various materials: conveyor belts, motorcycle chains, water pipes, etc. The main thing is to make them reliable, lightweight and of high quality, so that there is good adhesion of the tracks to the surface.

The developed speed of the snowmobile is 60-70 km / h. But even at this speed, the snowmobile remains a rather dangerous form of transport. Since the movement takes place on the snow, the movement surface will change repeatedly, even during a short trip. A particular danger appears during thoughtless driving in the forest at high speeds. You should also carefully move in open unknown spaces, after a fresh “light snow”.

So that when driving there are fewer problems, you need to wear special clothing. The higher the speed of the snowmobile, the more demanding you need to be on your clothing. In our time, felt boots and quilted jackets are no longer suitable. Clothing must be specifically designed for snowmobiling. You also need to use a specialized helmet.

Crawler

The caterpillar track is constructively considered more difficult to perform. In fact, we are talking about a caterpillar attachment, the operation of which is provided by the main motor. Units of this kind are distinguished by a high level of cross-country ability, reliability and stability. If there is heavy snowfall in your region in winter, this technique will be indispensable.

Conveyor belt, motorcycle chain and water pipe are suitable for making tracks directly.

The use of a fishing line for sheathing the edges of the tape will significantly extend its operational life. Aim for 10 mm spacing when sewing stitches. It remains to sew the edges so that the tape is closed in the form of a ring. Even if the snow is loose and deep, the self-made self-propelled gun will not slip, but remember that maneuverability will decrease with high cross-country ability, since the weight factor will play a role. The undercarriage of the tracked unit can reach a weight of 30 kg.

Self-production

Let’s consider step by step how to make different types of snowmobiles with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself snowmobile from a tiller: read in order

Do-it-yourself snowmobile from a tiller: reasons for choosing and selection criteria

tiller is a worthy technique for reincarnation, which is in the arsenal of almost every inhabitant of our country. In the list of home-made devices that can be adapted from it, the snowmobile occupies one of the first places, competing with the karakat and the all-terrain vehicle. This is due to the fact that in winter, when a snowmobile is needed, the farm does not need standard tasks for plowing, hilling or mowing grass. Therefore, it makes sense to remove the engine in the winter and make a snowmobile on its basis, and in the summer to return it to the tiller and operate it in the standard scheme.

Not every tiller modification is suitable for a snowmobile. It is best to use for this purpose those that have:

  • rear towing hitch;
  • the ability to control manually;
  • medium-power air-cooled motor.

Tiller Neva, which are available in eight models, are considered ideal for a homemade Tiller snowmobile. All of them represent a group of soil cultivators with an average traction potential (6-9 hp). Despite their budget, motor systems are assembled and tested in Japan, which makes them unusually durable.

Considering all these points, these tillers make snowmobiles with good power. This means that he will be able to transport not only the driver, but also at least one passenger.

Wheel travel

If the snow cover in winter in your area is not too high, it is more advisable and economical to give preference to the wheeled option. All you need is a compact trailer and matching wheels. The maneuverability in this case is much higher, since the specific weight of the rear-mounted wheels is relatively low. The installation of special chains will prevent the equipment from slipping in the loose snow cover. There are two ways to make wheels:

  • Truck cameras can be used to craft wheels. Lower them and put them on the wheels of the tiller. In the final step, use chains to wind the wheels, fix the ends and only pump them with a pump last.
  • Equip the trailer and tiller wheels with metal hoops. One per wheel is sufficient. When choosing the size of the hoop, be guided by the dimensions of the wheel. The width should be 2-3 times larger than that of the wheel, and the diameter should be slightly smaller. Weld some metal plates on the back of the hoop to increase the level of adhesion to the surface and ensure the stability of the unit. The optimum plate thickness is 25 mm. This will create a simulated lug. Before putting on the hoop, be sure to lower the cameras, they will be tightly pressed against it after inflation.

How to make a track attachment for a tiller

When assembling a snowmobile with your own hands, special emphasis is placed on the caterpillar track. Consider the features of assembling a homemade product: how to make a caterpillar attachment to a tiller with your own hands.

Some craftsmen install parts from a tiller or make them with their own hands, and who cannot afford to manufacture them acquire a universal factory tracked drive. A homemade caterpillar can be made from:

  • sleeve-roller chain and conveyor belt;
  • tires;
  • belts.

A self-made caterpillar attachment to the Buran series unit is often found. With such a unit, the entire chassis together with the engine weighs 20-30 kg.

The CAM snowmobile attachment to the tiller is produced only in Nizhny Novgorod. She runs on 3 rollers and is all-terrain. It can be ridden on both snow and mud.

READ  How to fill oil in a tiller gearbox

In order for the attachment to serve for a long time, it is important not to overtighten the tracks, as this leads to a break.

For a homemade snowmobile, there is also a “CAM” prefix, only in this case it will be clearly necessary to know the shape and parameters of the gearbox shaft.

Tracked module for tiller. Thanks to its wide tracks, this attachment is easy to move in deep snow. It is suitable for the tillers Neva, Oka, Tselina, Kaskad, Luch, and it can also be used on motor cultivators with some modification of the seats. In the finished attachment, you can adjust the tension of the tracks, which stretch when moving.

The driven part attached to the tiller is also of great importance. This is the driver’s seat and luggage space. In this case, you can use whatever comes to mind: a board, a stool, a sleigh, a chair, etc. The only important condition when choosing is the waterproofness of the seat.

Ready track attachment for Tiller Neva. There are universal track attachments on sale that fit any mini-unit, including the Neva tiller. They are easy to assemble and install. Very compact and does not take up much storage space. The optimal track width increases the flotation of the device. The risk of getting stuck in snowdrifts or mud is minimized. The undoubted advantage of ready-made tracks is their long service life and an affordable price.

Design features

The homemade tiller snowmobile is represented by the key elements in the form of a drive and driven part. The latter consists of runners, steering column and shock absorbers. The driving part should consist of a drive, a frame and a power unit. To have a clear idea of the design of future home-made equipment, select a suitable drawing, taking into account the conditions of further operation, then complete a sketch and make a cardboard layout.

As for the options for operation, they should be thought out in advance, so that when working on a drawing, they should be able to supplement and correct it. So you will have a clear idea of what you can make yourself in the future, and which elements you can get rid of altogether. It remains to decide between wheeled and tracked, both options were discussed in detail above.

Skids and engine

Wide skis are used as runners, which are attached to the steering column using a swivel joint. For the front suspension, use motorcycle shock absorbers.

The engine is mounted on the leading part of a homemade snowmobile. In this case, before installing the engine, you must decide what exactly to use. wheels or tracks. Each of these options has advantages and disadvantages.

If wheels are installed, the all-terrain vehicle from the tiller will be more maneuverable. If you make tracks, the cross-country ability of the snowmobile increases, but at the same time it becomes heavier.

Snowmobile design

To correctly assemble an all-terrain vehicle from a tiller, you first need to depict it on the diagram. Typically, a structure consists of two parts: driven and driven. The first named part consists of the following elements:

  • shock absorbers
  • steering column;
  • runners.

The leading part consists of a power unit, drive and frame. After creating the drawing, you can start welding the frame. For greater strength, it is worth using pipes that are used to create frames for motorcycles. But you can also use products that are used for the construction of a water supply system. You can give the pipes the desired shape using a pipe bender.

To avoid mistakes when creating a frame, you should first fix the elements of the system with spot welding. Only then can the joints be welded with a continuous seam.

After creating the frame, brackets are welded to it, which are necessary to secure the engine, runners and seat.

What powertrain is required to create a snowmobile

Most often, craftsmen use a unit that is installed on the Tiller Neva. It is a four-stroke gasoline engine with one cylinder. This device has air cooling. Such a motor is lightweight and has a manual start system. Repair of such a device can be carried out even by a person who has minimal knowledge of engine operation.

Using the described motor, you can make a good working snowmobile that can be used for driving on snowy ground. If you decide to purchase a tiller, including for creating an all-terrain vehicle, you should think about the type of engine. Gasoline and diesel units have their own advantages and disadvantages.

For all-terrain vehicles, motors from Chinese chillers are usually used, since they are low cost and at the same time easy to maintain. Before starting to create an all-terrain vehicle, it is worth remembering that the chassis is best done with independent wheel suspension. This will ensure the comfort of movement.

If a tracked all-terrain vehicle is being created, the frame must be solid, and when designing a wheeled version, it is necessary to create an articulated structure.

Caterpillars

Snowmobile tracks can be made with your own hands using the following materials:

  • conveyor belts;
  • motorcycle chains;
  • water pipes.

The speed of a homemade snowmobile can be about 60 km / h, so safety precautions must be observed while driving.

For light snowmobiles, the tiller is usually made from a conveyor belt and roller chain. To create such tracks, you do not need to have any skills or have specialized equipment.

To extend the life of the tape, its edges are stitched with fishing line. In this case, the step between the stitches should be equal to 1 cm. This will prevent the tape from loosening. To form a ring, the tape is sewn from the ends.

The choice of the thickness of the tape used depends on the capacity of the unit being created. The higher it is, the thicker the tape should be.

Do-it-yourself snowmobile from a tiller

The best vehicle for driving on snowy roads or fields is a snowmobile. But many of these designs are expensive, so you can often see a snowmobile that is built from a tiller. It is worth remembering that such a design can only be made with certain skills.

Stages of assembling a snowmobile from a tiller

The most common option is light “karakats”, which are characterized by good cross-country ability, provided by large cameras. Such machines are created in several stages:

  • The choice of the basis for the all-terrain vehicle. Usually, a frame from a Ural or Izh motorcycle is chosen as the basis. It is worth noting that the cars created on the basis of the Izh motorcycle are more maneuverable. Machines created using such frames are distinguished by good maneuverability on various types of soil, as well as on deep snow.
  • Creation of suspension and rear axle of a snowmobile. In order to make an independent rear and front suspension, it is necessary to connect the side members with a strut and a steering bush. This suspension ensures a smooth ride.
  • Installation of wheels. ATVs usually use cameras from a truck. They are attached to the suspension through the hub. Such wheels provide ease of control of the all-terrain vehicle and the safety of its use.
  • Installing the engine. After the suspension with wheels is installed, you can start securing the engine. After complete assembly, the car should be tested at low speed.

How a Tiller Converts to a Snowmobile

It is the tiller that is taken as the basis of the snowmobile, since many site owners have this unit. At the same time, tillers are usually not used in winter. Having built a simple snowmobile, you can install an engine from a tiller on it, which can be returned back after the end of winter.

Created snowmobiles usually have a power of about 7 hp, which allows you to carry two people with a small load.

In order to assemble an all-terrain vehicle from a tiller with your own hands, you must have the following main parts and tools:

  • welding machine;
  • engine;
  • pipe bender.

You will also need additional details, which you can learn about in more detailed consideration of the design of the snowmobile. Before making a snowmobile, it is worth drawing up a detailed drawing.

How to choose an engine

In order to create a snowmobile, it is necessary to consider the most important and central part of the entire mechanism. the motor. The motor must have a decent amount of traction to move the entire machine in tough snowy conditions. To make everything work out as it should, a powerful motor from Tiller Neva will do.

With such an engine, one or two people will be able to move around on a homemade snowmobile from a tiller with their own hands. Engine power has 6-7 horsepower, which is quite enough for driving on snow.

If you add a snowmobile stand to the tiller, the load capacity will increase and you can easily load your tiller for snow rides.

Why is this engine good, many people ask. In fact, there are many more advantages than one might think:

  • First of all, this is a democratic cost.
  • Good quality is also proven by Japanese production.
  • The motor has an additional air cooling system.

Also note that gasoline can be used as fuel.

A do-it-yourself snowmobile from a tiller. the best home-made devices and mechanisms. 110 photos and videos of the construction of a snowmobile

In modern times, few gardeners and gardeners do without a tiller. In warm weather, this technique is very often and densely used in ordinary daily affairs and never stands idle. But in the winter period, it is difficult for a tiller to find an application, and this suggests that the car will simply stand idle.

Snowmobile ON WHEELS 100hp

Home remodeling masters have come up with a use for the tiller and in the cold. I don’t want to move through the snow on my own, especially since in some places the snow reaches impassable volumes.

That is why a snowmobile is made from a tiller for the winter. This is a benefit both for the owner and for the equipment itself, since the tiller does not stand idle.

In the photo of a snowmobile from a tiller made with your own hands, you can clearly see that everyone makes such a model as he wants. For those who decided to create such a useful unit, you will need to choose which option is closer to him.

In this article, we will cover some important points for creating a snowmobile.

Summary of the review:

  • How to choose an engine
  • Features of the constructive plan
  • How to decide on a move option
  • Photo of a snowmobile from a tiller with your own hands

Features of the constructive plan

The simplest version of a snowmobile consists of a part that leads and one that is driven first. The second part consists of a seat, shock absorbers, a steering part and runners, thanks to which this part moves. The second part is much more complicated, since it contains all the elements that set the snowmobile in motion.

First of all, in the second part, it is necessary to correctly provide for the power unit, that is, the motor itself. The frame on which everything will be equipped and the drive is also important.

Diagrams and drawings of a snowmobile from a tiller with your own hands must be done in advance, and you can find the desired option on the network or in various kinds of literature.

To begin with, before drawing up a drawing, determine the purpose for which the snowmobile will be used. After the drawings, you will need to select parts, and, if possible, do some with your own hands.
