How to start a gasoline grass trimmer in cold

Before you start working with the brushcutter, you need to perform a few actions that will prepare the tool for work.

Fuel mix

Before you run the engine of your new lawnmower, you need to prepare a good fuel mixture. For a lawn mower with a two-stroke engine, you’ll need the right oil and gasoline. You need to mix it in the right proportions, which you can find out in the trimmer’s manual. The owner’s manual also tells you which fuel and oil are recommended for each model.

Do not prepare fuel in reserve, calculate such an amount, which is enough for one mowing. Use a plastic canister for fuel. A glass or metal container will also work. You need an ordinary syringe to conveniently fill the oil.

start, gasoline, grass, trimmer

Often tool and oil manufacturers specify different proportions, so owners of gasoline trimmers do not know which one to choose. Often the trimmer comes with a 1:25 ratio in the owner’s manual and up to 1:50 in the oil manual. Which is better??

Experts believe that if the trimmer instructions indicate the proportion 1:25 or 1:30, the manufacturer simply does not know what kind of oil will be used. Too much oil hurts the tool because it does not burn completely, leaving a small amount of coke that then clogs the engine parts. It is better to give preference to the proportion recommended by the oil manufacturer.

First start of the grass trimmer

When the weed trimmer is primed with fuel mixture, you can start the tool. To do this, do the following steps:

  • Place the tool on a flat surface.
  • Close the air damper with the appropriate lever.
  • Pump some fuel into the carburetor with a primer.
  • Turn the ignition switch on.
  • Start pulling the starter cord until you feel resistance.
  • After that, make a few strong jerks until the lawnmower starts.
  • When the grass trimmer starts, open the air damper.

If you could not start the lawnmower, or it immediately stops, try to open the air damper on the carburetor a little.

The reason why the grass trimmer fails can be:

  • overfilling the tank;
  • Excessive pumping of fuel into motors equipped with a manual supercharger;
  • engine wear on valves, cylinders, injectors, cam tappets, and other moving parts;
  • Gasoline and / or oil ran out in the tanks;
  • spark plugs are out of order;
  • clogging of fuel or air filter
  • Valves in the motor are disturbed or burnt.

The inspection begins with oil and fuel both in the tanks and a small portion of it in the engine system. “Empty” motor will not start despite a full tank, nor will an overflowing one.

Models

The most popular models for 2020 are:

  • Husqvarna LB 553Se gasoline mower pro. Speed 5 kilometers per hour. Country of manufacturer Sweden.
  • Champion LMH4412 lawn mower. Gasoline engine type. Home of the brand Russia.
  • BEAR CAT Echo WT190 petrol lawnmower. Fuel tank capacity of 1 liter. Country of production USA
  • STIHL FS 40 Autocut C 5-2 lawnmower. Working width of 38 cm. Country of manufacture USA.

Pre-starting preparations

So, let’s start with getting ready to go. So how do you get your mower ready for use??

First of all, reassemble it if it is disassembled. Detachable boom securely fastened in the latches. Check that the cutting attachment is locked in place carefully, particularly if it is a blade or saw blade. Gasoline grass trimmers tend to be extremely powerful, and the rotational speed of the cutting equipment in them is fantastic. That’s why a blade that is not perfectly fixed can hurt a person and cause vibrations in the tool that can lead to its breakage.

Gasoline models are most often equipped with a two-stroke engine, so they require the preparation of the fuel mixture. What is its purpose? Since these engines do not have a crankcase and a separate system for oil lubrication, this role is performed directly by the fuel mixture.

It is prepared in certain proportions and for one filling. At once dilute several liters, with a “reserve”, should not be, as the composition should always be fresh.

Checking the gearbox before starting the petrol grass trimmer should be done on a regular basis. Lack of lubricant or too little lubricant increases friction in the gearbox at quite high revolutions. This results in overheating of the gears as well. Gearbox of brushcutter fails. Regular inspection helps to prevent the occurrence of such failures during operation.

If you notice, before you start your petrol grass mower, that the gearbox does not have enough lubricant or that there is no lubricant, “LITOL” is put in the housing. To do this, you need to unscrew the screw on the bend of the gear housing and grease with LITOL in an amount of 1-2 ml.

When working with a gasoline trimmer for a long time, every 8-10 hours add grease to the boom gearbox.

How do you start with troubleshooting your brushcutter?

If the lawn mower won’t start or immediately stops after starting, you need to check all major components in sequence. The check algorithm is as follows:

  • Fuel tank (fuel quality);
  • The spark plug and the spark plug passage;
  • Air filter;
  • Fuel filter;
  • The breather plug;
  • Exhaust port.

These components are often the source of major problems that can be corrected after a thorough inspection.

Checking fuel mixture

Before starting the engine of a gasoline grasshopper, check the presence, and quality of the fuel mixture. Don’t save, don’t be greedy, and don’t be “smart” in this matter. Repair or replacement of the piston group is too expensive (sometimes up to 70% of the cost of a new tool). The correct oil and fuel mixture should be prepared according to instructions. Calculate your fuel allowance from your actual needs. Excessive petrol left after work loses its qualities with the lapse of time.

Check the spark plug and spark plug passage

If there is no doubt about the quality of the fuel mixture, but the lawnmower does not start, it could be due to a clogged plug. A usual spark plug wrench (for sure every motorist has one) and a spare spark plug will do for repair.

  • Unscrew the spark plug and wipe it;
  • Dry it thoroughly (do not burn it);
  • Drain the excess fuel in the chamber through the spark plug hole and dry it;
  • Clean the old candle from soot with a nadfill or a lady’s file;
  • We expose a gap with a distance of 1 mm (it is possible to check it with any coin);
  • Put everything back and try to start the weed trimmer.

Dry the channel for at least 30-40 minutes. Otherwise there is a risk to re-fill and a new spark plug.

If the plug is working, the socket, where it is located is completely dry, and the lawnmower does not want to start, lubricate the threaded connection with gasoline. It has to be slightly dampened. No matter how good the spark is, there is nothing to ignite in the dry chamber.

If the grass trimmer engine still does not start, you should rule out such a cause as a lack of spark due to poor contact between the spark plugs and the high-voltage wire. If the connection is good, but there is still no spark, most likely you have a “broken” ignition unit. You can’t do without a master here, t. к. This part is not repairable, but is sold as a complete unit.

Lawnmower Filter Diagnosis

Another reason why the gasoline grass trimmer stalls may be the air filter. To rule it out, try to remove the filter and start the grass trimmer without it. If it works, then you will have to change the air filter for a new one, or at least blow out and thoroughly clean the old one.

Gasoline grass trimmer can not start because of the contamination of the fuel filter. This is the next step of our algorithm. Here we check the condition of the filter element and replace it with a new one, if necessary. When changing the suction pipe do not leave the suction pipe without filter at all, this is forbidden by any instruction manual. Haste may turn into the engine piston group repair.

Breather and exhaust port

Often “delicate” brand-name models of chain saws don’t start and stop because the breather plug is clogged. The main function of this element is to equalize pressure in the tank. If it is clogged, it creates a vacuum in the tank and prevents fuel from flowing. You can solve the problem by cleaning the breather plug. You can use an ordinary needle for cleaning.

Normal operation of combustion engines may be impaired if there is dirt in the exhaust pipe or a clogged silencer mesh. This problem is encountered on older generation models. The problem can be solved by traditional cleaning and removal of the anti-sparking mesh.

The easiest ways to start the mower

The use of gasoline mowers is caused by the necessity of treating lawn or garden areas, open spaces. During use, the lawnmower, and in particular its mechanical assemblies, is subject to great stress from internal and external factors. To make the tool work as efficiently as possible from the beginning of the purchase and for a long time did not break down, you need a running-in gasoline brushcutter

before use. It is performed in stationary conditions by a trained specialist or the owner of the product himself, because there are no complex operations in the process. The main thing is to know how to properly run the gasoline tool, so as not to cause errors. With this question, you can also turn to professionals who sell you a new, not run-in mower, or perform overhauls to replace the drive units.

Explaining whether your chainsaw needs a sharpening, we will highlight the pros of such an event:

  • The new tool is lubricated evenly;
  • Performs lapping of all parts;
  • The product goes smoothly into working mode;
  • A comfortable examination of the tool should be made to determine if there is a need to adjust the mechanism interactions to stabilize the working processes.

The last point also makes it possible to check the engine’s quality of work during the running-in period after the overhaul, when the smooth putting into operation takes place. In a similar way run-in is also performed after the s in the engine, gearbox and other mechanisms have been changed.

How to start a grass trimmer

The question of how to start the trimmer for grass, if the grass trimmer does not start or starts badly will arise if the engine gasoline trimmer for grass is worn out, not regulated, or when, because of violations of the sequence of operations during start-up the engine into the combustion chamber got a lot of fuel (when the engine sucks). To help an engine start you could pour some fuel through the spark plug hole into the cylinder. For this purpose it is better to use a special starting fluid, but you can also use regular fuel from the tank of a starting grass trimmer or lawnmower.

What grass trimmer oil to use?

Oil for 2-stroke trimmer engines has to meet a slightly different standard than 4-stroke engine oil. Lawn trimmer oil must have a high degree of combustion, so as not to form soot on the internal parts of the fuel system (particles of soot may fall off and form scratches on the cylinder walls). Also, 2-stroke oil must be soluble in gasoline and designed to operate at high temperatures.

Taking into account such serious standards, modern manufacturers of garden equipment produce special lines of 2-stroke oils designed specifically for trimmers and brushcutters. Oils from manufacturers such as Hado and STIHL are ideally suited to this machine and provide excellent lubrication and low flammability.
