How to start a gasoline grass trimmer in cold
Before you start working with the brushcutter, you need to perform a few actions that will prepare the tool for work.
Fuel mix
Before you run the engine of your new lawnmower, you need to prepare a good fuel mixture. For a lawn mower with a two-stroke engine, you’ll need the right oil and gasoline. You need to mix it in the right proportions, which you can find out in the trimmer’s manual. The owner’s manual also tells you which fuel and oil are recommended for each model.
Do not prepare fuel in reserve, calculate such an amount, which is enough for one mowing. Use a plastic canister for fuel. A glass or metal container will also work. You need an ordinary syringe to conveniently fill the oil.
Often tool and oil manufacturers specify different proportions, so owners of gasoline trimmers do not know which one to choose. Often the trimmer comes with a 1:25 ratio in the owner’s manual and up to 1:50 in the oil manual. Which is better??
Experts believe that if the trimmer instructions indicate the proportion 1:25 or 1:30, the manufacturer simply does not know what kind of oil will be used. Too much oil hurts the tool because it does not burn completely, leaving a small amount of coke that then clogs the engine parts. It is better to give preference to the proportion recommended by the oil manufacturer.
First start of the grass trimmer
When the weed trimmer is primed with fuel mixture, you can start the tool. To do this, do the following steps:
- Place the tool on a flat surface.
- Close the air damper with the appropriate lever.
- Pump some fuel into the carburetor with a primer.
- Turn the ignition switch on.
- Start pulling the starter cord until you feel resistance.
- After that, make a few strong jerks until the lawnmower starts.
- When the grass trimmer starts, open the air damper.
If you could not start the lawnmower, or it immediately stops, try to open the air damper on the carburetor a little.
The reason why the grass trimmer fails can be:
- overfilling the tank;
- Excessive pumping of fuel into motors equipped with a manual supercharger;
- engine wear on valves, cylinders, injectors, cam tappets, and other moving parts;
- Gasoline and / or oil ran out in the tanks;
- spark plugs are out of order;
- clogging of fuel or air filter
- Valves in the motor are disturbed or burnt.
The inspection begins with oil and fuel both in the tanks and a small portion of it in the engine system. “Empty” motor will not start despite a full tank, nor will an overflowing one.

First of all, reassemble it if it is disassembled. Detachable boom securely fastened in the latches. - Put everything back and try to start the weed trimmer.
Dry the channel for at least 30-40 minutes. Otherwise there is a risk to re-fill and a new spark plug.
If the plug is working, the socket, where it is located is completely dry, and the lawnmower does not want to start, lubricate the threaded connection with gasoline. It has to be slightly dampened. No matter how good the spark is, there is nothing to ignite in the dry chamber.
If the grass trimmer engine still does not start, you should rule out such a cause as a lack of spark due to poor contact between the spark plugs and the high-voltage wire. If the connection is good, but there is still no spark, most likely you have a “broken” ignition unit. You can’t do without a master here, t. к. This part is not repairable, but is sold as a complete unit.
Lawnmower Filter Diagnosis
Another reason why the gasoline grass trimmer stalls may be the air filter. To rule it out, try to remove the filter and start the grass trimmer without it. If it works, then you will have to change the air filter for a new one, or at least blow out and thoroughly clean the old one.
