What scissors cut metal sheets

Such a tool for cutting metal is divided into three types. The differences between the two are mainly in the way they work.

Types of shears

  • Cutting. These scissors are used to cut welded materials (pipes, ventilation elements) or to

Nibblers. the best option for cutting metal tiles

profiled materials (corrugated board, metal tiles). Each stroke of the scissors cuts out a small part of the material. this is the peculiarity of the tool’s operation.

  • Scissors with knives. This species is able to cut metal tiles by using two knives with one blade. One remains in place, and the second moves and cuts the sheet of metal laid between them. Using this type of scissors does not generate waste.
  • Shingle shears. The third type can be used for cutting various metals. both ferrous and non-ferrous. Even if the blade is coated, this tool will still cut it quickly. Slotted scissors have a cutting head, which produces precise and accurate cuts without skewing the sheet. They are often used for shaped cutting of tiles. Chips of the material are poured onto the working surface and are very easily removed without getting into the inside of the tool.
  • What tools and how to cut metal tiles correctly

    In the process of construction work, there is often a need for cutting metal tiles. Installers have their own vision on this matter, and not always the majority of opinions turn out to be correct.

    Metal tile is a material for roofing installation made of galvanized metal with a special coating. Due to the nature of the canvases, standard cutting will not always be appropriate. Regular cutting can significantly damage the material. Therefore, how and what to cut metal tiles, you can find out in this article.

    Tool for cutting metal tiles

    Manufacturers of metal tiles usually indicate recommendations for the use of a particular tool for cutting it.

    The following tools are most commonly used for slicing:

    • electric jigsaw;
    • scissors for metal;
    • hand saw for cutting metal;
    • circular saw with carbide teeth;
    • electric scissors for metal.

    Before choosing a tool for cutting tiles from the proposed list, you need to determine how much volume you want to cut. If the sheets are large, a nibbler, circular saw, or electric jigsaw will work. If you need to cut small pieces, a hacksaw or scissors will help.

    When using a saw, a serrated disc should be installed because an abrasive disc will not work. The circular saw is powerful and easy to use, and is suitable for various material sizes. The only caveat regarding the saw: cutting must be done on a solid surface. Therefore, work on the ground, if you need to adjust the material, will not work.

    The jigsaw is considered an affordable and simple tool. It is also well suited for cutting metal tiles. When planning your cutting work, stock up on a large number of files. They should have fine teeth.

    Of course, a jigsaw will not surpass a circular saw in terms of speed, however, it can just be used to adjust the material in place. For all its advantages, the jigsaw has one big drawback: in the process, you will need to use a lot of files. Therefore, if you are ready for such a situation, feel free to choose a jigsaw for cutting.

    Experts can give preference to one or another tool based on their own considerations and the work that is being done, trying to spoil the material as little as possible.

    Why you can not cut metal tiles angle grinder

    Many people do not know if it is possible to cut metal tiles with an angle grinder. Some professionals prefer to use this particular tool for the job. Fitters use an abrasive disc to easily cut large sheets into smaller pieces. At first glance, the process seems simple and affordable, however, it also has a significant disadvantage.

    Metal tile manufacturers unanimously repeat: cutting the material with an angle grinder is strictly prohibited. There are a lot of suitable tools for these works, with the use of which there should be no problems.

    Other tools for cutting metal tiles

    Special nozzle for cutting metal tiles

    The use of metal tiles begins with cutting. This requires a horizontal, firm and secure surface. We take several bars of the same height and place them under the sheet. Next, a cutting edge is drawn on the material with a marker or pencil. The canvas should be cut carefully. To do this, you need to hold the sheet with a board, pressing it to the surface. Cut by moving your hand with the bar as you cut the tiles, pushing them down. The work ends with cleaning: shavings off the sheet. Cut points of finished elements must be treated with special enamel to avoid corrosion.

    As the most expedient tool for cutting metal tiles of various thicknesses, the “Cricket” drill bit is taken. The prepared tool is able to cut sheets straight and diagonally. To make it easier to work, you can define and set the appropriate angle of the drill. The “Cricket” for cutting is most suitable for dividing steel sheets with a thickness of 0.9 mm. Using a nozzle for cutting metal tiles in all respects will cost you less.

    Electric nibblers work on the same principle. The tool has a rod that, when rotated, cuts the material with its side face. These tools have advantages over others due to the ability to cut the most complex shapes from metal sheets.

    The considered tools are an excellent solution for cutting metal sheets. By comparing the main features and capabilities, you can make the choice that will best meet the requirements.

    Wood and metal processing

    Scissors are used for both manual and machine cutting of metals. The angle of sharpening p at scissors ranges from 65 to 85 ° depending on the hardness of the metal being cut: for soft metals (copper, etc.) it is 65 °, for metals of medium hardness 70-75 °, for hard metals 80-85 °. To reduce the friction of the scissors knives when working on the blades, a clearance angle a equal to 1.5-3 ° is created. Scissors knives are made of U7 carbon steel; their cutting part is hardened.

    Cutting with hand scissors. Manual metal shears are shown in fig. 1. The most common sizes of scissors are 250-320 mm (along the total length of the scissors).

    The hand scissors are divided into right and left. On the right shears, the bevel on the cutting part of each half is on the right side, and on the left, on the left side. When cutting the sheet with the right scissors, the risk on the cut metal is always visible. When working with left scissors, in order to see the risk, you have to bend the cut metal with your left hand, shifting it over your right hand, which is very inconvenient. Therefore, cutting the sheet metal in a straight line and in a curve (circle and rounding) without sharp turns is carried out with the right scissors.

    Manual scissors can cut sheet steel up to 0.7 mm thick, roofing iron up to 1 mm thick, copper and brass sheets up to 1.5 mm thick.

    When cutting metal, the scissors do not open completely, but only enough so that they can grab the sheet. When fully opened, the scissors do not cut, but eject the sheet. When cutting round discs with scissors, the discs are turned counterclockwise, while the scissors should not cover the cut line of the cut.

    Cutting with chair scissors. One of the halves of these scissors has a handle with a pointed end bent downward; with this end, the scissors are fixed in a wooden bar. The second half. with a straight handle. serves for hand operation.

    The chair scissors are stable when cutting and give a lot of freedom to the hands of the worker. They cut sheets with a thickness of 2-3 mm.

    Cutting with lever scissors. In fig. 3 shows lever hand-held shears, designed for cutting sheet metal, thin bars and shaped material, and lever hand-held shears, used for straight cuts of sheet metal up to 2 mm thick (for steel) into strips. One knife is installed on the table of the swing scissors, on the lever itself, the second. A balance weight is placed at the end of the arm.

    The sheet metal is cut by one person using the fly shears. The sheet is laid on the table so that the cutting line (when cutting with markings) coincides with the blade of the lower knife. Pressing the sheet with the upper bar, the lever with the upper knife is lowered with a strong movement. Then the lever is “squeezed” until the required part of the sheet is cut.

    When cutting without marking, the width of the strips is adjusted with a movable guide ruler.

    Cutting with parallel scissors. These shears, sometimes called guillotine shears, are used to cut sheet metal (for steel) up to 4 mm thick or more. In parallel guides of the scissors, a slider with an upper knife obliquely attached to it walks up and down; the lower knife is fixed motionlessly in the bed. Raising and lowering the top-

    its knives are carried out by a crank mechanism, which receives movement from the working shaft, which is driven into rotation by an electric motor through a transmission from a drive pulley.

    Cutting with circular (round) scissors. In fig. 5 shows circular (circular) shears used for cutting sheet metal with an unlimited cutting length, as well as for curved cutting. The cutting tool is disc knives, located one above the other and rotating in different directions when working. To cut straight strips, the knives-discs are placed in parallel; for cutting curved shapes (circles, holes), knives and their axes are positioned at an angle to each other. You do not need to feed the sheet into disks; rotating discs themselves tighten the sheet,

    A story about the history of scissors.

    2 Basic rules for working with scissors and features of their choice.

    Exercise demonstration for teaching children to work with scissors.

    A little about the history of scissors.

    Do you know anything about the history of scissors? I’ll tell you. Previously, when it was required to cut something, they used a knife. But about three and a half thousand years ago in the 4th century BC. e. one master connected the handles of two knives with a bridge. This is how the first scissors appeared (slide 3). Ancient scissorswere not at all like modern: they had two blades connected by a curved flexible plate, which was not very convenient. And more than a thousand years ago, another master came up with the idea of replacing the bridge with a carnation. This is how a wonderful instrument was born (slide 4). The first scissors are said to have appeared in Italy.And already in the Arab countries, they acquired a modern form.: Retractable blades with ring handles (slide 5).

    This is how scissors were used in ancient times (slide 6).Most often they were used by barbers.

    Scissors are used everywhere: in the workshop, in the garage, in the hospital, in the hairdresser, in the garment factory and of course in school and kindergarten. Nowadays there is a wide variety of scissors. household, tailor, garden, manicure, medical, hairdressing, sheep and many others, without which a person cannot do.

    We all work in accordance with the educational program, which was built on the basis of the Federal State Educational Standard, let’s remember from what age you can entrust a child to cut with scissors?

    That’s right, we start cutting with scissors from the middle group. after four years. In the applique class in the middle group, children get to know scissors for the first time. Let’s remember which educational area the application belongs to. (artistic and aesthetic development).

    But before you start cutting you need to choose scissors.

    Choosing scissors for a child.

    How do you think how to choose the right scissors? Safety and convenience should be the main criteria. Small and almost toy scissors with animal handles for learning to cut will not work. It should be the most real scissors: medium size with rounded ends. It is good if the handles of the scissors are rubber. they are softer and do not slip. And, of course, the rings at the handles of the scissors should fit the size of the baby. It is better if one ring is round (for the thumb, but the other is elongated (for index and middle finger). So it will be easier for the child, otherwise the fingers will scatter in all directions. Scissors for children need to choose not very large. Their blades should be straight, about 10-20 cm long, well sharpened, rounded ends. Scissors don’t have to be tight.

    We have chosen the right scissors, but before we start cutting, let’s remember the basic rules for working with scissors, name them.

    There are rules for working with scissors: (slide 7).

    The scissors should be closed on the table.

    They should be passed in rings forward, holding the closed blades.

    When cutting paper along a straight mowing line, the scissors are not spread wide, and the ends are not brought together.

    When making cuts, you must use the tips of the scissors.

    When cutting the sheet with scissors from the table, do not pull it off strongly.

    When working with scissors, turn paper or other material, but not the tool.

    Small details are not cut out of a large sheet of paper. it is not comfortable. It is better to cut a piece of the required format.

    A cut in the shape of an acute angle is made in two steps.

    If you make a cut along the fold mowing line, then pre-unfold the paper.

    Round parts are cut counterclockwise.

    First steps to being able to cut with scissors.

    Once you have made a conscious decision to give your child scissors, you need to immediately explain to him that scissors are not a toy. You need to use them only for their intended purpose and only at the table.

    It would seem that these steps are quite simple. One. they opened the scissors, two. closed them. Simple and clear.

    But for a kid, this is the most difficult, tedious and not interesting. After all, scissors do not just need to be opened and closed, they need to be held correctly. And not skillful children’s fingers so do not want to obey. It didn’t work once, it didn’t work twice, and the baby gets bored.
