Inner corner without a chisel how to cut

What are skirting boards made of?

The most popular materials for making a ceiling plinth, are:

All of these materials have low mechanical strength and are easy to work with. They can be cut with a fine-toothed hacksaw or a special fine-toothed wood saw. Trimming with a knife is not recommended because a properly marked and cut corner does not need to be adjusted, and if the marking or trimming is performed incorrectly, then correct the situation with a knife, as on the wooden skirting boards, will not work.

How to cut a ceiling plinth in corners without a joiner

To quickly cut a ceiling plinth without a plier, you need to take into account what material it is made of. This will also allow you to choose the right tool for the job.

The most common skirting boards on the construction market are made of such materials:

corner, chisel

Tutel (skirting board, baguette or cornice) made of wood is characterized by a great weight. To cut a corner without problems you need a fine-toothed metal saw.

Using a prefabricated jigsaw

The most usual crosscut is a U-shaped profile, which has slots on both sides, allowing you to make cuts at angles of 45, 60 and 90 degrees, respectively, using a hacksaw. It is enough to use it once and you will no longer have the question of how to saw at an angle of 45 degrees. There are even more complicated chainsaws that allow you to independently set the angle you want to cut, as well as using the pivoting design, set the saw blade in the best position. The best option for the novice repairer, would be to buy ready-made tools in any construction store. The chisel can be made of wood, plastic or metal. But it can be made on their own from improvised material, any boards or plywood, about 20 millimeters thick.

A set of tools for cutting ceiling plinths

Working tools when solving the problem of how to properly trim a ceiling plinth in the corners are selected depending on the material of which the plinth is made, because each of them has its own processing features:

  • PVC skirting has no mechanical strength at all. Even light pressure can cause irreparable damage. Consequently, in the process of cutting it is not necessary to apply great effort. Using a blade, a sharp-ground construction knife or a metal hacksaw is the best way to cut PVC skirting boards.
  • Skirting boards made of expanded polystyrene are also not very hard, but compared to PVC, they are of higher quality, and also crumble easily. Trimming the ceiling plinth of foam is made with sharp instruments, as well as PVC.
  • Wooden baseboards have higher strength characteristics and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. However, the cost of such products is at a fairly high level. To cut wood baseboards, we recommend using a wood hacksaw with frequent teeth, as the teeth of a hacksaw for metal are easily clogged with sawdust.

To cut the ceiling plinth for the inside corner, follow these steps.

  • Measure the length of the baseboard by laying it on the ceiling.
  • Place the baseboard in the jig, holding it against the far wall.
  • Hold the baseboard with your left hand; position the hacksaw so that the handle is as close as possible to your left hand and the angle is 45°. Carefully cut the skirting board.
  • Measure the length of the second fillet (it will be located on the other side of the corner).
  • Place it against the far side of the wort and press it down with your right hand.
  • The handle of the hacksaw should be close to the right hand, and the angle should be 45°. Carefully cut.

The tree

Wood skirting boards differ from their counterparts. Wood has a fairly large weight, which affects the weight of products from it. The skirting boards are eventually quite tight, very resistant to mechanical damage and solid, which allows you not to be afraid of accidental deformation during installation or cutting.

To trim a wood baseboard, it is best to take a fine-toothed hacksaw designed specifically for fine work with this material. However, a good option will also be a good quality blade on metal.

Let’s cheat a bit

In some places, the neatness of the baseboard joint does not matter. for example, behind a tall cabinet. In this case, you can simplify your life by gluing the ceiling plinth and cut the corner already after gluing. True, about a clean cut and perfect junction of fragments we can’t talk about. most likely, the drawbacks of the joints will have to be covered with a matching color putty.

Putty may have to be putty joints and not enough flat walls. Here it is better to take care in advance about the simple profile of the skirting boards and their small width, as well as sufficient flexibility. Otherwise, it will be clearly visible that in some places the trim does not adhere to the wall/ceiling.

Special PVC skirting board corners help to cover up sloppy corners. They can be simple or shaped, matched to the color and texture of the trim ceiling.

For complex profiles specially produced corner sections larger size, imitating stucco

When using such corner elements, gluing the skirting boards to the ceiling in the corners has to be done with straight trimming of the ends. For overlapping corners trimming neatness is not too important, but if the junction fragment is inserted between two slats, it is necessary to process their edges as carefully as possible.

Mounting a corner baguette using a chisel

First of all, you must make sure that the gluing angle is exactly 90°. This can be done using a professional angle gauge or a large angle piece. If the measurement shows that the angle is straight or deviates only slightly from 90°, then the baseboard cutter is the best tool for fitting corner joints.

How to cut a ceiling plinth in the corners? In order for the two skirting boards to match perfectly, their edges should be cut at an angle of 45° mirror to each other. First, fix the plinth in a stationary state on a stable solid support, and then proceed to perform the operation, because if during the cutting there will be a shift of the rail, the direction of the cut may be inaccurate and the joint will be a gap.

When cutting, the skirting boards inside the chair should be placed in the opposite direction, and they can be processed separately or both at the same time. In the latter case, you should lay the rails inside the fixture, pressing them tightly against each other with their backs. If you lay both baguettes alternately on one side, then the first slat is cut on the right guides of the chair at a 45° angle, and the second on the left grooves.

To verify the correctness of the cut, align the machined strips at the joint, placing them on an even surface of the table. If everything is fine, then conduct a second check at the place of installation.

If there are small errors, make the necessary adjustments with a knife or sandpaper. And only after making sure that the exact fit, proceed to fix the baseboard on the glue or self-tapping screws.

Outer corner

To cut baguettes into an outside corner, put them in the jig from different sides and press against the wall farthest from you. Make the cut at two different 45° angles in the jigs.

Inside corner

To properly shape the inside corner, press the tack into the near wall. Make the cut in the same way as before.

Fixing of prepared skirting boards on a place by glue

The technology of attaching baseboard slats has already been discussed in detail earlier in the articles “How to glue a skirting board of foam” and “Baseboard for a stretch ceiling”. Let us remind you of the basics:

  • The adhesive must be applied not only to the back side of the tape, but also to the joint seams;
  • The rivers must be kept pressed until the adhesive has taken hold;
  • The time of curing of the adhesive by the manufacturer of the material is indicated on the package;
  • After fixing the skirting board, all places of loose fit should be sealed with putty or sealant;
  • In the case of a stretch ceiling, the side adjacent to it is not smeared with glue, and fastening is carried out only on the wall.

Your task is to make the joint monolithic, without gaps and cracks. Therefore, the issue of pre-fitting is the basis of success.

A simple way to cut the outer corner of the ceiling plinths without a jigsaw

Often after the repair work, namely, when docking the ceiling plinth, not a beautiful gap between the baguettes is noticed. This happens as a result of using the wrong method of docking beams, or not knowing how to do it correctly.

In this article, we will consider a method that requires a minimum of time to work to dock the skirting boards without gap, without using a plier. This method is suitable for any angle that forms the wall: both acute and obtuse.

To understand how to do this, we need two baguettes, which we will join.
