Hello Dear Friends! My last post on chainsaw repair garnered many questions, many answers and 150 subscribers. Continuing to dilute the gasoline tool repair community. In one comment asked to show how to change the oil seals on STIHL chain saw, I just had to repair STIHL FS55, the instructions will also work on the STIHL FS38/44.
So, let’s go, preface: lawnmower was brought to service before the upcoming season, it started, it worked, and only occasionally during the long hours of work were not big problems, it began to live their lives, did not obey the gas knob, but soon it passed and it worked again.
Carry out service (change filters, plugs, lubricate bearings, clean, purge, adjust). I won’t show you how to do it, everyone should know how to do it.
Find the defect that causes the lawnmower “its life”.
Near the carburetor and under the caps there was oil and dust visible, the carburetor and the intake tract was completely intact. So we’re going to get to the oil seals. To do this, remove the starter.
Then unscrew the screws at the bottom of the grasshopper, which are marked.
Take off upper and lower cover. Then take a torx, suitable for the size, put it in the clutch drum and unscrew, the thread is right, it is usual.
The clutch friction pads are next. If you have no impact wrench, clamp the flywheel carefully in a vice with wooden spacers and unscrew with a gas wrench, the thread is right-hand thread.
If the flywheel itself is not broken, then take a mallet and lightly padded it, it is easily removed from the starter head 13 unscrewed ratchet starter, the thread is right.
We got to the seals, you can see the oil and dust around them, so seals leak, the customer said to change.
We pull out the old seals with a thin screwdriver, clean everything, take the new seals (size 12227, 3, such are on Chinese starter shafts of 26 and 33cm3) lubricate the outside and inside with oil, fill with a suitable head.
Reassemble in reverse order. Turn it on, warm it up, accelerate, works like clockwork.

How to adjust the carburetor on a STIHL Fs 38 mower
Lawn mowers, like all garden tools, are low-maintenance. Repair, adjust without the help of others is possible and necessary. Tuning the lawnmower’s carburettor yourself, for example, is a 5-minute affair.
Lawn mower carburetor is a unit in the power system. In the personal computer, as in all carburetors, air and fuel (gasoline) are mixed for the upcoming supply to the engine cylinders.
In this process, the main thing. the correct proportion of fuel and air, for what purpose and adjust the carburetor.

The base of the lawnmower carburetor is the duralumin body. A diffuser (orifice with internal circuits) is placed there. The air is forced in through this opening. The flow rate of oxygen (air) depends on the diffuser face (orifice).

The throttle valve determines the amount of air to be pumped, and for this reason directly affects the power of the engine.
Fuel is sucked into the carburetor system by the pump (its diaphragm). Then it goes through a fitting in the carburetor. Then the fluid travels through the inlet and outlet valves of the pump. Is filtered by the mesh. Fuel flows through the needle valve into the diaphragm chamber.
- Air is fed to the tube with an air baffle (damper). The baffle plate controls the intensity of the air flow.
- The fuel system is necessarily narrowed by the mixer to increase the flow rate.
- Gasoline flows through the float chamber and nozzle tube. The float chamber regulates the temporary volume of gasoline. In the float chamber the pressure level is neutral, in the tube with restriction the pressure level is already low. Owing to the pressure difference, the fuel flows through the nozzle.
- Acceleration of air flow promotes the fuel (gasoline) transfer and atomization. The end result is an air-fuel mixture of the desired proportion or density.
- The air-fuel mixture seeps into the engine cylinder through the fuel tube.
The area of the open air damper depends on the level of air density in the system. The more wide the damper is open, the more easily the fuel consumption and power.
Simply put, adjusting the carburetor on a gasoline mower is to create a good fuel consistency by correcting the air supply.
Before carrying out any adjustments, the filters must be thoroughly cleaned as described in the user manual.

Adjust the lawnmower carburetor with the last screw as follows:
- Open throttle to full throttle and throttle to full throttle. Turn screw clockwise until rpm drops (in this case use hearing guide).
- Turn the screw most slowly counterclockwise until the motor is uneven.
- Then turn back a little, just after hearing a measured, smooth operation.
